I went and picked her up, payed $100 for the adoption which included her spay, vaccines and they kindly supplied me with food for a few weeks. The gentleman with with black hair and glasses, he's wonderful. Im so upset I can't remember his name but he is very kind and knowledgeable on all the kittens inside. Lulu is very nice as well. I've seen multiple comments where people are bashing her attitude and saying things that just aren't true. I have met with and dealt with lulu on multiple occasions now and although she is very to the point and direct, she is far from rude. Her job is to adopt out helpless animals to good homes. If you get denied it isn't her fault. Dont try to adopt a puppy for your 90 year old grandma... it's just not a good fit you know? And if you just became an adult yesterday... yeah I wouldn't trust you with $5 bill let alone something with a heartbeat. Lulu is very considerate and loves the animals inside. She is direct and is a no nonsense type of person. If that isn't something you can respect, especially in this industry, then adopting anything EVER isnt really in your cards. My kitten was struggling and when I called up PAWS just to ask a simple question, Lulu helped me in making sure my kitten was taken care of, and for the coming weeks. This was absolutely without a doubt the best adoption experience I have ever had. Ill recommend this time and time again. GREAT people. GREAT atmosphere.

They had availability for the Grand Tour and after eating at the nearby Angel Village Cafe, we were off on the shuttle. Ours was a pretty personal tour with only 6 people in total. We first went over to see the resident pigs, including plenty of petting. I loved how they flopped down, ready for belly scratches, immediately upon us entering the pen! We then took a drive around Dogtown, then a stop at Cat World, including a visit into one of the 11 buildings on site. Plenty of cats lounging around to pet. Finally, we drove around the Bunny House, Wild Friends building, and Horse Haven. All in all, it took around an hour and a half, with plenty of excellent commentary the entire time. I do have to say I am a little skeptical about some of the stories - for example our tour guide Amanda told us about an animal shelter which didn't have any employees on site during the weekends so every Friday they euthanized the animals in their care... No way, right? Before visiting Best Friends Animal Society, I thought it was kind of cult-like, but they don't seem to be particularly pushy. In the end, it's a free tour, making it a cheap and entertaining way to spend an afternoon.

The Land Of Oz…read more.... My wife and I planned a 2 week road trip across the Southwest US with a 5 night stop in Kanab. One day was for Zion National Park and most of the other 3 days were for our first visit to Best Friends. It was time well spent. As a Facebook friend explained....."There is nothing in this world like Best Friends. What they do is amazing. Angels come to life right here on earth." Best Friends is not a country version of any animal shelter you've experienced. It's like a city for cats, dogs, goats, horses, pigs, rabbits and others who were abandoned, injured or thrown away - spread among 4,200 acres of buildings, corrals and playgrounds. For most people, it's the biggest farm or ranch they've ever seen or imagined. Best Friends is massive, but their job is massive. They accept animals from all situations across the US...rehabilitate them and facilitate their fostering or adoption. During the fires in Los Angeles, they rescued hundreds. Aside from a happy home, an animal remaining at Best Friends will receive more care and love from employees (815) and volunteers (thousands) than anywhere else. We took the Grand Sanctuary Tour one day and went on 2 tours another day to the Bunny House and Goat/Pigs. Then we volunteered an afternoon with 2 dogs which was something we'll never forget. And remember to stop at their cafe. For $5, you get a buffet lunch of great tasting vegan food...and a view from the large patio overlooking what you'd swear is the Grand Canyon. Best Friends helps them live their best lives. It's like the Land of Oz.

Although we need more training then they do, David works patiently with us too. We went for our dogs graduation and learned how to continue their good behavior. The lessons he provided right off the bat were appreciated and implemented. Seeing how well she responded we wanted to immediately start her in his 3 week course as AKKs are known for darting and not listening. However, Dave said "Let your puppy be a puppy and contact us in a couple more months." I really appreciate him saying that. We continued training her at home while enjoying her puppy bonding time and 2 1/2 months later dropped her off. Three weeks without her was hard but we did it! When we picked her up we found the same happy pup but with added obedience. She even retained the training we taught her at home (we have a dog door bell system to signal outside for potty). Her auto-sit while walking and sit+stay / down+stay on leash are quite impressive and you can tell how proud she is when performing these commands as well as sitting at the door waiting to be invited in/out. In the back yard she's perfect with 'heel' but in the real world she's still a bit excited. That's expected with her breed and we will continue to train daily with the skills Dave taught us. Loyal K-9 is highly recommended for obedience training. While it was hard not to have her for three weeks it really has paid off. Thanks Dave and Cathy!
