The garlic had roots on it, as it should, and they were huge bulbs. They were out of strawberries that day. She said the cold weather has caused them to lose alot of the strawberries in their field. Today is 6-2-26 and we have approximately 1 more week of strawberries in Season. I'm not sure why they had none, because we went to another farm just 15 minutes away (Von Thun) and they had strawberries coming out of their ears ! I did buy a half dozen of their cinnamon, apple cider donuts, and unfortunately, I was disappointed. First of all, they were dusted with way too much cinnamon sugar. It literally overtook the flavor of the doughnut. Secondly, unfortunately, the donuts were dry. Apple cider donuts are supposed to be soft, and moist in the middle, and they were just, well, dry in the middle. It definitely took away from the enjoyment of the doughnut. Everyone who works here is wonderful and explains the CSA they offer, as well as what is available to those who want to shop here and there. All of their fruits and veggies looked delicious and fresh! I ended up buying some potatoes and carrots. They seemed to be a busy place for their CSA members and while I cannot afford that membership right now, it is something I will absolutely keep in mind for the future. Prices are fair, you can walk the fields, if you have the CSA you can pick your own berries. A wonderful spot if you want fresh produce and want to know exactly where it's coming from.

Shame on our Nassau county legislators for holding up their contract. Farming is a challenge here due to weather, blight, bugs - yet through it all Caroline and Dan have been able to provide for all of us who want better than what we are being offered in the supermarkets. They certainly don't do it for the money. If anyone is free on a Saturday go check out the tin house, tour the farm, enjoy the beauty that they have created (just in case the worst thing happens and Nassau county lets this farm go fallow).

The Mendies farm is one of the very few CSA's in the area who offer a true winter CSA. In the dead of the winter we are still getting fresh baby spinach, chard, mache, sprouts, shoots. During the summer we always have an abundance of veggies ... whether it be various varieties of squash or eggplant etc etc. Lawrence and Heidi makes an extra effort to make sure CSA members have abundance of veggies (its difficult in the winter but at that point we are just grateful for fresh veggies). They try to include expensive hard to find items such as Mache lettuce, rosa bianca eggplants, sun gold cherry tomatoes, shunkyo radishes, hakurei turnips, etc.. They are very reasonable, for example when there were not enough tomatoes for the winter tomato program instead of saying well its your loss you knew it was a trial. They gave those members extra tomatoes in the spring to make up for not having them in the winter. So you know you will always get your moneys worth. I love being able to bring my kids so they can feed the chickens, goats and pig and then being able to feed my kids the eggs we get from the same chickens. I agree with the other review that Lawrence and Heidi are always around, always friendly and very nice. I have met so many people through them as well.
