I had a very disappointing experience with the Spring Flagship at The St. James Sports Complex. The customer service is honestly some of the worst I've dealt with at a facility like this. One of their representatives, Daisy, was especially rude and disrespectful when I tried to ask simple questions. Instead of helping, she seemed annoyed and dismissive the entire time. On top of that, their website is extremely unhelpful and rarely has up-to-date information. It makes it frustrating to try to find accurate details about schedules, amenities, or programs. The condition of the facility itself is also very disappointing for a place that promotes itself as a premium sports complex. The pool house is constantly messy and poorly maintained, and the gyms are in some of the worst condition I've seen at a facility like this. Equipment and areas often look neglected, which really makes you question how well the place is being managed. Overall, between the poor customer service, lack of reliable information on their website, and the condition of the facilities, I wouldn't recommend the Spring Flagship location. There are much better-run gyms and sports facilities in the area. read more

I can only review the indoor playground Super Awesome and Amazing. I brought my daughter and a friend who were six. The play area had plenty to do for this age range and was a lot of fun for them. I did see little ones and older kids playing too but sometimes the mix of all three isn't the greatest. My girls loved the slide climbing area and bounce houses. I think it would be great to have a drink machine or place to purchase water inside the area. There were teenagers or younger college kids working. Only one person was paying attention and putting in effort with kid interactions. The others were on their phone or not really even paying attention to what was happening. I saw kids attempting to talk to staff and being ignored. At check-in to enter no one really checked to see if we actually had waivers signed. It's also pretty pricy but we used a Groupon. Parking was difficult as the place was packed. read more

I am active duty military and the military moved me outside the state of VA. I contacted the St. James to cancel my membership and was told to email them a request. I sent an email on 14 April 2026 to cancel as of 1 May 2026 which included my official military change of station orders. I was charged $180.00 on 1 May and $180.00 on 1 Jun 2026. I called and sent another email on 5 Jun 2026. I spoke with a representative who confirmed receipt of my request and assured me my membership would be cancelled. On 1 Jul 2026, I was again charged $180.00. I sent an email on 1 Jul 2026, which as of the date of this review, has been ignored. It is a great facility, but the predatory charging for a membership that I physically cannot utilize does not speak highly of this organization and shows that it operates without integrity. read more

I really love the gym and enjoy the boxing and aqua aerobatics classes. I injured my back a while ago and purchasing the recovery package really supports my fitness goals while staying safe. I love the energy of the atmosphere. All of the children running around. The athletes training. The mom's in my aqua class. It's just one community of movement. Well stocked food market and bar is great. The only suggestion is updating the red light therapy to standing panels and updating the cryotherapy machines and maybe adding another. My favorite recovery room is the contrast room. The cold plunge is amazing. read more

Finally made my way here. I was on auntie duty and my nephews wanted to try something new. These dudes are tool cool for me now- into all things sports, games and trampoline parks so I decided to bring them to The St James. The kiddies were overwhelmed with all the activities and offerings of this place. We didn't know where to start. If the volleyball tournaments weren't going on they could've honestly provided us a basketball, directed us to a gym and my nephews would've been in heaven for a few. The gentleman working the front desk was welcoming, greeted us with a smile and instructed us on the activities that we were able to participate in. Unfortunately the water park closed at 6p and we had an hour left for the indoor park area so we opted for that, but the indoor park area is a little too kiddie for my nephews who will be 11 this year. We also had my cousins 2 year old and he had a ball. We definitely have to come back at an earlier time during the day and I will definitely be looking into the kids summer camps and sports camps that they offer for my nephews. Unfortunately the cafe was closed when we were heading out to grab food, but these are my stomping grounds so luckily I know of plenty good eats to satisfy our grumbling tummies with in 10 minutes from this hidden location. We left this place. It's very expensive and it's great gym and classes but it's sometimes overrun with teen in crocs and pyjamas at the machines. And I don't get it why the staff disintegrated so anything about it. They have many great amenities there but as for the gym itself, it wasn't for us. Showers were not great and not sure how often they get cleaned but I happen to see many shower stall with a lot of hair on the walls left by previous patrons which is also not a great behavior. Parking on weekends is a nightmare. So there were many positive sides to this gym but overall not worth the money. We switched to club studio and found more value there. read more

This is the place to be!! The partnership with Courted the salon makes it a level above the rest and the childcare creates the perfect solution. Here is a video of the sauna/cold plunge room. It's amazing how many events and sports competitions also happen at the same time. One downside is the parking and finding a spot during high frequency hours. The food is ok and good for a quick meal but not something to count as a dinner or lunch out. Overall a great place to belong. I would definitely encourage you to tour and see all it has to offer! read more

I kept seeing ads for this amazing place with a gym, water park, pool, ice skating rink, climbing wall, indoor soccer fields, and indoor kids play area...so I of course had to check it out! It really is the indoor exercise city that I imagined! They even have a restaurant/bar in the front where you can watch football games while you wait for kid to finish their sports. There is something for everyone. When I checked out the place, we spent hours there and still hadn't seen everything. They even have free childcare up to 3 hours a day so you can get your workout in without your kids around! My kids really loved the indoor water park area. I would compare it to the size of a large playground rather than a huge waterpark like at Busch Gardens, but it was still enough to keep my kids occupied for an hour. We were surprised that there's only a few lap lanes for swimming since the pool is so big. But it looks like it's often reserved by sports teams. The rock climbing wall was super cool, but unfortunately they don't provide shoes so you have to bring your own. My kids just climbed in their sneakers though and they had a great time. My kids' favorite place by far was the super amazing awesome area, which is a huge indoor play area/adventure area. They have a bounce house, multi-story maze where you can play with nerf guns, and a few climbing walls/ladders where the kids are safely clipped in but can still experience the thrill (or fear!) of almost falling. I did think about a membership but the price was pretty steep for a family of 4. I wish they offered day passes because I'd love to take my family once in awhile as a treat. read more

I've been a member for several years. While the price is steep, I generally enjoy the gym and try to come daily. The facilities are the biggest draw: excellent equipment, great saunas, and a beautiful pool. Unfortunately, many of the amenities are frequently unavailable to members. St. James clearly prioritizes renting courts and fields to tournaments, which makes consistent access difficult for those paying about $200 a month. The pool is a perfect example. It's lovely--when you can actually use it. Swimming after work is essentially impossible. The main pool is booked for swim team from 4:00-7:30 pm (when the pool closes). Members are given three lanes during this time, but they're often taken over by kids playing rather than lap swimming. But to be fair, there are some people swimming. I've shown up to find the swim team in the pool even on holidays, including Christmas Eve. It seems like they practice around the clock. I understand that there are multiple groups and it's not just SJST who uses the pool. At this point, it's hard not to wonder whether members are paying for a facility that primarily exists for outside teams. TL;DR: Beautiful, high-end facility with great equipment. The quality of the gym has decreased every year it's been open. The sports programs are expensive and the quality is below what you would get in other programs. The facility is overrun by the school kids who seem to just hang out all day and in the summer it's just summer it's overrun by camp kids. The equipment in the gym is not maintained and the music from the treadmill classes is so loud you can't hear yourself think. Don't even try to get a swim lane in the morning since they'll be rented out to some school or program. The st James doesn't prioritize their members since they'll make their money off of the tournaments that fill the parking lots on the weekend. read more

And now that they have changed member discounts for facilities - it really is a detriment to be a member, not an advantage Thisis a true bait and switch business. I signed up for the benefit of my non profit and myself. They promised me the world and so much access for the kids in my program. This is primarily why I joined. Once I signed the contract - EVERYTHING was a misunderstanding. Its been almost two years and I have not actually done or received anything I anticipated. Essentially I have spent a couple of thousand for nothing Then they promise these perks - personal training sessions and recovery services. But apparently, without being transparent, these expire within 60 days. No one said this and it is not written on any contract. Part of your membership is access to their amazing facilities. They are never available because they rent them out to outside parties all the time. I mean ALL the time. Rules also change with no notice or change in your agreement. When I started it was 20% off facilities. Then suddenly that did not include the basketball court. There is so much more to write, but I am tired. It is not worth even half of what they charge. Coming from D.C. where land is limited, The Saint James is worth the drive for the sheer size of it. An expensive gym facility, the price may be worth it for their three level gym, two ice skating rinks, a water park, fields, courts, a kid area, and cafe. Friends who are members invited us to come using their guest passes one Saturday afternoon to use the indoor water park. My seven-year-old loved it. They also have a ninja course, ropes areas, and more for kids. There's parking, but sometimes it can be hard to find a space on weekends. It's a popular place! read more

The staff is always on top of things and they're always cleaning up Abbas making sure the gym looks great! Worth the membership Only downside is the weekends, there's always a tournament going on which attracts 100s of kids but I've never had an issue parking in the members only area and the actual gym isn't full either so I don't have any complaints there read more

The parking situation at this facility is THE WORST. For the amount of money spent in the development of these top-of-the-line facilities, sufficient budget should have been allocated to accommodate the shear number of people coming to USE those facilities. Needs Better Fairness and Rule Enforcement This league could be great, but it's just not fair right now. The St. James NFL Flag Football League doesn't verify player ages or grades, and there are claims that 6th graders are playing in the 4th-5th grade division -- which should never happen. On top of that, some teams reportedly hold extra practices even though the rules limit teams to one hour before games. It gives certain teams an obvious advantage. It's disappointing because the kids who follow the rules deserve a level playing field. Until the league starts verifying ages and enforcing its own rules, it's hard to recommend. read more

AJ Hill Provided the Best Customer Service A few weeks ago I experienced an issue in the women's locker room. I waited a while before writing this post because I wanted to give management the opportunity to post the policy in the women's locker room, newsletter, and or signage. We both agreed on the following: It is necessary for members to understand the following: Outdoor shoes are not allowed in the sauna or steam room. A male child is not allowed in the women's locker room Female child is not allowed in a males locker room. Note: The gym has a family changing area Towels should not be left in the steam room or sauna after use. While changing my clothes a 7 year old boy with his mom stands next to me while I am naked. That is highly inappropriate and mom should know better. I made AJ (management) aware of my concern. Right away, he understood my frustrations. I appreciate his customer service and willingness to resolve the issue. Even though he did not create the problem, he was empathetic and his apology was sincere. Kudos to AJ Hill! read more

It's in a somewhat industrial area of Springfield, and parking is generally not an issue as people float in and out. They also have a really nice spa, and an athletic apparel store on site. And... are you ready for this? A full size soccer field inside the complex! Don't care about soccer and ice is your thing? Then head for the ice rink! read more

I went to The St James recently to watch a couple games during their MLK basketball tournament. The facilities are very well kept. There are two turf fields, two basketball courts, one ice hockey ring and multiple other facilities. They even have a dining area and a shoe store. This review is solely for the food. I got a Açaí bowl and chicken tenders with fries. The prices seemed a bit high to me but the portion sizes were good. The quality of the food was good as well. I was actually pretty surprised to be honest. Never I'd get a book by its cover. read more

Full disclosure: I probably could not afford a membership here, but the activities offered are open to all. Also, my kids are too young for any activities beyond the interactive waterpark, so this is just a review of the interactive water park. The water park is really awesome for young kids to middle school age. There are a few different waterslides, including a set of smaller ones that my 3 year old had a blast on. There are lots of dump buckets and sprayers; it's pretty hard to stay dry. In fact, I found the singular spot that seemed to be dry and snuck my iphone there so it'd stay dry and I didn't have to carry it around anymore. The waterpark is only open Saturday and Sunday 10am-6pm. Cost is $20 for two hours; however, no one was actually checking if people left at the two hour mark. This is a unique experience that will be a good resource in the winter; we will be back! read more

We had our daughter's 13th Birthday in their "Super, Awesome and Amazing" party area and it was none of the above adjectives. This place told us there would be plenty for them to do at their age and it's not crowded in the late afternoon so we booked 3 hours for 15 kids ages 12-13 from 4-7pm. They were back in the party room after 30minutes and bored. We had to come up with ideas for games to play like hide and seek and tag. The place was swarming with little kids and our kids shouldn't have been there with them. You can't bounce in the bouncy house next to a toddler. The facility is not conducive for that big of age range. This place should be a 4-10 year olds. I have emailed three times complaining and haven't heard back. It is SO NOT worth the money. It cheaper and better to go to a bouncy house place or Zava Zone. DO NOT spend your money here...trust me. read more

Traditionally, sports complex facilities are boring, but not at the St. James. The St. James is co-owned by two black men with facilities across the US. The Springfield location has indoor soccer, indoor basketball, a spa, an elite sportswear clothing store, a fitness gym and casual dining. Specifically, I stopped into Strivers (sportswear store) and they carried some of the most sought after sneakers - Jordan's, Nikes, Yeezys to name a few. Additionally, I ate in the eatery; they served sandwiches, fries, salads, smoothies, etc. The eatery also had indoor/outdoor seating, flat screen televisions and a bar. This place is the ultimate sports complex that I wish I experienced as a youngster. Even as an adult, I can't wait to go back. read more

It has full NHL size hockey rinks, volleyball courts, basketball courts, football fields, water parks, spa, rock climbing, Olympic pool, arcade, restaurants, a huge health club...It goes on and on and on. I had no idea what to expect coming here as I have never heard of this location before. I came here for a child's birthday party. Walking in I was surprised because it was nothing of what I expected. The St. James' set up is so much that everything you need can be done here, from working out, grabbing a bite to getting a massage afterwards. All of the sporting areas appeared to be full size to me. From the football, swimming and ice rink. I was most jazzed about the area where my nephew had his party. There was a climbing wall, a small trampoline area, and a maze where kids can shoot it out with nerf guns! The kids were provided with socks and wrist bands and served pizza and chicken tenders. Always a pleasant experience! We are not members for the gym but our kids engage in their sports camp and teams. The facility is amazing with multiple basketball courts, ice skating rinks, golf simulator, batting cage, swimming pool, weight training, gymnastics room, and their indoor football field turf. The staff is helpful and the coaches are very knowledgeable! They have a bar/restaurant convenient to sit and wait while your kids are in practice. I visited the facility for a birthday party on their SAA space and the water park. I was Impressed pulling into the parking lot. I was blown away walking through the facility. I want to love this gym, it has so many great machines and amenities. And this might be a great gym for people who don't care about this but this is the 3rd time I've been kicked out of the turf section for a group class. The gym is my therapy and relaxation space so when I get told to literally stop my HIIT workout to move it throws me off. Then the obnoxiously loud music played right next to me on the other side of the turf that's too loud for my noise cancellation--I usually just leave all together. Maybe they need a room or a roped off space where the group classes happen so I'm not in the way either way it's annoying and not worth the price. Literally other than that it's great but I find myself avoiding my regular workout to avoid their classes and I shouldn't have to compromise. read more

I joined in January with a friend. It's a very nice facility but it was difficult to even get them to answer a phone or e-mail to tour. Eventually I showed up and demanded a tour and Carolyn helped me. She was absolutely amazing and the sole reason I joined this location (I planned on only joining Reston for the founders' rate). What I like: I enjoy the little carry out restaurant. I really enjoy bootcamp and my monthly guest pass perks. I also went to the spa for a wax-- (separate review but I will probably not go back because they double dipped with wax sticks which is unsanitary.) The trainers seem very competent but very expensive. I was quoted a rate of $1300/month. For reference, I paid $75/session a month for a private trainer in a private workout space so at over $100/session I opted out. This gym is very expensive but it's less a gym than it is a complex for children and sports leagues with the gym being the after thought. If you go on the weekend you even have to wait for the teenagers to get done with the weights before you can use them. I get so many e-mails about programs-- for kids. There's even a flag football league-- for kids. What about the adults? Their fitness class offerings are sparse. I pay a hefty sum monthly but still also pay to go to Solidcore because the only times the trainers can do Pilates Reformer is at strange times midday where no working person can go. I am a previous member of VIDA and I was expecting something similar in terms of variety. Lots of room for improvement but this is absolutely not a gym but a sports complex with a training facility as an afterthought. I am looking forward to the Reston location's opening so that I can evaluate how to proceed when my contract has completed. read more

This place is huge. It has facilities for pretty much any sport plus workout facilities. It is kid team sportsplooza on the weekends. I enjoyed the golf simulator with my group. Parking can be challenging at this place. It's nice but I don't think I'll be a frequent user. read more

This review is strictly for birthday parties. We booked a birthday party at super awesome and amazing at the St. James recently and here is what $877 gets you. One hour on their indoor playground and climbing walls for 15 kids. One hour in a private room to host your guests. You cannot bring in outside food except for a cake or cupcakes, which is completely acceptable because that's what other companies do for parties in this area. However, the quality of food at the St. James is below the standards of your local 7-Eleven store. We ordered chicken nuggets, water bottles, hotdogs, and two pizzas for 15 people. The total cost for food was north of $200. There was plenty of food, but none of it was enjoyable, even for 8 year olds. The hotdogs are fine, but the buns that came with with them were rock hard and stale. The chicken nuggets were lower quality than the ones you'd find at any fast food restaurant. The pizza was probably the worst pizza I've ever come across in my life. Any pizza in the freezer section at the grocery store would've been better than what they served. I am not picky and even I could not finish a slice of it. I'm not expecting amazing food at a kids birthday party booked at a giant sports complex, but for $27 a pizza it should be at least edible. The teenage party host was fine and did his job. The booking process was fairly easy and seamless. The kids had fun. But I won't be back to the St. James, and I'll be sure to let any friends know that ordering food or any type of catering from them is going to be a giant disappointment and a waste of money. read more

We had a bad experience in super, awesome and amazing area and not coming back! One entitled lady wanted the entire couch in common area all for her coats. When we said that everyone shares seats in common area, she insulted me because I'm am an immigrant and called a manager on us. Manager offer to relocate us (away from the birthday party we attended!). We refused and left the place. When we brought up her insults - he did nothing. If you are an immigrant I'd person of color - you will be bullied here! It could be a good place, we considered to get a membership. Very sad and disappointing. read more

The facility is nice, but the people in charge of it straight up do NOT care. Case in point- I play in their adult hockey league and am done with it as the manager of the league, Tanner Jones, could not give less effort in being in charge of it. He makes a schedule that includes games on days when the rink isn't actually available (ie- a youth tournament is booked for that same time, or it's literally Christmas day, New Year's Day, etc), then has to scramble and cancel/re-schedule at the last minute. This happens multiple times a season. The refs he finds to officiate the games are often clueless and occasionally high as a kite while on the ice. The St James also has different leagues based on skill level but that's a farce. Guys who belong in the B level often play in the D league. We had a former ECHL player on a roster in the D league this season and he did absolutely nothing about it. Complaints always fall on deaf ears. His attitude is emblematic of the majority of the management as well. They seem to think because the facility is very nice, which it is, that they can basically let that speak for itself. read more

Came here for a basketball tournament with my younger cousins while their parents were out of town. I had no idea what type of facility we were going to so I was greatly surprised! The space is massive, with a basketball, hockey, football/soccer, and swim space. On top of that, it is a full service gym with a spa and food court, along with a children's play area and water park . There is literally something for everyone! The food court is a bit pricey, but expected in this area. Would definitely come back to experience the water park! read more

Is it a premium gym? Yes. Is it more than your standard corner gym? Yes. But does it provide more value than just some machines, weights, and occasional classes? Yes. Calling the St. James a gym is not even close, it is a compound that has amazing facilities, offerings, while still providing the basic and expected gym features (and even going above what you even expect on that front). If you do join, do try everything from swimming, to rock climbing, to golf, to the gym. Also try the classes, the instructors I have had so far have been excellent! read more
