In the winter they have the snow globes that people reserve. There's an old fashioned vending machine that you can actually buy Better Man drinks from, you just get coins from the bar. Bathrooms have whimsy paintings and the interior decor overall is simultaneously sleek and cozy. Met Kimmy, the chaos coordinator, and she let us try their house-style tequila/agave spirit. She was really knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the distillery. So fun to talk to, would come back

You have a great driver, Kevin, who is very knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and most of all patient to put up with all our drunken shenanigans during this past weekend's Yelp Beer Bus event. The bus itself is clean, comfortable, and has both a tv and dock for playing your Ipod's. It's a great way to get around and taste a lot of beer without having to worry about getting a DWI ! Kevin knows all the routes to some of the best local breweries, and is a big craft beer guy himself. They do many beer tasting events on LI and around the local NY area and have packages available for group trips, or shorter shuttles to the local brew tastings. Check out the website for upcoming beer events and rates. To me, it's totally worth the cost to enjoy a worry free, and safe day, rather than drinking and driving. We hit up Great South Bay, Long Ireland, and Port Jeff Brewing Company. That last stop in Port Jeff on a terrific spring day was just perfect to try some beers and then wander around the town for a bite to eat before heading back to the train station to drop us off. Kevin has a great little biz here that I wholeheartedly endorse. Also, between stops it pretty much became a beer fueled dance party bus with some moves going on that would put some strippers to shame! Yay beer!

We went to Orchard Vineyards, Sherwood House and Long Ireland Brewery. Kevin is extremely personable and very knowledgeable about his stops and the Long Island Beer and Wine Scene. I ordered a plethora of cocktails, including the old fashioned, Manhattan, paper plane, and negroni. All arrived in frosted glasses - a nice attention to detail. The old fashioned featured brown sugar syrup,.which rounded out the palate well. The Manhattan tasted well spiced - herbal but not overwhelming so. I also ordered a dozen oysters ($2 ea). These proved light on brine and extra fresh. I found no errant shell pieces. The lemon arrived sleeved, and the mignonette was a smoky chipotle. The happy hour price point is almost criminally cheap here. Sunday also has the happy hour menu.

I was pretty intrigued to check out their tours, which is only $5 for NY residents. We stopped by on a Sunday, but it was quite dead. I was too embarrassed to even ask about the tour, so we just went upstairs to the bar for a drink. The space is very classy and beautiful though. There were a couple others, but it was very quiet and slow. We ordered the Tom Kha Tiki ($22) and Applewood Smoked Old Fashioned ($22). The drinks are fun with fire and smoke involved. Other than that, the drinks were nothing too special. I wanted to like this place so much more.

When a friend of mine, who like me also enjoys bourbon, suggested StillTheOne, I was excited to pay them a visit. That visit went in unexpected directions - not bad ones fortunately. Even though they have a small parking lot, you might not be able to find a spot. In that case, be prepared to park on a side street, possibly up to a few blocks away, and then be prepared to walk uphill a couple of blocks. The tasting area is very welcoming and cozy, with seats at a small bar, "bistro barrels," some long tables and at least one really comfy sofa. The owners are really knowledgeable and friendly. They're the type of people with whom I'd enjoy sitting down and having a conversation, if they weren't already busy running the place. This was a place where I was surprised that I wasn't fond of the bourbon. The whiskey and rye were more appealing to me. But the big surprise was the honey vodka. I've never been big on vodka or vodka cocktails, and I'd never had one I'd consider sipping. This one I would. Similarly, the gin was very interesting, and this would not be a gin I'd use for traditional cocktails, but would find other options. But this is still a really neat place to visit. Once you find which liquors and cocktails you like here, I could see spending a nice amount of time here with friends.

It's unbelievable good and really smooth. They also do karaoke nights and have food trucks on Saturday so it's just a cool place to spend some time with other friends and just enjoy an authentic distillery experience that's a short drive from some great at restaurants.

We were the only ones here right around closing time on a Sunday, but were welcomed in anyway and didn't feel like we were keeping anyone which is always nice. The distillery has plenty of cocktail options to choose from made from their signature liquors. The mango mojito here was refreshing and delicious, with just the right amount of mango puree. After spending the weekend getting soaked by drink prices in the Hamptons I was also happy to discover that prices here were incredibly reasonable. A standard mixed drink is $10, cocktails are around $14. Food here is the same as next door as the two share a parking lot with rotating food trucks -- our bartender let us know that in addition to the Greek food truck they also sometimes have a pizza truck that's apparently super good. Will have to come back!
