A girlfriend had stayed over Saturday night and when woke up Sunday morning and saw how beautiful it was I said "let's go for a bike ride today!. She didn't have her bike and we didn't have time to go shopping so I called around the bay area to see who had the bike I wanted in stock and would deliver it that same day. After calling a number of other shops closer to me who wouldn't deliver that same day, I finally called NorCal. Sam helped me out and we found the exact bike I wanted. I placed the order and a few hours later a new bike arrived. It was perfect! What a fantastic experience. I highly recommend this bike shop.

I had a tune-up recently and was charged an arm and a leg and my bike ended up worse than when it went in. On top of that, the shop lost a frame bolt, which made it unsafe to ride. They told me they'd reimburse me if I purchased the part, but once I did, they said they couldn't reimburse me. So I spent more money to fix their mistake. Again, I used to love this place, but I won't be a returning customer.

Roscoe 7 Gen 4 in a cool Army olive green color as a bonus. It actually fit my short little legs being a small size with 27.5 inch wheels. When I came back with my bike rack and my wife, she had questions for Matt regarding an electric cruiser. He directed her to an Electra Townie, with a paint scheme that looked like the clouds at sunset in Hawaii (she's Hawaiian). This bike checked all the boxes for her as well. He was able to answer her many questions and give her some pointers from first hand experience. He and his wife own the same bike. I also saw them at the Boggs Mt. Enduro last month, plus we talked about Santa Barbara, Tahoe and Downieville trips, so they are operating all over CA. They have a huge Sprinter van that seats 12, with room for all the bikes, some inside and some on outside racks. Just about time to plant the next outing...maybe Oregon?

On a recent Saturday morning, my wife and I joined a small group of others in an archery class at Backroom Archery-Turra's. We entered through the retail shop, where that was filled with all kinds of archery paraphernalia that I had no idea about, and we were escorted through a back door to a big room-- the range. Our husband and wife team provided safety information and then handed out bows. They worked step by step to help us learn body positions with the bow that would help us become successful archers. Then we practiced launching some 8 arrows down towards the targets. Many of our arrows missed their target-- some sliding down the floor and others striking the thick padded blanket at the end of the room. After each volley (?) of arrows, they would go over another new technique to refine our posture, and each time our accuracy improved. By the end of our class, they had us pin a balloon to the target. I'm still impressed that I was able to pop the balloon two separate times (when the range was clear, we would all walk down the range and collect our arrows and get set for the next round). It was a fun way to spend the morning and for me, quite satisfying. I now have a lot of respect for those Olympic archers-- and Katniss Everdeen. My only suggestion is to wear long sleeves if it's a cool morning. The range room is a big space with a concrete floor and was a little cool. I've recommended the experience to friends and look forward to returning someday-- will be a great activity on a rainy day.

My sister and I decided to rent bikes with Napa Valley Bike Tours, and I am so glad that we did. Mackenzie, Kelly, and the other ladies we met upon arriving to the shop greeted us with so much enthusiasm and kindness! Before we even stepped foot into the shop, our bikes were already conveniently sitting outside the shop, ready to go. Everything is so well organized from the tools they provide (i.e. Storage bag on the bike, water bottle holder, bike map) to the instructions they give. Mackenzie gave us the run-down on which trails and Wineries we might want to visit during our ride which we appreciated greatly. The views and the vibes you get while biking on the scenic trail along Dry Creek Road are so worth it. I would highly recommend booking with NVBT as you will not regret it. Pro tip: For an even better ride, I would recommend adding a gel seat for $5 more if you plan to rent a comfort cruiser, especially if you are 200+ lbs. ;)

Kenwood footrace is a local legend; well know by Sonoma County residents for the hometown…read moreexperience and ranks in my opinion, as one of the toughest 10k courses I've experience in my 20 years of running 10Ks to marathon courses. The first 3 miles of the race consist of some steady climbing which is a breeze for anyone who typically runs the hills and trails in Annadel state park or the Petaluma back roads. What goes up, must come down. The second part of the race has a slight climb as you make your way into the private vineyard estate which is thanks to the relationship of the race organizers, Empire runners, with the Kenwood community; runners will meander through beautiful scenery through private properties. Race participants should plan for sun protection (sunscreen, hat, water) as the course also does not have many shady spots and you can generally count on the fog burning off and full sunshine well before gun time. Because this race is organized and put on by runners, you can expect clearly marked courses, a few water stops, friendly course volunteers and well organized event.

It scrolls through country roads in Kenwood behind Annadel on Lawndale road and the last stretch is through private property as you run your heart out through the dusty trails and vineyards. Kenwood is not for the faint of heart. It's hilly, it's beautiful, it's mostly road and it's usually hot since it is in Kenwood. The last couple years the weather has played nicely and offered cool climates for the early start time to help beat the heat. Hills are no worse than if you are a local runner who runs Fountaingrove parkway or up in Annadel. You got this if you can take on those hills without missing a beat. Empire runners puts on the race; local organization for gazelle like runners. I'm too much of a turtle in running speed to join; but this is one race that has begrudgingly become a fun tradition with friends and great way to start the festivities.

The track and cars are well maintained. There is a good selection of helmets. There is a training video and individual instruction if, like me, this is your first time visiting. The staff the day I was there were exceptionally bad. I walked up to on young lady explained we had a reservations and she directed me to the other end of the desk to another young lady. Waited for 15 minutes or so for another group to get through who was having issues only to be told we just needed to use the kiosks to register and sign the waivers, why couldn't the first staff member tell me this I don't know. I did explain that we had one minor with us and he was already added to my registration but should be on his mothers. I was told it was no problem don't worry about it. once we got to the axe throwing we were then called back an told we had two people that didn't have waivers signed, myself and the minor, they did not tell me who until I was back at the desk causing us to go back and forth figuring it out for them even though they had the names. Turns out I did have my waiver signed and the minor with us that "didn't have a signed waiver" was the one registered under me who this same staff member told me not to worry about because he was registered and had his waiver under his mother. We finally get started and as mentioned above targets are difficult to see leaving us with only one or two games we could realistically play, a little light blocking and/or light paint on the boards would go a long way. in the middle of our time there another staff member needed to get across us to grab a remote for the projectors, then instead of working on the projector he was supposed to he shut ours off and the app on the ipad controlling it no longer was working. I would also like to mention this place was not packed at the time only two of the lanes were currently being used and maybe one group racing. I got some drinks from the concession stand and the cola tasted like raspberry or strawberry had been mixed in, so either they didn't clean it right or something was hooked up wrong. we paid over a $100.00 for 1 hour and unacceptable staff competence. I wanted to give this at least a 3 because the axe throwing setup is honestly the best I've seen near by but it doesn't matter if I can't see the targets or get to use the facility because of bad staffing.
