At the recommendation of a…read morefriend, we signed up for S2G after a negative experience with another local soccer program, and S2G was EXACTLY what we were looking for at age 4-5. It's a great introduction to soccer that isn't a "league" where the focus inevitably becomes who wins/loses. As others have noted, Coach Nitzi is outstanding. From the first practice, he knew my name and my son's name, and we immediately felt part of a community. Fast forward to present day and we have done all the S2G offerings -- classes, camps, winter indoor soccer. My son has turned into quite the soccer player and S2G absolutely contributed to both his skill development and his love of the game. It's a great option for families who are pretty serious about soccer (like we are), but also for kids who just want to have fun -- it really is a range and Coach Nitzi is able to accommodate and challenge all skill levels. He has great awareness and is very adept at dealing with a large group of kids with different learning styles and personalities. I say this with great admiration as a fellow soccer coach with much less patience. ;-) All to say, if you are looking for a soccer option that is not a league, or an option to supplement your kid's league seasons, or a great camp option, I highly recommend S2G!

Overall, the program can be good for kids to get introduced to soccer and teamwork. However, during the last few classes the coaching shifted toward more competitive play, which became overwhelming for my son at his age. He started crying during those portions of class, and after three sessions like that we decided it was best to take a break so he doesn't develop a negative association with the sport. The most frustrating part was trying to request a refund for the next session I had already registered him for. It was very difficult to reach anyone by phone (voicemail was full), and it took several emails and weeks to get a response. In the end, the only option offered was a refund minus a $50 administrative fee or a credit for a future session. While the program itself has some positives, the communication and refund process felt inflexible for families with very young children who may need more flexibility.

I love playing soccer, but I was intimidated to play in other leagues because I don't have a lot of experience. The Albany league is casual, yet highly organized. Its fun for everyone from beginners to seasoned players. You can get a great workout, meet new friends and reduce stress at the same time! The refs are very fair and make sure that a clean game is played to minimize injuries. The other nice thing about soccer is that it's co-ed 5-on-5 with open subbing (teams are usually made up of 8-10 people). So there's not a lot of pressure to put a big team together and it's usually ok if you have to miss a week or two. The registration fees are very fair. If you've ever thought about playing a team sport, I'd definitely look into this. They will even help match you up with a team. It's a great opportunity for people who are new to the Bay Area. They offer a variety of classes for multiple age groups, open gym hours, and more. I would do some research ahead of time matching your kiddos age ranges with the weekly schedule ~ our drop-in was around $20. I'm sure there are monthly rates and/or memberships, but we wanted to check it out first to see what the gym entailed. The staff is incredible nice, the families/kiddos who come are great, and I appreciate the open space format conducive to safe exploration and play. There does have to be a guardian present at all times, or at least for our time slot there does :) Equipment-wise, we were very impressed. This is most def a super-elevated Gymboree (or for us, the next step!). I'm not a gymnast so not sure the technical terms for the equipment, but from our fist time I noticed the open mat, climbing blocks, trampoline, foam pit, mini balance beams, rings, and more. For the kiddos, they get stamps at the end of the hour long sesh and fun music is played throughout. A trainer is present too. Overall, we will def come back again soon. There is safe parking adjacent to the building, and can't beat grabbing a few items/gas/snacks at Costco before or after class. Happy we have a space in the East Bay like this. Bravo!

My son has soccer practice Saturday mornings and the lot is full of families, but also people jumping out to go running along waterfront. The soccer fields are huge and can accommodate multiple groups. I'm not quite sure how one reserves it. Overall, I mean it's soccer fields. The grass is in great condition and there's parking and paved space along the waterfront for kids to scoot or ride bikes. Solid.
