Thomas the owner received my 2008 ZX-10 In Feb 2024 for an engine diagnosis and possible rebuild. Thomas wanted $600 upfront to pull the engine and complete the diagnosis. Upon completion of the Diagnosis, Thomas determined that parts needed to be ordered or a new engine needed to be sourced to do a motor swap due to the engine being blown. Thomas felt that rebuilding the motor would be a lot simpler and quicker than trying to find a new motor. Thomas requested an additional $2300 to start to tear the motor apart and begin the rebuild process. As of 7/26/2024, Thomas received parts for the rebuild around April 2024 and still has possession of the bike. Thomas has mentioned several times that the bike was a priority and his shop was incredibly busy and he continued to delay the completion time of the bike. Thomas continues to take in small jobs such as oil changes, chain and sprockets, tires, tune ups, valve adjustments. (Smaller and quicker jobs) DELAYING LARGERE JOBS THAT HIS SHOPS HAS RECEIVED MONEY FOR UPFRONT. Thomas has continued to lie about the completion dates and most recently, Thomas has made it clear that his shop is unable to complete the engine rebuild because he does not have qualified technicians to complete the work as they have all quit or moved to different shops with better business practices. Thomas refuses to return the bike or turn over the property and has demanded $400 additional to release the bike back to the owner. Thomas has made it clear that he does not want to complete the bike and will not put the bike back together or will not complete the repairs that he's been paid to complete. Sportbike Performance Center (Phoenix AZ (Cavecreek Rd)) is not an honest shop. They have deceived their customers and obviously their employees are not happy because they continue to leave and go to other shops. There employees / talent they continue to retain are subpar techs that do lousy work. At the same time I dropped off the 08 ZX-10, I also dropped off a 2012 ZX-10 to have looked at. Both bikes were dropped off in Feb 2024, Thomas was pretty positive he could diag the 2012 ZX-10 as well. *********************2012 ZX10********************************** The 2012 Diag tool 3 months of back and forth. - Initially Thomas though it was the ECU. He ordered and ECU, installed it and it did not fix the issues. -2nd, he thought it was the Fuel Pump, so he ordered a fuel pump from Ebay. (This is where he get the majority of his parts) Not from a sport bike distributer. The fuel pump change and tank cleaning changed nothing. The bike still maintained the same symptoms. At this point, Thomas failed to complete a fuel pressure test. 3rd was the replace the injectors. Injectors were replaced and the bike still exhibited the same symptoms. Upon replacement of the injectors and him realizing now, that 4 moths had passed. ******* ECU replaced, OEM ECU reinstalled, Fuel Pump Replaced, Tank Cleaned, Injectors replaced********** AT THIS JUNCTURE IN THE DIAG PROCESS, 2.5 MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. In June, Thomas orders another fuel pump (Used OEM) from Ebay, replaced the pump, performed a fuel pressure test at all RPM's to see if there was any drop-off at a specific power band. The 2nd fuel pump ended up appearing to fix the issue and I picked up the 2012 ZX-10. In summary, the length of time it took to diag a fuel pump issue and a $900 expense was incredibly excessive and 4 months of elapsed time. Thomas placed smaller jobs First, put the more complex issues on the back burner, came up with several excuses and refused to communicate without the consumer making the call to get an update as to what was going on. Thomas is an incredibly irresponsible business owner that has absolutely no mechanical experience and is obviously incapable of running an rebuttable shop. read more

I was introduced to Sport Bike Performance Center when I rented one of their Yamaha FJR1300s last Sept. It was everything I expected it to be: very fast with full hard bags and Ted wired in my handlebar mounted Escort radar detector, no charge. Their sport bike rentals run about $100 less per day than any other outfit in the valley. All rentals include leathers, gloves, helmets, etc. Because I hadn't ridden in decades I had forgotten just how much fun it is. When I returned the FJR, Ted saw my ear to ear grin and said, "If you like going fast, how about signing up for our 200mph speed run at Springerville?" I did and it was a blast. Because of very strong headwinds and it being my first time, I only reached 189.7mph. Since then I have taken road racing lessons from Ted and Elaine at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, CA and I'm signed up for their 200mph motorcycle weekend this April in Mojave, CA. If you're serious about going fast, this is the place. No dilettantes here, just real racers. I turned 70 years old 3 months ago and finally, I'm no longer bored. I have taken both my R1 and 995 Speed Triple to Ted for service. When I first bought my R1 it felt soft. It handled well enough but for everyday riding but after taking it out on a few of better sections of local highway, it was a real handful. After talking to Ted, he recommended taking a one time suspension setup class. It sounded interesting enough and was inexpensive so I signed up for a Wednesday class. I learned a ton from not only Ted but also a RaceTech Rep. After the class they setup everyone's bike and then made any further recommendations. After riding for a couple of months, I still was not totally satisfied. I had Ted and his guys fully rework my suspension with RaceTech goodies and what a difference. It rode better than the day I brought it home. Having such a great experience with my R1, when I got my Speed Triple, I went back to Ted. The Triple had been sitting for a while before I got it and was far from running correctly. The guys had to rebuild the the fuel system and clean the injectors on top of the regular service needs of an aging bike. I was expecting a serious hit to the pocket book, but was revealed in the end. The bike ran great and the price was fair. I have never felt pressured into buying anything or steered into something I didn't want. Ted knows what hes talking about from where to ride, to the best bang for your buck parts. I used to road race a Yamaha FZR 600 in the early 1990's at Willow Springs - and I found its exact replica at Sportbike Performance Center when I took my current bike in for some minor repairs. Ted, the owner, had some free time and we got to talking about racing and riding in general. I've been to many bike shops throughout the years and I wouldn't take my street bike anywhere but Ted's shop, while I'm in Arizona. The cool thing about Ted and his guys is that they know road bikes and they know how to get the most out of them. If something is broken, they'll fix it. If nothing is broken, they'll listen - and tune the bike to your demands. You might find some hack to work on your bike for cheaper, but you won't find a better value in the Phoenix area than Sportbike Performance Center. To those of you who don't know Ted, he still rides on the track, although he doesn't race so much any more. He's an experienced former AMA racer and he's a great coach, for those of you who want to improve your riding skills. Riding one afternoon along Cave Creek my new-to-me scooter died in motion. Coincidentally, right at the entry to a mechanic shop. This mechanic had no knowledge of scooters and didn't offer any assist but with a phone call to Willis at Performance, he was able to diagnose over the phone with photos sent and first talked me through the repair to get the bike running. When it died again shortly after getting back on the road and it was apparent the tools I had weren't going to be able to adequately repair, even temporarily, Willis drove to me in the field, brought me tools and assisted me in fixing the bike. Scooters are admittedly not their specialty, customer service and motors are. This was the best mechanic experience I've ever had, hands down. Thank you!!! read more

Definitely the right choice for my new shop! I just moved to Phoenix from Florida and as you know, finding a new mechanic that you can actually trust is a wearisome proposition. I went to my fellow Yelpers yet again and you did not fail me! Ted Rich and his great group of VERY capable mechanics did a custom install and fabrication for me. If you are going to buy a motorcycle from this company you should think twice. This company was advertising a motorcycle on craigslist that was priced at "excellent condition" according to Kelly blue book and even said in their ad that the bike was perfect. I went into the shop and found out that it was anything but perfect. Aesthetically the bike looked fine except for some unexplainable chips in the speedometer. Thinking that it would be a good deal I went to sign for the title. Before signing though I checked the carfax on the bike and it was sold at a salvage auction a month earlier and declared a total loss by insurance. DO NOT BUY A BIKE HERE. The new plastics they put on might look great but structurally the bikes for sale there are terrible. read more

JC is as personable and knowledgeable as they come. The experience of dealing with him is second to none. When riding on the hectic streets of the city on these machines that are all too capable of claiming your life, you essentially are trusting these technicians with your life. I have never questioned or hesitated with my comfort on my sportbike after receiving it back from JC. When he asks what parts I'd like to use, I always say, however you'd build yours - I trust you. There's no bigger comfort zone than trust when working with a mechanic and with JC you get exactly that. I am NOT a mechanically rider. Instead, I hand my keys over and simply say "please fix" or "lube it". They consistently follow through. If the repair is something different than discussed at the counter, they call. I haven't been surprised by a repair bill because either they knew what it was up front, or they called first before fixing it. I know the owner, Ted, and some of the techs race and do track days. So this isn't some monkey shop of guys parked in a back eddy of life. These guys live it. For those riders who don't have the time or willingness to wrench their own, I highly recommend these guys. read more

From the 1st racing body position class I took, my experience with Ted and his crew at Sportbike Performance Center has been excellent. On Ted's recommendation, I bought a track only race bike which he stores and delivers to the track for me inspected and prepped. Since I moved to Phoenix this has been my go to shop for my motorcycle needs. I've had a sprocket and chain replaced, replaced a radiator, and suspension tuned. They have been responsive, accommodating and most importantly accurate with the work done on my motorcycle. Prices are more than fair.
