The breakfast is usually well stocked but they were out of some of the food pending am order. The management has changed at this location and it shows. It snowed overnight and the parking lot was salted in the morning. Saw a few mentions of the coffee being to strong but I thought it was one of the better cups I've had at a hotel. Large buffet style breakfast with three warmer food options as well as cereals, yogurts, breads. They also have a pretty fun pancake machine that kept a few college students very entertained *Pro tip: mix the orange juice with the mango juice. This property is everything you'd expect a Holiday Inn Express to be and I'd say a little more. If you want fancy interiors and valet parking, there are plenty of options in the city. If you want clean, comfortable and affordable with a breakfast you'd pay $18 for at a diner - this is an excellent option.

However, heavy snowfall scared me off, so I decided to stay in Pittsburgh one more night, but hotels closer to the city center were fully booked. I had never heard of West Mifflin, but it didn't turn out to be that onerous a drive from downtown. I noticed several Steeler fans were willing to stay here and do the same drive. The location felt fairly remote, though the popular Kennywood theme park was nearby. I was able to secure only a King Suite for $284. That was more than I wanted to pay, but beggars can't be choosers. It was too cold to sleep in my rental SUV. It did cross my mind. The suite was spacious, just rather spartan (Photos 5-7). I wasn't really in need of two flatscreen TV's for my overnight stay. I did manage to try their underwhelming complimentary breakfast (Photo 8). There were no dining options on the premises, but a five-minute walk took me to a reasonably good Mexican restaurant, Primo's Tacos & Tequila (review: https://yelp.to/fs-RZBdJ9n). The front desk staff was polite. All in all, if you want a suite like mine, it felt overpriced for the less than stellar amenities. There was a valid reason this place was not fully booked. Earlier this month, my husband and I took a road trip from New Jersey to Chicago. We had an…read moreovernight stay at the Wingate by Wyndham in West Mifflin, which is outside of Pittsburgh. My husband booked the room for a 6/4 check-in. Unfortunately, we were stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for hours because of a closure at Allegheny Tunnel due to a vehicle fire inside the tunnel (150 people were evacuated from the tunnel). Suffice to say, we didn't get to Wingate until around 3am. My husband had called the hotel around 10pm when we were in full-stop traffic outside of the tunnel. He said we would be late but were on our way. When we got there at 3am, his message had not been communicated to the overnight clerk and there was some issue (He told me this later as I was in the car with our pet). Luckily, we were given a room to catch a few hours of sleep before heading back on the road. The room itself was fine. It's an older hotel, but it has everything you need for an overnight stay. Important for us, this Wingate allows cats. If you don't know, pet friendly does not necessarily mean cat-friendly, so you need to confirm that your feline can stay. The morning staff at the check-in desk, housekeeping, food service workers, and porters were friendly and very helpful.

The bed is extremely comfortable and the room is quite spacious, but now for the bad news, I've been killing ants on my table on my bed. I had one ant crawling across my iPad and another on my sheet. I called up and asked if there was any spray I could use they couldn't find any, but they did say, would you like to change rooms? My wife and I are both seniors and we didn't want to go through the hassle of packing everything up and moving everything out again.
