It is also a little pricier than the supermarket but you pay for quality. It is kind of hidden so make sure you know where you are going when coming. I would make sure to order in advance especially if you have a big item. They also have eggs and other stuff if you are interested. Overall, they do a good job and we love the product.

Having spent the morning looking for farm fresh eggs, I followed the sign to their front gate. Met with a "hay and straw" sign, a "yes, we're open!" sign, and a "private property" sign, i checked the farm out on google. Seeing reviews about the kind owners and good eggs, I turned in. The market was closed unfortunately, so I made my way out the other exit of the farm. As I went down the exit road, an SUV pulled up behind me, flashing his brights and honking his horn. I stopped at the turnoff to the main road, and Ryck Suydam (based on their facebook profile) got out of the car, came up to my window and asked, "What the hell were you doing on my farm?" I tried to explain politely that I was looking for farm eggs but he interrupted me, asking, "Did you see the sign?" I asked if he meant the "Yes, were open!" sign, and he clarified he meant the hay and straw sign. He said, "That sign said nothin about no eggs." I tried to apologize but was cut off with a final "Stay off of my farm" as he got back in his car. I was on the phone at the time, and made sure these quotes were exact with the person I was talking to. If this business doesn't want drive-in customers, I would suggest taking down the signs directing them to your front door and not literally chasing them off in a car. One of the worst interactions I've had the displeasure of experiencing in a while.

But the corn and the cantaloupe were no better than Shop-Rite. Now I don't mind paying extra for quality items, but today I spent $20 just on the 6 large tomatoes. I was so disappointed when I cut into 3 large tomatoes. They looked great on the outside; firm but not hard. But when I cut them open the white core, ran through most of the center so I had to really trim each tomato heavily for my summer tomato salad. Considering how expensive they are, I'm not happy, but maybe it's a fluke. I'll wait a week or two before I go back and I'll buy less to try. If the Jersey Fresh quality doesn't improve, I will find a different farm.

The Mendies farm is one of the very few CSA's in the area who offer a true winter CSA. In the dead of the winter we are still getting fresh baby spinach, chard, mache, sprouts, shoots. During the summer we always have an abundance of veggies ... whether it be various varieties of squash or eggplant etc etc. Lawrence and Heidi makes an extra effort to make sure CSA members have abundance of veggies (its difficult in the winter but at that point we are just grateful for fresh veggies). They try to include expensive hard to find items such as Mache lettuce, rosa bianca eggplants, sun gold cherry tomatoes, shunkyo radishes, hakurei turnips, etc.. They are very reasonable, for example when there were not enough tomatoes for the winter tomato program instead of saying well its your loss you knew it was a trial. They gave those members extra tomatoes in the spring to make up for not having them in the winter. So you know you will always get your moneys worth. I love being able to bring my kids so they can feed the chickens, goats and pig and then being able to feed my kids the eggs we get from the same chickens. I agree with the other review that Lawrence and Heidi are always around, always friendly and very nice. I have met so many people through them as well.

The whole order in advance thing is a failure. A farm should harvest what they have and then sell it to the CSA members or the public. The whole idea of ordering in advance and picking up doesn't work. They never have what you order, and often times there are other products available that were not listed on the website. Those are for "loyal members" who have been around longer. What? Is this a farm or a social club. Leafy products: yes I understand it's an organic farm and bugs will come through here or there. But we routinely expect to find leafy products INFESTED with bugs and dirt. A certain amount of dirt is healthy in vegetables and chlorinated water is bad for vegetables, but this is bad. The least they could do is rinse the stuff off a bit as other farms do. Other farms have water tanks where they soak the vegetables off a bit. No such luxuries here. The CSA membership gives you no real discount on produce. You buy in at face value, versus Cherry Grove Organic where $400 buys you $500. I wanted to try Honey Brook but We will head quickly back to Cherry Grove next year.

During this 2021 season, most of the array of vegetables were only offered to people who chose the largest plans. We would go to pick up the produce each week and see that our share size was excluded from ordering the majority of the produce. This huge change from prior years ,was not told to us before they asked for our $$ in advance.In past years, there were many many pick -your -own options that were included in the price of a share. Again, we were not told in advance of the full season payment, that there would be hardly any vegetables for picking. That is a huge change from prior years and yet it was not disclosed before the fact. The big changes this year, can not be blamed on them outsourcing/trying software to track inventory etc.. Nondisclosure of changes ahead of time so consumers would know what they were/ were not buying, in our opinion, is the reason for our poor rating.

Many farmers markets supplement with outside goods, but we were told all the produce was straight from their own farm. As you drive in, you can see all the chickens running around in the open space. I can't wait to taste this chicken!
