In total, 15 landowners granted easements that allowed the construction of this section of the Vine Trail. The resulting route winding through these private parcels offers an unmatched "biking through the vineyards" experience. It really should be on every wine country visitor's must-do list! Along the 8-mile stretch, you'll pass more than 25 wineries including Napa Valley's famous "Castle Winery," Castello di Amoroso, and Sterling Vineyards, known for its aerial gondola. The trail also detours through Bothe State Park, where you might be tempted to stop and park your bikes (locks provided) to explore the trails on foot for a bit. Bicyclists who make the full journey to Calistoga (8 miles) will be rewarded with charming local shops, cafes, tasting rooms and restaurants to explore. There's no shortage of delectable fuel for your return ride back to St. Helena.

My sister and I decided to rent bikes with Napa Valley Bike Tours, and I am so glad that we did. Mackenzie, Kelly, and the other ladies we met upon arriving to the shop greeted us with so much enthusiasm and kindness! Before we even stepped foot into the shop, our bikes were already conveniently sitting outside the shop, ready to go. Everything is so well organized from the tools they provide (i.e. Storage bag on the bike, water bottle holder, bike map) to the instructions they give. Mackenzie gave us the run-down on which trails and Wineries we might want to visit during our ride which we appreciated greatly. The views and the vibes you get while biking on the scenic trail along Dry Creek Road are so worth it. I would highly recommend booking with NVBT as you will not regret it. Pro tip: For an even better ride, I would recommend adding a gel seat for $5 more if you plan to rent a comfort cruiser, especially if you are 200+ lbs. ;)

Then was lectured about not using the test ride as a way to use the bike as a free day rental. The gentleman had an obstructionist attitude, throwing obstacles in the way of my simple goal of seeing what bike size best fit me. I've never been treated so poorly by a business. After suffering this, I stopped everything. Canceled the test ride. Put down the tail bag purchase. I told the 2 employees what I saw happening and how I wasn't going to tolerate it. Walked out and wished them a great rest of the day. The attitude towards my business and myself was appalling. I ended up buying a bike elsewhere.

(There are a few hills around the area.) * Clean, new helmets, and get this - with Bluetooth intercoms so the entire group can chat together. Very nifty! Communication: * Chris and team were very responsive, communicative, and accomodating from the time we booked up until we finished our tour. A++ Route and tour info: * Chris is a great ride leader and goes at a pace that accomodates the group. He's a great conversationalist to chop it up with, and is really knowledgeable about wine and wine history, the local history of Healdsburg + Sonoma + Napa, and more. * The route we took was mostly on separated bike paths or small roads with very little to no car traffic. He clearly let us know in advance if we would be on very short stretches of roads that had more cars or a narrow shoulder. Nervous bikers fear not, you're in good hands. Wineries: * I believe the winery choice varies between tours, but Chris picked fantastic, local, small business type wineries with great service and friendly folks. If you have specific preferences for varietals, let Chris know and I'm sure he'll be able to accomodate. Lunch: * The tour includes a fantastic sandwich and some kettle chips per person. "Sandwich" undersells it - this is a massive, flavorful, high-quality sandwich stuffed to the gills with great ingredients that is honestly probably 1.5-2 meals for many people. I ended up purchasing from them and am quite happy with my new bike and their customer service. They also rent eBikes here and have suggestions for nice country paths to take originating from their shop, up to varies wineries. I plan on taking my new bike on some of these paths sometime. Revel is not just a bike shop but they also do repairs and tune ups, and sell various accessories such as locks and Camelback Podium water bottles, etc. They're friendly and accommodating here and I dig the location in The Barlow shopping district, which is really nice.

There are not enough stars for this review!…read more Every bit of this outfit is outstanding. The staff is friendly, informative and patient. The equipment is ideal for the area, with plenty off choices for more intense rides. The options for "trails" are urban for the local area, and north and south for the Wineries. We had a package deal that has a guide for the first day and on our own for the second day. Our guide, Taylor, was way cool. A local farmer/roadie/ San Fran local, with keen intel on the farming/bio-dynmic/ foodie/ family history. He clearly has a great history and relationship with the folks we stopped at and every bit was personable and flexible. He had an excellent read on the strength and weakness of the group. Overall, we did a gentle 20 miles on cushie bikes and drank a touch more wine then is good for willfully concurring the hills. We had a group of 6 and took a north loop that peaked at Quivira with the most spectacular bio-dynamic gardens. I mean bees, pigs, chickens and just the coolest raised beds I have ever seen. Seriously, I could happily retire and intern here. Our second day, was on our own on the southern route, me thinks just about 23 miles. My Aunt made it to Porter Creek (not on purpose) but I peaked at Thomas George Estate. We followed recommendations and lunched at Arista. Worthy!!! This is another heaven on Earth spot. It is not over rated. My only small complaint, on the second day (far beyond the control of the good folks at Wine County Bikes was the aggressive construction truck drivers. Mind you...there is a consistent "you're going to get hurt bad if you come off the road" with no clear bike lane. With that said the greater majority of cars, albeit fast, are very good about dealing with "tourist bike riders". Highly recommended!!!!!!
