I was on a mission to buy my husband a great bike as a gift. We made our rounds to many bike stores and wete so happy with the selection and service community bikes had to offer. Everyone was so kind. They have a huge selection and the bikes are extremely reasonable. Nothing there is new but all donated and 2nd hand and refurbished. I would highly recommended them for a 2nd hand bike. My husband liked the new REI bike better so we went back for that. read more

Community Bikes is a true community resource! I swung by during a hike ride because one of my bikes shifters wasn't working. I hiked up and a young guy outside said it would take him two minutes to repair the bike. He installed a new cable run for the shifter in two minutes: literally! I has an old bianci that had been poorly stored and wouldnt shift any longer. I dropped in and got immediate attention and adjustment of the gears, the breaks, and a few other little items and paid $20. Super friendly and down to earth. Worst attitude in a bike shop I have ever seen. Short mechanic was pushy from the minute I walked in the door. Wouldn't stop harassing me until he erupted in a fit of rage and threw me out. They have tons of bikes that look as if they have pulled from a dumpster and yet are somehow worth more than $100?! Unsure how this place stays in business. There's a plethora of different sounds & people working in a beautiful chaos that results in a down to earth bike shop that always provides for the customer. They're a non profit bike shop, meaning that every bike they have for sale is a donated bike from someone in the community & 95%+ of their staff is volunteer based. You're almost always guaranteed to learn something new before you leave too. This allows them to fix & sell bikes at a reasonable price that truly anyone can afford. The staff couldn't be nicer - Forrest spent over an hour helping me pick out a bike and suggesting frames that specifically fit my body. I have long legs and a short torso, and he helped me find a bike that fit me nicely. He was so friendly and helpful! With Forrest's help, I found a wonderful bike here for only $200 - which included a full tune up! I was looking for a commuter bike that would be less likely to get stolen, and I feel like I got something that rides great! The place refurbishes donated bikes and sells them at very reasonable prices. They are willing to swap out any parts on the bike to meet your preferences, from seats to pedals and handlebars. If you want a brand new, top-of-the-line bike, this might not be your place. But, if you're looking for a solid used bike, it's wonderful. Shopping there was a much more efficient and pleasant experience compared to meeting up with individual people on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. Plus - the prices are cheaper than most of what I saw on those other individual seller sites, and Community Bikes will fix up your bike to be in solid working order. read more

I just bought a bike for my first year of college from here and I could not be any happier! The bike is perfect! The men who helped me get this bike were so kind and helpful. They made sure the bike fit my needs and likes. For example, they changed my handles because it was too far away for me to grab. They put in new pedals and a more comfortable seat. When i tried the bike after they finished working on it, i noticed the seat was still too tall for me and they eagerly tried to fix the problem for me. I was dropping off a very used kids bike that could have gone straight to the recycle bin, and they were happy to take it. The bike was at one point either from Costco, Walmart or ToysRus low end..I really didn't think they would take it, an anchor with wheels covered in rust, but maybe the pedals, cranks and seat could be re-used and recycle the rest. They seemed happy to take it. I'll bring in some tires and seats that I have lying around the garage, cause I don't mind going out of my way for a good cause, especially when bicycles are involved. I was strapped for time, and wanted to check the old school refurbished bikes, but I probably would have brought one home, and my wife would have killed me. I recommend checking this place out. I brought my e kick scooter in because of a stripped screw on the rear wheel ...(I was trying to replace the flat tire myself). The staff was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and skilled. Though it was difficult to take off the stripped frozen screw, they didn't give up until it was removed. They changed the tire for me as well. The labor & repair cost was reasonable and worth it! Do not bring your bike here if you need help with repairs. Yes, this is a non profit and they have many used parts and bikes. But if you need to install something, you will walk away with a bike more broken than when you brought it in. I would have been better off playing around with my bike rather than paying 10 bucks an hour to have someone help me to then have them do additional damage to my bike. The staff don't know bikes. I went into community bikes with a friend to make a donation. I am also interested in purchasing a bike for myself. The nicest man named Forest helped me pick out several bikes that would be comfortable for me to ride. I'm going back int 2 weeks to purchase one of those bikes and I'm super excited about it. let me just start off by saying everything, everything you heard about this place is true, the moment I walked in I was greeted by the most Pleasant of smiles I was quoted a very reasonable quote much lower than other places that I called and when it was all said and done the final total is actually under the original quote I know that doesn't happen very often in this County anymore I'm so glad that my friend Leah Thomas told me about this place because I would have never thought of going.. My family and I came in here a couple weeks ago to donate two bikes. I was under the impression that community bikes restores bikes/uses parts, etc and doles them out to those in need (whether free or inexpensively I don't know). So my husband and I were very happy to go out of our way to make this donation. We get there and my husband walks in only to be completely ignored by everyone in the place except for Howard. Howard is an awesome guy who was clearly busy but offered to help my husband because obviously nobody else was going to. He was so friendly, nice and helpful. Howard made us feel very appreciated for giving a donation. So Howard, thank you for that, I'd give you and your customer service 4 starts easily. Here's where things go very wrong and why I give one star. I'm hoping someone reads this and takes action. Just as we are about to leave Howard offers us a receipt. Sure, why not, it's a tax write off. In hindsight I wish I would have declined so I could have walked away with a warm and fuzzy feeling. As Howard is searching for a receipt one of the men who ignored my husband at first starts really laying into Howard. Absolutely berating him right in front of me, my husband and our son. Yelling how he is never, ever to help a customer again(say what?!?!? The friendliest guy there not help??). It was so grossly inappropriate, I was shocked, I thought it was a joke (hidden camera show maybe???) but no, sadly this man (thin, greying hair, stonerish look to him) was completely serious. I left with a sour taste in my mouth and am still feeling very sorry for Howard. Listen community bikes, never ever berate an employee in front of customers. If Howard had made some sort of mistake then you take him aside and privately discuss it, calmly, rationally. read more

Knowledgeable and *mostly* friendly volunteers supporting the local community and those who cannot afford the unrealistic bike shop prices or understand how to do it themselves. Anyone expecting to come here and throw money around and be pandered to should go somewhere else. This is a place with a mechanic's garage vibe. They fix bikes and sell used parts. Plain and simple.There are literally bins upon bins of parts, each bin labeled with its contents. If you are looking for a ton of variety and cheap prices, this is the place to go. If you have questions about bike problems, ask them but don't be surprised if they are still working on a bike while talking to you. These guys are doing what they love to do: work on bikes. Got a nice racing bike in good shape here for a fraction of what it goes for on the market. People there were happy to answer any of the questions I or my family had during our stay of well over an hour ( my wife also bought a bike at this time). I even had a small issue with the bike after riding it ( just something loose on the brake) that I took in and they fixed it on the spot after telling them I bought it there. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for a used bike. I'm sure some of these negative reviews here were just one of those random off days or experiences that happen in any life of a business. read more

Mission of their business: Taking used bikes & gear and refurbishing them for re-use. A worthwhile mission which I favor. I've donated to them. There is another store similar to this in the County just south: San Rafael, Marin County. But they are not affiliated with one another. Facility: OLD & basic. Hours: part time. Inside: cluttered but with purpose. Staff: I only met one fellow who was accepting my donation of my old but trustworthy Japanese bike. He was surprisingly knowledgable and friendly. I believe he was a volunteer there. Bike parking outside: DON'T DO IT. There is parking outside for cars and bikes, but the area is home to lots of bicycle thieves. If you must leave your bike, use a U-lock. Or, if driving, lock your car. Donations: I believe they also accept used inner tubes. After all, their mission is to keep the entire concept of bikes rolling... for pleasure or sport or commute while keeping used equipment running to its maximum life span. read more

I've donated bikes several times now, ones that I have stopped riding and have been collecting dust. Today it was 2 Dahon folders. I have always had great conversations with someone there. Announce what you are there for when you walk in the door! We raffle them off and our underprivileged students get a gently used and totally refurbished bike for a $1.00. Such a great local resource! I stumbled onto Community Bikes while checking out the Joe Rodota Trail, after recently moving to the area. Staffed by volunteers, this shop will teach you something invaluable: self-sufficiency. John was kind enough to walk me through a tune-up of my old bike that had gone unridden for years. He checked in frequently, as did several of the other folks working that day. The mood is very friendly and unpretentious, and everyone is welcome - no matter what kind of bike you ride. You can also pick up a used bike here, as well as accessories. Come in and lend your support, which you can also do by volunteering to teach others the fine art of bike repair and helping at the shop. read more

These guys are great! They take old bikes, throw-aways and junk and turn them into rideable bikes. If you're not a cyclist, and you just want a bike to ride occasionally or you need a bike part, this is the place. The prices are right out of Craig's List, but the shopping is easier. The guys that work on the bikes are volunteers who just love bikes and it shows in their rebuilt bikes.
