So flaky, with vibrant ingredients. That red onion isn't overpowering and the tomatoes are juicy without making the croissant soggy. The sourdough that the Dagwood fits inside of is fresh and brings that yeasty, brewery essence. Lots of quality meats makes this one a challenge to finish on your first go round. Some of you Yelp readers may already be aware that Savannah airport has probably the worst airport food in America. The only good food in that airport is Leopold's Ice Cream, which is amazing, but not usually dinner. Anyway, my point is, if you want a decent dinner and you're heading to the airport, you'd better stop somewhere and bring something through security. And that is how we found ourselves at Sprout Momma on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the Groovin' Reuben and the falafel. My husband said the reuben was great, a good balance of cheese and sauerkraut with plenty of meat. It came with handmade potato chips that were excellent (I managed to snag one of those before they were all gone). I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered the appetizer portion of the falafel. I got: Three delicious falafel A moderately sized container of hummus (mmm!) A bigger container of pickled vegetables A pile of arugula A little cute container of salad dressing I really got a lot of food! And it was all great! I thought it was a great value, but more to the point, the falafel were a little spicy, the hummus was a great counterpoint to the falafel, the pickled vegetables cut through the spicy/creamy thing happening with falafel and hummus, and salad is always a good thing. I'm looking forward to going here again. In terms of the service, I found it brisk and efficient, which in the Lowcountry may come across as unfriendly, but felt like great service to this New Yorker. The food came out quickly too. I wish I had discovered Sprout Momma Breads sooner! I ended up here after a disappointing experience at Carolina Coffee and Crumbs, based on a local's recommendation, and I'm so glad I listened. They have a great selection of items, and everything looked amazing. The morning I was leaving town, my girlfriend and I stopped by for breakfast. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, and the pastries and breads on display were absolutely mouthwatering. I ordered the French toast, which was fantastic, and my girlfriend had the croissant with egg and sausage. The croissant was buttery and flaky, the sausage was high-quality, and the sandwich included a perfectly fried egg and what I believe was white American cheese. Everything was delicious, and the coffee was excellent--easily one of the highlights of the meal. Before leaving, I grabbed a loaf of sourdough bread to take home, and it was just as impressive. I made an open-faced sandwich with it, and the flavor and texture were spot on. You can tell they put so much care and love into their food. Everything about this place is great. Vacationing in HHI for a couple of weeks, we found this place on the second day. We're so glad we did!! Started with breakfast most mornings here. The avocado toast is amazing and the pastry selection sooooo good. We ate outside every time we visited but the inside of the restaurant is beautiful, in case the weather isn't great. The staff here are all very nice and accommodating. I would recommend this high on the list for anyone coming to HHI. Also, don't miss the AWESOME pizzas. I wanted a loaf of good homemade bread. I had frequented Sprout Momma's before at its former location and although the bread was expensive, it was good! I found the Arrow Road location and was surprised to see SM's had morphed into a full bar and restaurant. Seeing " bakery" on the front door I was relieved to see they were still baking bread. I ordered two loaves from the person behind the counter after asking her what types of bread she had...some were unmarked and she didn't know what they were. After deciding on a loaf of rye and one of sour dough, I noticed they were on the smallish size. There were no prices posted. I asked if she could slice the bread and she said " yes". I requested it not be sliced too thinly and she said "we only slice it one thickness". I was in no mood to quibble. It took a few minutes for the guy from the kitchen to bring the sliced bread loaves out. The lady wrapped the loaves up, rang it up, and said "$22. And some cents". I about gagged at the expense! Since they had sliced and wrapped the loaves I decided to just go on my way after paying the exorbitant price. When I got home I attempted to make a sandwich with some of the sour dough. It fell apart when I was removing it from the bag...plus the holes in each slice were the size of quarters. My wife looked at it and said "I hope you didn't pay much for that bread!". What a disappointment! Bottom line Sprout Momma's ripped me off big time. I realized Sprout Momma's is just another Hilton Head tourist trap and no longer a bakery! I would never recommend Sprout Momma's for bread, food, or drinks if their bread is any representation of their products! Those that live on the island beware! I wanted to love Sprout Momma's because the building has a wonderful spirit thanks to Signe but today, they fell short of all expectations. I ordered the tomato soup and consumed two bites. Specifically went to the counter to let the owner know the soup was extremely salty by any standard. It is tough to mess up tomato soup but this soup was a disaster. One of the severs said thanks for letting us know and that's it. Over $40 for a non protein salad, a grilled cheese (just cheese) and cup of tomato soup. The Greek Shrimp Pita, $14, with lemon garlic, shrimp, tomato, feta, cucumber, roasted peppers, kalamata olives with House vinaigrette was equally packed with flavor, fresh and delicious! This place is only open Tuesday through Saturday...unfortunately, I found it on Yelp on Saturday afternoon, so waited until Tuesday lunch to stop by!!! It was a highly anticipated stop, so the stakes were high!!! Off the beaten path, but we'll worth the visit, we ordered our sandwiches. Bf got the pastrami sandwich and I opted for Momma's club!!! AMAZING!!! Both were spectacular, starting with the fresh breads...then the meats, and OMG. Now, obviously not inexpensive, as you can see from the menu...but well worth every penny! Quite possibly the greatest bakery I've ever been to. My girlfriend and I are visiting from the LA area, and we've been to plenty of good bakeries. However, none of them have the down to earth, simple goodness that girds the deliciousness that graces every bite Sprout Momma's food provides. We tried the: - Reuben: 12/10. The meat is so incredibly juicy and tender for a sliced deli meat. The sandwich is sufficiently wet along with the sauerkraut and dressing without being saturated. The bread was perfectly toasty, crusted with parmesan cheese without scraping the roof of my mouth. - Hot Roast Beef: 12/10. GREAT buns. And that meat! So juicy that you don't need the au jus, but just because you don't need to doesn't mean that you shouldn't. Go crazy. Enjoy your messy, mouth-watering sandwich. - Gazpacho: 11/10. Who knew that a cold, vegetable-based soup could feel so wholesome? Surprise! This stuff is the bomb.com. - Snickerdoodle cookie: 15/10. This stuff has resulted in an addiction. Crisp but chewy. Sweet but not overly. - Sourdough bread: 11/10. Think of the most picture-perfect bread from the movies. We are in HHI for a month so trying out lots of restaurants. Was happy when my husband suggested this place because the menu had lots of good things from which to choose. Was pleasantly surprised when we walked in...nice little bar area to sit at. I ordered a healthy "tree hugger" bowl and my husband ordered the club as it was recommended by someone sitting next to us. I will admit my husband didn't want to stay when he saw the high prices. Much higher than other cafes in the area. But we gave it a try anyway. My bowl was very good and I ate every bite but I will admit that $19 was a lot for rice, black beans, 3 small spears of asparagus, a few mushrooms and some roasted tomatoes. It also included some homemade pita and hummus which was also very good. My husband was not impressed with the club...he said the deli meat wasn't very good and the bread was okay. The fries were very good however! Again a very high price ...$19. Service was very good and very friendly. I can honestly say I would go back if they lowered their prices. Been here 3x since I moved here in January. One loaf of bread is over $11....so it's an expensive treat. One time I got the Olive bread and it was kinda stale and unpleasant. But I came back. The second and third time I decided not to tip since I only got a loaf of bread-no sandwich, salad, drink or even a bag. I was given the loaf after they saw the no tip. Both times....rock hard stale. What an awesome find! I did a search for organic restaurants and found this fabulous little place on Beach City Road! Right now it's mostly takeout with a few outdoor tables. My husband and I got their rare roast beef sandwich. Omg!! Sooo delicious! Grass fed beef. Amazing horseradish sauce, bib lettuce and tomatoes with a pickle and onions. It was really one of the best sandwiches we ever had. We also got their great Caesar salad with shrimp to share - Made with the lovely bibb lettuce and lots of parmesan cheese. And the croissants were to die for! And I'm not one to eat much bread but I will indulge if it's organic and non-GMO, unbromated. This place is truly a hidden gem. If you live on the island y'all need to get over here. If you don't live on the island you still need to get over here!! We left on Tuesday to go back to Raleigh but we stopped there to load up on another sandwich and a couple loaves of that freshly baked sprouted wheat bread!! This USED to be one of my favorites despite the super high prices, but have had several poor experiences. Once I ordered the $18 Chopped Julius and requested dressing on the side as I can only use a slight amount of oil. The salad came with pita points that were stale and dressing on the salad instead of on the side. When I said I couldn't eat it with the dressing on it and could they remake it, the salad they gave me was 90% lettuce with no olives or tomatoes and just a few chick peas. My friend also got the same salad with the same stale pitas. The service was terrible. I ordered fries once but they were out- they said they would bring them once they were made but never did.
