I've been coming to this bar for years and it's only right that I leave a review. I have been a returning customer since I was 21. A kid who had no idea how the bar scene was. I am 31 now. This is still my "home bar" as I call it. The staff has always been great with me. I don't have a friendship with any of these bartenders or staff outside or inside of this bar. But they have still been very kind and welcoming to me. No matter who I bring. My Gf, family friends. I have always felt a sense of comfort being here. Sometimes. Rarely. you'll get people from next door (Vatos Tacos) who have had a few and they bring a certain "off" energy. But the staff has always done their part to make me feel safe, when they didn't have to. I've read up on a lot reviews here that were rather negative towards certain bartenders. But as a witness, I feel like they return the same energy as you give them. If you come in rude. That's probably the service you're going to get. I think it's fair to refuse service to someone who is being belligerent. With that being said. Their Cocktails are great and serve their purpose. The beers are ice cold. The place is always clean. Including the men's and women's restrooms. (As said by my gf) They have 2 awesome pool tables, 2 dart boards and great music. I've been coming here for 10 years, I can totally see myself coming for another 10. Even the new generation of bartenders are great. Thank you all for your services. read more

I'm not in town very often anymore, but when I am and I'm looking for a night out this is where I go. Reasonable prices at the bar, flat, level, well-kept pool tables, dart boards, jukebox, awesome pizza place right across the parking lot, but above all, the service here is top-notch. It seems to be a pretty popular place with the locals, it always picks up about 9pm. In all the times I've been here I've never seen "favoritism" with the service - belly up to the bar and your order will be taken in turn. I've always gotten excellent service here and I don't see what people are complaining about. The bartender has a great sense of humor and it's obvious he knows his trade and has been in the business many years (decades?). The recent facelift on the place looks great as well. Worst bar ever!!! Not sure if it's favoritism or racism. It took about 20 minutes to get the bartenders attention to even order a drink and then when I did order it, he was rude AF. I don't see how this place is still in business with all of the violations they had through the health department. I guess not only is machine disgusting but so is the customer service. Maybe you just have to be part of the in crowd or friends with the bartender. Hopefully all of these reviews will get to the owner and he will review security footage if there is any and fire some people.. or is this one of the bars where you go in and the theme is to be rude? The bartender, who had a long red ponytail, served about 10 of his friends before he even acknowledged us and then when another female patron mentioned we had been standing there for a long time, he said, when people yell at me I don't respond. When he finally asked what we wanted he proceeded to say, so how long is a long time to wait. Yesterday was a very sad day for Marc (the barback of Sports and Spirits) as well those who love him and his family. Cobb, the owner, was very generous in encouraging and supporting today's fundraiser for Marc's niece at Sports and Spirits. Clearly, this is not "just a bar," it is a place filled with people with generous and loving hearts who stand up when the people they love are in need!! I also want to commend, Brooke. She was the bartender on duty and was absolutely amazing! She is such a hard worker and had everyone's glasses filled while having a sad(due to the situation) but genuine smile on her face. What I like about this bar is the ghosts that haunt the southeastern holes on each pool table that dictate bizarre poetry in your ear as you shiver in the too-cold AC, verses somewhere between Bukowski's most misanthropic diatribes and Dave Barry humor columns from the mid 1990s about getting creepy massages in strip malls and borrowing cigarettes from gas station hookers. You have to stand in just the right place to hear the ghost poetry but trust me it's worth it. Otherwise, if you can't tune in, it's a good spot to eavesdrop on the commonplace and tiring woes of suburban strip-mall Bakersfield barflies and their disgusted girlfriends. You could easily write a decent script for Jim Jarmusch after about a week of consistent $3.50 drafts. Did I mention the pool tables? read more

Horrible experience... I used to go to this bar from time to time, but after so many bad experiences I decided to stop going all together. Fast forward, years later I give it another try after the upgrades and clean up. I'm there for about half an hour before midnight when the bartender Keith calls last call because " someone messed up his bathroom. Being that's it's last call, I get my second beer and ask him if we have time to finish a pool game we started, he says yes. Within 5 mins the bouncer comes over and turns the light off on us and the bartender is yelling at everyone to get the F out of his bar .. if you don't work there get the F out.. multiple times... after having what I noticed is his second shot. Horrible experience and put yet another, bad taste in my mouth for this bar and I won't be going back .. I even left him a $5 tip for 2 beers because he was having a hard time having to clean the bathroom. He was choosing to close 2 hours early over a messy bathroom. My boyfriend checked it out , said it was a mess but nothing serious and it shouldn't take more then 30 mins to clean up .. isn't that part of your job and working there? Don't treat your customers this way, or the people tipping you! The owners should know about what's going on in their establishment. read more

This place is legit. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves for the short period of time we were there. The beer was cold the mixed drink was good. The vibe was cool. Mixed crowd similar to the vibe you would find in places like Long Beach Or South Bay. Very legit. Very chill. Two pool tables. Ice cold bottles of beer. Direct Tv. No ode smells. I've only been here once and the service was horrible. The night was going great the atmosphere was awesome but the service broke down as the night went on. I tried to give the bartender the benefit of doubt because it was getting very busy, but I noticed as the bar got busier he would tend to people he knew first. He was overwhelmed and maybe instead of correcting people on how to ask fir drinks he should of concentrated on helping customers. If u said "can I get a beer" he would say "may I get a beer". Was kinda irritating but whatever. When I tried to cash out I waited patiently at the end of the bar. I waited maybe twenty minutes and as I was waiting some one he knew walked up and wanted to cash out and the bartender immediately cashed him out. I told the guy that cashed out, that's messed up I've been tipping good spending good money here I would expect a little bit better service, which he replied " it's not how big your dick is, it's about who you know". I guess he was referencing me thinking since I was tipping big I would expect faster service. I just wanted to cash out. Long story short. This place is my "Cheers"! There is a steady group of regulars you will see at the far side of the bar. We have a great time in here! There's always a friendly face and good music.
