I grew up in Richland and the Spudnut shop has always been a fast pace maw & pa business. I still believe their product is a notch above other donuts but not to the extent the workers can be rude to their customers and expect them to return. I want to see the business succeed but they are going to have to make some changes in staff or ownership. I would like to encourage the owner to sell sell sell before the Spudnut's name is irreparably tarnished. Or... Go to school and learn some managerial skills. read more

I grew up on spudnuts - matter of fact - I didn't even know there was such a thing as a doughnut until we moved out of the Tri-Cities. All doughnuts I eat are compared to spudnuts and nothing can compare. They're light and airy and very tasty. However, because they are so light and airy you can probably eat more than you thought possible because it takes more to get a sense that you've eaten anything. Both a good and a bad thig. read more

These folks were reviewed on a TV show quite a few years back, so it took me a while to get there but i would say i was less than impressed. For all the hype about there famous spudnut the selection was less than impressive. I wanted a simple old fashioned. They dont have those. There "selection" was a bunch of several tall rolling carts with trays of donuts covered with a myriad of glazes and sprinkles. I was hard pressed to find a maple bar. I was not at all impressed with the flavor of the maple or the texture of the donut. Walking in I felt like i had walked into the cramped back kitchen of a restaurant rather than a place i would want to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and an old fashioned. Service was less than memorable. Space was cluttered, very small and only a few tables. I suggest skipping this place. Instead I highly recommend going to Poplar Donuts on Union in Kennewick. Delicious donuts, open at 4am, great prices, clean, tables to sit down and enjoy, all donuts are protected behind a glass case. read more

(Jeremy) So i went there this morning based on the raves it got from this sight. Every car in the parking lot seemed to be heading in there. It's true, this place has been around for around 50 years and looks like they haven't updated yet. Traditional booth seating and quite a bit of seating for the size of the place. It was packed as i expected. Lots of retired folk who probably grew up with this place. It was nice to see a younger family sitting outside with their kids. Obviously this place appeals to different generations as well. To be honest, this place is not very "Newbie friendly". The donuts...errr spudnuts were all behind the counter against the far wall. You kind of have to look over the boxes of pre-ordered spudnuts to see them. A traditional glass case would have been pretty nice. There are no prices listed either. The line was a few people deep when i walked in but it goes really fast. It was recommended that i try the cinnamon roll, so i asked for one...they didn't have any. Not that i could tell, because to be honest, i didn't really know what they did have (see above). So i asked for 2 with the sprinkles on them since they were what was sitting across the way from me and i like sprinkles. And people were lining up behind me. I felt pretty rushed and didn't want the regulars to get mad at the "Newb". I took them to go since i had to get back home and beat some kids. Errr...get some kids ready for school. The spudnuts were good. Definitely better than what you would get at any of the grocery stores. They were even crunchy which is a plus in my book. And not quite as dense as most cake donuts. I don't think i would drive across town for them though. But if they were on my way to work, i might stop by. This place has to be a cash cow. Living in the Tri Cities for 11 years has given me a lot of experience with Spudnuts. These are the donuts served in the office at work and school functions. This is the place friends and coworkers invite you to "catch up" at. This is the hot spot that received multiple mentions on the Food and Travel channel. With such a well reception, you'd expect a glorified review. Sorry to burst your bubble, but every time I bite into these donuts I feel like something must be wrong with me. These donuts are nothing to rave about. Dry at worst, mediocre at best. I've tried these donuts freshly made at 5:30 at the morning with the same results. The fact these donuts are made with potato flour doesn't leave me impressed. If the unique history were erased, this place would be nothing special. read more

The tricities lacks a big franchised donut shop like a Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts. They don't have the charm of this place anyway. This place is popular, and with good reason. EDIT: 03/24/12 Having been several times since I first wrote this I have to make some changes and lower this to 3 stars. Spudnuts is a nice hole in the wall doughnut shop with a small selection. That small selection hurts them a bit, and unless the doughnuts are hot, they're really just OK, nothing special. And the customer service in this place is just downright awful 75% of the time. The younger girls that work in there are very nice and helpful and smile. The older ladies though, wow. The older ladies get visibly upset if you take more than 5 seconds making your choices. I've witnessed this on multiple occasions to several people in front of me and to myself on several different trips to Spudnuts. Once we were choosing our box and I made a few selections, then I asked my kids to pick what they wanted and the lady gave a loud sigh, twisted her mouth, and started to help someone else because she didn't want to wait for us I guess. It's too easy to go elsewhere for a large selection of good doughnuts rather than make a special trip to a shop that has like 5 decent doughnuts to choose from. read more

I am confused by the positive results added for this restaurant. I has the chili burger which was "ok" but the donut was horrible! Stale and old. We had 3 at our table and they were all bad. My friends food was burnt too. Then they kept asking us if we had paid ( my friend as she left and them me when I came out of the restroom) I would NOT eat her again. Spudnut Shop has been my favorite place for doughnuts as well as atmosphere since I was a kid. I stop in every time I'm close by to pick up the simple glazed spudnut and some coffee. many times, they've run out by the time I stop in, so now, I'll call early and ask them to hold a couple for me. I've also tried their Maple bars, cinnamon rolls, and the cake doughnuts. I'm not a fan of cake doughnuts, but these were so good, they were almost as good as the spudnut! their cake doughnuts are light, not at all heavy and cakey. I've tried doughnuts everywhere I've traveled, but none compare to the spudnut. they are just the right amount of sweet, even the cinnamon rolls... not cloying like Cinnabons and Krispy Kreme that so many people rave about. The shop is small, and fills up rapidly, so go early if you want a seat. they also have a few outdoor tables for nice weather. the employees are very friendly and helpful and work incredibly hard. it's the perfect little community gathering spot! read more
