We received exceptional care and attention from Jake, who wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. As a Sonoma County native, I've always made a point to support local small businesses, especially those from the Sonoma and Napa area where community truly matters. That's why I chose to give your shop a chance. It was disappointing to be met with a dismissive response, suggesting that my current residence in Idaho somehow invalidated my offer or my commitment to supporting local. I made a fair offer--$400 less on a 4-year-old used bike that, according to your own ad, needs a new tire. I even arranged for local pickup and referenced your offer to split shipping, which would have brought the deal to around the same value. Update December 4, 2022: I was freezing. I hadn't worn enough head cover, I was 20 miles into a ride and my ears were about to fall off. Trek had *exactly* the insulated head cap / ear cover I needed and I was out back riding within 10 minutes. They've got the tools, they got the talent! Original review from October: I flatted a few miles from this shop and stopped in after changing the tube to grab some air. The tech - whose name I forget because I am horrible with names and clearly a horrible person as well - was super friendly, super helpful, and got me back on the road super fast. He also gave my 2013 Madone a once-over to make sure it was fit for the ~12 mile return trip, which I made without issue. So I had that going for me, which was nice. The staff here made it incredibly easy to grab a bike and get out on a good ride while I was on vacation. I do find their hours a little odd (they open late), but they let me pick up my rental bike a day before so I could get out for a ride at 0700 the next day. The Trek Domane 4.5 I rented was well tuned and came with a perfect flat kit and a torque wrench to adjust my seat post; it probably could have had better and smaller tires, but luckily I didn't have any problems with flats. They spun on my pedals and attached my garmin mount really quickly so I could get on my way. I'll be back next year! read more

African American woman asking about a mountain bike is never serious, I guess. Justin took me seriously I had a skirt on and he still asked me if I wanted to test ride the bike. I told him I was coming back the next day. I came back test rode the bike and sold. He was courteous and kind. Addressed my concerns and made sure that I could adjust seat myself. picked the proper gel seat and talked to me about safety light. I only wished they had group riding,but I get why they dont. Robert and the crew were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Before arriving at the store, Robert helped us over the phone to confirm availability and store information before we made the 2 hour trip from the Sacramento area. He gave us some traffic advice, too! When we got to the store, he and the crew answered our questions, let us test drive the bikes, and even helped us fit the bikes onto our bike rack. After explaining the settings and service recommendations, we were off with our new gear. I can't recommend St. Helena Cyclery enough! I rented two E-Bikes this weekend and the experience from beginning to end was wonderful. The website was super easy to navigate and to reserve the bikes. I then called several times with questions and for more detailed information on the different recommended bike routes. I also opted to have the bikes dropped off at our hotel and picked up at the end of the day. That was super convenient! The whole staff was very friendly and patient. read more

Employees were extremely rude and snotty both over the phone and in the store! The store was overpriced compared to Official Trek owned stores and Trek Franchises. The employees were more concerned with their bottom line far more than customer service. They are a detriment to the Trek Brand. Napa County Health Department requires retail merchants at this time to wear face masks and not one of the store employees were wearing a mask. That was the last time we will ever step in the store and Corporate is now aware of our experience. read more

My boyfriend and I rented two road bikes for a day of wobbly wine tasting, a 13 mile loop around the store (Duckhorn, Failla, V. Sattui, Merryvalle) that ended up being ever so scenic and memorable. The rental included a helmet and a storage bag on the back for $40 each per day. My boyfriend was able to fit 3 bottles of regular wine and a shorter bottle of Maderia desert wine in his bag. I had one bottle in mine and room for more. So if you're looking to wine taste and are wondering if you'll be able to make purchases, I'd guess you could buy 8 bottles between 2 people and fit them in the storage. The bike lanes were wide enough everywhere that it felt quite safe. Also, the young man that helped us adjust our seats and my helmet helped make this experience totally flawless. The bikes rode very well and the gears and everything were easy to use. They even provided us with a bike lock. I would rent bikes and do this again in a heartbeat. read more

Rented e-bikes for one day. Was barely given a greeting and asked to sign documents. Pedro was instructed to get us "set up". Basically he said "here are the bikes" and that was the set up. No instructions on how to turn the electric part of the bike on or how long the battery would last. We rode a bit and couldn't figure out how to turn them on and had to return to store for instructions. After a few hours of riding one of the bikes battery ran dead. We had already ridden 30 miles so to ride the last 5 miles without electricity was tiring. Upon returning the bike we told the manager and his response was "oh yeah, it runs out after 25-30 miles". This would have been helpful info when planning our route of cycling. Poor communication on all parts. read more

I rented a Trek Road bike for a Saturday to ride in Napa Valley and picked up from the Napa location. Phil greeted me as I walked in and gave me a great overview of the bike. They also included a seat bag with flat fix supplies. The bike was super clean and adjusted well for the ride. Appreciate the online reservation process. The man who checked us in was extremely rude to my party. He came off as standoffish and as if annoyed by us. Questions were rudely answered and honestly there were unnecessary comments on his part. There were two individuals working here this morning and the slimmer one was the rude one, not the stocky one. Would not recommend based on service alone. There is a formula you look for when renting bikes out of town: convenient location, good equipment and people who know the area and are willing to give advice. This place checks all the boxes. They have options for recreational riders (cruiser bikes) as well as more serious cyclists. Reservations were easy and they were super accommodating when we arrived early. The bikes were well maintained and they made sure we had everything we needed on the road, in case of emergency. They gave us good advice on the route (it was a tough one!) including where to watch out for traffic. A good, stress-free rental experience. read more

Dz. Terovic. I would like to give five stars to this amazing place, they were awesome. My wife and I were spending a day in St Helena and came from Alameda. We saw a bike shop, so we walked inside and spoke with Robert. We explained that we were in the area and wanted to check on the availability for a road bike for our son because his bike was stolen. Robert kindly shared that he had one such bike in his shop, but his team was very busy and they needed time to assemble. We asked about the possibility of picking up an assemble bike same day as we were leaving St Helena same day. Mr Robert told us to comeback by 3:30 pm and promised to do his best. We returned around 3:30 and the bike mechanic was about to test ride the assembled bike. After mechanic returned, he adjusted the seat for our son's height, we completed the invoice and were on our way home with a new bike as a surprise for our son. Thank you Mr Robert and the amazing stuff of St Helena Cyclery for great customer services and making it happen for our son to enjoy bike riding again. Want to tour Napa on bike? Look no further than St. Helena cyclery! When my boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip to Napa, I immediately knew that bike-touring was at the top of my list for activities. And from our experience I can tell you: there is nothing better than being in wine country, sampling as many wines as you want, and burning off your buzz in the fresh air and sunlight before you get to the next vineyard. The scenery is GORGEOUS, the ride not too rigorous when you don't want it to be, and we were so grateful to not be trapped in a car and be able to stop and take a picture, or enjoy a picnic, whenever we wanted (we even saw a plum tree along our ride and stopped for a snack of sun-ripened fruit - how often can that happen when you're whizzing by in a car?) The St. Helena Cyclery staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The bikes we rented (hybrids) were wonderfully equipped (a bag in the rear for storing your picnic gear and cameras) and super comfy (suspension makes the bumpy ride so much more pleasant on your bum!) At the end of the day, I even inquired about purchasing my bike (they do annual sales in the Fall!) Another big plus: the prices are SO reasonable ($40 for the day! - get there early!) and the cyclery is located conveniently close to some of the best wineries in the area, and the Silverado Trail is easily accessible from the store (and they provide a map so you can figure out where you want to go). We weren't sure about renting here or in Napa, but I'm glad we opted for this. St. Helena links up nicely with other towns via the the Silverado Trail, and you're likely to get a more diverse and streamlined bike touring experience if you start somewhat in the middle of the area, rather than at the very butt end, which is where Napa is comparatively located. We spent a whole day on bike and got to taste and tour 5 different wineries. Truly wonderful! read more

My trip to Napa was heightened with a pleasant bike ride through the neighborhood. The shop is along a street of boutiques and maintained by a friendly man who provided us with potential bike routes. We opted for a 6 mile round trip ride through hilly roads and the scenery was almost surreal. We were able to rent two bikes for $21 for an hour. I'm not sure how this compares to other shops but I think it was definitely worth it. read more

I love cycling, but we didn't bring our bikes on our trip to Napa. Big mistake. If the weather is agreeable, touring wine country via bike is great. We rented bikes for a day. I don't rent a lot of bikes, but the last time I did, a day was for 24 hours. Not so at St. Helena Cyclery, where a day is a business day--i.e. rent for a day and it has to be returned on the same day its rented. Getting the bike back for the Sunday closing time of 5pm had us rushing. Their basic rentals are 2012 Trek 7300 hybrid bikes. A full day is $40 + tax. As an fyi, the bikes retailed for $580 and include a suspension fork as and seat post. The bike was comfortable. But, the seat was too padded for me. Wicked uncomfortable, but for the more casual cyclist, it might be perfect. Service was okay. But, the best thing about the bikes was how well they were tuned. Shifting and braking were perfect. Rental includes a helmet, lock, and bag on the back of the bike. read more

On a six day tandem tour from Sac to SLO we crashed climbing up to Lake Berryessa and needed some repairs when we reached St. Helena. Stopped by on the off chance they could fit us in and somewhat surprisingly said no problem. Handled everything I needed to be done and found a few other things that needed repair that I did not even know about. Superb service, super friendly, and very knowledgable. Honestly, I have never gotten better repair service from a bike shop and I am not even a local! I strongly recommend. read more

This shop was great. The bike came with a tail pack to keep your stuff in and a water bottle holder. I rented the bike in St. Helena, rode it along the road running between the wineries and ended up at the Calistoga Spa for lunch, a mud bath and a massage. The bike was tuned well and although $40's a bit expensive to rent a bike for a day that costs $200 max, I liked the experience (and I didn't have to drag my bike all the way up there from LA). The staff here are very entitled and rude. They don't seem even remotely interested in helping you, and yet charge insane prices for the product. I bough two baskets for my bike. After taking the hit of buying the damn things, I asked if I could use a tool or two to install them. That's a strange question that I didn't expect them to say yes to. What I didn't expect was how straight up rude the employee was when he told me no. I was then told it would be $15.00 for an installation. I asked if we could haggle $15.00 for both baskets. I was told yes. When I came back: "okay, that'll be thirty dollars." Despite being clearly frustrated and already not having a good experience, I said, "but you said 15." The man who installed it was so discourteous that I was actually insulted. Eventually we settled on $20.00, and they acted like they were doing ME a favor. I don't understand why a store would be so unwilling to compromise for unsatisfied customers. I tell people to avoid this store. I avoid it completely. read more
