My partner and I couldn't have been happier with our experience at Springer's. This past spring, we walked in without an appointment (which I don't recommend!) hoping to check out wedding bands. Luckily someone was able to help us. That's how we met Claire, and she was absolutely amazing. We spent almost two hours with her, going through all the options, details, prices, and trying on a ton of rings. Claire was kind, patient, and never pushy, which really mattered to us. She made the whole process feel comfortable and personal. At the end, we told Claire we wanted to look around at other local jewelry stores, and she was so understanding. She simply said to let her know if we wanted to move forward with the rings we'd chosen. We checked out a few other shops, but none of them felt like Springer's. The rest felt way more transactional, which wasn't what we wanted for something so special. We went back, ordered our custom-made rings, and they arrived on time -- they were perfect. Even picking them up felt special; Claire welcomed us with a glass of champagne. Was greeted warmly when I went in to have the battery changed on my watch. They offered me coffee and I looked around while the watch repairman looked over my timepiece and changed the battery. A half hour later I noticed the time hadn't changed. If the movement or some other issue prevented the timepiece from working, wouldn't they have noticed? Why didn't they say something? I called and was routed through an answering system to their repair department and asked them to call me. Never got a call. Was rooked out of $20 for a battery and my watch doesn't work. I don't know much about watches, that's why we rely on experts, but they missed the boat on this one. Never returned my call. I don't trust them to do the necessary repairs. They've lost a customer here. read more

I have an autoimmune arthritis and haven't been able to wear my rings for a year and a half. I was so excited to find the Cliq Jewelry line that makes hinged rings and also retrofits existing rings. According to the Cliq Jewelry website their products are for people with arthritis, swollen fingers, weigh fluctuation, or even athletes. My understanding is that Cliq offers an inclusive product. Springers is a representative of the product line, so I was excited to have a chance to look at the product and see if it might be a good fit for me. My excitement left once the appointment at Springer's began. After an unwelcoming start, I shared that I had a medical condition that makes it impossible to wear my rings. The employee said that Cliq is for people with large joints that have arthritis. I was told that I need my rings enlarged not Cliq. So, I shared more of my personal information about finger swelling in hopes to see the product. I left the building in tears. As my husband told the employee he wanted my rings back, she told him that Cliq is going to be expensive. I never saw the product, I was fine with the price point, and was left wondering why I, noticeably suffering for a disabiling arthritis, was repeatedly denied a product designed for people with arthritis. In all my travels and purchases made domestically and internationally with disposable income I was always treated well. How sad that I was treated this way in my home state of Maine. I thought Mainers were better than that. I am thankful there are other jewelers in the Northeast that offer Cliq. Hopefully I will be able to have my rings retrofitted or purchase new ones soon at a Jeweler that appreciates the importance of inclusion. read more

Snobbish, elitist sales staff who treat you like less than dirt if you are not looking to spend $1,000. I went in to have the battery changed in my $200 watch, and no one could be bothered. I kept being told that someone would be with me, and I watched as that woman then went and kept waiting on people who came into the store after I did. I finally took the hint and went to Swiss Time in the Old Port. I knew Claude, the owner of Swiss Time, back when he opened his original shop up on Congress St. I was in and out of there is under 15 minutes, with a new battery in my watch. I will NEVER set foot in Springers again. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

Unfortunately they didn't have it in stock which is become a regular thing with certified Rolex dealers in general. Popular Rolex models are hard to get nowadays. (Not their fault) On a positive note though my experience with Chris was excellent. He was quite knowledgeable about not only Rolex watches but watches in general. My fiance recently went here to buy me my engagement ring, and he was about as excited to tell me about Jen who helped him at Springer's through the whole process as he was about the proposal. He spoke so highly about her and what a great, exciting experience that it was, that I couldn't wait to meet her. I went in the next morning to ask about getting my ring sized. When we walked in the door she reacted as if she had known us for years, literally like we were family. She was SO excited for the both of us, it melted my heart. She sat me down and explained everything about my "hearts on fire" diamond while also showing it to me under a microscope. I was so hesitant on getting my ring sized correctly for awhile because I did not want to part with it! I was so excited to show everyone that I was ENGAGED! I didn't even have to tell Jen that, because she knew- and said that she would have my ring ready by 5:00pm that same day. I was THRILLED that I didn't even have to go a full day. When I told her I was going into work an hour a half from the time I was in the store, she picked up the phone again and asked if my ring could be ready by the time I went into work. WHO DOES THAT!?!?! Sure enough, she called me EXACTLY when she said it would be ready .She went so above and beyond all expectations. Updating after I finally had my engagement ring resized at Springers. The staff was SO informative and helpful, helped me find the proper fit for the ring, AND were careful with the resize so as to not damage the inscription inside the band. Considering that the ring was not purchased at Springers, I was blown away by the professionalism and level of service. I was blown away again once I received my ring back (the SAME DAY!!!) with how well it fit and how beautifully shiny it was! This jeweler is the best in Portland. My family has been using them for years and recently, I received a GORGEOUS engagement ring from Springers... My diamond is stunning and honestly, looks a lot better than many I see. Frank, the man we always work with, is very nice and helpful. Part 1: The Process (5-stars) I got a gemstone for Christmas one year. I don't wear rings and I know nothing about jewelry... so it sat in my purse for ten months until I finally decided I needed to take action and do something with it. I looked around and Springer's Jewelers came highly recommended here on Yelp. So I called and asked them if they could set a gem in a ring. They assured me that it was something they did often, and that all I needed to do was come in with the gem and they could take care of me. So, I showed up today with my little midnight sapphire and was greeted by a younger gentleman. I told him honestly that I didn't wear jewelry on my arms or hands. Instead of trying to upsell me (which is my biggest pet peeve/fear when I walk into places like this), he invited me to come around the counter to look at his computer screen so we could find some ring options that were simple yet durable that would work best for me. Patiently we went through four or five pages until we found something that I liked (emotionally and financially) that also got his nod of approval as someone "in the know." A simple silver band with four prongs (that should be pretty sturdy granted I don't whack my hand directly on a hard surface, ring side down). The cost of the ring ($60 something) plus the work to put the gemstone in the ring ($90 something) supposedly will come, after taxes, to just around $164 - just about what I was willing to spend. I'm incredibly content so far with the quick, efficient, competent service I was given. I think I was in and out in under fifteen minutes, the space was clean and sparkly (literally) though the house music seemed to be a weird blend of alternative and adult contemporary (*sneer*), and I never felt like I was a) being sold something I didn't want or b) being judged for the simplicity of the item I did want/get OR for the fact that I came in there open and honest about my budget. I brought the rest of the jewelry into Springers & I think an older lady named Donna looked at them & gave me an buying price of $1800.00 for all the jewelry. To my surprise ! I found a 20 year old appraisal for one ring of $5500.00 ! There were also several other pieces I sold to them . I was under distress and in the process of moving but it really upsets me that anyone can lowball you like that after they knew my parents were loyal customers over the years & then took complete advantage of myself & I feel my parents as well ! The attention and warmth of a mom-and-pop run business with a fantastic selection of local and worldwide designer pieces. My fiancé and I experienced excellence service with both the purchase of my engagement ring and our wedding bands. Several months after wearing my engagement ring I developed an allergic reaction to the rose gold band. Springers was so accommodating and offered to order my ring in yellow gold and took back my rose gold ring at no extra fee. I've had no issues with the yellow gold band and am so happy everything worked out. I couldn't have asked for more sympathetic and helpful staff! We will certainly be using Springers for future jewelry purchases! read more

I had my wedding band sized here. They did a good job - they sized it over a missing diamond chip, so that it was a seamless mend. And the price was pretty good, or as good as other places were quoting ($60.) Plus, they were the only ones to offer to size it over the missing chip, where other places were going to charge $100 to replace the chip, and then other charges for cleaning it, where Springer did that for free. So now it looks and fits great. read more

I took a Diesel watch in to have the batteries replaced, the woman behind the counter could not even get the back off of the watch, it took a total of three people before someone figured out how to do it. Completely incompetent. Just the other day, I took a different watch in, a Skagen Titanium with a broken crystal. They wanted $100 to replace the crystal, just a normal mineral crystal, nothing special. i left, and contacted four other jewelers and watch makers. The price at all four was only $40. There is no way Springer's can justify a price $60 above the average, other than greed and a desire to rip off their customers. I will never set foot in their store again! read more

I had a lot of work done to an older ring (also originally from Springer's) that I'm using as my wedding band, and Chris worked with me to come up with a plan that would both fit our budget and yield the results I wanted. We used Springer's for our engagement ring and wedding bands, and I'll never let anyone else touch my rings! We had an antique diamond we wanted re-set and we wanted a unique, custom design. The jeweler next door told us that our design would look "terrible", and we were so insulted we almost gave up. We went to Springer's and they made us feel so welcomed and told us they would do whatever we asked for - and they did it for half the price the other jeweler quoted us. When we picked it up, the woman we worked with was so excited for us and was so kind and helpful. We of course went back for our wedding bands and had the exact same experience.
