We have purchased our Thanksgiving turkey from Griggstown Farm for at least the last 10 years and regularly stop in for duck and quail. The crusts are so thick and flaky, buttery and rich, I could eat the crusts alone, simply the best! These crusts line their homemade quiche pans which are then filled with an awesome custard of eggs, sour cream, milk, heavy cream, spinach, Swiss cheese, sea salt, black pepper and paprika. I ate the entire 18 ounce quiche all by myself without any remorse for others or my waistline, oink. These made from scratch quiches are so delicious and can be bought with bacon and cheddar, ham and Swiss, cheddar and broccoli or cheddar and Swiss. Their homemade chicken, turkey or beef pot pies are a work of art and loaded with their own or from local farms fresh grown veggies and their own or locally raised poultry which is hormone and antibiotic free. These can be bought in two sizes, five ounce or ten ounce and of course I bought the large chicken pot pie which was filled with oven roasted chicken, carrots, parsnips, celery, onions, fennel and cremini mushrooms. All of this was coated in a wonderful gravy which also had peas throughout. The crust was unbelievable! They do fill these wonderful crusts with other things like a chicken and spinach pie or a spinach and feta pie, which I would love to try. You are almost guaranteed of loving the crust and fillings so much that you will scrape your plate for the last little tidbits. Onto the soups, they had several available at the Piazza at Schmidt's farmer's market, I bought the wild mushroom soup which was in a clear broth and loaded with porcini, chanterelle, shitake and black trumpet mushrooms. The onions were plentiful and the flavors of soy, fennel, rice vinegar, truffle oil, ginger, garlic and thyme all came through. I must say the first couple of bites hubby and I were really loving but after a few more it became a little too rich for our blood and taste buds. Don't tell Griggstown but I ended up adding some cream and butter and it was much better. The butternut squash soup was thick and creamy and had heat to it, I really enjoyed this soup so much more. They offer different soups throughout the year using their own or locally grown vegetables and poultry. The next time around I will try two more varieties, I especially love a homemade tomato soup and I can only imagine that theirs would be wonderful. At their store in Princeton or on line you can order chicken boned or left whole, pheasant, duck or duck breast or leg confit, goose or Poussin. You can also purchase quail eggs, chicken sausages or turkey burgers. They make their own fruit pies from scratch and I can assure you that the peach and berry pie is over the top, hey and it has that amazing flaky crust. Another building I could have easily driven past without stopping - who knew that I would find a delicious assortment of pot pies hidden atop the gravel driveway? Ah, the Princeton native in my passenger seat. Inside I found an assortment of fall-type food, much of it in pie form - potpies, fruit pies, pie pies. Potpies are freshly made then frozen - an hour in the oven and boom - super yum in your face portal. In addition to pies, Griggstown also has an assortment of specialty oils, sauces, etc. and a deli section with some homemade things to choose from. We brought home a few small chicken potpies, a large turkey potpie to share with my dad and brother back in CT, gravy, and some chicken salad to eat in the car (complementing the extra bagels we were towing from our earlier visit to bagel barn.) We went recently (in March), and there was a small selection at the farm store for fresh produce. The farm store is indoors and has a nice-sized parking lot. I'm hoping there will be a larger selection of produce as the weather warms up, but I do think they're more known for their meat and eggs. The apples were 99 cents per pound and they were great quality and perfectly sized. I love a good crisp non-wax-coated apple. That was all we got this time but we are waiting for a more special occasion to get one of their pot pies to try, since they are pretty pricey. I was happily surprised to see they even have a vegetarian one, which is almost impossible to find in a store! As everyone else was saying, they are expensive, but I'll have to wait to judge them until I try them. From our walk around we also saw they have chicken eggs and little tiny quail eggs, and several freezers full of meat. I was pretty disappointed because I wanted to try duck eggs but they don't sell those. From their website I saw all their birds are free range and antibiotic free, which I do think is worth the extra price, since it saves all the hidden costs to health and environment over time. read more

Used my Groupon here today and just ate the chicken pot pie for late lunch/early dinner. IT WAS OUTSTANDING. Not 100-degree-day food, really, but I had a craving and this totally hit the spot. So, so flavorful and the filling was actually, like, all filling - chunks of chicken and tons of veggies (including plenty of peas, my favorite). I also bought a package of frozen chicken sausage and some cherry tomatoes. When the total came up a dollar short of the $30 Groupon value, I asked what I could find for a buck and the guy suggested a cookie. Which was also (to my surprise; I'm kind of a cookie snob) really tasty! Agree with the previous reviewer who said the service wasn't so friendly - I had attributed it to the extreme heat (it felt hotter in the store than outside) but maybe it's unrelated. :) Although I do worry about established business that offer Groupons - does it mean business isn't doing well? So that thought crossed my mind too. In any case, delicious! I will be getting the chicken pot pie again for sure and hope to try more poultry products in the future. read more

However - when I got home I realized that one was fresh and the other frozen. My fault - I should have checked them before I left the store. But my whole reason for buying there and picking up two days before Thanksgiving was because I believed I'd be obtaining two fresh turkey breasts I could begin brining. First let me say that my backround is in retail and foodservice and i deal with all kinds of customers. That being said I cannot believe the sour, dour and downright rudeness of this buisness. I came into the store, picked what I wanted and waited to check out. There was a woman who had quite a large order before me, she saw that I had only 2 items and said why dont I check out before her, I was appreciative. But before I could place my items on the counter, the man (owner) glowered and yelled NO with a mean attitude . He had NOT started her check out yet. The woman said no problem for her if we went ahead. He was not going to help us. There was an other woman of the store and she just stood there, no apology, no help. I should have left my packages on the counter and left. The store was not busy, the woman and I were the only customers in the store. There were 3 workers behind the counter all with dour expressions-no one bothered to help us. I will never go to this place ever again. Nasty attitudes and no customer service what so ever. I purchased a small Chicken Pot pie and for the price, ($12) my expectations were pretty high. I could not get past the first bite and threw it out. The sauce was watery and had an unpleasant taste. The chicken pieces were miniscule. I had to dig to actually find a piece. Ya, the vegies seemed fine and better than the average pot-pie but the sauce made the pie inedible. Live and learn. High price doesn't necessarily mean high quality. Maybe this is what the Volvo/Range Rover/BMW crowd considers fine cuisine, but I guess this makes me a Stouffers person. read more

Fruit pies are good...(we buy mostly for BBQ gifts) Shepherd's Pie is "okay"....Chicken Pot Pie is a rip-off...mostly filler, peas, carrots, token mushroom slices and very very little chicken ! I bought our third (and last) CPP in B'ville last weekend...Griggstown needs to get the "chicken count" up ! This is a small little farm stand with a freezer full of pot pies and loads of jam/jelly. They have a lot of meat options, including duck bacon, but I thought it was overpriced. I went just the other day, and didn't see fresh vegetables, but it's after first frost, so that's understandable. The parking lot here is a free-for-all. I parked way off to the side to avoid being hit, and someone still decided 5 inches from my rear bumper was a good place to park. The staff were all super friendly. Middle aged ladies helping people find things for thanksgiving. Everyone was very friendly to a tattooed 30 year old man, shopping alone, that only spends time on a farm once a year to get a holiday turkey. I didn't have a reservation, so the 16-18 pounder I was hoping for dropped to a 13 pounder, which is honestly probably still going to be too much food. They accept all major credit card, including AMMEX, which was awesome. read more

Stopped in for the first time the other day Was happy to see the sign on the door said customers must wear masks I was on line with two items, standing the required 10' back as a woman was at the counter, she had about 20 items. The woman ringing her up ( the owner ? ) apologized to me for the wait and there not being room for me to lay down my items on the counter while waiting. I only had two items so I suspect her point was her being annoyed with the woman she was ringing up. As the customer left the counter to get another item, the owner rolled her eyes, apologized to me again. I already told her it wasn't a problem and I was in no rush. The customer actually apologized to me as well, I suspect the owner actually was making her feel guilty. I only waited maybe 5 minutes, it wasn't an issue. When she left the owner began bad mouthing her. She said that she was shopping for others and going into the NYC to deliver the food and how that was wrong and dangerous as now she'll be brining NY germs back with her and people shouldn't be crossing into NY and they should shop where they live. I had nothing to say in response, she then said she probably shouldn't be bad mouthing her but it was wrong of her. When I paid and left she added, "now don't go into NY." This woman just spent $165 and the owner should never have badmouthed a customer to other customers. She's open to the public, she was wearing her mask, and for whatever reason she was delivering food, perhaps to her elderly parents or her kids in Manhattan who couldn't get to a store. If my son, also in Manhattan, couldn't get out, I'd do the same. She's entitled to her opinion but it makes her look bad to bad mouth customers when they leave. It's bad business. I'm sure if that woman knew what was said about her, she would not return to give this store her business. On another note, the chicken pot pie I purchased was good, I think mine is better. For $20.50, I was expecting better. They don't have a lot in their store, to me not worth going back. Not for the limited selection, nor for how the owner potentially will bad mouth you. read more

We ordered a turkey for Thanksgiving 2020 and the only option for pickup in the Philadelphia area was the day before Thanksgiving at Headhouse farmers market. We were a bit nervous but thought surely they won't give us a frozen turkey the day before Thanksgiving. Lo and behold my husband and I are dealing with a half frozen 16 pound turkey exactly 24 hours before our family planned to eat Thanksgiving dinner. It would be helpful for the staff to pull these turkeys out a day earlier than they had in preparation for the 2020 year. read more

I love love love this little local farm! Ever since I moved to this area, I always stop by here to pick up all sorts of quality food items. It's just a small farm store with soups, pies and a variety of poultry in the frozen section. They also have a refrigerated section where they have ready made salads and side dishes. The fruits and veggies they have are all fresh and farm grown. Everything they have here are made locally! The staff here are amazing! They are all so friendly. I always come across something unfamiliar when I visit this place. They are so accommodating that they would take their time answering my questions, and not make me feel stupid. My only complaint about this awesome place is their price. It is pretty pricey! Yes, I understand these products are high quality, but I feel like it may be a little overpriced. We stopped here to pick up quail eggs; the site had them advertised as $10/30, but we found $6.50/15 a good deal as they're usually $6/6 in Manhattan. There's a lot of premium poultry here, but a bit out of our price range (we were tempted to get the marinated poussins for $6.79, however). Also fresh jams, pot pies, sausages, cans of jersey fresh tomatoes (if you haven't tried these, you really must), truffled butter--anything a food snob or novice would want. We also picked up a pound of dried, locally foraged mushrooms (porcini, chanterelles, black trumpet) for $15. The woman handling the shop seemed to be a volunteer--incredibly sweet, but recommended that if there was anything we wanted to order specifically, to call on Monday. I had wanted to stop here for awhile, and wasn't disappointed. Once I get my dinners for 12 set up, this is where I'll stop for individually sized portions of poussin for each of the guests. read more

I found this place on Yelp when trying to look for local farms similar to Cherry Grove, bookmarked it, and never visited. On my first visit to the West Windsor Farmer's Market, I visited their stand, but decided against buying anything since it was a scorcher of a day, and I still had other errands to run. I convinced my father to accompany me to the actual farm, which is on a lovely plot of land. I didn't ask to tour around the farm, but I would love to visit the chickies and see the veggie and flower gardens on a nice day. The store itself is very humble and even a little blah-looking. I mustered up the willpower to poke around the faintly air-conditioned store (on a 90-something degree day), and left with a pheasant (frozen), two herb-marinated poussins (fresh), four quails (frozen), a cookie, soy and garlic-marinated duck breast (frozen) and a giant chicken pot pie (frozen). All for about $70. After getting home, I popped a poussin in the oven, and both my father and I agreed it was incredibly tender and tasted like it was just killed that morning. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor, which was fresh, but milder than I prefer. Next time I will buy the un-marinated chickies and do the flavoring myself. The cookie (chocolate with rock salt) was also delicious. I usually only like soft cookies, but this one is firmer, but packed with dense flavor and the texture is more crumbly than crunchy. Fantastic. They also serve home made ice cream and cold salads, and they have a kitchen to make food to-order. I saw a sandwich menu, but don't know if they do anything more extravagant (like pheasant or quail). This summer (2010), the kitchen is run by an intern from the CIA. The farm was opened in 2002 by two CIA grads, and I think most of their business comes from restaurants. If they want to increase revenue from non-restaurants, I would highly recommend they work on the layout and decor of the general store. I mean, the current state won't prevent me from visiting again, but I'm sure their sales would skyrocket if they were able to do something Terhune-ish (festivals, family-oriented fun, etc). It is pricey but you have to for quality and when the sign is out there are already cooked rotisserie chickens I am always sure to stop in! We are seriously blessed to live near this farm. We regularly get the wonderful fresh chickens from Griggstown. Never had anything but an excellent experience and the prices are more than reasonable for the superior product they offer. Wanted to follow up. I bought the chicken pot pie that they produce in their own kitchen this weekend. Was absolutely delicious. Baked the larger version (10" I think) and it was around 18 dollars. I would highly recommend having one of these in your freezer for days when you don't want to prepare anything but still want an exceptional meal. read more

Recently purchased 2 potpies coming from Griggstown Farm from a local grocery store,a beef and turkey.The meat in both was dry and chewy,so much so my husband did not finish his.For the price these are a true waste of money and would be so paying less! Griggstown Quail Farm has a stand at the Bernardsville Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. We had heard about the farm before as several restaurants actually identify the origin of their poultry on the menu, but never had the opportunity to purchase anything directly. Yesterday we purchased an apple pie that was absolutely fantastic. We were attending a neighborhood party and this pie was received as a wonderful addition the desert table. Picked up a mini blueberry pie from this farm at the Headhouse Market this weekend, and was very disappointed. I carefully read through the ingredients list on the box because it seemed like we got an apple pie with a few blueberries in it instead of the promised blueberry pie. The filling was mostly large, gooey chunks of soft, light colored stuff that looked like cooked apple. Turns out that it wasn't apples; that was simply the congealed corn starch that you use to make a pie, although in a proper fruit pie it just makes a gel holding together all of the fruit. In this pie, we mistook it for fruit because it was MOST of the filling. Also, the crust was quite overbaked -- it was dark brown, and burned black where blueberry filling had dripped onto it, presumably from a pie above it in the oven. The premade items looked very good but also just not something I was looking for that day. We did wind up getting some delicious tomatoes and local honey. Bought an oven ready 22lb white turkey to be served on Thanksgiving. The turkey was wonderful. Flavorful and moist. I over cooked the internal temperature to 180 degree. The breast was still moist. Great turkey and will purchase again as well as recommend to others. read more

He was annoyed that my son accidentally left the door open and proceded to scold us about how much the ac costs him rather than even saying hello or how can I help you. He ignored us completely and we didn't get service until a woman came out from the back to ring us up.
