Some notes about my time at SQA Solution this past winter (I don't believe anyone else from my session has left a review thusfar) - On Prerequisites: When you speak to the management at SQA Solution they tell you that it's not required to have any programming background, which IS true, but I think the class goes MUCH more smoothly if you have some experience with any other OOP language (at least try to go through a codecademy tutorial). On Our Instructor: JF Nepton, while I don't doubt is knowledgeable on the topics covered in class, is not necessarily a natural-born teacher. He would often come to class unprepared and unorganized and I feel that the time we spent in class could have been utilized much more efficiently. JF spent a significant amount of time in class printing out materials or scrambling to find things for us to do, which I think a bit of planning would have alleviated. I do understand that he was also working full-time, but don't commit to do something and then do it halfway. There were also times where we would ask very specific questions in class and end up getting really nondescript answers like "Oh, it's just something you'll have to figure out along the way". On Resume Prep: As one of the previous reviewers commented, I also did not receive any assistance with resume prep (nor did I spend much time seeking it out). This was not a huge deal for me, personally, but may be something you'd like to take into consideration or dig deeper into prior to enrolling into the class. Note that I do realize this is a bootcamp course which does very much involve a great deal of self-study, so you can't rely on just showing up to class (and nothing more) and becoming a pro. The course WAS all-in-all beneficial for me, perhaps despite of the circumstances. While my experience with the course was positive overall, I think there is a lot that can be done to improve the experience for future students. read more

I completed the QA Automation training in late July. JF Nepton was the instructor and it was a good experience. Prior knowledge in Java or other Object Oriented Programming (OOP) languages is not required, but it is nice to have. The first half of the training goes over the configuration of your computer/laptop (Eclipse, Maven), Java, and Git. The second half of the training goes over the testing framework, Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, data driven testing, and other testing related applications. Because of the small class size, don't be afraid to ask any questions. JF will gladly be able to help you. JF will troubleshoot someone's code for an extended period of time, so you'll need to keep yourself preoccupied by going over the lessons of the day or running through exercises to continue to learn. Snacks and coffee are a big plus (going through night classes and all day classes are no easy feat). JF might rush through content near the end of class, but the lectures are recorded to be reviewed by students. If anyone is attending the class over Skype, i recommend having two monitors to see JF's screen and your coding environment. After the training was over, I also had my resume reviewed and interview help with Sean Shakirov. In the past, Sean was a QA manager and he'll give great advice on how to edit someone's resume. The bootcamp was a good introduction into automation testing and I would recommend it to anyone trying to ease their way into the tech field. read more

My name is Ala and this is my review. SQA Solution is a great institution. Loving the Automation test training, it is a Great program. I mean it is a lot like many other educational experiences, but simply you will get whatever you need to start automation test job. Before SQA Solution automation training, I did not have much programming experience besides basic knowledge of java from my previous job. However, within six weeks, I learned Selenium IDE, Selenium WebDriver, Junit, TestNG, Linux, SQL, TDD, Maven. In different words, I can say the material is well thought-out and the curriculum is solid. During the training you will be surrounded daily by great staff and brilliant instructor. Jean Francois Nepton was my instructor I can truly say that the knowledge I learned from him will help me every day on my job. Overall- This program is intense. It was the best 6 weeks I have spent in my spare time! Even though I have a computer science background, it was hard for me to start looking things online and brushing my skills on my own. We have started learning with baby steps from downloading/configuring Eclipse and writing a "Hello World!" Project in Java language. Instructors are super patient, intelligent professionals and well versatile in their domain. In 6 weeks, we have not only covered Java OOP language, but also JUnit, TestNg, Maven, gitHub, UNIX, CSS, Xpath, Selenium IDE, RC, Web Driver tools. Classes are only limited to 8 people and there is an option to join the course in person or online. Weekly 20 hours in 6 weeks period, you get to know great people and learn more by helping each other. I have gained great knowledge and would recommend everybody who is planning improve automation test engineer skills. read more

Hello, my name is Gulnara and I completed the course "White Box Automation Testing" in 2018. This was the first coding bootcamp for me and I was very nervous that I won't be able to learn Java in such a short period of time because I had no previous experience with OOP languages. My teacher was Srinivas. There were about 8 or 9 students in my class, most of them were attending on campus, and I was attending via Skype video calling. Although I was not in the actual class, I was not feeling left out. I asked a lot of questions and Srinivas was always able to answer them. At times I had to share my screen so that he goes through my code and helps figure out why I am getting errors. We actually ran our code in the class and would not move to new topics unless everyone gets successful results. So I was never left out and felt important in the class. We learned a lot of tools in this bootcamp. I never before used or configured POM XML, Maven, or ran Jenkins. This was a very knowledge-rich class and sometimes I was feeling that we are moving too fast, however if I ever felt lost - the teacher would always make time to explain the same topic again, so that everyone is on the same page. I would say, don't think you can just attend the live classes and know Java. You have to study a lot on your own and do your homework too. I learned the most when doing homework, because I had to figure out on my own why I was getting errors. Lots of googling, searching solutions on GitHub and more was involved. I realized, I can't learn all the methods at once, it takes time. But knowing the most important methods and knowing where to look to find more - that's the key. Thinking like a developer and constant learning are very important. This class was a good jumpstart for me, I never thought I'd learn so much in such a short period of time. read more

I went to SQA school for 6 weeks in the Summer of 2016 and it changed my life for the better. I can't recommend it highly enough. Before deciding to make the career change some of my classmates had taken engineering courses while others had literally no training or experience. All of the students were very friendly. Everyone was bright and the classroom environment was excellent. I was lucky enough to have a class of eight people, so the learning experience was stress free - with time for questions and practice. JF made sure to go over specific skills that matched what each student was looking to review. The teacher made the atmosphere so positive, collaborative and encouraging. This school is operated by really smart people who put all of their being into making the learning experience as good as it can possibly be. Fantastic Training! I was hesitant in joining when I first heard about their training, but after sitting in during the orientation and the first week of the class, I really felt this was the course for me. The instructor is very thorough and very patient! I now work for a Fortune 500 company and get paid double what I was getting before. I'm pretty much set for life with the knowledge I was given, after my long term project ends I can confidently find another. I had a wonderful experience at SQA Solution and I can't imagine anyone serious about getting a job would have a difficult time. I completed the program in Java in early 2017, along with Isha M., who left a review previously. I agree with everything she said, especially that there really is a pre-requisite of OOP knowledge to get the most out of the program. I didn't always enjoy the class or feel like I was getting the most out of it while in it, but the results for me were great. I got a job as a junior automation eng. based on the skills I acquired. For me, this was pretty much what I needed. I am ok at learning independently and I did work through some resources on my own before starting the class, but I always lost motivation without a class & an instructor to help me out and keep me on track. For context, my experience prior to this program was - the Portnov school full time program (focus on manual) - working full time in manual testing for a couple years - the Python codecademy course - a good chunk of https://www.pythonlearn.com/ on my own A few weeks prior to starting the SQA program, I also enrolled in a Java basics class at Foothill because all my OOP experience was in python. I dropped the class about mid-way through because it wasn't working logistically and didn't seem as useful, but having that was very helpful and I would highly recommend that as a prerequisite to anyone considering the program with no prior Java experience. tldr: Has the potential to take you to the next level in your career in QA, but not perfect & you need some knowledge before enrolling. read more

I'm about to complete my 6 week automation bootcamp at SQA Solutions, and overall I truly enjoyed the training, but be aware it wasn't easy. People have to understand, and I can't stress enough that this is a BOOTCAMP -- they're going to teach you as best as they can but you will need to put in the same (if not more) amount time into learning and understanding all the materials yourself. There's a lot of automation and coding material that are covered in this 6 week course. If you have to juggle between a full time job, personal life, and 4 days a week of intense learning for 6 week like me, be PREPARED to sacrifice somethings :-). Jean Francois Nepton was my instructor. He should change his name to something more american cause to be honest, in the beginning I was kind of afraid that he was some heavy accented French guy who I wouldn't probably understand, lol... but he's a well spoken Canadian want-to-be comedian, j/king about the well spoken part, j/k JF ;-). No, to be serious, JF (that's what we call him by) truly knows his stuff. He not only knows how automation works, he's also very patient with teaching (but at times I think he should be more firm with the class, and move the class forward a little more efficiently.). BUT I would definitely recommend him as an automation instructor any day. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone who TRULY wants to learn automation testing. The only thing I could think of that might make this course better is probably extending the duration time to 8 weeks instead of 6, just to make it a little easier for people who has demanding full time jobs like me. read more

Jut wanted to share my experience so it might help others to understand which direction to go in their career decisions! I joined SQA Solution school "White box automation testing" course last year, after a few very good reviews about this school from my friend, who completed this course in 2017. During the course I always felt a huge support from the teacher: if Shrinivas noticed that someone was behind, he always made sure that this person got extra explanation of the topic. Shrinivas is an excellent teacher who shared not only his automation testing experience, but also gave a lot of useful advices that helped me in my job searching. This is a great course for everyone : we had folks in group who came with Java experience and we had people who had never worked with coding before. Everyone successfully graduated! SQA Solutions has a proven track record that graduated students find great jobs within a few months after completed the Automation course. The secret is that they teach you exactly what is required now in companies in Silicon Valley. It took for me 3 month to find a dream job and I hope my experience will help others! read more

I'd give SQA negative stars if I could. The instructor was Prashant. Anoop is no longer an instructor here, keep that in mind when looking at the positive reviews below. Instructor attendance: Prashant was consistently late 15, 20 and 30 min. He also ended class early. I'm human too, however I'm in class on time and my education is important to me. I had to leave 2 - 2.5hrs to be in class on time. He even cancelled class 1 hour before one time. It was entirely unreasonable amount of time to notify us. Professionalism: Prashant was condescending, unapproachable, rude and aggressive. He texted constantly in class, and it wasn't occasional. We'd have to interrupt him or have to wait for his free time. - Updating code during lecture. The pacing of the course is quick, so we're unable to copy everything manually down. Rather than leaving a copy of before/after code. (OR commented out NOTES) for us to examine at home, he'd update the last code version. The right thing to do would be keep multiple copies, right? He was offended that I'd asked for this, and said "This is how I do it." - Didn't post answers to homework. I asked for the answers to be posted, or for our solutions to be discussed as a group. He flat out refused stating we were behind in the course so we couldn't cover answers. Please see attendance above. - HE RAISES HIS VOICE and is confrontational about questions. Excuse me, this is the same place were I can't write down the work? - I called the owner, Fuad. He told me to send my questions in e-mails to him. They were not answered at all. - He lectures like he's teaching to coders. Vocab swaps like method/ function. As a beginner where you learn a majority of concepts in a few weeks, this is confusing. Syllabus/ Course structure: - Prashant didn't follow the syllabus. Which is helpful when you try to study before class to be prepared. Especially when you have a terrible teacher!! - No tests, so ignore what the website is posting about testing schedule. - He used terminology without introducing it first. Very confusing for a new student. - Linux wasn't supported. I called before registering for the course, and was told Linux would be supported. Other students had 1:1 assistance with installing. He struggled with terminal and I was not supported. It took me a very long time to work it out. It was a huge issue. I was not quiet about it. I asked for technical help, wrote emails to the professor with questions, called the owner with no avail. Only after I called and asked to be DROPPED from the course, and Fuad asked me to stick with it, did my concerns get passed back to Prashant. Then there was a nasty announcement about someone "having trouble in the class". We did a few weeks of "Catch up" homework answers all at once. That doesn't help in a cumulative knowledge learning scenario. This is NOT a course for a beginner. I'm a perfect example. I've had to rush through a Lynda.com Programming Fundamentals course to try and catch up. Which ultimately I did not, and will be taking classes at another program. I set up Eclipse, Java EE on my computer before attending, and worked nearly a year as a QA before this course. I'm new at programming, but not new at QA skills. I dropped out after 2 1/2 weeks in the 6 wk course. It goes THAT FAST as well as disorganized fashion. I was offered 1k refund out of $3075. I see why I was asked to "hold on" it was to change the refund schedule to "after 50%!!" What a rip-off. Summary: If you want to feel helpless, waste your time, be told to study more (to prepare for a class you're supposed to have no prior knowledge of ) and be in a hostile environment come here! read more

I started out with SQA Solution in August to learn Selenium WebDriver using Java. In a short period of time, instructor was able to teach me Java, Selenium WebDriver, Junit and provided many tips on how to build a test automation framework with all the bells and whistles, including wait logic and more. He also prepared me for the interview for an Automated QA Engineer position. The classes are very organized and tailored to your needs. So if you don't know anything, or maybe know something and are looking to improve your skills in test automation, then he will setup the class structure according to your needs. The great thing about the class is has small groups just a one-on-one session and you get to ask all the questions and you have his full attention, which is great!!! They explains everything in detail and you get to work on a project with them. I strongly recommend their courses for anyone looking to learn automation testing from scratch or improve their skills. Happy with their 6-weeks Selenium Web Automation program for beginners. Need to mention this course is not easy and requires time commitment and effort from a student in order to succeed. I had no previous coding background, but was able to finish this program with good understanding and practical knowledge. The teacher JF was very helpful explaining concepts we didn't understand and helping to build a decent portfolio on a GitHub. PROS What I like about SQA Solution that is their support. They will never discourage you in any way. I was able to come back to repeat the course after 2 years because I was busy with a baby. Last time the teacher was Prashant and Lesya. I can't say anything bad about them. Practically there is the same fast pace with JF now. I would say even much faster and much more info now. I even fell easily behind this time. But JF is very knowledgeable and responsive, he understands that every person is different. Now they are finally record their sessions which is a HUGE plus. The only complain I would say that he needs to make more breaks (like 5 minutes) and separate home tasks from class exercises. In fact, I have attended a number of courses and bootcamps on IT subjects recently. This intensive course was by far the best in terms of amount of material our group covered and corresponding knowledge I've got. Our instructor was Srinivas. He is very knowledgeable and experienced IT professional. Class was small, therefore our instructor was able to dedicate significant time for each student. I took the Aug. 1 SQA Bootcamp. The class is very fast paced, but the instructor was very helpful when anyone had any questions. The class teaches pretty much what is in the class description - Java, Selenium, JUnit, TestNg, etc. along with several tools like Eclipse and Sublime. The only regret I have is that I didn't have any background in Java (or any language), so I always felt I was behind. SQA Solution Selenium training was very helpful. Before class, I did not know how to write or read java code and how to automate test cases using selenium. Now after the class I have created test framework, develop automated scripts and able to write java code. Anoop and Fuad were very helpful, detail orientated, and ensured that we understood the subject before moving on tho the next one. The Course: I enrolled for this course as a part of Oct 2016 batch and I'm really happy that I took it. I was amazed with the course coverage and the things we got to learn. They teach you things that are currently very much in demand in the market (Selenium WebDriver, TestNG framework, Maven etc. in fact a lot more than other online Selenium courses). The course is well structured and well laid out. A person who is not well acquainted with the technology can start doing stuff with confidence after he/she's taken the course. Course Duration: The classes happen 4 times a week (3 weekdays and 1 day of the weekend), for 6 weeks. The weekday class duration is 4 hours (6 pm - 10 pm PST) and the weekend class duration is 9 hours (9 am - 6 pm PST). For some, the duration may seem too long and for some it may seem too short to learn it all. I have been there myself. Initially I thought that it's too much of an effort to sit there and grasp it all with such a dedication, for 6 weeks. However I never really thought that I was bored or restless sitting in the class (not physically as I took the course online) as I started enjoying it from day 1 itself. Later, after 3-4 weeks I started thinking there's so much to learn still and how are we gonna complete everything in the last 2 weeks. But, end of the day, the instructor knows what he's doing and he's in total control of the flow and coverage. It never seemed liked he was too slow or in too much of a hurry. The Instructor: Our instructor was Jean-francois Nepton. He's absolutely fantastic. He basically knows what he's doing and has tremendous knowledge. What I appreciate the most about him is his patience. He would explain us the same thing several times with the same energy and absolute patience even if we forgot stuff and asked him the same questions again and again. He is punctual, will never miss the class (and if he has to, he will inform you about that in advance). He will never let you fall behind in the class and pays good attention to each student. My Experience: I had signed up for the email notifications regarding SQA Solutions course about 18-24 months back. This year I went through their website and decided to understand what this course is all about. I wanted to learn selenium but wasn't sure if this course was really that good, especially when you're spending a good, healthy amount. Once I learnt about the course coverage, I went through their yelp ratings to know if it really helped people in "seriously learning" it all and also getting a job. The rating and reviews looked good, however, some reviews were really concerning as those talked about some instructor who was really bad and who the students had a tough time with. So I decided to call up SQA Solutions and understand more about the course and know what the current instructor was like. They gave me confidence about the course and they accepted that they had issues with that particular instructor. They informed me that they had hired a new instructor who was much better and they had received positive feedback about him in 2016 batches. Another concern I had was - I'm on the east coast of US and the class timings are pretty awkward for the east coast. I wasn't sure how that was gonna work out, but my wife told me that I should go for it, if I wanted to learn it that bad. Also, it was just a matter of 6 weeks, but the knowledge I would get out of this course could be career changing! I'm glad I took the decision to go with it! All in All: A great course. You will learn a lot if you're willing to work hard. Once you learn the skills offered through this course, there's a good chance you'll end up with a job in Automation using Selenium. It depends on how much you apply yourselves. A few "do's and don'ts" from my experience: 1. Pay Attention: Focus on what the instructor is teaching, apply yourself and if you don't get it, ask questions. They don't mind repeating stuff. 2. Note: Note the answers to your questions. You will probably have the same question again and it is okay to ask again, but remember that you have to start taking notes that will help you and that way you'll not be holding up the class 3. Be Considerate: Try not to drift away much from the topic while in the class. Remember that you're holding up the entire class and not everyone may appreciate an off-the-topic discussion. Try and understand the instructor's response - whether he wants to continue with it or wants to get back to teaching. Remember, time is always short! 4. Practice the Basics: As you move into weeks 3 onwards, try to be thorough with the basics you learnt in the 1st few sessions. Not cool to be struggling with the basics in later stages while the entire class has moved forward. 5. Homework: Always do your homework, it will build up your confidence and you will ask the right questions! read more

I tool a 6 week bootcamp at SQA Solution in summer 2016. The boot-camp is 12 hours and mostly consist of Java and Selenium hand's programming as well as learning a number of different tools that engineers use in day to day basis. The teacher was amazing, very calm, took time to explain things and gave a lot of practical work to support the covered material. Very cool personal hands on experience. SQA Solution staff was also very accommodating and professional. Nice perks were snacks and pizza on the weekends. We mostly decided with other classmates what to order for lunch. For anyone that wants to learn automation QA, I would definitely endorse coming to SQA Solutions. Should you know basic coding before attending this bootcamp? I would say yes because it will help quite immensely. I was practicing already with OOP (and if you don't know what that is, I'd definitely suggest studying before attending this bootcamp) a least 8-10 months prior with free online courses when I wasn't working, so the class was not too difficult. And I've had several years of software QA experience being a manual tester, which I think helped a bit with the class as well. I attended back in the fall of 2015 and had 2 instructors, Jeff and...another instructor whose name escapes me at the moment. Both were great instructors and were quite patient with everyone if anyone needed extra time to finish a task or if they needed things clarified. The class is taught in JAVA using Selenium WebDriver with JUnit and Nunit. As for the software used, the class used Eclipse. Class length was 7 weeks long (it went to 7 weeks instead of 6 because of holidays and a family emergency on the teachers side) and they were all night classes during the weekdays and all day on Saturdays. One of the nice small perks they have at this place is that coffee/tea and snacks are available to all people attending, which definitely saved me some nights when I needed the energy. A few months after I finished the course, I was able to find an automation QA job (though the job requires me to script in C#, haha). The one reason why I decided to give only 4-5 stars for SQA Solutions is because after the course was finished, they didn't really help me find jobs. Fuad, the person that runs the bootcamp, is a great guy and helped me with cleaning up my resume to make it look great, but that was it. If you look at any other dev-like bootcamps all around the Bay Area, they will definitely help you find a job and have companies come in to meet with you. I had to send out my resumes and look for jobs myself. SQA Solutions probably sends out an email once every 2 months with a possible job posting that could work for you. What I think they should do if that's how they want try to help their students acquire jobs is sending out an email once a week with at least a few job listings. However, even though I said all of that in the last paragraph, I would still endorse this place if you want to learn QA Automation. I took a career break in 2009 and trying to get back now. I had some coding experience in Java but out of touch for several years. While researching, i evaluated between Protonov and SQA Solution and based on a good friend recommendation, chose SQA Solution. After completing the 6 weeks course, i can say for sure that this was the best decision. The classes are very practical and hands on. You can join coursers remotely via Skype. The instructor Jean Nepton was awesome. Jean structured the course very well . Starts with fundamental concepts and takes you to more depth in logical manner. Jean spends time with every individual and makes sure that each one of them is following the class. The assignments are very hands on and practical. Could not believe that i learned so much in short span and i am proud to be hands on in all these technologies (Java, TestNG, Junit, Selenium, GIT, Maven and SQL). Jean also provided good reference books and reviewed the code of my assignments very timely. Surprise tests are good refreshers and added fun. Though the center is in Daly city, i hardly went in person. The instructor was very clear and communicative, so remote sessions were easier to follow. My only constructive feedback is to consider slight restructure of the course schedule, so relatively more time is spent in automation.
