We had a great time and so did our dog We had her service vest on her and there were no problems. The breakfast was good but there weren't many choices. We only stayed for two nights and the bed was comfortable. Plus there was plenty of room for the three of us The walk down to the restaurants and shops wasn't too bad for able bodied people but the walk back up was a bit of a climb, so be prepared. If you're going to do a lot of shopping, you might want to drive down to take your load back. OR if you're going to have a heavy meal the walk back might be a bit of a challenge... read more

It's a nice hotel but more it's more like a motel. Presents as clean, spa pool was nice to relaxing in after a long day (though the jets don't work well at all) and the breakfast was okay not a lot of options though. They charge a $100 damage fee at the beginning of your stay, just so you know. My main concern was that my hotel room door would apparently close but didn't latch all the time so I left one day (thinking it was closed and locked) and returned to my whole door wide open. I think what concerns me is that when I brought it up to the front desk attendant, she just brushed me off and didn't ask me if any valuable were taken (just rather didn't want to deal with me or my concern). Especially when you're training someone else for the front desk, I think you should be more hospitable from a genuine safety concern. What also concerns me is that you can see my door from the office front desk and no staff thought to check as to why it open all day or they don't have the staffing. I don't know but kinda of bummed with the lack luster customer service. read more

I've stayed here during covid and it was nice to return on this occasion. Got married on the 24th street beach in Cayucos. After dinner at Dorn's it was our time. I had made reservations for the big Spa-bath room about a month ago. Check in after 4 Madison checked us in, she is very friendly and informative. The hotel is very clean, our room very clean. Simply stated a modern room and bathroom, king bed, a balcony for two. Ceiling fan , heater, mini fridge, microwave, Kruig, flat screen, and a fake fireplace. The Mattress was good, a bit soft and with nice linens. Electrical outlets at a minimum (its an old build). The location is a compromise depending on what you're here to do or see and is certainly nosier as it is located on Main street. Tired as you may imagine we started the day in the Spa which is really just a tub, no current or bubbles but the hot water was quick and filled fast, some fun nonetheless. The drain knob didn't open the drain, well maybe a little. Breakfast served till ten but I let it get too late, they were packing it up and cleaning when I showed. In the bottom of the steam table pan I found some warmed Croissants stuffed with ham & cheese or Florentine style. Apples, Oranges, coffee and hot water...I grabbed a couple of croissants and a cup of coffee. We were packed up, check out at the front desk and no option for a TV check out, at least one I didn't see. Nice place, a bit shallow but it did the job. Great location. Looks cool. Paintings on the wall are cool. Super noisy. The noise from the furnace from the room above was hard to sleep through. No idea how to use ours. We moved the dial on the 1950s device everywhere and nothing happened. Ceiling wall was pretty thin, which isn't unusual, so we could hear every time that little bugger upstairs wheeled his Tonka truck anywhere or clomped his little heels into the floor. Hole in the wall in the bathroom was unfixed. The pillows were uncomfortably stuffed. A variety would be nice. That's why I try to bring my pillow from home. The sheets were probably washed in softener so they stick to you which sucks. You certainly know when the person next to you moves. The breakfast had heated breakfast sandwiches and that's it. Had to wait a minute for the sandwiches. Cereal, eggs, potatoes and fruit would be nice. Still, very walkable to downtown. We enjoy staying here. They have completely remodeled the rooms. They are very nice and clean. Very comfortable bed. It's always quite and nice here. I'd like if they would have put USB ports on the lamp or plug ins on the side table. The room has a microwave and refrigerator and coffee. They have wine in the lobby at 5. And in the morning we They have waffle makers, boiled eggs, yogurt and cereal. Nothing I can eat but it's nice and gets your day started. We really enjoy the hot tub. It's large and very relaxing. The also have a work out room. A few months ago we forgot out bathing suits in the bathroom called about it but never got them back. New 60.00 bathing suit. That was disappointing. Check in was horrendous! Had to listen to the hotel gentleman chat up each person in front of us for 20 minutes each. Too chatty!

I have stayed here several times in the past and each time it seems a little worse for wear. No elevator so you have to lug your suitcase upstairs. Breakfast was watery oatmeal and a stale sweet roll. Too many people trying to make waffles so didn't go there. The wall heater was on in the room and I could find no way to turn it down or off. There was a knob on the side but it was hard to get to and poorly labeled. Couldn't tell which way was off. There was only hot water. Absolutely no cold running water in the sink or tub/shower. Tried to shower but water was scalding hot and no way to cool it. Front desk staff seem indifferent. Told the clerk about the water but nothing was done and I never heard from maintenance. Such a huge safety issue for both kids and adults but it just wasn't addressed. Will not be returning. read more

The hotel is like ancient, there was no accommodation for disable people besides the ramp that goes into the establishment. The breakfast is very poor. The only thing that's hot included is coffee and some waffles. The food is very unsatisfactory for the amount we paid. Additionally if you don't have the front looking rooms, you have no balcony to sit on and just look at the street down below. The rooms do not come with AC, and all you have is a heater and a fan. Additionally, the hotel has washing machine and dryer that was made in the 1980s and they charge you three dollars per use. I would only stay at this hotel again as last resort if everything was booked. Another downside is you get an impartial view of the rock. read more

Stayed at the Masterpiece Hotel last month with my roommate. I booked two queen beds online when I made my reservation, when we checked-in the employee working there gave us the key to a single king bed. We had to go back to the reception desk to get it corrected, she didn't seem too pleased. They offer complimentary wine from 5-6pm which is a nice touch. Once we checked-in, we went down to see the indoor pool. We didn't go swimming but just dipped our feet in. The room was decent but a bit outdated. The light and blower in the bathroom turns on with a dial timer lol. The view from our balcony was someone's house and carport haha. The complimentary breakfast was prepackaged muffins, cheerios and some fruit. It wasn't that great, so we ended up going to a nearby coffee shop. read more

This place is absolutely incredible, I would recommend this hotel, over all others, when you visit Morro Bay, such a wonderful experience. Check in was incredibly easy, the girls at the front desk over the course of my 4 day stay were wonderful, and I could not believe everything you get in this hotel for the price you pay!! The manager checked me in early no problem, and was able to find me a room on the ground floor next to the dining area that was the Azul Suite, which was a sexy thing to see. The room was huge. Clean. I loved the light dimmers and the water temperature/soap dispensers in the shower. I was worried when I checked in if it would be loud in the mornings if people brought kids, and she said it was unusually loud that morning. She was right. The rest of the week I slept amazing, and loved having the room be spacious and clean, and right next to the dining area! Easy access in and out to breakfast in the morning. I even made friends with some of the other guests during morning chats! A sweet couple from New Hampshire staying as long as I was during the week. TV is perfect, they have all the channels, you can watch anything after you get home from your day of touring/ or in my case work. The only issue I was having was my keycard. First time the battery was dead in the door and the manager fixed it really quickly. Then sometimes the keys would de-magnatize if it was near my cell phone. But that happens sometimes. Hotel Tonight is how I found this place, and from Tuesday-Friday the rates I found were about 50 dollars a night! Unbelievably gorgeous hotel and what a deal!! I really loved this hotel ambiance! It's a smaller building overall, but my room was large and lovely! The bathroom was spacious and I enjoyed the espérate vanity area. The bathroom/shower area had a heater which was nice. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash was provided by dispensers in the shower. Water pressure was nice. Bed and bedding was comfortable. The room had table, chairs, and a loveseat. I wish we had the chance to use the gym, but it's a major reason why we opted to book this hotel. Location close to Morro Rock. read more

Stayed here over the weekend with my family for my family reunion and we had a concern over a pungent smell in one of the rooms we were staying in, we alerted the manager and he was being stubborn and said he didnt notice a smell or had anything wrong with the room, they had someone look into it and they said there was no issue, anyways we called the fire department to come check and there was a gas leak that was ongoing for awhile and the management hadnt done anything about it, they wanted to continue to book the room out instead of put the safety of their guests first. And now the manager is refusing service to my family from now on. So if you ever are staying in morro bay, I would recommend staying anywhere else, they don't care about you and are only worried about money. read more

I checked in for a two night stay to a deluxe suite with a king size bed and balcony. The room shared a wall with the lobby and offered no privacy. There was a bandaid on the floor when we checked in. The room was not clean, at least not to a high standard of cleanliness. The bed was a queen and not a king size mattress. I sleep on a Cal King at home and am familiar with the size, one of the employees I spoke with said their mattresses are all cal kings. I addressed my issue with the bed size and explained I had paid a premium for the king size bed. Three different staff members argued with me rather than ever verify my claim on three separate occasions. They refused to do anything to correct or confirm the issue. When I checked out the person at the front desk was impolite and unprofessional. I'm appalled at the customer service I received while I stayed there. I will never return or recommend this hotel to anyone I know. read more

This feedback is only about the lack of customer service and not about a hotel stay. We were schedule to stay overnight on the night of the lighted boat parade. 2 days before the parade, it got canceled due to weather. Since the weather was also going to make driving dangerous we decided that we would not be staying that night. The hotels cancellation policy says 72 hours, however since we were only alerted 48 hours in advance that the parade would not be taking place, we attempted to cancel our reservation and asked if we could do it without incurring any charges since what happened really wasn't anyone's fault and we weren't able to cancel any sooner. At first I was told I would be charged for the full night but after I complained the person said that they would only charge me half. Why are they charging me anything? He didn't seem to care that there was no way I could have canceled any earlier and this was something that wasn't anyone's fault. We had rescheduled already a week before with a very nice lady who said that others were doing the same because the event had been rescheduled due to weather. So when it got canceled surely we were not the only people canceling our reservations, why couldn't he be understanding and not charge me for something that I wouldn't be receiving? This kind of behavior just not encourage me to want to stay there. This was supposed to be a special trip that we had saved up for, I can't just run off and take vacations anytime I please and we had already rescheduled once, as I'm sure others were doing so why not be nice and give us a break? read more

Great unique old feel hotel right off the freeway. Took my family with me on my business trip and they enjoyed it. Had a few issues at first with the direct tv but maintenance came and fixed it. They do offer free breakfast in the morning but I assumed it would also have eggs, bacon, sausage, etc but they didn't. They have cereal, fruit, waffle maker, muffins, and hard boiled eggs. (Only reason why i didn't give them 5 starts. The one thing that make me forget about the breakfast was the hot yup/spa!!! This thing was huge! My girls enjoyed it. My friend and I decided to spend a weekend in Morro Bay and I found this hotel to be decently priced and not gross. The rooms were very clean, although I will say the pictures they feature on the website are suites lol, there was no fireplace or gigantic tube in our room lol. its ok though the rooms are not up to date but the bedding is. Free simple breakfast in the morning which was cool. They have a random basement hot tub, which smells of hot steamy chlorine. The gym is well, not really a gym, but at least they offer something. We had a nice stay for our first experience here. And it was made better by using my Groupon. $200 for three nights in a standard room with two very comfortable memory foam queen beds. The building and room itself were attractive and well kept. Our room was spacious, a small table and 2 chairs for dining/lap top, the carpet clean, and the interior freshly painted. There was free WiFi, and a good flat screen TV mounted on the wall, with lots of cable channels for free movies and entertainment. The spa (downstairs, you must use a small stairway to access it from the hotel lobby) was inviting, with large wall murals suggesting a steamy Roman spa. The free breakfast was adequate if you want to save money and splurge on something else. You could fill up on hard boiled eggs, make your own waffles, fresh fruit, juice and coffee, pre-fab'd Danishes and muffins, and dry cereal. The late afternoon wine and cheese social, while simple, helped to keep me from over ordering at dinnertime. The young staff at the counter were wonderful and made us feel welcome. Edward even offered to help us get our bags to our room up the stairs. That alone saved the day in my opinion. The set backs were not that significant to me, although they may not impress others as much. Just so you know, There is no elevator to the second level. And the stairs, both inside and out are not real comfortable, just a tad too steep for a good tread to riser ratio. Individuals with physical handicaps can use an ADA compliant ramp to get from the parking lot to the lobby, but should specify a first-level room only. Our 2nd floor room faced the nearby Hwy 1 (i.e. no view) and you could hear the noise. But traffic seems to taper off later in the evening. Based on their location, I suspect a majority of the rooms have no views. But who plans to stay in their room all day anyway? You are in some of the best beach and wine country in California, folks! We also found ourselves awakened around 7 a.m. because of a noisy trash truck working the alley below. That happened Monday morning. Darn, I was hoping to sleep in. The "refrigerator" held the equivalent of a shoe box's worth of food. It was set on the bathroom floor, and not at a convenient height. And the microwave occupied some of the limited counter space that was in the bathroom. Not the most pleasing set up. No chest of drawers to unload the clothing, just a large closet and two suitcase racks. There did not appear to be any air conditioning. There was a ceiling fan however. Being by the ocean, it is hardly ever needed. And in cold weather, you can heat your room from the wall heater. Would I stay there again? Weighing the good with the bad, probably yes, if they offered another Groupon Deal. read more

I booked Masterpiece Hotel going in blind. We were coming up from Los Angeles and I wanted to find something decent, yet not too expensive for Morro Bay. Masterpiece was decent. The hotel looked a bit older (80s) with paintings and art on the walls throughout the hotel (hence "Masterpiece"). Wifi was okay. Half the time it worked the best in the lobby and not too well in the room. Pool was just a big Jacuzzi (not a regular pool). The room was nice. Your average hotel room with the normal amenities but the AC in our room was a bit shotty. Free breakfast...it was okay as well. The service was good and the room was clean. I was able to find parking everything we took the car back. Masterpiece was close to the Morro Bay embarcadero and freeway. Not bad/just average. read more

If you are fan of the tv show "The Good Wife" but you've wondered why they call it that. Read this review to understand why that show should be about me! I'm almost completely serious peeps! I surprised my husband with a trip to Morro Bay driving all the way down from Glendale on Christmas Eve. The entire drive I was thinking, "please hotel, don't suck"! And. It. Didn't. The best thing was the fireplace in the King Suite. For some strange reason my husband was actually cold for once. He's never cold. I'm the icebox. He couldn't get enough. We would have fun outside the hotel, but end up talking about how we couldn't wait to get back to the room and turn on the fireplace. I kept thinking "yep, I did that". The hotel is close to plenty of restaurants and things to do. My intention was to visit at least one winery during our trip. We went to Kelsey Vineyard on Christmas morning and that was only a 30 minute drive to San Luis Obispo. We also had a wine tasting at Stax Wine Bar which is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel has a large indoor hot tub (that we didn't use), nightly wine and cheese and continental breakfast in the mornings. We took advantage of the wine and cheese (because it was that kind of party) but only grabbed an orange one morning and some hard boiled eggs on another. I noticed a waffle maker and some pastries so if you are into that type of thing you'll love it here. They have a library with a seating area on the second floor where you can relax and enjoy a borrowed book. Also be sure to tour the property and look at all of the artwork lining the walls. There were plenty of pieces that pleased my eyes, but I love art and culture so this was right up my alley. We loved the hotel, the staff was friendly and helpful. It's an old hotel and that's why I picked it. We frequent the Vegas strip and five star hotels when traveling, but I wanted something clean with some character. This was perfect for Christmas away from family. It felt like home. read more

My wife and I stayed here the week before Christmas. Cold on the Central Coast so a heated room is welcome. Unfortunately, the heater didn't work. I mentioned this to the front desk the next morning and asked for extra blankets. Returned to the hotel late afternoon and the heater wasn't fixed due to lack of maintenance staff and I was informed the hotel doesn't have any extra blankets. About 30 minutes later the manager showed up with extra blankets and a screwdriver. She took the thermostat apart, fiddled with it a bit and the heater came on. Great! Unfortunately, it was fixed at mid-80's so we just ended up turning it off again. All this said, the hotel is beautiful on the outside and nice on the inside. Great location for exploring the town. Breakfast is definitely "Continental". The evening wine is a welcome end to a busy day. Best of all, the room rate is quite reasonable. I would stay here again. read more

Well, it was my husband's first trip to Morro Bay and when we first arrived, after driving 41/2 hours, and him being tired from work already .. We waited 25 min for anyone to get to the front desk! Needless to say, we were frustrated and thought this is no way to start our weekend. Then to top it off the girl didn't say sorry. After the initial irritation the rest of our stay was perfect. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We slept well and had the back door open all night . That right there should tell you how quiet the hotel is. Very refreshing to not hear obnoxious neighbors, and get to relax. I will now make this my hotel of choice when we come up, and that will be a lot more often. One thing I will earn you about is there is no air-conditioning. Freaked me out at first, but it was only warm in our room for a short period. Came here to spend two nights, and left after one. For one, there is no AC- so that was a bummer. Secondly, it was just a lot more outdated and dirty than we expected. They didn't provide any shampoo- two body washes and a conditioner- and it was attached to the wall like a hand soap dispenser. Overall a disappointment. We stumbled across the Masterpiece 30minutes before we arrived on hoteltonight.com & got an incredible deal. WE ARE SO GLAD WE FOUND IT! We actually extended our little getaway because it's so great here and the host slipped a discounted rate flyer under our door for such a great rate! Morro bay is very quiet compared to the surrounding beaches and this hotel fits in perfectly. The mediterranean vibe here is just amazing. This was unfortunately was the worst hotel stay I have experienced. My boyfriend and I decided to book a fun little getaway from the heat and booked the nicest room available ,which we book hotels pretty frequently around SLO county. the first red flag was that it took us 25 min to even get checked in with no employee in sight. We stayed in room 300 and when we got in bed to sleep there was SOOO much sand and hairs (both pubic and head hair) and what looked to be a piece of a acrylic nail.It gets worst somehow. We thankfully got switched rooms but at 9am we were woken up when a house keeping lady just opened the door without even knocking. I had to yell that we were in the room undressed. We had also used the tub but now regret it with the lingering thought of how many people's germs we sat in. They told us we were getting a refund but after 8 days I was left with no refund and had to go through an hour call with Expedia to get my refund started. Not to mention I've been calling this hotel to check up on my refund and they have not answered. Please take your business elsewhere (a motel 6 would even be more of a luxury). read more
