We had made an appointment to tour the distillery. The gentleman that gave us the tour was awesome. He took time out of his day to show us around and explain every detail we could think of, and quite a few we couldn't imagine! He showed us the stills, the barrels, and everything in between. It was a great experience, and quite educational. While there is no tasting there, and you can't buy anything directly, they are happy to tell you where you can purchase things. Actually, you can find some (excellect) grappa at the port tasting room right next door! Thanks for the tour. We had a blast, learned a lot, and will definitly be purchasing as many of your offerings as we can find.

I read it's his first expansion beyond his Berkeley HQ in 50 years, a milestone for a man who helped define Bay Area wine tastes. Since 1972, Lynch championed wines with authenticity, character, and a sense of place, focusing on smaller European growers. His shop in Berkeley, considered one of the best wine shops in the U.S., has a particular bent towards Burgundies, Rhone reds, Loire Valley wines, Provencal roses, and small Italian wines, and that seems to be true here as well. One thing worth mentioning, my service experience in the Berkeley location has been a more friendly one. I wasn't greeted or acknowledged during my Marin visit. My love of AppleTV's Drops of God (well, definitely Season 1) has only added to the mystique of a place like this for me. I grabbed their brochure and the reverence for the artistry, history, and human stories behind smaller production wines stands out. This new shop feels extra fancy, but that's probably part of the charm. Despite appearances (and yes, many bottles are expensive) we found a few bottles at a lower ($13-$25) price point that encourages dabbling with new styles, without that cavernous, "left to your own devices" atmosphere at many of those corporate big box wine shops. Fast forward to now and I was on antibiotics, which wrecked my gut health. My NPC suggested Marin Kombucha specifically, both because it tastes good and it works! I bought a couple of bottles thinking it would taste like medicine. To my surprise, it tastes great--the ginger lemongrass is super refreshing and the Pinot sage is delicious. After two bottles, my three month digestive problems were gone. I'm hooked! I highly recommend Marin Kambucha.

Since I didn't want to pay premium price for booze at Woodland's Market (which makes Whole Foods seem cheap), I swung by Colonial Liquors on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. I hadn't been here in 15-20 years. There's plenty of easy/free parking right in front of the store. They had a vast selection of wines & spirits. I wound up purchasing a 750 ML bottle of New Amsterdam Vodka for just $12. Hard to beat that price! I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. The guy behind the counter was helpful and friendly. FYI, they also have a deli (which I can't speak to) and plenty of munchie options (chips, candy, etc.). All in all, this liquor store saved the day. Kentfield is lucky to have it.
