Tomahawk is the more challenging course and newer course at the site, opened for play in 2002 and designed by Dan Maples (http://www.northmyrtlebeachgolf.com/course-architects/dan-maples.html). Arrowhead is mostly straight runs at the flag with some hazards and hills, but it's still fun and challenging for most players. This has been the staple of the course since they opened in 1965. I've played several courses in the area and this is as good as it gets in Central Maine.

They offer a beautiful 9-hole course with some forgiving wide fairways and some challenging uphill par 3s. They went under new ownership in 2020 and the owner has made some tremendous progress with improving the greens and clearing out some overgrown trees that were causing damage to the tall grass areas. I have family who plays here regularly and they offer a Turkey shoot, which is a fun scramble, just prior to closing up for the winter months. It's a great time had by all and for those who frequent the course and clubhouse, they are one big family of golfers. It consists of a 9 hole course (play twice to get 18 holes in) a pro shop, and a bar/restaurant called "Hoppers". I think it's a great place to come practice! It's not a long course, and I prefer to walk my bag. There are some fun challenges (water and marsh) and it makes for a good round. This is possibly the most affordable place to play a round in the area. Plenty of parking across the street. I did find it to be more relaxed here vs. other courses. And I actually loved it! No one is breathing down your neck to keep you on pace, but a group of 4 saw me behind them and waved me through. I recommended playing a round at Apple Valley! And if you have time, grabbing a drink at Hoppers and watching other players finish the ninth hole!

They jump holes. If you let a golfer through, they pick up your ball. We were behind a guy who kept hitting three balls off the tee. Just crazy.

I've been going to this course for a few years now - but this year has been rather horrid for a…read moremultitude of reasons. - pace of play has dramatically slowed. Too many groups on the course at a time, and a lot of these groups have little etiquette / are slow and unskilled. Pace of play recommendation is 4 hours, but prepare for 6. As a result, 3 times this season I have paid for 18 only to play 9 to 11 holes and give up due to the horrible pace of play and skill set ahead of me. - unskilled groups (t-shirt golfers) I think the dress code enforcement has been decreased / isn't applied anymore. Therefore, you end up getting a ton of "scrubs" / "T-shirt golfers" out there, slowing everything down. I blame both of these issues as a result of dramatically increasing the number of memberships being handed out. Further, since Prospect Hill in Auburn closed, I would assume the newbie golfer type decided to colonize Fairlawn :( I recommend Fox Ridge in Auburn - it is marginally more expensive but you do not find yourself in the same predicament (long waits, etc.). ---------------------------------------------- HOWEVER - I WOULD BE WRONG TO NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY DO RIGHT! Great staff - always polite and have personality. Not afraid to chat with you. I love feeling welcomed when I arrive. Good food! Generally great course conditions - the fairways are generally pretty good unless it's been a wet week or overly hot. In those cases, you may experience mud or yellowed, dry fairways. Of course, you can take relief under the rules of golf for "abnormal course conditions". These issues are at every course - simply because of where we live. Fairlawn is great, but I think the issues outlined above are preventing me from making this my "home" course. I could be persuaded otherwise, but I doubt that management can put the "cat back in the bag" so to speak.

Very clean and well maintained. This is not a beginner course but worked well for the novice I am. I would not recommend for young children as the terrain is rough with rocks and roots. Defiantly great workout, with holes that are uphill a down hills and around big angles. The course is well marked and easy to follow. There are lots of quirky add ons such as benches, a porch swing, stumps covered in drink caps, fire pit and fences made of long sticks. The scenery is as picturesque as the course. Definatly a fun course. Pay and play once or pay and play all day.

For a person newer to the game there are two primary throws a back hand and forehand (also called a flick). Basically this entails how the disc and your body are looking lined up looking at the pin. Devils grove is a forehand throwers dream . With many baskets and holes breaking to the right it would be wise to have that throw. Well labeled tee boxes and trash cans at every hole. Devils grove has a pro house with drinks and plenty of other disc to purchase there. The course is well maintained and you can tell the owner puts a lot of time and effort into it. There are some of very challenging holes but they also have a lot of holes that have Ace potential. Plenty of tournaments and a random doubles and bring your own partner doubled during the week. Highly recommend, get on out of the house and throw some plastic.

The Owl is the perfect warm-up course and a great option to get kids and new players engaged in the sport. The Hawk has a nice mix of woods and big, open fairways. The Falcon is my personal favorite. It's tight and technical and perfect for a quick, challenging game. The Eagle takes that to a whole other level with longer holes, bigger fairways, and a few open holes for big hyzers. The pro shop is fully stocked with most of the plastic you throw. They have a large selection of carts, bags, baskets, apparel, and a variety of gear you need to enjoy a day on the course. The greens fees are very reasonable. You get what you pay for and at Sabattus, you're definitely getting your money's worth. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, open, and welcoming. If you are new to the sport and want to give it a try, talk to them. They will help you out, make suggestions, and will start you off the right way with the right gear. Because the equipment is so inexpensive overall, and people often start with more disc than they can handle, it's common to buy discs you don't need and can't throw correctly when you start off. The crew here will help to prevent that. Based on my experience and the conversations I've witnessed, they will set you on the right path and give you an indicator on when to buy the next speed disc. Overall, this is one of my favorite courses. It's really one of the gems of the New England disc golf scene. If you're local, give it a try. If you're from out of state, make the trip.

The facility is for disc golf, but don't be fooled- they serve the BEST smoked brisket in Maine- and I can say that because I'm from Texas, and have made it a point to visit nearly every "bbq" place in Maine. Seriously, the places in Portland don't come close to this- not even in cooking process. All together we had three brisket sandwiches and fries, and an order of chicken tenders and fries- all of the food went down quickly, and everyone loved it. The owners are kind and pleasant people- the husband is a Navy veteran too! I absolutely will return here and I highly recommend you visit too!

"You are going to be climbing a F%#king Mountain". A pretty difficult course with lots of trees. You have to be pretty accurate to stay right on target. That being said you will get a work out in as it as some massive elevation for disc golf. I didn't find any of the the holes on the course to be super memorable but overall not a bad place just way far out of the way. The course could use a little TLC in mowing and maybe some large rocks or pathways for the areas that are pretty wet. Bring plenty of bug spray, sunscreen, hiking boots, and a six pack. An updated tetanus shot wouldn't be a bad idea either.
