I'd like to share a humiliating and frustrating experience I had at the Santee Sportsplex involving Jeff Eidson, the adult softball director. At around 8:50 PM, after my child's baseball game, I went to the snack bar to get him some nachos. I was told the kitchen was closed--even though I had previously been told that closing time was 9:30 PM. The nacho cheese was already prepared and sitting in cups, ready to serve. There was no reasonable explanation for denying the sale other than what felt like intentional mistreatment. What made this worse is that they were still selling beer to adults at that time. This is a children's baseball park, yet they were clearly prioritizing alcohol sales over a simple snack for a hungry child. That sends the wrong message and puts profits above the needs of the kids who actually play there. When I spoke up and voiced my concern, I was treated rudely and dismissed. I didn't deserve to be treated that way, especially as a paying customer and parent. This kind of disrespect is unacceptable, and I hope the policy and attitude at the Sportsplex changes to prioritize fairness and children's needs--not just adult beer sales. read more

We had a baseball tournament this past weekend and our 12 year old played 3 games in 100 degree weather at the Sportsplex in Santee. Not only did we have to pay $5 for admission, but our players weren't allowed to bring in their Gatorade bottles that they had packed in their baseball bags. This is extremely unfair considering the heatwave conditions from this weekend?! The kids playing in these games need those beverages to stay hydrated and don't have the option of purchasing drinks at the snack bar while they are playing a game. To make matters worse the only sports drink offered at this location is a fountain Powerade in a styrofoam cup with no lid or straw?! How are kids supposed to store that in a dugout? What is the purpose of not allowing kids to bring in their bottled sports drinks when they are participating in a game? This locations business practices are extremely disappointing! read more

They give you a fake silver token as a credit for whatever to buy in the cafeteria. You can't grab anything in there with the token. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! The "no drinks or food" rule is an outright money grab. Girls softball players had to arrive at 645am and not allowed to bring in any outside nutrition. One player had a yogurt and was told to finish it on the spot or put it in the warm car. Another had a drink from Starbucks but would not bring it on because it wasn't coffee. I'm sorry but I won't want my 11 year old to drink coffee. When questioned the "manager"'said it was a tournament rule. The tournament manager said it was a park rule. Classic finger pointing at each other with no real justification except the unsaid is they want you to buy their overpriced food and drink. Could have asked for a little more understanding considering these are youth players before 7am. The business didn't suffer. I will never return to this complex ever again. Having to pay 5$ everytime I enter to play for a league I already prepaid and registered for is crazy. They give you a silver coin to use at the concession stand so you "get your money back" kicker is that the coin is only worth 3$ but the entrance fee is 5. Also nothing is cheap enough to get with that coin, a giant rouse to spend money inside the park. No outside snacks are allowed in. I'm on a strict diet, eat certain things only between games. Showed up to Santee Sports Plex for a baseball tournament at 6:45 am with the below weather conditions listed for the day. Brought two bottles of Gatorade for my 11 year old son playing in this weather. I was told I cannot bring it even though my child cannot drink the brand they sell. "We have other options for your child who can't have Powerade." No you don't, I spend a fair amount of time at both complexes. While I have the ability to purchase food and drinks at the facility that is not the case for all parents and families that come here. This facility needs to update their guidelines on what should and should not be allowed. There are people who can't eat food and drinks sold at this facility based on allergies, health issues, income and a variety of other conditions. Our coach was further told that if our parents cause any other issues about not being able to bring a Gatorade that our players would be kicked out of the tournament. I could maybe understand if people were trying to bring in alcohol, but that is not the case we are just trying to keep our children hydrated and healthy in this weather they have to play in, while most other sports were cancelled this weekend. Poor choice! Just hurting the kids! Also, hope nothing serious happens to any of these kids in this weather since they are not allowed to have hydration drinks with them. read more

We are here twice a week, and I much rather be here on a weekday than on the weekends! I will tell you the cleanliness here is only on point during the weekdays and I think that's because they aren't open until the afternoon! It seems to be that they clean it at the end of the day, so it's ready for the next day but they don't maintain it throughout the day! The weekends are the worst, they run out of toilet paper and never refill and they don't clean up the floors! I'm pretty sure the smeared blood on the door in the middle stall has been there for a few months. The fields are decent but I wouldn't dare to dive on the dirt because it's like concrete! They do the upkeep in the dining area but that's pretty much it! My kids love to play on the grass field in the front and that's a nice plus! read more

I don't know who runs the snack shop at the Sportsplex, but the spoiled "mean girls" that worked the counter during my son's baseball tournament 1) were extremely rude, 2) messed up multiple orders, including mine, 3) didn't apologize for their mistakes, and 4) actually blamed customers for their mistakes. I understand this isn't a high-end restaurant where the goal is to take care of customers. But rather than paying triple the amount something costs to have it handed to me by an entitled little brat, I think I'll just violate their policy and sneak food in if we ever have the misfortune of playing there again. The fields are nice, I'll give them that. But you're pretty much forced to interact with the shrews in the snack shop when you're scheduled for five hours of games and they don't let you bring outside food. SPORTSPLEX MANAGEMENT: If your "no outside food or drink" policy is going to require that I buy from you, put someone capable of being decent to another human being behind the counter. With each new director of the soccer leagues it gets worse and worse to play here. The current director doesn't put out schedules until the last possible minute. They keep hiring under qualified referees with little to no knowledge of the rules of the game. Making a complaint to the current director is useless. He just stares at you with a blank expression and does nothing to resolve any issues. This used to be a fun and safe environment to play soccer. It has become neither fun nor safe as the referees show no regard to the safety of players. The increase in on field altercations has been exponential. The sportsplex says it prides itself on creating well balanced leagues and it couldn't be farther from the truth. My wife, a multitude of friends and I have been playing here for almost a decade and the decline in quality is ridiculous to say the least. read more

The overall facility is pretty clean, and the music is a nice touch. Having to pay $3 every time to enter on top of the team expenses is too much. The restrooms are very dirty and unsanitary. The snack bar is nice to grab some drinks after the game. For soccer, the leagues are not very strong and there is on referee in particular that is very unprofessional who has cursed at players multiple times. The soccer manager was notified, but that referee is still working. read more

Where to begin. The Sportsplex used to be managed very well and the indoor youth refs used to be good at their job. Over the past few years (3-4) this has steadily gone down. Player safety is no longer a concern. Refs do not make calls when they should. Either lack of knowing the rules or they just don't care, but the impact is to the players. Refs have an ego that is supported by the management at Sportsplex. Sad because this used to be a great place for youth sports, but not anymore. Oh and the current management doesn't think it is important to respond to a concerned parents email for an explanation as to why the refs allow aggressive behavior to continue on the field which ultimately puts other players at risk. I caution any parent before enrolling your kid into one of their youth sports programs. There are better options that the Sportsplex. read more

A great place for family and friends to gather for watching team sports. I have been there for both soccer and softball. This complex is so clean and well maintained and offers shade covering for the fans. I hope they get some extra help for the snack bar because the food and drinks are so great but lines are long. A very nice place to participate in a baseball tournament. Plenty of TV's inside to catch your favorite game in between tournament play and the food is decent enough for "ballpark" food. My only complaint is the fact that you cannot take your beer to your seat and enjoy your game. Not sure why that is but it is strictly enforced. The nice thing is that you're given a token as you enter that is redeemable for a drink inside so basically there isn't an entrance fee if you planned on getting any type of drink from the snack bar. read more

I love having a facility like this near home. The soccer leagues are great; Anthony the soccer coordinator is super helpful. The fields are in great condition. Overall the refs ok. Would love to see them get a liquor license, but a beer right after a game on site is nice! The food is snack bar quality. You do have to pay a $2.50 entrance fee, each time you go in, so make sure you have some spare change before your game. Great for kids and adults! read more

I love the softball program and I continue to play there. Soccer is a different story. I am finishing out the soccer season and will look for somewhere else to play once the season ends. This is because there is one referee that is clearly biased to make calls for the team he is friends with and games against that team with him as ref are almost unplayable. If you complain, you are told no one else is complaining and nothing is done by league management. I would love to play soccer there again, but for now I'm taking my soccer business elsewhere. read more

This is review is particularly for the soccer league that they run here. You'd think if you pay $3 to get in every single game in addition to league fees and referee fees, they'd hire officials who are knowledgeable and consistent. Sadly they do neither. The referees are inconsistent and each follow different rules, so you never know what to expect. They stand on the sideline without moving and talk to the score keepers. They do not provide feedback or explanation on calls they make, and if you ask them a question they want to send you off the field. It is very obviously they do not train these employees or require them to have knowledge of the sport itself. There are many other facilities such as Eastlake Soccer league , La Mesa Indoor, Poway Indoor, Memorial Indoor, Point Loma YMCA, and Vavi league that are more consistent and have more knowledgeable staff. I have played at them all and none are as bad as here. And this is coming from someone who has been playing at Santee Sportsplex for over 4 years. The officials have just gotten worse. I'd look into other leagues before settling for this one. The prices for the quality here is not worth it at all, the facility itself and the snack bar are probably the only reason people still come back. read more

This is the first time I've ever been here and I've been to a lot of ball parks.... this place has the BEST nachos ever. Yes this review is just based on their nachos. I don't think I've ever had nachos with full cheese coverage as these mfs do. I mean I got to the bottom layer of chips and there was still PLENTY of cheese left to cover the chips. No chip was left behind when it came to the cheese. I plan on literately coming here just to eat these bomb ass nachos again. A couple months back I was suckered (by a friend) into signing up for an adult soccer league for those in the "over 30" club. I've played at the McGrath YMCA in Rancho SD and La Mesa Indoor before, so I figured let's tick another indoor soccer venue off my list. The Santee Sportsplex is on a different level than the aforementioned indoor soccer spots. This place is NICE. There are 2 soccer fields that are well-maintained and there are 3 really nice Baseball/Softball fields and a batting cage. It's really quite a spacious place. The fields aren't crammed next to each other which is great because it allows you and your squad to get a little practice in before your game. There's a kids area right near the entrance - which is closed off, so it's not like some creepers can just stroll in without the attendant manning the gate noticing. Their snack bar/bar is well stocked, too. Yes, you heard me correctly, bar. Are you feeling like you need a little liquid courage before getting out onto the soccer pitch? Grab a pint or pitcher of some quality suds and imbibe. Or, hit them up post-game to celebrate or drown ye sorrows! There is seating both inside and outside the bar, so you've got options. The only cons are the entry fee ($3), even though you receive a token that can go towards a beverage. Not everyone wants to get a drink (shocking, right?) so the tokens may never get used (tragic). Secondly, the refs can be hit or miss. Preferential treatment to those that are cool with the refs can happen. Further, it seems like they forget that guys over 30 get fired up over things. Don't be so quick to send someone off for 2min after they get upset over a garbage call. A simple warning can go a long way, try it sometimes! Anyway, this is definitely an awesome venue to play sports. If you're looking for a league this spot is definitely superior to some of the others in town. Check them out! read more
