I tried this place in the summer of 2019. We were seated on the east side of the restaurant. There wasn't much in the way of ambience and was actually kind of shabby. Food was OK-nothing special and the service was OK. We stopped in this week and were seated on the west side. There was only one booth occupied out of about 10. We were seated at a booth that had no light so we moved ourselves so we could read the menu. Why would you seat customers at a booth that has no light? This side of the restaurant was even shabbier-rips in the upholstery and holes in the wall. I had the enchilada plate and the enchiladas were less than half the size that they were before. Any Mexican restaurant I have eaten at have the same size enchiladas and really large plates. The plates were also smaller. Do you think that your customers aren't going to notice? I decided to try Sr. Sol with my significant other because of all the great reviews that I read. We're both a huge fan of tacos and salsa, but this place just didn't do it for us. None of the salsas were spicy and frankly all tasted the same. Portion sizes were okay considering the price. However, we have not been back and probably will not return. read more

Finally stopped in - been wanting to try this place forever. Excellent all around. Had some tacos and enchiladas - both were great. They weren't the regular American style tacos - these were minus the heaping of cheese, etc. You could really taste the meat. Service was good; the beer was cold. read more

The place is located in an old building, but the food is pretty good. My kids were in a terrible mood but the wait staff was very understanding and kept trying to calm them down. I lunch here with coworkers at least once a week or so, and the food and service are consistently on point. We are always in and out quickly without feeling rushed. Regular, hot, and verde salsas are all on hand and everything from the cilantro to the jalapeños are fresh. Soft tacos are something special here. Just ate here for the first time with my mom. We LOVE Mexican food and really enjoy trying new restaurants... We are foodies. Sr. Sol did not disappoint. The food was incredible. It may look like just any Mexican restaurant, but it is phenomenal. They not only bring you complimentary chips and salsa, but they also bring a guacamole sauce and another hot sauce. All three are excellent. I got the veggie nachos and my mom got the veggie quesadilla. It was way more food than we should have eaten, but we didn't leave behind a crumb. If you're considering this place... Just do it! You will not be disappointed. We will be back! :) read more

Sr. Sol's is pretty much your standard Mexican restaurant, as far as layout, decor, service, etc, but the food is pretty much a step above their competition. The menu has a few somewhat unusual choices on it, so those with an adventurous streak can probably find something they've not ever had in the average taco joint. Give it a try. read more

Had a great meal. Full portions were more then enough for me. The salsa was great too. My only complaint is that we were sandwiched in between two other groups in the booths. They were drunk on margaritas and kept bouncing in the seat we shared. Bad choice considering the rest of the tables on that half were empty. read more

Let me say up front that I'm rating the original location (Tallassee Rd) with 5 stars. We've had only Excellent food, service, etc at Tallassee, but I can't say the same about Location #2 on Broad St/Atl Hwy. About half-way thru the meal there, our waitress completely disappeared. We had to find other servers to complete our order and even bring the check! No idea what the problem was. Tallassee continues to exceed our expectations every time. Always clean, the wait staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is outstanding. Plus great prices. Keep it up! read more

This place reminds me of the Mexican restaurants I frequented as a child growing up in Texas. The decor and booths looked straight out of my 80s childhood but were ironically clean and comfortable. There is a breakfast menu which I haven't tried, but I was impressed that there is one available. In Texas breakfast offerings at Mexican places were pretty common. I haven't found that to be the case here in Ga. I had the Torta Cubana and it was excellent. My husband had the Nachos Fiesta and I didn't try it, but the plate was huge and piled high. We were impressed with how inexpensive the food was. I'm assuming they make the majority of their profit off their alcohol sales. The children's menu lacks variety but has Mexican staples such as a taco, quesadilla, or a burrito. If you have a picky eater, or in our case needed something that was less messy there are also cheese burgers or chicken tenders. Overall we impressed with the food and the prices. We will recommend to friends for sure. read more

My husband and I stayed at the hotel next door and really didn't know what to expect. We came in tired from work to a warm welcome. They seated us immediately and the food was outstanding. OH MY GOD I really cannot tell you how deep my love for this restaurant is. It literally is some of the best yet cheapest food in Athens, which is a match made in heaven. I consistently go here once a week, sometimes even more if I have random cravings late at night. In that case, I just immediately go in my car and pick up food in my pjs. I really don't give a shit how I look at the moment, I just need my fix. Anyways, I don't know where to begin with what I think are the best items on the menu. Firstly, since the majority of their plates can be prepared with whatever meat you choose, I would HIGHLY recommend their el pastor or shrimp. Their tacos are cheap and deliciously prepared with lime, cilantro, and onions, which is a great way to try their meats if you're unfamiliar with the selection. Their enchiladas, soup, burritos, and lunch chimichangas are also bomb. Everything on their a la carte is cheap yet amazing too. Also their chorizo queso is a must! And if you want to get drunk, they have great margarita by the pitcher specials too. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants ever, and if I decide to live in Athens after graduating for a little bit, it will be because I just won't be able to part with this amazing food. read more

For a hole in the wall next to a convenience store, this place should be on your list of Athens restaurants to try. Service is fast and very courteous. The sauces should all be tried, though when they say hot, they mean it. My favorite meal is torta pastor. read more

This is the best Mexican I've ever put in my mouth. I try to come once a week with friends. I get the fajita quesadilla ($5) and it's huge. Their ingredients always taste fresh. Cheese dip and salsa are delicious. Recently got a side of rice and it was good too. My friend loves their fish tacos. Margs are bomb too. The waiters and waitresses are always nice and so sweet. We had a party of 8 and had excellent service here. We ordered a few pitchers of margaritas (of course) and the chips and salsa (and dip). It all tasted delicious. I ordered a breaded chicken dish with rice, salsa, avocado slices, and sour cream. Everything was filling, but tasted fresh. The menu was a bit hard to follow, but the food was good. It was a friend's birthday, and the wait staff came out with a surprise dessert and giant sombrero. I thought they were going to give him a heart attack! Overall, a fun, tasty experience. read more

This has been my favorite restaurant in town since I have been here (8 yrs). I usually go to the original location on tallassee, which is amazing, but this one is just as wonderful. I have never had a complaint to make except for myself when I buy half the menu and have to pay for it. read more

I am extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, but let me reassure you: this place is amazing! The servers and staff are all wonderful.
