The staff is so knowledgeable. I called ahead of time to make an appointment for a watch battery replacement and to have them look at some jewelry I was interested in selling. They actually gave me more than I thought it would be worth after the owner Louis and I talked for around 20 minutes, while he told me some fascinating information on the stuff I brought in. St John & Myers is a wonderful place to treat yourself, or leave a list for your significant other of gift ideas they can't get wrong with. I went just to grab a fun pair of earrings for a night out with my hubby and ended up walking out with the most chic necklace and hip pair of matching earings. Although at the moment I had no intention of spoiling myself, a helpful woman noticed what styles I appreciated and showed me the necklace I couldn't do without. After trying it on, she made a note in their system of other items I love, so that my husband could easily walk in, review the list and actually get me something I don't want to trade. LOL On a second note, I have found several stellar items for my husband, which are not available at most retailers. Amazing. I wanted my engagement ring to be from an estate jeweler, because I really love the look and history of vintage jewelry. At St. John and Myers, the selection was impeccable. I probably had at least 15 rings in my price point (which is under 1,000) to choose from. This didn't even matter, because the 3rd ring they suggested for me blew me away and I was sold. Not only do they have a gigantic selection that is reasonably priced, they are very personable and lovely to speak with. I dealt with both of the owners, Louis and Olivia, and have never felt more comfortable. I probably stayed for about an hour longer than expected just to talk and joke around with them. Louis was a great wealth of information in regards to some antique buttons we inherited many years ago. He was able to identify the gems, the time period, and helped us with information regarding historical elements as the jewels were believed to have belonged to royalty. His findings match up with a second opinion we got from a renowned gemologist in London, so we feel very confident in his appraisal. I was completely unimpressed by this store so I can't recommend it at all. We went here because they sell estate jewelry, and since I was not looking for a traditional wedding band and engagement ring combo, but a gemstone ring that would be worn as my wedding ring, we thought we might find something interesting here. The salesman actually let his mouth hang open in astonishment and blinked several times before he would tell me if they had anything I might like. I told him that the stone I wanted had a symbolic meaning to me so my choice was a personal one, and he simply could not comprehend it. He then made a few jokes over his shoulder to the manager that everyone in the store could hear each time I made an observation about the rings he showed me. Since he was showing me only two rings and each was over $1000, I surmised that he didn't care whether he sold them to me or not. I leaned over to my fiancé and said that if both these rings together were $100 I would not want him to give this man his money. We thanked him and as we were leaving, he told us to be sure to review the shop online, and then proceeded to tell us just exactly what we should say. I went in to St. John and Myers to sell jewelry that had belonged to my father and stepmother who have both passed away years ago. My immediate family has been going through a difficult time the last few months. My husband was recently in the hospital and he has to return for a scheduled bypass surgery. My middle daughter and her husband are expecting their first child. My daughter cannot take her daily medication for an existing condition because it can harm the baby. I thought that by selling the jewelry, it would take a bit of pressure financially, off my family at this difficult time. I left the showroom on 1/25/17 at 4:45 PM. At 10:00 AM the next morning (1/26/17) I called the store and spoke to Ethan and said I made a mistake and that I wanted to please get the jewelry back. The jewelry was the last connection I had to my father and stepmother. I was literally sick over it the entire night before. I have since called the store more than a dozen times asking when I can pick up my jewelry. All I was ever told when I called and spoke to Louis or his staff were contradicting stories, excuses and stall tactics. I sold the owner close to 30 pieces of jewelry. A few diamond rings, earrings, bracelets, and some items that would be used for scrap gold. It is now more than one week since I have begged for my merchandise back. I have not received one piece of jewelry back and I have not cashed the check they have given me either. Clearly, Louis Scholz, the owner and the person I did my transaction with felt that the profit he would make on my jewelry was all that mattered. My advice to you is if you are looking for a place to either buy or sell jewelry, run as fast as you can away from St. John and Myers. My story will not end here. I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the District Attorney's Office, and the Attorney General's office . My hope is that no one else has to go through the heartache that I am currently going through. read more
