I participated in a charity tournament here this weekend, which was also the first time I have played here in a few years. As before, I was impressed with the course layout and the condition of the greens, etc. even considering the recent dry weather. I find the course challenging for me but not so overwhelming that it ceases to be fun. My impression is that it provides enough challenges to the better golfers to keep them interested as well. A lot of attention and work has taken place this Spring. The bunkers have been revitalized, the fairways widened, and the grass regularly mowed. Kudos to the maintenance team. The course has elevation changes and the terrain challenges even the consistent ball strikers. Walking the front nine is easy while the back nine will give your legs a work out. A fun layout though. Sam, the new PGA golf pro, is helpful and friendly. The food and beverage service, provided by the Long Reach Kitchen and Catering company is excellent. Their staff is also friendly and helpful, the menu is varied, and their drink menu is fun. All and all, a great local golf course. The PGA may never play at the Bath Golf Club but it is a fun place. Paddy sat me down for an interview with great probing questions ("Why golf?" "Why now?"). He then took me out for the initial go-through with the approach of "I'm not going to teach anything right now: just show me what you think a golf swing is." From there he observed and, from there, gently introduced the concepts of proper swing mechanics, by way of completely relatable real life anecdotes. Just an awesome experience, so much so that I plunked down for the 6-for-5 lesson plan. At Golf Learning Center, there is ZERO pressure, ZERO judgement and ZERO intimidation, and I could not dream of a more perfect way to start my journey into this beautiful game.

It's always great coming back here no matter how long it's been. The staff is always friendly and Rachel's On the Green serves deliciously strong drinks and great food. The service is wonderful as well. The course is fun and in good condition. It's a good time to birdie the 10th hole and beat your dad! You can keep score on the carts and they are very high tech. I've been going to this course for a few years now - but this year has been rather horrid for a…read moremultitude of reasons. - pace of play has dramatically slowed. Too many groups on the course at a time, and a lot of these groups have little etiquette / are slow and unskilled. Pace of play recommendation is 4 hours, but prepare for 6. As a result, 3 times this season I have paid for 18 only to play 9 to 11 holes and give up due to the horrible pace of play and skill set ahead of me. - unskilled groups (t-shirt golfers) I think the dress code enforcement has been decreased / isn't applied anymore. Therefore, you end up getting a ton of "scrubs" / "T-shirt golfers" out there, slowing everything down. I blame both of these issues as a result of dramatically increasing the number of memberships being handed out. Further, since Prospect Hill in Auburn closed, I would assume the newbie golfer type decided to colonize Fairlawn :( I recommend Fox Ridge in Auburn - it is marginally more expensive but you do not find yourself in the same predicament (long waits, etc.). ---------------------------------------------- HOWEVER - I WOULD BE WRONG TO NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY DO RIGHT! Great staff - always polite and have personality. Not afraid to chat with you. I love feeling welcomed when I arrive. Good food! Generally great course conditions - the fairways are generally pretty good unless it's been a wet week or overly hot. In those cases, you may experience mud or yellowed, dry fairways. Of course, you can take relief under the rules of golf for "abnormal course conditions". These issues are at every course - simply because of where we live. Fairlawn is great, but I think the issues outlined above are preventing me from making this my "home" course. I could be persuaded otherwise, but I doubt that management can put the "cat back in the bag" so to speak.

At 6:45 there was still enough light to wrap up the last hole but unfortunately we had only had a chance to play 13 holes so far due to extremely slow play. That is on pace for a 6 1/2 hour round. It had been just over three hours at the turn and when we commented on the slow play we were told the back nine would pick up due to fewer groups playing all 18 that day. Didn't happen. The issue, as we could tell, were the two groups of 8 players, each with four carts, playing a few holes in front of us. We passed them as we drove off the course int the last of the remaining daylight. There were two rangers in carts at the clubhouse when we started but we never saw one on the course. Great course conditions. Great layout. Terrible customer experience left me feeling ripped off.

They offer a beautiful 9-hole course with some forgiving wide fairways and some challenging uphill par 3s. They went under new ownership in 2020 and the owner has made some tremendous progress with improving the greens and clearing out some overgrown trees that were causing damage to the tall grass areas. I have family who plays here regularly and they offer a Turkey shoot, which is a fun scramble, just prior to closing up for the winter months. It's a great time had by all and for those who frequent the course and clubhouse, they are one big family of golfers. Everyone is part of the family when you choose to swing your clubs at Summit Springs Golf Course.

Then they added the Sky Coaster about 25 years ago, an arcade, a ropes course, and more. The Sky Coaster is standing there, but is decommissioned permanently. The ropes course feels like it just showed up 4 years ago, but it's closed forever. No more water boats. The putt-putt has seen better days without an update. The go carts are tired and my 10 year old isn't allowed to drive one because she's 57" tall. Is anyone going to that bar/restaurant? After lots of expansions, it seems to be collapsing back to less than when it started. Needs some creative efforts to compete with everything else that can be found within 30 minutes.
