I find the people in the congregation very friendly, I find their events very friendly and I find the entire focus of the parish to be on the people, having fun and of course on creating/keeping a personal relationship with God. I do not get there very often because I live in downtown DC - but every time I go, I like it more. The priest is very friendly and easy to talk to. He speaks about the Bible in normal terms, using language that is immediately understandable. The events are full of people - normal people who are interested in getting to know new people. There is no stand-offish-ness here that I experienced. I volunteered for one of the Greek Fest dinners and I was taken in with open arms. This past weekend, I went to a craft fair in the hall and I found more of the same. Friendliness, big crowds and the realization that the church community lives in contemporary times, with busy people who have busy schedules and who have lives in a diverse world. I really am happy that I found this church. I look forward to moving out to this area in the next year or so - I will become a regular parishoner at Sts. Constantine & Helen once I live nearby!

The people in the church were so warm and welcoming. The Father came by and personally sought out the organizers to thank them for their efforts on behalf of the children. I could see the emotion on everyone's face. It was great to work with people who cared about our cause as much as we did.

I had a great worship experience to Zion this morning. This was my first time attending one of…read moretheir worship services. The dress is very casual. Services are a 8am, 9:30am and 11am. I felt a little rushed and wanted more time. Zion is modern; they leverages technology - web casts, announcement videos, etc. Praise and worship music is contemporary. Pastor Keith Battle delivered a powerful bible-based message. I found him relatable with a solid teaching style. I left with a page full of notes.

I could tell they were not trying to say "Jesus" or "God" or read directly from God's Inerrant Word too much because they weren't trying to scare off anyone who is unchurched and might be converted. Quite frankly, as a born-and-raised Methodist, I was slightly put-off by this 'loosey-goosey' church service. They never read the scripture lesson. It wasn't even listed on the bulletin, although some scripture references were flashed on the jumbo-tron during the 'message' (which was given by Pastor Marshall, a really young, hip fellow who appeared on stage after a long darkness, and just started talking about stress). They never had a responsive reading ***of the Bible***. They didn't play any standard-bearer religious music that lets you know you are in a hallowed place, the Lord's holy temple v(like the _Gloria Patri_ or the _Doxology_). For all I knew, I was at a concert. Especially with the Robin Thicke/Justin Timberlake look-alike fellow onstage belting out quasi inspirational ballads. But they did take up an offering. :-) But that is what I get and must accept during my summer of visiting around services. Church lite. Ha ha. We'll see what I get next Sunday.

The worship is ok but is more like a performance than going before the throne. The teaching was basic without much depth. It's a big church to get lost in. I'm sure there are some wonderful people there but it would take quite awhile to find them and we are just ready to jump in somewhere and be about our Father's business.

The only reason I don't go there…read moreregularly is that I belong to another church for 4 years now and I am usually at work when New Leaf's service begins at 4:15 on Sunday afternoons. However, yesterday, my church's power was out due to Hurricane Irene and so was my job's(Amen!) so I went to New Leaf. Here's what I love about New Leaf. It is very comfortable. I know- comfy-ness might not be the first thing a person thinks of, or searches for, when looking for a church, but that's what I feel there. I feel comfy. The people are young-ish(20's, 30's, a couple of 40's and a few older), the room is comfy(they use space in an Episcopal church) and it seems more of a setting for a band's practice space or someone's living room than it does a church. People are dressed casually and they worship freely and quite musically- which I love! The pastor is a very nice regular kind of guy. Everyone seems very down to earth and they are friendly and open. The church is new and kind of small and I think that's one of the things I like about it, although there's something about them that makes it seem like they could grow to be huge, if not in a numbers way than in an impact on the community kind of way. I have been there twice now when there are quest speakers and yesterday's were wonderful. I wish that the message they delivered could have been broadcast on CNN. So, if you're looking for a new church that is out in the community- part of the community, feels like it's going forward, focuses on God's love and ROCKS, this might be the church for you!
