We haven't had any substantial work done on the pool since October of 2022 when they shot the gunite. Since then a contractor has shown up for a few days before Christmas to install the waterproofing, the tile at the waterline and 3/4 of the travertine coping that surrounds the pool. The owner has not called me, Brandon, the project manager has only returned one of my phone calls and that was on 13 January. I had a question about the coping and he asked me to send him a photo, which I did. He never responded to the text or called me again. The last phone call and text message that I sent have not been returned. I have also emailed Spotlight Pools and called the office. An answering service answered the telephone. I have not received an e-mail or telephonic response. The owners telephone appears to be disconnected as well. It is beginning to look like this project has been abandoned by Spotlight Pools. read more

10/18: Well, there isn't really much to update since two months ago, but I have reached out to the project manager four times now over the last two weeks and still have not heard a response. I highly suggest you continue looking if you are considering this company to complete any work for you. Well... I use the word "complete" very loosely. I am doubtful it will be completed at this point. The only positive reviews seem to be from those who work for the company- seemingly trying to boost their reviews. For your own sanity- don't be like me and be tricked into feeling supported by them. 8/30: Well, they came and finished the tile and coping. Just a recap: it's officially been 8 months since we went under contract; the hole was dug and pool shell was poured within 2 months! Super quick. And then they all but stopped working on the pool. I literally have trees growing from the dirt mound out back. I'm still bitter about the decking. It was communicated with me that 800sf of brushed concrete around the pool was to be included in that cost, represented in the contract as "TBD" because Gordon (sales and liason) said after I see the pool poured, I may want to go larger than the 800sf and I may opt for staining or stamping. They are now saying that's not how it works. Make sure EVERYTHING you get is solid in writing, because they really like to get on the phone and tell you things that can be "misconstrued". I'll update when progress is made. It truly should only be 3-4 more working days, but I've been hearing "next week" for 6 months, so we shall see when the next update will be. 8/17: Wow. Is all I have to say. The level of unprofessionalism is unreal! My liaison and salesman blocked my cell phone because I asked for legal documents. I have called and left multiple messages for the owner to call me back. He has failed to do so. There has still been no progress done, other than halfway completing tile and coping. The manager came today to pick up a check. Before we agreed to pay, we had some questions- number 1- when will workers be here? They have said "next week" since March 1st. He said it could be up to two years!! TWO YEARS?! Headache and nightmare to deal with. David- owner, will not be kind if there is a disagreement. Very hot-headed and disrespectful to customers and Brandon (project manager). 7/12: Well. Communication has yet to improve. Still takes days to hear a response and "the crew keeps getting pushed back." Apparently their crews get pushed back for months at a time. I would not recommend business with this company unless you have no desire to use your pool that you've paid thousands and thousands for, for a couple of years. The project manager told me it'd be finished this week, yet STILL nobody has come out to my house. Had I known they just wouldn't show up for months, I'd never have hired this company. 6/26, 7 months after signing my contract. Still no further progress since my last update. I find communication still isn't great. I've began a new rule: wait 2 business days from one text to the next to avoid harassment. But man... the lack of/time between responses is irritating. I have paid $100,000 for a pool that won't be getting any concrete around it. A hole of water in the yard. I feel very strongly that more expensive projects get put ahead of me on the schedule. That or I'm forgotten. Let's hope for something more than a concrete shell and some plumbing in time to enjoy it this season. 4/12: The process started out very smoothly. I chose this company because of their open communication and I was very clear with that. As the months go by and nobody shows up I have been seeing less communication in addition to a blowup from my salesman. Not nearly as satisfied as I was when I signed the contract in January, as it is currently June and they have been to my house twice since the beginning of March 2/14: So far the experience has been fantastic. If you would enjoy waiting 18+ months for a half-finished pool, wasting your hard-earned money, love working with lawyers and initiating lawsuits, taking your time to file complaints with the state contractors board, having an open hole and mud piles in your backyard for several years, and ultimately NOT having a swimming pool to enjoy, than working with Spotlight Pools is the right choice for you! Dealing with this company, who has earned a coveted F rating from the Better Business Bureau, has been a total nightmare! If you are reading this review, I strongly urge you to run away and find another pool company. This company will take your money up front, but absolutely fail to deliver a pool, and simply not care that you've been taken advantage of. You will go months on end without progress, communication, and zero commitment to any kind of a schedule. I signed my contract in Sep 2021, and I have paid 95% of the contract price, made all of my progress payments exactly when requested, and as of Feb 2023, my pool is only halfway done and there are numerous quality problems. I am now terminating the contract and the estimates to finish the pool with another company are around $80,000. The owner of the company is completely unresponsive, doesn't care, and is more concerned with taking your hard earned money than having his company work on your pool. I am in direct contact with 10+ other Spotlight Pools customers, some who have left similar reviews here, that are in the same situation. Find another company to build your pool! read more

Find it funny that Dave says my feedback in my review is concerning when he won't call back for the last 8 weeks and has kept over $150,000 of my money. By far the worst company I have ever dealt with. So unethical and unprofessional that they honestly should not be able to run a business and con people out of money. Communication has stopped and I'm left with an unfinished pool like many other reviews I've read. 15 months i have given them to complete this pool. The work they have done is very sloppy. My wife and I purchased our dream home in Garner North Carolina in November 2019. We knew that we wanted a pool, but we also heard that the process is horrible and be careful of what pool company you choose. We looked at all of the big names in the area. They razzled and dazzled us with talks of what they could do for us and made promises to get it done quickly after starting the process. Somehow quick to them meant 6 months to a year to complete our pool. A few companies came out to do a consultation, looked at the site and said that they couldn't even start until 2021. Then steps in Spotlight Pools, from the first phone call and introduction, they gained our trust and business with honesty, knowledge, character and professionalism. Saying all of the right things to obtain new business is the easy part. Every good salesman can make sales, but the follow through is where service tends to drop off, but not with Spotlight Pools. The impression of Dave and his company exponentially grew with each stage and not only did he gain our trust, he kept it and expanded upon it throughout the entire process. When the job was done and the check was signed, customer service could've stopped there because after all he already got paid right? But no, Ken (who works with Dave), again went above and beyond with our "pool school." He thoroughly educated us on the full functionality and capabilities of our new pool, added products and cleaned the entire pool! Wow, truly the best overall customer service experience we have had in years! Spotlight Pools has a different way of doing things. They laid out the process step by step and made us aware of what to expect on each level of the pool build and made us a part of the process. The owner works as hard as anyone else one the project. He actually dug our pool, yes, your read right, the owner of the company dug our pool and did our final grading. He takes a hands-on approach as he maneuvers several different sites at a time while still checking in and regularly keeping us up to date. He even personally answered most of our questions. Dave and his team always made us feel important, valued and part of the process. My wife and I were impressed every step of the way. The whole process from conception to completion was made simple. We got our dream pool in just 79 days, that included permits and weather. Everything that glitters is not gold, just because a company has a big name doesn't mean that they can deliver on their promises while still providing wonderful communication, attention to detail and maintaining promised timelines. Spotlight Pools didn't meet our expectations, they exceeded them, in every way and we couldn't be happier about our pool experience. While the pool has taken a while to build, I think it will be a quality pool. My yard was difficult to design a pool on due to the slope and they came up with a good, creative design. Throughout construction delays primarily blamed on the covid labor market they were always responsive. I never have trouble getting someone on the phone within an hour if not immediately it's just that I didn't always hear what I wanted to hear. I appreciate the communication. While some of the underlying concrete work was perhaps a little messy and concerning, I eventually realized as I saw the building process unfold that it is solid pool and the look of the shell ultimately does not effect the look of the finished pool. It just makes things a little harder for the guys who do the tile and the plaster which doesn't really effect me. Building a pool is a frustrating process by nature, your back yard it messy for a while, but ultimately this will be a quality pool built by a good company. read more

where to begin with my experience. I can only say if you use this company you are definitely doing it at your own risk. you can look at the positive reviews and believe what you like. Here is my experience. I hired this company in june 2021 to build a guinite pool. we are now in late October 2022 and I still have a uncompleted pool. This is not a pool company. This is a subcontractor. They have spent the last 1.5 years trying to find workers. they come out work 1 or 2 weeks and then you cannot get anything done for 4 or 5 months. They initially gave us a quote for a pool with no retention wall. we agreed. then they came back a week later and stated we needed a large retention wall.. we had a small hill in our yard, but we agreed to whatever they said we needed to do. They didnt inform us they planned to put a large hill of dirt behind the retention wall. that we would not agree to. then they gave us 300 sq ft of concrete at 20.00 sq ft. we didnt realize that was 4 ft around the pool. we got several quotes for 6.00 to 7.00 per sq ft. needless to say we hired someone else for concrete. their excuse was because we didnt let them put a large hill of dirt against our retention wall, we changed the scope of the project. we have done and paid everything this company has asked of us. over 120,000 we have spent, yet 16 months later we still have incomplete pool. we had no project manager the entire project. needless to say noone knew what they were supposed to be doing with our pool. unable to reach them we are now hiring another company to complete and must take them to court, good luck read more
