Unfortunately there are only a couple of lanes available in the deep end as the rest of the deep end is saved for things like water aerobics. The weight room was pretty disappointing. It was missing quite a bit of equipment I would expect in a weight room. I ended up choosing a different gym for my weight lifting, as I was constantly having to change my planned workout due to a lack of equipment. The pool is good though.

Also, they indicate on a white board which lanes, tank and/or diving well are closed and times they reopen. However, none of these changes are communicated online or on their paper schedule. I've planned and shown up on two different days: Monday and Tuesday afternoon and haven't been able to use the facilities bc they changed the availability. What's the point of getting a pass when you don't know when it's available for use? The only upside is that the staff is nice and helpful. I'm not sure who makes the changes and communicates/doesn't communicate when pool users are allowed to use certain areas of the pool. They need to figure this out, or just know you'll waste your time!

The facilities are…read moregreat, I love how warm the kids pool is compared to the Long Bridge Aquatic center - me and toddler were shivering in the Long Bridge pool. The instructors for the APS swim classes really hit or miss compared to the county classes. We loved the first lady instructor, she always started classes on time and ended on time, knew what she wanted to do in the class, and had her songs with swimming movements ready. Last 2 sessions were with a gentleman instructor (who says he's been teaching swimming at APS for 15+ years) as the main instructor and recently he's been training this other lady and it's been so bad: 1. classes don't start on time half the time (one time started going around checking the kids in at the time class was supposed to start and that took 10 minutes, another time it's already time to start the class but instructor was standing around chatting for 5 minutes) and sometimes runs out of things to do class ended 5 min early 2. runs out of things to do in the class or don't know what songs to sing as we practice swimming movements and they start singing random songs or ask all the parents what song would you like to sing !!?? Could you do a little bit of prep beforehand or bring a cheatsheet into the pool so you know what to do next. Maybe it's the toddler class that's bad because kids are young... won't be doing the toddler class again here unless we get the first instructor back. Will wait for the class for older kids or go to county classes.

On paper, this pool…read morechecked off a lot of boxes that I was looking for; semi-walking distance, sports teams, community spot, activities, place to hold functions, snack bar, etc. So why the three stars??? it may even be too many. For starters, it is HEAVILY shaded which in turn creates a ripple effect of cold water, cold kids, cold adults, and lots of mosquitoes. When my son was really young we would go in the afternoon and there was hardly ever anyone there and come evening time forget about it with the water temp, brrrrrr, & the mosquito fest!!! We also held one of his bday parties here and rented the pavilion and we had some issues with the pavilion lights not working & the board member that was "helping" us was a jerk about it and rather rude to us. We paid to rent the pavilion with lights & all, no thank you for your attitude! Like most pools do, they have tennis courts, a playground, a Pavillion, Friday Food Trucks (non-pool members can enjoy because they are in the parking lot), float nights, swim/dive teams, and many other events. But like I said, pretty much every pool has these amenities; the other two neighborhood pools, SHRA & SHBR have all of this as does my current pool, AS&T (Annandale Swim & Tennis) but they all have SUN... yes, fun in the sun! This pool also requires all members, regardless of how you do your pool (sports teams & functions or not), to do a co-op of "working" or pay for your volunteer time required. My current pool does not unless you are on the sports teams. It is located on a beautiful piece of property but sadly that's where it ends.

Everything was clean and there was tons of seating. I ended up having a few more questions and a girl came and helped me. Margaret mentioned she was only subbing today but she was an absolute gem with info about the pool, the Atlantic staff and other pools in the area. She made such a great impression and my only reason for possibly not joining is that the trees are beautiful but block the sun quite a bit and I'm looking to join a pool for the exact purpose of being in the sun... lots of sun.

Pertinent positives: the facility is generally clean and well kept, and I like the bathrooms and ample changing spaces. Negatives: I feel like this place is kind of run like a summer camp. I don't really see any management around or doing anything. And they don't really abide by basic rules. I complained about babies not wearing swim diapers and I continue to see the same kid not wearing a swim diaper six times in a row. It's really basic they could just ask a parent. Does your kid have a swim diaper on? They could even ask every baby's parent this. The other issue I have is the lack of consistency with teachers. I don't think we saw the same teacher twice. And every time they ask me the same question: how old is your son? Maybe he should be moved up to the other class? And then six lessons in and I feel like we're still at square one so honestly, I don't feel like it's worth the amount you have to pay to get consistency and progress.
