A good barbecue joint. Got a pork sandwich that included one side. So I opted for the slower both were good. What was that good was the lukewarm beer I got I only took a few sips and left it. The cooler must be broken or not working that's why you're supposed to check food temps and refrigeration logs as a restaurant Owner/manager/staff. So I can say I've been there I done that and tried it. I know there's more than one location so they must be somewhat successful. Im a Bbq junkie so I try bbq all over in my travels and this place was not far from where I was staying. To my surprise the place was very big and nicely done for a small town bbq with plenty of porch seating and an outdoor covered beer garden thing on the side. I liked the country theme and overall haw it's put together. I ordered the half rack dinner with green beans and bacon sided for dinner later, it was only 4pm and I didn't want to risk them running out of ribs later in the evening when I eat dinner, it's happened before with Bbq. The ribs smelled very Smokey but they looked like they were steam preserved when I opened the package. The meat was fall off the bone with a steamed soft texture. The bark had nice flavor and the meat was tender but oddly it didn't taste as smoky as it smelled. The green beans with bacon was horrible because it's the mushy can green beans texture that I can't stand and they were bland, the bacon didn't even taste like bacon. Overall it's not the best BBQ that I have had but it's not worst and if it was fresh out of the smoker it's probably way better and I just picked the wrong side. read more

The food on another hand was very disappointing for the price. They ran out of smoked wings on a Saturday afternoon, you are a BBQ place how do run out of Smoked wings? The nachos were ok that we got in place of wings but they were served in a basket with paper and the paper was dissolving as we ate them. The pulled chicken was ok but it did not taste like it was BBQ and it was very dry. The coleslaw oh my how can you call it coleslaw? It first off had shaved red onion, totally ruined it with onion, and maybe it wouldn't have been so bad had it actually had some dressing or something on it, it had nothing, it was literally cabbage and onion and nothing else. Disappointing. I was pretty much the only one there. It was difficult to get someone's attention. Employees openly complained about management within easy earshot. I did not feel that anyone attempted to take care of me during my visit; bartender was immersed in her phone the entire time. The food was disappointing as well. There was a plastic pull top tab from a container in my potatoes we let the waitress know she offered to replace them but at that point we were pretty disgusted after it had been in my mouth and did not want a replacement. So she took $4 off of our bill to make up for the inconvenience. We paid the bill and tipped our waitress (it was not her fault) then left. The manager never came over to speak with us about the incident. The next day we went to speak with the manger about how dangerous that could have been if someone had choked on that item. She did not care and stated that everything is cooked to 165 degrees so it was safe. We were not looking for a monetary reward but we wanted mgmt to take a stance and know what was going to happen so this does not happen to someone else. The burnt ends (both beef and pork) were very dry and drowned in bbq sauce to attempt to hide it. Needless to say we will pass the word and never eat there again. read more

Some of the worst food ever. meat was Luke warm and you could tell the brisket had been sliced hours ago and then reheated on a flattop or in a skillet. Never seen brisket dark on all sides. All the meat was dry. ribs were black on the outside which usually means it has a bark on it. Well it was soggy and tasted burnt. Not good at all. Sides were ok at best. Sat at the restaurant for at least 10 minutes without being noticed by the people that work there because they were too busy standing around having their own personal conversations. I had to go get a menu myself, and then by the time they realized we were there and took our order, it came back to us completely wrong. I ordered two pieces of chicken. I got three, and I ordered a haystack of onions they gave me French fries, and my husband ordered beef and pork and got a tenderloin he ordered french fries and got green beans. The french fries that I got on my order they said oh that's his french fries. She ended up serving the beef and pork order to another customer that actually ordered the tenderloin. I was surprised to find this spot on Knoxville, but it's a nice open space with a bar and separated eating area. The attached hall has a game room with pool table and video games. There's also a sewing shop and shared bathrooms for all the businesses. The decor is awesome with big Jack Daniel whiskey barrel tables and even a windmill ceiling fan. The dart games in the corner are a lot of fun and they carry local beer like Iron spike. I haven't try their food yet, but it's a fun place to hang out with a bunch of friends. Not very good. My son and I hate nachos with beef on top, pulled pork sandwich and ribs. The ribs were over cooked and not real flavorful. The pulled pork was dry and the bun was old and a little stale. Baked beans, cheesy potatoes and waffle fries were pedestrian at best. Not originally from this area and we're very spoiled having come from large cities most of our lives. To be honest Galesburg area is left wanting with a few exceptions. If fast food places are the top picks in the area then you know something is wrong. However we've picked up large quantities of food from here twice already and when I saw the reviews I had to get these guys their fair review. Both times we've ordered over $100 worth of food and both times the food has been great. If you're looking for good food and a good place to eat in an otherwise area that's left wanting, then this is it. If you received bad service or food I'm thinking the issue is not with the food or service but with the individual. I finally have given up and eat fried shrimp.. no too much work for that just a bag of frozen prepared shrimp and clean oil in a fryer.. the cook can manage this; the sides are very tasty.. Just returned from dining with a party of 7.. 3 of us had the shrimp, one had ribs ( cleaned his plate) one had a piece of mystery meat called a grilled tenderloin ( horrible).. told he he should have shrimp, another had a salad bowl with pulled pork and another had 1/2 sandwich with spinach soup.. she said soup was good. We were very underwhelmed by our meal here. After waiting over thirty minutes to get our food, all three of the pulled pork dinners had to be returned because the meat was barely warm. The server returned fairly shortly with new plates with hot pork, but now my wife's side of cheesy potatoes was actually cold in places. I had the three sliders with pork, brisket, and turkey on them. The brisket was fine, but the other two had far more bun than meat. I had to abandon the buns so that I could actually taste the meat and not just bread. The house made chips were also very disappointing. They ran the gamut from barely cooked and oily to way over cooked with most being soft but edible. Nothing like the tasty, crispy chips I was expecting. In all, we wasted two hours of our life on a dinner I hope we will soon forget. SERVICE: When we arrived, it was not that busy. We had to keep repeating ourselves to the waitress on several occasions. Asking for a kids menu, spoon for my son's meal (which never came, had to go myself to the bar to ask for one while three of them were standing around talking), to then when our meal came asking her for a refill (my cup was empty for over 15 mins), then to when I was done, asking if we were ready for the check, I said yes, to then removing my plate and my husbands that still had food on it and he and my son were STILL eating!! He went to the bar and asked for a manager, talked to the assistant manager who didn't even seem that she cared. I would also say that the time it took to get our drinks & food was way too long! Don't go there unless you have hours to spend. FOOD: The food was okay, for what you pay for, I think you could get a little more (especially the sides) and the meat was bland without the BBQ sauce. Big Catz is a fun and casual place - friendly environment and, let me say right off the wait-staff is terrific. The food - miserable, one of the worst meals (we've) ever experienced. My friend Gary ordered burnt ends. Yikes! Black, hard as rocks, tasteless and inedible. To be fair, his sweet potato fries were really good as was the cornbread. I ordered jumbo shrimp and a half-rack of baby-back ribs. My "jumbo" shrimp were miniscule, over-cooked, hard and like rubber! The ribs were, simply put, awful. Burnt and tasteless. Honestly, they tasted old. *ugh* green beans geez how can you screw-up green beans!? Apparently at Big Catz it's an art. If it weren't for a load of salt and pepper and ranch dressing the signature shoestring onion rings - which I was so looking forward to - greasy and bland. We looked forward to Big Catz. We really liked the place. The food, well, someone in that kitchen served us up a big ole' serving of "I don't care." How anyone could send out food like we received is beyond us - it was our first visit and trust me, never again.
