What a wonderful little farm! Luckily there's a sign and GPS puts you in the right place, otherwise it looks like private party that is completely closed off. The days it is open a wonderful farmer's market operates inside. Everyone who works here is wonderful and explains the CSA they offer, as well as what is available to those who want to shop here and there. All of their fruits and veggies looked delicious and fresh! I ended up buying some potatoes and carrots. They seemed to be a busy place for their CSA members and while I cannot afford that membership right now, it is something I will absolutely keep in mind for the future. Prices are fair, you can walk the fields, if you have the CSA you can pick your own berries. A wonderful spot if you want fresh produce and want to know exactly where it's coming from. read more

This is one of the best organic farms on Long Island and I am so lucky to have found them. We have been members for about 5 years now and just love all the fresh produce as well as the farmers themselves. They are constantly answering my questions, helping to supplement and fill my home garden and they are just generally nice people. Shame on our Nassau county legislators for holding up their contract. Farming is a challenge here due to weather, blight, bugs - yet through it all Caroline and Dan have been able to provide for all of us who want better than what we are being offered in the supermarkets. They certainly don't do it for the money. If anyone is free on a Saturday go check out the tin house, tour the farm, enjoy the beauty that they have created (just in case the worst thing happens and Nassau county lets this farm go fallow). read more

This Farmstead & CSA are very centrally located on LI @ The Bethpage Restoration site just South of LI Ex'way (#495) & more or less on the Nassau/Suffolk line. As a Vegan & Environmentalist I simply can not recommend anything as much as encouraging & eating LOCAL & Organic Produce! Purchase of a CSA is the best way to enjoy fresh & organic produce abundantly & with the least cost. Community Supported Agriculture or CSA is a very old concept where one pays the farmer in advance so s(he) can count on selling the produce s(he) grows. During mostly perfect growing seasons the value here is amazing as you will end up spending a fraction of the amount you would @ the grocery store for produce perfection rather than the sad vegs one usually ends up w'there! During years of farming 'difficulties' such as hurricanes or extremely early/late freezes it ends up costing a bit more but the quality never changes only the abundance! Besides the commitment of a CSA, THIS farm also offers a 'Shopper's Share' where you plan on paying a certain amount ($100 - $???) of produce per season & depending on the amount you get, up to %15 off the cost. This 'Shoppers Share' is a great way to learn how much you really spend on produce during the growing season on LI which now is *almost* throughout the year what w'the increased temps of global warming & the fine storage of late fall crops Restoration Farm is capable of! The initial one time amount of both a CSA &/or Shoppers Share can be 'off-putting' but if one honestly computes their weekly expenses on produce they will see it's a good deal. This is especially true if one is accustomed to paying for Organic produce shipped from 'who-know-where' that was picked 'who-knows-when' and has 'who-knows-what' nutrients left in it! I have been a CSA member for over a decade, though full disclosure @ a different Organic Farm b/c I happened to find them 1st., AND have had a Shopper's Share here for $200 less %10 for the last 3 years! For the first few years I used to go to Whole Foods a few time a year & compare the cost of the same vegs in my CSA to what was available @ that time @WFs. Each time I found the size of a head of lettuce, the per lb. cost of the potatoes, the limpness of the kale to be far bigger or firmer w'less waste in outside leaves, woody stems, 'soft' spots even if sometimes the price was comparable. Admittedly I am Vegan & husband has no choice as it's a Vegan Kitchen, so we eat lots of vegs, but if you are well informed you'll know current medical advice is that the more vegs & less animal products you consume the healthier you will be and THIS is an ideal way to get more vegs into your diet. The only negative to eating locally is that you learn about availability....Spring brings BEAUTIFUL greens, which, aside from somewhat heat tolerant lettuces are absent during the heat of Summer when it's ALL about Cukes, Zukes, Tomatoes & Eggplants. Late summer brings the greens back, broccoli & cauliflower along w'lots of crops that are available through Christmas & even well into the New Year, such as many types of squash & the only kind of pumpkin worth eating! In my mind your 'carbon footprint', GREATLY reduced by eating local w'lots of vegs. is WELL worth learning to fully appreciate the value of each & every crop during it's season! BTW though I've shared extensively how one can get the best deal here it's also the best place to stop for that head of lettuce & a few radishes you need for tonight's salad or a place to include on your Sat. shopping to give the 'little ones' something to enjoy & NOT complain about! If you are on the Ex'way on your way home & need only a fresh veg. for dinner, it will take you less time to go a mile South, as long as it's a Tue. or a Thur., pick out a veg., pay for it & drive back to #495, than any grocery store that is not on the roads you will be taking home! Some years back, looking for a way to supplement my own CSA I discovered their Farmstand just off my daily commute south on Rt. #110. On non-school days both Caroline & Dan are usually there along w'their kids and there are quite a few outdoor riding toys like tractors along w'the usual various sized bikes & a large paved & vehicle free area always available for riding around in. Depending on the time of year there is also a large # of products either grown or produced locally, from Beer, to Oysters, to pickled vegs, honey & eggs along w'the occasional fresh chicken & on special occasions various crafts. read more

Place is a local farm stand. All the produce is locally grown. Selection varies from week to week depending on what's ready. Place is a hidden gem. Locally grown produce on a independently owned farm, on Long Island is very cool. Today's score was fresh tomitillos and some black plum preserves. Simply outstanding. read more

Joined this CSA (community supported agriculture) since I stopped by a farm stand 8 years ago. I fell in love with the whole concept of knowing where my fruits and vegetables come from and getting to know the farmers. Caroline, Dan and the entire staff are AMAZING! The produce is beyond compare, I can't even begin to describe the difference between store bought and farm fresh. If you have young children, what better than to watch the free range chickens and the rooster. When you step through the gates of the farm, you completely forget the traffic and stress of suburban life. If there are any open shares I suggest you grab one! read more

Eight years ago we joined Restoration Farm CSA to 'eat locally.' We got that and so much more. We know where and how our food is grown, how fresh it is. Our diets improved with better variety of vegetables. We spend time walking the paths and harvesting our own berries, cutting herbs and flowers. Some days we feel like getting a little closer to the farm so we volunteer, but more often we pop in and grab our share, pick our berries and head home. The farm stand is great! But the limited hours kind of stink. They're only open wed 4-6 and Sunday 10-12.

My husband and I joined Restoration Farm CSA about 5 years ago and we love the place. It just keeps getting better, with improvements happening every season. The farmers are always easy to reach if we have a question or concern. The farm feels very much like a community. Members are always welcome to join in the planting and harvesting. They offer classes and workshops about food and health and herbs, and more. The pick-ups are always enjoyable, as we get to chat with other members, as well as the farmers, while we load up our bags with organically grown veggies. When the berries are in, we take a walk to the berry fields to pick our own berries, which I find to be very relaxing and fun. Then, before we leave, we stop and pick some flowers and herbs, which are abundant here. Overall, a wonderful investment of time and money. read more

I have been a member of Restoration Farm for several years, and I absolutely love it. I split a full share with my friend, so I pick up my share every other Saturday (you can choose from certain days for pickup) from June through October. I travel from Smithtown to the farm, and it's absolutely worth the trip. The variety of vegetables is wonderful and always evolving. Everything is always fresh, and because it's all harvested the day of pickup, everything stays fresh in your fridge far longer than any produce you would buy at a store. I've also tried veggies that I have never seen before, such as kohlrabi, and liked it! It has also expanded my horizons as a cook because I am receiving produce that I wouldn't ordinarily choose or even find at the grocery store. There are also berries, herbs, and flowers that you can pick yourself, which can be a fun activity for the family! There are always new ideas and new offerings as well, such as egg shares and chickens. There are also opportunities to volunteer to help out as well, which is a great opportunity to educate the next generation about organic farming and physical labor!! My 12-year-old son volunteered recently for a school project, and he looks forward to doing it again. It's nice to not only receive organic, locally grown food for your family, but also to support a local farm and to be part of a community/movement. read more

Restoration farm changed my whole approach to cooking and eating. The farm provides high quality organic produce that is otherwise not available locally. Each pick-up offers a variety of seasonal Vegies that were picked just that day or the day before. My husband and I have been members for about six years. Farmer, Carolyn is constantly expanding her selection and last year added a winter pickup. That means you can get prime, organic, locally grown produce for six months of the year! I am in love with this place! I have been a member of the CSA at this farm for over 5 years now, and shopped at their farm stand before becoming a member. I love the community the farm offers as well as the amazing organic produce I get every week. As a vegetarian family, we get our weeks worth of produce at one pickup. I often leave with three or more grocery bags full of perfectly ripe, just picked, organic produce. Not to mention that we can pick our own herbs and flowers as we need, the variety of both is impressive. And, when in season, I get to take my children berry picking every week for fresh strawberries, blue berries raspberries and black berries! The owners of the farm are very welcoming, and allow you to walk on the farm when ever you want. No need to question whether they are truly utilizing organic farming methods, just go anytime and see for yourself. They sell eggs that are from chickens there are truly free range and often friendly. There are toys for the kids to play with while you pick up your CSA or shop at the farm stand. And the tomatoes are addictive. Tomato season is my favorite time of the year! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this farm. So long as I live on Long Island, I will remain a member. read more
