Throughout the entire ride, James was constantly checking in to make sure we were doing okay, enjoying ourselves, and taking in the experience. The e-bikes were a blast to ride, but honestly, a huge part of what made the afternoon so enjoyable was the time we spent talking and getting to know James. James has an incredible wealth of knowledge about the Napa wine industry, and he was able to share so much interesting information along the way. But what really stood out was that his knowledge went far beyond wine. He was genuinely interesting to talk to, incredibly personable, and clearly someone who has a lot of experience and perspective on life. While we have used different outfits lately - we had a great experience with Russian River Adventures a few years back, so we came in excited to return. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing, mainly due to poor planning by the staff. We booked for four people on a Thursday - my wife, myself, and our two teens (14 and 16)--with the expectation that we'd have two boats, which is standard for this group size. However, the team miscounted the boats that morning. When we pointed this out, instead of fixing the mistake, they pulled us aside and crammed all four of us into a boat intended for three, squeezing in an extra seat to make it "fit." Visibly frustrated, the team promised to speak with the owner and make it right (it was two high schoolers running it that day). I didn't argue and wanted to at least try to have a good time and not be that Dad. The result on the boat? A very cramped and uncomfortable setup that made the inflatable much harder to steer and navigate--especially on a 9-mile river trip. This wasn't the experience we paid for or expected based on our prior trips. The staff seemed more focused on moving us along rather than making it right. Still haven't heard from the owner. We'll likely explore other options next time around. Disappointed to see the service slip like this.

Then was lectured about not using the test ride as a way to use the bike as a free day rental. The gentleman had an obstructionist attitude, throwing obstacles in the way of my simple goal of seeing what bike size best fit me. I've never been treated so poorly by a business. After suffering this, I stopped everything. Canceled the test ride. Put down the tail bag purchase. I told the 2 employees what I saw happening and how I wasn't going to tolerate it. Walked out and wished them a great rest of the day. The attitude towards my business and myself was appalling. I ended up buying a bike elsewhere.

We observed cranes and fish nibbling at surface snacks. In the distance, you can see Mount Tam and a bit closer--the Brazos railroad bridge. While there is much to see and do in Napa, this experience at the end of our trip was a definite highlight.

I ended up purchasing from them and am quite happy with my new bike and their customer service. They also rent eBikes here and have suggestions for nice country paths to take originating from their shop, up to varies wineries. I plan on taking my new bike on some of these paths sometime. Revel is not just a bike shop but they also do repairs and tune ups, and sell various accessories such as locks and Camelback Podium water bottles, etc. They're friendly and accommodating here and I dig the location in The Barlow shopping district, which is really nice.

While I've gotten lucky and found some gems in the past, this last time I struck out. I was looking for golf polos specifically and the selection was limited to a single rack with just a couple of standard options. The same shirt I saw at the clearance store in San Leandro for $19.99 was $39.99 here. The shoe and apparel selection was pretty mid this time around. The difference between a factory store and clearance is that the factory store will run more weekly flash sales. So depending on the flash sale that week, you'll be able to get some good deals from time to time. Other than that, the discounts are similar to what I'd find through the Nike app.
