I am very disappointed. As I am new to the area and looking for a vet for my cat, I gave St. George Veterinary Hospital a shot. Dr. Kylie Clarke was very uncomfortable around my cat. She seemed unsure and not confident at all. I do not know if she likes cats or is just new?? I was the one helping her check him out. Showing her his teeth and some matting on his hind legs. I asked if she could help me shave off his two mats. I helped the whole entire time by holding him, pointing out the mats, and lifting them up. Also, she didn't even do it as her tech stepped in. I was not told that this would be an additional fee. I was charged $32 for something that lasted maybe 2 to 3 minutes. When I went up to the front desk to go pay, I was hit with a high bill that I was not expecting at all. I asked three times for it to be explained as to why it was so high and then to be told that I was charged for a shave along with his check up. I told Shellie the receptionist that I did not know that was an additional service and that I was not told so. She told me that she believes that the price is way too high. I asked her if she could do anything so she went in the back and talked to them. They admitted that they did not tell me it was an additional service and that they should have. They then said they would give me 50% off of the service. Shellie said, "we dropped the ball and we normally are really good at informing people of additional services and what they cost beforehand." If I would have known, I hundred percent would not have had them help me. I called this morning as I am still not happy about what had happened. I talked to Lisa the Hospital Manger who did apologized, but then told me that, "I need to take accountability and realize that it was my fault for not asking how much it was and to see if it was an additional service and that I should have asked for help." She proceeded to tell me that I should've expected for everything to be an additional charge and that they never deal with situations like this. That they don't normally tell people and it should be expected. (Below, I attached a statement that they posted about how they normally do communicate) Unfortunately, looking at the reviews, it looks like multiple people have also had the same experience as me with unexpected charges, no communication, and being overly charged. You would think that running a business you'd care about customer service and making your customers actually feel like a human and not a dollar sign.

They are always very attractive and I appreciate the text message reminders . They also explain everything in a way that I can understand, but if I need more explanation they are very patience and never get irritated having to explain something twice. They're get and I appreciate them immensely! And my boys are nervous but not for long. They have a very caring and patient way and my boys are soon in love with them. Thank you so much.

Let's walk through the events that led up to this poor review and a very unhappy customer. I'm a student who is living off of a very tight budget, so I call/email around town to get a good price for my cat's declaw surgery - I don't want somewhere that is too cheap (bad care), but I can't afford anything too expensive. So, I get about 10 quotes from vets offices in the area, and St. George Veterinary Hospital comes in with a great price and fairly good reviews. Their email to me includes a quote for $205. I think this is fantastic and email back (the week after) to confirm that this price includes the surgery, the anesthesia, the pain management in house, antibiotics, and at-home after care/pain management. They respond back with an affirmative and even restate the price. I go ahead and book my cat for a wellness check up prior to her surgery so that she is cleared for the procedure - while there, the staff is friendly and the vet seems ok. Out of an abundance of caution, I bring up the matter of price to the vet and she responds "Yeah, it's about $200-300. Somewhere in there". This, of course, concerns me a bit because a swing of $100 is not what I expected, nor what I consider to be normal fluctuations in price; I began to think they were just making up prices and something about how there didn't seem to be a concrete price (besides what I had in an email) was strange. What is the official price for a routine procedure? This shouldn't be a question met with different answers. So, I mention that I have an email with a quote; this immediately seems to put the vet on edge, and she appears to be a little put out especially when I tell her that the quote is $205. She and I go to the secretary to confirm and I am reassured at the desk that my email was accurate - it will be "around $205, give or take a few dollars". This makes more sense to me, but I am still left feeling uneasy - I should have gotten something in writing that was signed, but doesn't that seem like overkill? I took their word for it, confident that my email would be good enough proof of our arranged price. My cat has the procedure on a Monday, I pick up her up on Tuesday - everything went well (and my cat seems to be happy and increasingly pain free as I write this). However, when the matter of payment comes up, and I get ready to hand over the money, the receptionist says "Ok, that will be $487." Of course, I am appalled by this number but I keep my cool (having already kinda suspected something like this would happen), and I calmly explain how I have an email with a price that I have had confirmed 4 separate times by different people. She goes to the back, and later returns to hand me an invoice that now reads $356. I ask her why it is still way over what we discussed - I show her the email again, and make it plain I will not be paying more than what we agreed. I can see paying $205-250 because things happen - more meds might be needed and things come up, I get that. But $150 more than the quote? No. So, she goes back again, and now a different woman returns with a different invoice. This one, they explain, is now $286 - they took a couple items off (to try to get me a good deal, you know?), but I persist. Why is it still so much more? What additional things are you charging me for? They say, your cat came in with a "laceration on her paw" - I say, "Which paw?" - they say, "I'm not sure. One of the front two. But, since we put bandages on, it may have closed up. We gave her the antibiotics you see on the bill because of this cut - better to be safe than sorry". But, I smell a rat. Antibiotics are standard post-procedural aftercare - you give them after any surgery that results in open wounds. You know when it is especially standard? When the open wounds in question are on the paws of an animal that walks on all fours on the floor and digs around in box full of their own feces; antibiotics are not a little cherry on top of the cake you put there out of the kindness of your heart - they are standard. In addition, my cat certainly didn't have a "laceration" on her paw, and she definitely didn't have one that was capable of closing up in less than 24 hours. Either they have magic bandages at their facility that the world needs to know about, or my cat had the best kind of laceration one could have - the kind that never existed in the first place. So, no - the bill was not $80 more because of antibiotics (even if they were that expensive - which they are not). **more in the photos**

This is my sweet angel who wont be in pain ever again.

When I mentioned this to Ryan Bowler that his tech hurt my dog he just shrugged it off and suggested because it didn't bleed that he wasn't hurt. I about lost it. When I told him I was taking my dog to someone else he just dismissed it like he couldn't care less. No apologies, offers, consolations or considerations to keep us he just dismissed us like we were nothing to him. He literally couldn't care less. I've been bringing Harly in for a couple years and then they did this like it was just business as usual so I told him I was done with his horrible practice. I'm telling you these people will hurt your dog and then act like it was yours or the dog's fault! Then they said she needed another surgery after that for something else, which was over $10 THOUSAND. We decided to go pick her up from our vet and make a hard decision to put her down. I started calling around Vegas with info that our vet gave us, and the Vets that did answer said the same price, and the risk was huge! I started doing a wider search in California, Arizona, and Utah. Finally, I called Lava Rock, Ashley answered, I asked A LOT of questions, she patiently answered all of them, and she set up an appointment for the next day. We packed our bags, along with our other dog (so if the surgery was successful, and she needed aftercare, we would stay out in St. George). We arrived, and the first thing they noticed was how well our puppy was acting. Dr Murdock went over all Philly's records and did an exam. She let us know that after the exam, she didn't see any reason to put our girl down. We were SHOCKED AND CONFUSED (crying happy tears now) as this was such a serious life-threatening problem, so we asked her to take an X-ray to reassure us. SOUTHWEST EMERGENCY VET CLINIC came up with EMERGENCY CARE HOURS M-F 5:00 pm until 8:00am & 24 hrs Sat. & Sun. (normal hours that a regular vet is closed). I grabbed my baby and rushed down to the clinic only to find a CLOSED SIGN on the door with a "SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE" noted at the top.
