The facility is well maintained, vibrant (even amidst challenging Covid conditions where they had to think creatively to offer group activities), and the management staff is active, visible, and engaged in the day-to-day community operations. After close to two years of frustration, numerous meetings and not seeing any changes I met with Sunrise. I decided to move my mom to sunrise even though we were in the middle of COVID. If was the best thing I ever did. Not just according to me but also according to my mom. Sunrise has it dialed in and all the things that used to frustrate me are gone. The CNA,s have spent time getting to know her. My mom says she feels like they really take an interest in getting to know her. My advise to anyone who is looking for assisted living in the area, don't be fooled by the shiny penny. It is the concern and care for the family member that is most important. You can come back when you are able to walk. They billed me over 12,000 for 4 weeks stay and are still trying to bill me for things I never used. The staff that we worked with couldn't have been more accommodating and caring during our delicate situation. Oak Hill is a very lovely place, My mom has been calling it home for at least a couple years…read more I am a regular visitor, mostly everyone knows me and I love to stop and to chat with the residents and staff. There is a lot they offer to everyone, there's daily programs, bus trips on Tuesday and Thursday, special entertainment, students who come weekly to interact with everyone. Participation is encouraged, but not required, everyone is different, after all. I encourage my mom to participate and they usually have someone come and escort her to activities. Mom has had her medicine well managed, and I felt that wellness staff has been attentive to my mom's needs for care as they come up: from monitoring her heart to helping her brush her teeth and cleaning her room. I've worked with the Financial side of things, discussing what's next when mom transitioned from private pay to Medicaid and adding their dental coverage, and new medical plan. I love that everyone can have their pets, my mom has her kitty salsa, everyone is welcome and everyone is celebrated for what they can do. I've been impressed with their transitioning throughout the Covid pandemic, keeping the residents safe and Covid free. This has been so very difficult! Maybe things aren't always perfect, we are but human. I see that the team at Oakhill from the Kitchen, Leas, Wellness Center, Housekeeping, front desk and everyone in management, work hard and care for everyone. I feel like they make a special effort to give the residents a good experience every day. I'm there so frequently, people are always telling me stories about my mom. There has been some management changes due to retirement, and I think once everyone's adjusted it will be wonderful to see the new ideas from everyone. Oak Hill has a bright spirit about it, I definitely recommend it. check out their facebook page to see the many events that they have. Their focus is the residents. The residents also have a resident's council that gives ideas and opinions of what they'd like to provide input into. I am glad my mom lives here. I highly recommend checking them out!

My Mom stayed here for 6 months. We found the management team rude, slow to respond, disorganized,…read moreout of touch with the resident needs, lacks experience and compassion, and were extremely difficult to work with. The nursing staff denied receiving emails that it was proven they had received, resulting in delays in care. They regularly had issues with managing medicines, and when we attempted to engage them, it took several days to respond to inquiries. The finance team refused to acknowledge their error, and then treated us rudely like we were at fault, and showed absolutely no compassion during any interactions. The general manager was rarely in the building, and failed to engage with us when we had issues with the management team. From a facility perspective, the 1st floor hallway always smelled like urine, and there were several weeks where temperatures in the resident rooms were under 60 degrees and they refused to turn on the heat or provide space heaters, blaming it on the costs. If there was any bright spot during her 6-month stay, it was the housekeeping, receptionist, and dining room teams - at least they were friendly.

We were excited to move mom into her unit in October, but moved out about 3 months later for…read morevarious reasons. Mom had a 2 bathroom unit with a washer and dryer and was living independently. When we viewed the unit, the closet doors were painted shut (more on that later). We were told that would be fixed. When we went to check the unit before move in, the closet doors were still painted shut. When we moved in, the closet was fine but there were other issues with the condition of unit that did not meet our expectations. The washer/dryer was not hooked up. There was a piece unconnected and looked as if an animal had been living in there. We did not realize at the time that neither showed worked. The bathroom off her bedroom had an arm bar for support at the toilet, however the shower temperature could not be adjusted for comfort. It was too cold or scalding hot. When my mom moved out months later, this issue had still not been resolved. The second bathroom the shower head was broken. It took about 30 days before it was fixed. So 30 days before mom could take a comfortable shower. Not acceptable! This bathroom had no arm bar for toilet and was difficult for her to use the toilet without support. More on this later. In our experience, the maintenance people were nice, but there was no attempt to bring in someone else when they were not able to fix things. Painting doors shut is not the work of someone with experience. We also purchased a new toilet paper holder as the one provided was extremely difficult for even me, and my brother in law, and certainly not appropriate for an older person. The meal times were also an issue. Dinner was 4-5:30 but residents were able to come early and were able to eat dinner at 3:45. Mom would come down at 5:15 and the staff was already putting things away so the full menu was not available and they would run out of items, sometimes even vegetables. We felt that the management was not reactive and did not handle her situation with any urgency. In December I expressed what was going on with management. Mom was unhappy and was considering moving out, there was no arm bar in the one bathroom making her life more difficult. No action was taken. There was also no suggestion that putting an arm bar in the bathroom was even a possibility. I didn't realize until mid January when she was moving out that they could have installed an arm bar for her. At this point she was moving out in a week, and mom did not want to incur this expense since she was moving out. The lack of preparing her unit to be fully functioning, the shutting down of the dining room so early, the inability of things to get fixed, and the lack of concern by the staff resulted in a terrible experience resulting in much time and expense for her, and difficulty in managing her daily life activities. In the end she was glad she moved out as she was miserable living there. I don't like to post negative reviews. The people we met were very nice. But it did not meet our expectations and there was no accountability or follow up when they received feedback.

I spent many hours keeping Mom company in her room, and every single interaction I overheard between staff and residents was kind, gentle and respectful. Every staff member is helpful, regardless of whether the current need is in their job description. All laundry is done daily, and the facility is always sparkly clean. The compassion we experienced was infinitely superior to nearly every setting we've encountered in life; I felt so cared for even in our initial admission meeting. So very thankful God brought my mom to Highland Oaks.

They never changed my dad. They never bathed him.. If my mom didn't go everyday he would be sitting in filthy clothes and feces... If your loved has dementia I would definitely not have them go here. After 3 weeks of being there they sent him to a behavioral health facility and we couldn't visit at all and he got covid and sepsis and then basically passed away in hospice a month later. I guess if you want your loved one to pass away send them here. They know what to do.
