When you think of a retirement community you may be one of the people that thinks of a sad place where people are put to be forgotten. That's certainly not the case at all with Edenwald. It felt like a bustling community to me. More than once I thought "I wouldn't mind ending up at a place like this someday." Security wise there is a person manning the front desk at all hours of the day. Ask that person for the guest Wi-Fi password. There is a lobby where you can sit and wait for people where there is also a gift store. I didn't see it but apparently they have a fitness center and pool here. On the activity board they have a listing of all the activities that are taking place on site. They also offer multiple day trips to interesting sites around the area. If you don't want to drive to do errands they will take you places such as Trader Joe's. They have multiple restaurants on site. I got to sample two of them. One of them was a casual cafeteria. The other one was what we called "the pub", which serves alcohol. There is also a fancy pants restaurant across from the pub, but they enforce a dress code. I wasn't doing backflips over the food, but it was much better than I expected and I enjoyed my meals. I thought the nicest thing about the living quarters was that once you go inside and close your door it just feels like an apartment. You have a fully stocked kitchen, which is nice. Even though you have your privacy there are ways in the bathroom and bedroom to alert the staff that you need help. All the amenities in the world wouldn't matter if the people weren't treated right. I have to say I was constantly interacting with friendly people. Multiple times on the elevator the residents would be cracking me up. One man told me that he hoped I wasn't going to the 25th floor because that was his private penthouse. If you have an aging relative who wants their independence but could use the safety/security of assisted-living I can't think of a better place then Edenwald.

True, parking is tight but, I took care of that by giving up my car. In the case of necessary travel to doctors appointments there is free door to door service. In normal times we can go on bus trips as far as NYC to films, opera, concerts, etc for a nominal fee. I have never seen or smelled anything bad in the dining room. On the rare occasion when a resident had an accident it was promptly and expertly cleaned up. I have never smelled anything bad. As far as the lobby staff being snotty and condescending nothing could be further from the truth. On one day, when my wife and I moved, in everybody on the staff knew us by name. In fact, I think we are coddled too much sometimes. And tipping is not allowed. At first glance the prices to buy in and the monthly maintenance fees seem pricey, but considering the great number of services and amenities it is it is really pretty much of a bargain. And there is even a fund that guarantees that if you run out of money, thur no fault of your own, you will, not be kicked out. Management rates an A+ in its efforts to keep us health in this time of Covid19 A very important intangible point, that can only be experienced by living here, is the friendship of the other residents. We have an a incredible mix of academics and professionals who are not only very friendly people who are also a joy to talk to and live with. I have made more friends in my five years at RPP than I did in my 60 years in Lutherville. Moving to Roland Park Place was the best move I ever made. I am happy to stay here for the rest of my life

The staff bends over backwards to accommodate in every possible way! They are even not only making it possible to have our unit reconfigured, but they are actively working with the architectural and engineering staff to do the best they can to fulfill our requests. Roland Park Place's activities, programs and events are a dizzying array of intellectual, cultural, health-building, recreational and travel opportunities par excellence. Once an apartment is reserved, the future residents are welcome to take advantage of all activities, programs, and trips. Already, we feel like we are joining a very close-knit family. We recently attended a posh reception that RPP sponsored to introduce us to many other future residents. While many current residents have aged beautifully in place having, however, slowed down quite a bit, we met lots of future residents who are vibrant, colorful, bright, interesting very active folks, many of whom bonded very quickly, discovering that we had many, many things in common. I can NOT imagine another place in which I'd like to spend my remaining years!!! A-AND I can NOT wait to move in. If you have any interest at all in a vibrant, fully alive, stimulating, convivial and beautiful retirement community, I urge you to visit Roland Park Place. They are currently having many functions to which you could be invited to get an introduction to an amazing place to live.

All levels of care are equally nice - from Independent Living (where my parents started out), to Assisted Living (when my dad eventually needed more care before he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away), and to Memory Care (where my mom currently is). The staff is very personable, they personally know their residents, and they really do care and engage to make this a bright and enjoyable place for seniors to call home. I am very grateful for the care that Brightview provides my mom, and I highly recommend them!

Residences are nice- essentially decently sized full apartments- full kitchen, W/D in bathroom, balconies on some units, my dad has 1 bedroom and a den...very clean, nicely furnished, no pee or yucky smells associated with old folks homes!!, lots of activities like bingo, folk singers, yoga, movies (has a small theatre), etc. Part of the deal is breakfast - mediocre, store brand breads and bagels for toast, juices (including prune!), cold cereals , yogurts, nice fresh fruit salads though, hard boiled eggs, microave oatmeal packets, stale pastries...and dinner-- where we were last night! Pretty decent home cooking-style- you sit down with a menu, teenage in tux shirt takes order- you can pick soup or salad, one of three entrees, 2 of 4 sides, you get a roll, and you get a list of deserts. Sodas, juices, (prune again!) coffee/tea (bag Lipton) included...they have a litte longe you can eat in, too, and spend a few bucks for beer or wine...or store your own liquor in a locker and the staff will mix you a drink with free mixers! (sadly, my dad is not into that...) We had a pleasant meal- decent romaine salad with tomato slice and cucumber slices, fresh and crisp, really amazing good blue cheese dressing- big chunks of cheese!; sweet, somewhat tasty clover roll with real butter but a but dry from overstay in warmer; turkey was fresh, moist, flavorful, over a thick slice of industrial style white bread and a large slathering of canned but tasty gravy, real mashed tater, more gravy, really good colllards or steamed broccoli- broccoli was obviosly frozen, but buttery and well cooked; dessert was caramelized pears and ginger bread for me - pears were good, ginger bread was box mix, but caramel iceing was taaasty!...overall, a good home-style meal. We've lived "across the street " for over 30 years and have witnessed the vast facility upgrades and quality improvements in the medical staff care! They saved my husband's life twice so I am forever grateful and I care so much that other patients have quality experiences here. In Baltimore, we are truly so blessed and "lucky" with great doctors and hospitals and St. Joseph Medical Center is a prime example of that. The team of doctors is attentive, smart, empathetic and caring. The nurses are amazing and accommodating. The center is clean and filled with messages of hope and care, especially with their specialized spiritual team.

What's even more concerning is that this does not appear to be an isolated incident. Other family members and callers have reported being placed on hold for extended periods (15+ minutes) and then having their calls abruptly disconnected without explanation. If a patient is unavailable or there are communication restrictions, that should be clearly communicated. Repeatedly placing callers on hold and disconnecting calls creates unnecessary stress for families trying to check on their loved ones. For a facility that provides mental health care, a higher level of professionalism, communication, and empathy should be expected. unfortunately, my experience has not reflected that standard.

There were plenty of seats, including seats for those with thick thighs. I was updated of every step and then when he was in recovery, the nurse came and got me. I asked did they validate parking, but as a incentive they gave me a free parking pass because of the delay, which was top tier. I was advised where to go and pull up to pick up hubby once I got my car. Thankfully there was an attendant to help with getting out.
