After a nice ride down A1A, I arrived in Fort Pierce shortly after 11am and decided to get a bite to eat. I found this place via Yelp and here's my honest opinion. I really like the location. It's located on the water, technically on the inlet, next to Jetty Park. The views of the water is gorgeous - it's a deep aqua color, and I always enjoy watching boats navigate through inlets. The place has a tropical Tiki Hut vibe with palm trees and sand surrounding umbrella covered tables. There's also seating at the bar under the "Tike Hut". Service is at the bar. Instructions and a QR code (which downloads their menu) are provided on a board in front of the bar. So after a quick look at the menu I stepped up to the bar where I was greeted by a friendly employee. I ordered their Smoked Fish Dip ($14.00) and a Shiner Bock ($4.25). She brought me my bottle of Shiner Bock (no drafts at this place) along with a small electronic buzzer device that she told me to take back with me to my table, and when my order was ready it would notify me. It was practically no time after I sat down and my electronic device notified me that my order was ready. Again, service is at the bar - this time pickup was at the far end of the bar. You give the employee the electronic buzzer and the employee gives you your order. I found the Smoked Fish Dip very good. It consisted of a blend of wild caught Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Whitefish, and Whiting. It was served with freshly fried corn tortilla chips, red onions, tomatoes, and ¡alapeños. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of fried corn tortillas with any kind of smoked fish dip, and would have much preferred plain saltines instead. But no biggie. Note, there's a sign out front notifying everyone that: * 21+ for admission * No dogs * No kids * No babies (No kidding) I'm not sure of the reasoning behind these rules, but it's important to know before arriving with the family and your favorite 4 legged fur baby. My family and I visited Square Grouper on Saturday, May 2, in the afternoon, around 1:30-2:00 PM. I was with my elderly parents, who are in their 80s, and our two small dogs, a Maltese and a Chihuahua, both around 10 lbs. One of them is my seizure alert dog. Upon arrival, we were questioned about the dogs in a way that felt inappropriate. I was asked whether they were service animals, and when I confirmed that one was, I was further questioned about my medical condition, which made me extremely uncomfortable. We were eventually allowed in. I was unaware of the dog policy and was not informed that dogs were not allowed, these people don't even allow children I later saw (not family friendly). I rejoined my parents and we sat at a table off to the side, away from other guests, as we are always mindful that not everyone is comfortable around dogs. I ordered drinks and food at the bar, then stepped away briefly to use the restroom. The bartender (Olivia) was dismissive and made me wait a long time to order, not very inviting. When I returned, a manager approached our table in an aggressive and confrontational manner and insisted that we leave, claiming the dogs were barking. This was not accurate, neither of the dogs barked. We were shocked by the way the situation was handled, especially because there was no attempt to speak to us calmly or respectfully. It was a bit savage, something we aren't used to. When I asked what we should do since we had already ordered, I was rudely told the food would be packed up and brought outside. I went to the bar to cancel the order instead and asked for the manager's name, but the bartender refused to provide it. The manager then came to the bar and confronted me in a rude and dismissive tone. When I tried to calmly address the issue, he became even more confrontational and started to laugh, extremely unprofessional and disrespectful - trying to instigate the situation even more. I told him I would not lower myself to his level of communication and that the situation lacked basic customer service. After that, his behavior became even more aggressive. As we prepared to leave, the manager stood by the entrance watching us in a way to try to intimidate us, then followed closely behind us as we exited. Again, I was with my elderly parents, no respect and again, savage low-class behavior. The situation could have been handled with courtesy, professionalism, and respect. Instead, we were made to feel embarrassed, unwelcome, and intimidated. I did research on this restaurant and found that a blind veteran and his service dog were attacked and there was a big lawsuit just 2 years prior. The door guy attacked and injured one of our veterans, blind, over a service dog policy is disturbing. I hope that whoever reads this, decides not to come to this establishment, there are several reviews of how rude the workers are and it's unacceptable that the owner allows ratchid behavior. They will check ID's and are pretty strict about it so if you look young better have your ID or you're not getting In. Staff has been very friendly the few times we've been there. Been coming to the grouper for the last 3 months consistently EVERY weekend and I truly love this spot. Great atmosphere, laid back but lively with a beautiful view of the water and plenty of space with 2 bars and plenty of seating under pretty lights. I really appreciate how during cold/wind/rain they have measures to make being outside more comfortable. All the drinks I've ordered have been made better than I can imagine regardless of the bartender! Food is quite tasty too, I've had the nachos, tenders and sliders and all have been flavorful. The bartenders are quick, friendly and a vibe, quite literally all of them care about their customers, especially if you become a regular . And personally after visiting the Jupiter location, I much much prefer this location by far! And lastly I appreciate the professionalism of the staff here starting with the door staff that make you feel safe and I love that it's a 21+ spot. read more

I was invited to this restaurant , I was totally shocked when I walked in! For the first time since I started critiquing local restaurants on yelp I have to be honest, I was surprised, really surprised! They didn't have any waiters taking orders, instead you had to use your smart phone and aim for the instant gram hashtag in order for you to look at the menu and then call over the bartenders to place your food order,the bartender would place your order and then give you a pager so when you food order was ready it would buzz. Then you would have to get up from the bar or table to get your food! No plates just plastic bread baskets with parchment paper. I ordered the Cuban style sandwich with onion rings. ( I guess their version) of a Cuban! Different flavors of meat and bread please understand me,the food came out hot and fresh the bartender was professional and pleasant and knew the menu well. The audience was very loud and I couldn't hear myself think. I strongly feel this is a type of restaurant that only locals enjoy and love! The bathrooms were fine ! I will try this restaurant again in the next few months during the day ! With the economy the way it is , we need to support our local restaurants and be open minded! This is the PERFECT beach bar in Fort Pierce. Similarly to the sister bar in Jupiter, this one is right off the river that leads to the ocean and has several tables and chairs under swaying palm trees and sunshine. There are two main bars and we sat at the smaller bar and waited for the live entertainment to start. The bartender was extremely nice and attentive and she seemed really busy as she was the only one in that area and it kept getting busier as 4pm turned into 5pm. We asked to change a channel and she was very nice about that. I bought the musician a drink and she even walked over to the other bar to see what he would like. The musician also bought me a drink in return! Just a super fun place. Everyone is in a great mood here and even thought it was partly cloudy, it was still so much fun to be here. We ordered Nachos which were pretty basic but very filling for the price. It's your typical bar food and this place is mostly known for metic and drinks. They do check ID, not sure when that starts in the day but just be prepared for that. read more

I have been regularly visiting the Square Grouper Tiki Bar in Fort Pierce for 3 years. From the door staff to the managers, this establishment is top notch! It is run so well. They ALL speak to everybody whether they know you by name or not. No cell phones are allowed by the bar staff behind the bar is probably one of my favorite rules. The scenery is breathtaking, from the water you can see the boats come and go in and out from the jetty. There is Derecktor Shipyard located at the end so there are many impressive boats coming in and out for repairs. And the sunsets are amazing! Food is great and plentiful. Prices are VERY reasonable. I like the fact that they don't charge a service fee for anything. Heaters and roll down windows are used when necessary. Watching patrons playing the ring-toss game is fun (some of the locals are very competitive). The bar staff is GREAT! A MUST stop for visitors in the area. The nightly music (except on Sundays) and their weekend day music is exceptional. The only very minor complaint I have is the employee uniforms. Black shirts do not go well in the dead of summer with no breeze. The girls need some sort of a hat to cover their heads in the middle of the windy winter days, also, a heavier hoodie. Be prepared if you go during the hot and muggy time, the flies were going crazy. Had a great time watching football at the Square Grouper in Ft. Pierce. Got to see our favorite bartender, Douglas before shift change and had great service from Rachael and Brent. Great menu with no surcharges and the view of the river and ocean with the white sand outside dining area was cool ! Check out their website. They have service dogs only policy, over 21 age so no kids and men at the door to keep the place safe and secure and the parking lot is for Square Grouper Patrons only tho in the past I have observed Snowbirds with fishing poles slipping past occasionally during peak season but all in all a great place on the roundabout at the Fort Pierce Jetty. Also met a new employee, Olivia who invited us there while at another location and I had another bartender a couple of years ago who gave us a personal invite and we've been regular customers there ever since. We were walking around the area and enjoying the beautiful weather and decided to stop in for some drinks and some food. We snagged a table near the edge overlooking the water. The view was top notch and loved being able to see the boats go by. You have to walk up to the bar to order which isn't bad as they had quite a few bartenders there to help. I ordered a Landshark while my girlfriend ordered the Banana Cream Pie mixed drink and we ordered the fish dip to share which was fantastic and came with jalapeños and hot sauce on the side. It was a little bit hot out at the time and we didn't really see any entrees that we couldn't live without so just got the app and one round before cashing out. I'll start by saying I've been to the Square Grouper probably over 100 times and always had a good experience. The views are the best on the island and the drink and food prices are reasonable. But tonight we tried to go around 5pm just to grab a few beers and relax. Unfortunately right before we got to the bar a friend of the bartender got to the bar first and proceeded to share her story about getting let go as a nurse for refusing to be vaccinated. This got both bartenders attention and they engaged in a 5 minute political tirade about how the vaccine doesn't work and how the governor will change everything so nobody can enforce the mandates. The whole time I just tried to get one of their attentions but they were far more interested in continuing on with their theories as to the motivates of the administration for putting the mandates in effect. The whole conversation was. We ended up leaving and just heading down to On The Edge which has great views as well. We will continue to go because we love the place but honestly those types of political conversations from the staff have no place in a bar/restaurant atmosphere; especially when the statistics don't lie and the vaccines do in fact work. read more

We have been to SG in the past, for its beautiful outdoor inlet views. The food has always varied from very good, to acceptable, so no consistency in chef(s) or management. We tolerated the wasteful plastic utensils, plates, and cups, and the fact that one orders at the bar, returns to pick up one's own food, and that there is no tableside service, whatsoever. The live music can be good, and as I began, SG is all about the view, as despite NO SERVICE, better quality food and value can be found elsewhere. Their food is not inexpensive, even though one feels like one has purchased "take out." We gad not been for some time, and upon arrival, and asking for a menu, were told to scan the QR code. We said we prefer not to, as we find them invasive and are often counterfeit, and again asked for a printed menu, to which we were told "there are none." A restaurant, with no printed menus? What if my cell phone battery were dead? Or I had preferred to leave it in my car? Or had left it at home? What if I prefer not to own a cell phone? Or mine is very basic, with no QR scanning ability? If any of these things ever apply to you- YOU ARE NOT WELCOME OR WANTED TO DINE AT SQUARE GROUPER. Plain. Simple. The female bar tender offered to help me with the QR code, promising it was not hard. Her patronizing, condescending tone was nauseating, as we politely informed her we are very tech savvy, my husbabd has a long career in IT, and that we choose not to use OUR phone to scan random, unsecure items into our personal electronic devices. This thought process was totally foreign to her, and she begrudgingly said she could "ask my manager for PERMISSION to print a menu." At that point, our aggravation level was high, and low aas our desire to give them the $100* we always spend, for two, on lunch, to Square Grouper. We said forget it and left, vowing that we will never return. Something as simple as a menu, is unattainable, I can imagine now how mediocre there food quality now must be. And for the record- before you enter- a chalkboard sign reads "No pets. No children." Pets do not belong amongst human diners (save trained, licensed, actual service dogs, which do!) but NO CHILDREN? What kind of restaurant BANS CHILDREN?!? Avoid this place, there are many other options with waterviews, that actually provide an enjoyable, worthwhile, angst-free experience, even as most businesses now put the customer dead last. read more

This is a very nice, affordable little "beach" bar. Although, technically not on the beach, you are on the water, and have great views on actual sand, which is very cute. We went for their late night happy hour (we got there about 8-9pm). It is all outdoor seating, with no wait staff. You have to go up and order drinks and food from the bar. The bartenders are friendly. I don't remember the deal (sorry) but I do remember some apps being half off. I do remember that the bill was sooo cheap! I guess too, compared to where I live (Miami) I just am not used to a bar being so economical. There were 5 of us and we each had about 3 rounds plus 2 apps to share. And we didn't spend more than $50. Side note, I love how they treat their pets! They have to adorable cats laying about, who were friendly, with collars on and they were clearly well fed. Side note: I was eaten alive by mosquitoes. Don't know if it was because we were more towards the back by some plants. But didn't expect it seeing as we were so close to the ocean. read more
