It's smaller than the other big hospitals, and the wayfinding is confusing. The signs are not the clearest and the different entrances are dispersed with no main road signs indicating directions for the different entrances other than emergency. Tends to be cold inside.

I have known this hospital has tricky layout and made me confused...and 8 years later, still tricky and more worse. The ceiling is kinda low and I felt like being in a maze. I wanted to have an ultrasound over breast but they kept telling me mammogram first. I didn't understand why but as it's their protocol, I had to follow. So I checked in mammogram test but until the technician got suspicious about I was in the another mammogram test room and I was another "Mari" (there was another same name patient!), I had no escorted by receptionist. The technician for mammogram was super kind and friendly. After we finished testing, she asked me if I had time. Of course! Then she set up ultrasound test right away. That was wow. Because I didn't have family doctor's requisition either. Both test results had nothing suspicious. I was very happy that my long day ended positively.

I had to come in due to pain and discomfort. Turned out I had an infection & having a massive pain…read morein my left hip joint. For the most part, the nurses were nice (except for this one nurse that seems to be all over the place with organizations). In terms of my treatments, they put me on IV antibiotics for 2 weeks before deciding to put me on the pill version for my infection & giving me a limited amount of hydromorphone if my hip joint continue to be an issue. All and all, while my stay wasn't terrible, but my only criticism here is: 1) make sure your fruits aren't moldy (got a serving of moldy grapes once and makes me wonder if other patients noticed it)... seriously this could've gone sideways for the hospital QUICK.... 2) Upgrade your hospital's electrical system because my room and the adjacent rooms just wasn't able to handle the amount of electricity needed for the AC because of the slight heat wave we had during the first weekend we were there (8th till 11th). It kept tripping the circuit breaker due to the sheer amount of power. This could've gone quite wrong very fast depending on the circumstances. Sure this happened in the older building but that's still no excuse. The only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the nurses I kept seeing that for the most part were pretty friendly (guess I'm lucky given some of the other reviews).

Just wanted to write a review as the few times I was in for a checkup, all receptionist, staff, nurses, doctors were all very nice and professional. I was in and out (I had an apt.) A Ten star rating! I checked myself into St. Paul's Emergency with a tightness in my chest, back…read morepain, and shortness of breath. Yep all the symptoms of a heart attack. I cannot say enough about everyone I came into contact with from the volunteers who helped me find the way to the Emerg, to the registration lady who so patiently took my information. Everyone seemed only there to help me get looked after. Even the security lady gave me her seat when there were none available. Next came the nurse who took my vitals and had more questions. She was dealing with a 60 something year old, scared guy. She was the first health professional I met, and she seemed to care a lot. She set the tone for everyone else. In the ER, I encountered Dr. Clarke. One of the most sincere, caring physicians I have ever met. More questions, more pokes and prods. I felt I was in great hands. Next came a nurse to draw blood. I never felt a thing. Just eye contact, and a laugh. Just the right amount of humanity to alleviate my stress. I met Ben, a nurse, who injected a bit of humour along with Nurse Devin. Everyone seemed to be there to just make me comfortable. They can't know how much they helped. Met the coolest ER doctor I could image next in Dr. Green. He would fit in on Grey's Anatomy. He was the senior MD. Just enough interaction to do one thing, he gave me the confidence that everything is under control, that the team was getting closer to figuring this out. Off to X-ray where get my heart checked out with an ECG administered by one of the most patient, caring technicians ever. I continued to feel everyone cares. Never a number, not even a patient. I was someone who needed help. Off to X-ray for a better look. Guided by Nurse Ben, handed off to an X-ray tech. Carefully positioned, to get her shots. A touch on the shoulder to say we're done and a kind word as she told me how to get back to the waiting room. Can you see the pattern here. Each and every person I came into contact with did their best to make me feel comforted. Back to ER where Dr. Conley told me my ticker was fine, lab results were great, that I have some muscle damage to my ribs caused by the fall I took which kicked this while thing off. I was released with great instructions, some follow up tests, and a much lighter heart! As I was leaving, my phone went off, it was Nurse Devin. I was being paged. He had Dr. Green on the phone in a second. Upon closer study they found two cracked ribs from my fall. More instructions, more compassion. If there was a way to give a 10 star rating, I would. This ER team, and my experience with them could not have been better. Thank you health professionals at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver! Greg K.

Good and bad experiences with St. Paul's Hospital. Operations, scans and personal health situations…read moreare handled by the doctors and nurses with exceptional care. Had to return to emergency. Lay on gurney for hours, no pillow offered, no water offered and no doctor ever attended. After waiting hours, I checked myself out. Week later I returned to emergency and did get a bed in palliative care. Conditions are terrible. Due to construction of the new hospital, there is much neglect in the Burrard Street hospital. Nighttime is freezing, nurses are wearing bed quilts around their shoulders. Patients are bundled up with a hooded jacket and quilts to keep warm. Conditions are not ideal for patients that need special care and attention. I hope because of the lack of upgrading and support in the Burrard location we don't have a similar situation that is happening in Alberta where patients are dying waiting in emergency rooms for medical attention.

re: recent appointment for a mid-morning procedure at the Medical Imaging unit at Eagle Ridge…read moreHospital. On my own, a fine morning weather-wise, so decided to combine getting to the hospital via Skytrain, plus a walk from the last Port Moody station stop, where I detrained. An opportunity to catch some exercise, and see a a little of Port Moody on the way. I arrived at the hospital very early for my appointment time, but decided to check-in at the unit regardless, just in case I lucked out and was taken in for the procedure early. Check-in was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Fortunately, after being checked in, I was shown into the unit, and waited in a small area rather briefly, before being called in for the procedure to be conducted. Everything involved with the preparation for, and actual procedure itself went well. The attendant explained what was going to be done, and conducted each step with careful attention. The whole procedure lasted only a matter of several minutes, and I was back out to the hallway, and ready to return home. A big thanks to the friendly, caring, and expert staff for making my 'hospital time and procedure' at Eagle Ridge Hospital go so well.

It is currently spearheading the "Bright Future" campaign to raise funds for the $1.8 billion Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment Project--the largest capital project in Burnaby's history. The Bold Vision: Redevelopment Project & Fundraising Goals The redevelopment is a multi-phase project designed to completely transform the aging facility into a modern Campus of Care that will serve the community for generations. Comprehensive Community Care Burnaby Hospital provides full-scope acute care services for all members of the community, including seniors, adults, and children (pediatrics). The modernization is crucial for delivering quality care in an optimal environment, especially for: * Emergency Services: Addressing the severe overcrowding in the current Emergency Department, which was designed for 54,000 annual visits but sees over 83,000. * Specialized Units: Including new Intensive Care, Medical Imaging, Inpatient Oncology, and Cardiac Telemetry Departments. * Mental Health: Introducing a new, dedicated Mental Health and Substance Use Inpatient Unit. Key Fundraising Event: Annual Gala Dinner The Burnaby Hospital Foundation's Annual Gala is one of its most important fundraising events, bringing together community leaders, corporate partners and supporters. * Event: 12th Annual Gala (Tentative) Date: November 7, 2025 Location: Delta Hotel Burnaby, 4331 Dominion Street, Burnaby, BC Purpose: The evening features a cocktail reception, multi-course meal, live entertainment, and a live auction, with all proceeds supporting the Bright Future Redevelopment Campaign. Unfortunately, the MD had a prior commitment and couldn't attend the Redevelopment Campaign event in person. However, they showed their support by reserving a table from those MD who were able to attend and also made a generous donation directly to the foundation.

Two weeks later, I returned, and another doctor said I could take off the boot and start walking, giving me a brochure with warm-up exercises. I told him my leg hurt and I couldn't walk. He looked at the first X-ray and saw a second fracture. I was sent for another X-ray, which confirmed the fracture. The second doctor was shocked that the previous one hadn't noticed the fracture. As a result, I spent two months in a boot and on crutches, even though I had been sent home earlier, assured that it was an illusion and not a fracture. I don't recommend this place.
