I do love donuts but I don't love every donut, however I do love St George Donuts! This is a colorful location and a very neat environment. The staff was really friendly and interested in making a great experience. Then the donuts... WOW. I had half a dozen . Each an amazing flavor . Soft, moist and with a delicate sweetness. I usually stick to the traditional toppings and I did enjoy the glazed and the old fashioned. The real surprise was the orange frosted and the gingerbread. Wow ! The orange was so delightful that I did t even share . I don't care for gingerbread cookies but as a donut... sign me up! I also tired the special blend coffee and found it worthy of donuts . PROS While some donut shops in the area try to overcome their underwhelming pastries by overloading them with mountains of extravagant toppings, St. George's takes a different approach: each donut, from the humble glazed to the heavenly Bavarian Cream filled long-john, is made fresh that day - nothing day-old or stale here - and they only as many as they know they can sell. My personal favorite is the glazed, Bavarian Cream filled (either traditional round or long-john). While it comes in chocolate or maple frosted, I think the original glazed best highlights the crisp exterior and tender middle. Their old fashioned and donut holes are a close second for me. Another major pro is the staff. They are kind, helpful, and efficient - even when the line is out the door! That, paired with a bright and clean space, makes St. George's a favorite stop for a treat with our whole family. CONS The only downside of St. George's is that if you don't get there by mid-morning your favorite may be sold out, but for me I'd always rather try something new than know there's a chance my donut will be stale! So I don't even like donuts, so when my other half insisted we get a donut after brunch - I went with the flow. But - my oh my. This place isn't fancy and if you are looking for a gourmet donut like some crazy combo besides glazed, old fashions, jelly, sprinkles, then this is not your place. Ok. That's enough because the gal behind the counter has already asked you about six times how many donuts you need...not which ones (a.k.a. the crux of the problem.) Is this heaven or the other place? It's a blustery Saturday morning, yet by 7:30 AM a couple of items were already sold out. No worries. You didn't need those anyway (your sin of avarice has been absolved.) Just get the Manager's Special. For my visit it was 6 donuts and 6 large or specialty pastries. You still have to choose, but you'll get one Jim Dandy mix of goodies! And kids DO need sugar, so long as they're someone else's kids. For reference, my box of goodies weighed a couple of pounds (visual aid: larger than a quarter and smaller than a Fiat 500 Abarth.) Throw in a dozen donut holes to get you safely back to your hovel without eating the box you keep glancing at. Coming from New York, it's tough to find a donut shop that compares to the many amazing choices here. St. Georges gets pretty damn close. Their donuts are made fresh on the spot and constantly being brought out. I've not had one yet that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. While cake donuts tend to be a tad dense, these seem to have a light airy texture to them. The blueberry is by far the best one they offer, followed closely by the simple yet delicious cinnamon sugar. The red velvet is another favorite. The cinnamon crumb donut is one I haven't seen before, and is really good as well. They also offer several jam and cream filled options. The strawberry one I tried was pretty great, and extremely fresh. Honestly, you can't go wrong here. The line can get pretty crazy, but it moves fast. The staff for the most part is pretty friendly and helpful. They tend to be a bit brash at times, but that's probably due to the high volume of people coming and going. We rolled in here for the first time around 11 am on a Saturday and it was very quiet and the case was still more than half full. At first that kind of worried me because my hometown favorite donut shops are out of everything by 9 am on Saturdays...no need to fear, these were some of the BEST donuts and Danish I've ever had. My husband (also a major donut lover) totally agrees. On our second St. George stop we were lucky enough to walk in as an employee was bringing out HOT apple fritters. They have the best quality and selection of donuts in town. My favorite donuts are the blueberry and the maple but I have never had a donut here that I didn't like. Hands down the best donuts in Springfield!! The flavor of the glazed donuts reminds me of the donuts I had when I was a kid. The donuts melt in your mouth and it is pretty much impossible to eat one without a "mmmmmm" sound as you bite into one. I have tried many of their donuts and have yet to find a donut I didn't like! One recommendation would be to get there as early as possible because they only cook a certain amount of each donut and when they run out that is it for the day. You should be ok if you arrive before 9am. After that the picking gets slim, but like I said earlier you can't go wrong with any of the donuts. I also think they close pretty early around noon or when they run out of donuts. Not very many places to sit down in the restaurant, but I always take mine to go so that never bothered me. read more

I drove all the way from Strongsville to George's in Aurora and phoned while I was driving to make sure they would still have donuts left when I arrived. I was assured there would be donuts left. After a 45 minute drive, I arrived to a locked door and donuts were sold out. Perhaps it would be a good idea to put a donut aside for a customer who is driving that far to buy your donuts.
