Whatever Azalea's recruiting process, they employ an extraordinary staff - one consisting almost exclusively of people much kinder, friendlier, more caring, more patient and more positive in outlook than the norm! These are people who enjoy interacting with the residents, like what they are doing, and do it well - from the chefs who cook delicious meals for the residents to those who clean residents' rooms to the nursing staff and the management. Of special note is the assistance the staff gives residents with practical matters eg. Internet/online purchases and device maintenance. The planned activities, special meals, and social events are also very popular. And Azalea has a vibrant sense of community that never feels overwhelming! I would want and expect nothing less for my parents, and I have told Azalea's staff, in taking care of my parents, they have been taking care of my sometimes-anxious mind as well. It took about 14 hours for me to finally get it. They wake you around 6 to take your meds. The place is entirely TOO WARM!! I had a very hard time sleeping because of that. The food gets 2 stars out of 5. The RWJ HOSPITAL had better food. I was very bored. Because of Covid there's nothing to do but watch TV 24-7. I liked the physical therapist and therapy but I could have used MORE of it every day.

I had to threaten to call the local police department to file charges before this was rectified. The food is HORRIBLE. My Mother basically survived on PB&J and yogurt! If she ate, she ate, if she didn't, she didn't' and they could care less. My Mother was very bored most of the time. There is no place to go and she was basically left in the main dining room all day watching TV unless she wanted to stay in her room. There was no stimulation, very little interaction and hardly any activities. With that being said, my Mother seemed to be losing her ability to have a conversation. I feel that these people are being neglected, to say the least. After looking for another facility for almost a YEAR, I am happy to say that my Mother is OUT of there. She is much happier and I can see a big difference in her already. Her new doctor did routine BW and tested her urine. She is dehydrated, has a UTI and also has some kind or organism in her urine. I was told that this has been festering for a while. If left untreated, she would have been hospitalized and may have become septic, WHICH IS LIFE THREATENING! This is basically a warehouse for your loved one to DIE. People were dying left and right. One woman fell out of the hoyer and ended up in the hospital. She died a few days later. If you care about your loved one, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! God help the people that don't have any family or advocate to help them! I GIVE THIS PLACE NO STARS! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
