It was definitely a childhood favorite growing up in the tri-cities. However, I have to say that the donuts are definitely not "out of this world" quality. Is it me or is this place not friendly to people of the Hispanic origin? I have been in here a handful of times and the doughnuts are amazing, but I have never felt so out of place, or felt unwanted. The service has been horrible every time I stop in. It reminds me of "the soup Nazi" episode of seinfield. The really good food is worth putting up with the degrading service. Every experience I encountered there I never get so much as a friendly greeting, a thank you, I have stood in line with the workers (at times more than 3 behind the counter) wouldn't greet me or even acknowledge I was there. Then after a moments time I would basically be asked what I wanted, no friendly greeting, welcoming the valued customer. Then being being rushed as I'm deciding what I want, and this experience isn't just one bad one, this exact scenereo happens every time I visit the store. I think the food is amazing, but I'm ready to avoid this place completely, after maybe one more then I'll call it quits. All in all the older woman along with the younger girls working there are pretty degrading and don't make the place feel like I am unwanted there. read more

It sickens and saddens me to write such a horrible review for a place. The old man would be turning in his grave to see how the twits here have run his beloved shop into the ground!!!!!We came in, placed our order, and never once had a waitress come back other than to throw our food onto the table. Horrible service ( and not just once but every time we go in) Today was the last straw though. How on Earth does a tiny ma and pa place turn into a 40 dollar lunch for two kids and parents?!?!!? I grew up going here for spuddies and lunch with my grandparents, and always wanted that place to be there for my kids. But the shop now is a night and day nightmare from what it once was. Hoping upon hope it was different we tried again today. Hence the 40 dollar lunch costs. That's just grilled cheeses, an egg salad,and one burger. When I told yelper Brian O that my hubby and I were going to the Tri-Cities, he gave me some fabulous tips: eat Mexican food & have Sputnuts. Man, I owe him one. Never have I liked cake doughnuts so much until I tried Spuddies. Steve M sums up the texture. It is sublime, I tells ya. I took a dozen back to Seattle, carefully, of course. At the Spudnut shop they put these gems on a half of a wide sheet of parchment paper that has been laid on top of a box. My box used to house low-sodium chicken noodle soup cans. Thankfully, a dozen of Spudnuts (raised) and Spuddies (cake) were in place of soup! Once your dozen placed just so in the box, then they drape the other half of the parchment on top and staple it to the box. Voila. That effectively kept me out of the Spud-s until I made it back to Seattle. Now I'm hooked on potato flour doughnuts. Why, oh why can't Seattle have a Spudnut shop?! read more

There must be something wrong with me. I did not much care for their doughnuts although, according the "historians" of the Tri-Cities, I should have. They are staple of the community, people automatically think of them for the Saturday morning snack...but really, I don't see what the big deal is. If they made a much better doughnut, this would be a much better place to go. If you're not in the mood for a spuddie (cake donut) or a spudnut (raised donut), then try a healthy spuffin (muffin). A personal favorite is the blueberry bran muffin. Unlike other bran muffins, these are moist throughout and chock full of blueberries. The Spudnut shop also serves breakfast sandwiches and a decent cup of coffee for those heading in for a morning treat. Potato donuts!?!? So weird, yet OMG, sooo yummm. We finally got here on a day they were open and they have some yummy donuts. This place was super crowded with caucasian folk- most of which looked like ex-military and republican conservatives. That was just an observation. I negated a star because they have a picture of Sarah Palin with one of the staff members proudly taped up on the wall. Apparently, one of Sarah Palins aunt's lives in the area so... They have lattes but I opted to get a drip which was nothing to write home about. Probably should have gotten a hot chocolate. We shared a sprinkle, maple bar with peanuts and a cinnamon roll. Great donut shop! I stopped in around 9:30am on Saturday morning and the place was packed! Not much room for social distancing but most people wore masks. The staff are friendly and efficient, helping the line to move along quickly. The donuts are generously piled on trays around the kitchen. I didn't get a chance to look to see what else they offered, sticking to the basics, coffee and donuts. The black coffee had a nice flavor and was the perfect foil to the sweet, delicious donuts. I tried the following, ranked in order of my personal preference: maple bar, glazed chocolate cake, cake with peanuts and chocolate frosting, and the cinnamon roll. All of the donuts were super fresh, crispy on the edges but not greasy, and very flavorful. The maple bar especially blew me away! No fake maple flavoring here. People either come here for the novelty or because they're about the only donut shop in the area. The novelty is that it's potato donuts. But it's a misnomer. Part of the ingredients is flour. What I don't like about this place is that they don't have a wide selection. Also, they tend to sell out most of their donuts by early morning. So if you get there late, they won't have any left. They also have a restaurant there. I ordered the clam chowder once. It tasted like something I can get from a can. The chowder was so thick, I can put a spoon in it and it'll stand up. I wouldn't eat there again. Bottom line, the donuts are good but no better than any other donut shop I've been to. read more

Came here last week and got a dozen donuts at 8am (they open at 4 apparently). I had to see what all the hype was about. It was extremely crowded and there is only a one-door-exit, which happens to be right next to where you have to stand in line to buy donuts. While standing in line, I was constantly in the way of someone trying to exit...annoying. The flavor of the donuts...well..is O.K. Nothing spectacular. To be honest, I think Safeway's donuts are better. They sure have a better variety, not to mention you can get a dozen (which is 14 at Safeway) for 5.99 instead of 12 for 6.50 at Spudnuts. When I first heard of Spudnuts I was thinking that it did not sound too appealing but the more I thought about it, the more intrigued I became. So, I just happened to be nearby Richland so I had to check it out and I am glad that I did. I did not get too fancy with my selections but I can say that the Glazed and the old fashioned were excellent. The spud flour adds a richness that I could not have imagined without trying it. The coffee was not memorable so grab your spudnuts here and grab your coffee elsewhere. If you just happen to be in the area, drop in for a treat. You'll be glad that you did. read more

Believe it or not, I grew up in the Tri-Cities without having a single spudnut doughnut. Why? I'm not sure, I guess I was pretty sheltered. Wednesday is Spud-nut day. I can say no to a Spud-nut. They're okay, but I grew up in Massachusets where it was "time to make the donuts" every morning. My favorite donuts are the ones that my grandma makes, followed by Dunkin Donuts, Spud-nuts, and Krispy Kremes (in that order, with the first two way above the bottom two). I've only been in the store once (since I usually pirate a Wednesday spud-nut from a colleague's office), but I found the service to be rude and the coffee to be absolutely horrible (like undrinkably bad). I have heard the buzz Spudnut so I went last week because my monthly donut craving was arising. The gals were nice enough, straight and to the point...order your donuts and move along. They seem to be quickly thrown together and thrown on the trays in piles to serve the masses. I noticed my bag weighed a lot more than usual donuts (surely due to the potato flour, and extra grease), they greased up the bag worse than any donuts ever and they really weren't all that good. The word I think of when eating these was "gut bomb". It's too bad for me because we live closest to these donuts than any place. Anyway I don't see myself going back unless I'm desperate. Another Travel Channel hot spot... They have a nice selection of donuts made entirely with 'special' potato flour. However if you want it hot and really fresh, get up bright and early before the sun and you'll score big..otherwise, take what you can get. They are still pretty good. No crazy, names just plain and simple like the town. You won't find neon flashing lights or big billboard signs, just a hole in the wall shop that offers the same thing they've been offering for 50+ years, with lots of nostalgia. Fresh made spudnuts daily. This is a very high volume spudnuts shop and locals come in to pick up their orders throughout the morning. Service can be spotty during these times, but I've never seen rudeness like had been stated. Perhaps folks could realize that the world does not revolve around them. This place hasn't been in business for over 50 years without a reason. When I visited one morning, the place was packed with people enjoying their spudnuts and coffee, and others getting dozens of them to go. One thing to keep in mind: within this establishment, please refer to those pastries-with-the-whole in them as spudnuts, NOT doughnuts. It's nice to find a unique place being so far from home. Potato Donuts!!! I didn't even know there was such a thing. I've never actually ate at this place, but I picked up donuts from here and it gets pretty busy.. We have a breakfast day each week at work where we take turns bringing in breakfast and more times than not it's donuts from Spudnuts. I don't know if the donuts are any healthier, but they're pretty good. They have a variety to choose from which will satisfy any stomach. I'm a big fan of the cinnamon buns! YUM! Having this available to me almost once every week, it's really hard to say no and not take one. Sometimes I hope they run out of donuts at the office before I see the box. If you come to the Tri-Cities, you need to at least try this once. read more

Donuts made from potato flour - you'd think yuck - but these are awesome! They are very light - and if you are looking for gluten free - I think these qualify. I've gone several times in the early evening and get the donut holes. They still have some despite their popularity. I think we even got a deal on them because they just wanted to get rid of them. Now I can't guarantee they'll always have some at the end of the day - so I feel lucky! These are cake donuts ... and glaze is very simple. I have yet to see something fancy come from this place. So if a good basic donut is what you crave - this is it! I like donut holes because - you can just plop them in - 1 bite. They are not small - but I just can't bring myself to biting the donut hole in half. I don't recall anything special about the place. It seemed clean - and staff was OKAY. Spudnuts fly out of this tiny shop each morning in startling volumes to local businesses and walk-in traffic. The assortment is tremendous and you can still get traditional cake donuts, too. The small shop in the Uptown Shopping Center has very limited seating, and is nearly always full every morning. They also serve traditional greasy spoon fare you would expect at a 1950's diner. I walked in look really nice and the smell was wonderful but I was greeted in a hurry up attitude and it was my first time there. I had heard so much about this place so I was really eager to check this place out. I was disappointed with the attitude of the cashier and the owner standing behind her I thought wow I thought ok hurry up so I got a glaze donut just one and I was afraid to even ask for coffee all I wanted to do is get out of the way and leave.
