It was explained to me by the sales assistant that the local supplier does not have this particular item in their inventory but they were working on locating it elsewhere. Despite not being able to get activated charcoal, I was truly impressed with the selection of products. The Root Cellar must have the best selection of Weleda products outside of Switzerland! And a huge assortment of all-natural toothpaste and personal hygiene products and lotions specifically designed for babies. Also, in the back of the store there is an impressively large selection of non-perishable grocery items. I walked out of the store with a bunch of things and wishing that there was a Root Cellar in Montreal.

The items are beautifully displayed, and you could tell the owner really has an eye for style. There was a large variety of items at a range of different prices. I love that they are size inclusive as well. I had a blast shopping here, and the owner helped accessorize some of the outfits. I got a couple of dresses, paid of shoes, belt and lounge wear. It was such a fun experience shopping here, I could have spent hours looking for treasures! This year we purchased a pair of hand-made wool sweaters, both really handsome in two different styles. The prices were about $200 Canadian, which we don't believe to be overly expensive given their high quality and durability (sweaters we purchased previously have held up well and still look almost like new). The shop also carries a lot of knitting skeins, which do appear on the pricey side, but we're told that similar supplies simply aren't in big supply anywhere on the island. We've chatted with the owner and found her delightful and knowledgeable about the origins of the wool in the shop. They also carry a number of other items including Scottish/Irish kilts, hats, shawls, capes, mittens, slippers and blankets. The shop seems to us a wonderful showcase for local artisans and knitters, and we look forward to many more return visits and sweater purchases.

Both Gayle and I found some nice gifts, and my only regret is giving away a really cool magnet that Gayle's sister took a fancy to. I highly recommend this place to anyone else who happens to be in the neighborhood.
