Please do not send your child to this daycare. The center is filthy, it is a zoo. My daughter was…read moreput in a classroom of only boys being hit and pushed all the time. They did not tell me that was not a good distribution of kids by gender in the classroom. I asked for her to change classroom and they said no. I paid the full week and they did not offer a partial refund since I took my daughter out of this center after two days. The director is very unprofessional and very rude.

We would not recommend Child Time to anyone looking for child care for the following reasons…read more On more than one occasion I have smelled marijuana on an employee. I brought this to the attention of the Director and I was told that she would look into the matter. She then proceeded to tell me that they had been having an issue with skunks in the area (this is the honest truth.) I was insulted that she thought this excuse would ease my mind and right then I knew she would not be dealing with this issue. On many occasions we were never refunded for extra classes we paid for. When the instructors did not show up I assumed my account was credited- it was not and I had to ask for a refund. The only time I was refunded was on one occasion. I gave up having to deal with the management at that point. On a weekly basis I noticed not only my child's classroom but other classrooms were out of the teacher/child ratio. Many times I would see one teacher to at least eight children. The parents were asked to fill out a survey and turn it into the management. I mentioned these issues in the survey but yet never heard a word about the results of the survey. I cannot believe Child Time did not hire an outside company to handle this- if in fact they wanted to know the issues going on in the center. Thankfully our child ended up in a classroom with a wonderful teacher Ms. Liz. She was very caring and extremely qualified to handle the children. If our child was not in her classroom we would have left much earlier. During the pickup of our child I had observed some teachers speaking to children in a very uncaring and unprofessional manner. On the positive side of things- they use an App to provide you with real time updates and pictures. The App allows you to communicate directly with the teacher. The food was nutritional. The hours of care were great for us and hard to find at other places.

My daughter has been coming here since she was 3 months old and I have nothing but good things to…read moresay about the wonderful and loving staff at this facility. It's never easy leaving your child with people while you are at work, but since day one I've felt nothing but positive feelings leaving her in such capable hands. They teach my daughter sign language, how to play well with others, and other essential life skills that I appreciate so much. Every morning at drop-off, I'm greeted with smiles and warm hellos that you can tell are genuine. It's a shame that the only other reviewer has left a negative (and, let's face it, vague and riddled with grammatical errors) review. I very much appreciate these lovely people every day and I wish more people appreciated how hard these folks work at caring for our kids every day.

My husband and I scheduled a tour to get more info on this daycare for our 2 month old. Then, the lady who gave us the "tour" did not introduce herself, and did not give us any information. She showed us the infant room and that was the extent. She asked if we had any questions. Did not tell us any information about the room until we asked, did not give any information about pricing until we asked. Very unprofessional and she acted like she did not need our business. This left a very bad taste in my mouth and I would never leave my child here.

This school is a gem right in the heart of Birmingham. That said, students come from many local…read morecities as it seems to draw many wonderful families looking for a safe and nurturing environment. They accept kids starting at 18 months (don't have to be potty trained) and you can create your own schedule from Monday - Friday. We are sending both of our children there this year. We have noticed HUGE strides in our children's learning and social skills. They do crafts (even the Tots class with kids from 18 - 2.5 years), read books, sing songs and teach lessons of sharing and tolerance. Our son started last year in the 3's program and it was so heart warming to watch him grow and play with his friends. His language improved and we got so many crafts to keep. Our daughter is now in the Tots program and only 2 months in, her vocabulary went from 20 or so words to now stringing together phrases and she pretty much repeats any word she hears. She was also really shy and now is very outgoing and loves playing with other kids. The teachers and school director are like family to us. They are really comforting and understanding and it is so evident that they love what they do! Other things that I believe set St. James apart: they disinfect all classrooms every (yes, every!) day, they have a very strict locked door policy and ID anyone that is not the usual pick up person (I've seen it for myself when a dad was picking up his son and a teacher didn't know him). They do work sheets and it is very focused on education / learning. All of the teachers there are required to do so many hours of training each year too. Again, you can do as many or as little days a week you want and mornings or extend the day to 2:00, they do lots of crafts, they have a balanced amount of activities and field trips and the other parents and kids are just wonderful. I've met so many great moms and feel so happy every time I am there. We looked at other schools and have friends at other schools and truly, St. James far exceeds anything we could have asked for. Check out the school! You can call Shar Wickens, the director, directly and set up a personal visit when convenient for you.
