I am a physician who has practiced since 1967. It's a team effort, and, vacationing in Bend, OR, a place that I hardly heard of, I didn't expect to find this laboratory in the Big Leagues, let alone in the All Star Game. From the greeter, to the phlebotomist (a real sharpshooter where you would want one to be) to the unseen laboratory techs, couriers and clerks, phone answerers, and the executive team that put all this together, they are, collectively, the best team I've encountered. Accurate, fast! and accommodating. I was scheduled to have a surgical procedure upon my return to San Rafael, and labs were supposed to be done 3 days in advance. But I was vacationing in another state. And one of my tests of kidney function was off, and I needed to have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that I was not getting worse, but was stable or better. The ordering cardiologist had forgotten one important test, and it was 7 AM, before the office was open to reach the cardiologist. The lab took my order, and, as it was a"stat" the results were available to me, from a satellite lab, in 2 hours! It could hardly have been much faster if I had been in the hospital ICU. It took a team to do this. Well, maybe I just got lucky. But, I don't think it was luck. St. Charles has assembled and all star team and infused them with empathy, as well. That's the reason I became a doctor, and I wish that I had always had this team available to me and my patients. Oregon is a beautiful place, and Bend is a really great place for a vacation, and if you need health care services, you couldn't do better at the Mayo Clinic. Thank you all!

You would expect her to be gentle and kind. She was anything but. She didn't say hello. She just asked me confirming questions about my identity and dove in. She had me reaching across the chair to HER versus her coming around to the left arm which I requested because I work with my right arm as an artist. And this awkward angling may have been the cause of the non-stop pain I had during the draw. My doc had asked for a lot of tests, so a lot of blood needed drawing. I have great veins; work out and am an athlete. I never have ANY trouble and am not squeamish in the slightest. But after this, I can see why people get that way. Every time she changed tubes she yanked the needle against the vein wall causing increasing pain with every change. I told her about this after first and she just ignored me and continued. I've had tons of blood draws over 62 years and I'm telling you, she was the WORST. I will NEVER go back there.

It literally took him 5 minutes in and out. He got my vein instantly and was so gentle. He was a sweet guy even under all the pressure of not having a working kiosk where ppl sign in...This takes a lot of talent!!! I'll never go anywhere else now!! Thank you!!

I was on a camping trip with my family from out of town and needed medical attention…read more And I'm so glad I found St. Charles Hospital in Bend. From the minute I walked into the emergency department I was taken care of in a very kind, efficient and professional matter. It was about 7 o'clock at night when I checked in with a friendly lady (unfortunately I don't remember her name). The check in was easy and quick. After only spending a short period in the waiting area I was seen by a wonderful triage nurse (Jacquie). She asked me some questions and I was immediately taken into a room where another nurse (Mike) looked after me. The room and the hospital itself is very clean and modern. Mike took some blood, brought me warm blankets and started an IV line. Just shortly afterwards I was seen by Dr. Ryan Petersen and nurse Emma who did an exam. Both were very respectful and professional. I also had to get an ultrasound and Erin made me feel calm and took care of me ever so gently. As my husband and son were waiting in our RV just outside on the parking lot we were given a list with nearby hotels and parking facilities, which was truly thoughtful. Both my husband and son were able to come and see me for a short period of time for some much needed support. Later that night I was discharged and Cody one of the hospital administrators took my details. We had a brief yet deep conversation and I could feel that I was not just a number or patient, but a human being with physical and emotional needs. The staff at St. Charles hospital is just excellent. They do listen and they do care!! Dr. Petersen came to see me one more time before leaving the hospital and handing me my discharge papers as well as explaining what had happened and how to handle the aftercare. Even though I was relieved to leave the hospital Nurse Mike made farewell just a little harder! Mike: you are an amazing nurse and such a wonderful person with a big heart! I'm so thankful for you! I must say that I'm more than impressed with the care this hospital provides. The emergency department surely has a fantastic team and everyone is going out of their way to make patients feel comfortable, reassured and safe. I have so much appreciation, respect and gratitude for each and everyone going the extra mile! Thank you ever so much for all your sweetness, kindness, compassion, professionalism and hard work!!!
