I've been waiting here for hours. I had a better chance heading to the Paterson location tbh. 3 hours already, man.

First of all this place is very old and out dated. I have been sitting for 6 hours in the ER. Had a shift change and never offered water and just took an aleve from my own purse. They are short on doc and nurses and you can hear the staff complain about it while you are here. The poor patient next to me called for a nurse for a half hour before my husband went to get one so he could use a bedpan. The ultrasound and X-ray ladies were very nice but this place is a nightmare. The X-ray was broke and so was the tube system they use to send samples to the lab. Don't even know if a doc saw the test results. Just had the nurse come in and tell me there were no issues. If possible avoid St Joseph's in Wayne read more

My mother had worked for St. Joseph's at the Willowbrook for approximately 23 years. Trusting the facility she worked for, she had hip replacement surgery at St. Joseph's in Wayne, NJ back in 2010. She was VERY pleased with her care during this time. Ten years later, on Feb. 9th; she went in for a large (11mm) kidney stone. The ER was prompt in her care and quickly got her into a room on the 4th floor. The care diminished from this point forward. I might add that she has been a volunteer FAS member for over 40 years. She is well aware of medical care, procedures, and protocol. During this stay, she often times had to wait 40+ minutes for pain meds and bathroom calls (since she required assistance). Bed pans were left, by the staff, on bathroom sinks and urine was spilled on the garbage can in the bathroom and never cleaned up! There was a nurse, Pablito, that was yelling in my mother's face as if she had dementia when all she was asking was if she could have her BP meds (186/92) that her doctor said she could resume taking. She could have had a stroke! I only wish I was there to witness this behavior. This hospital has deteriorated over the past decade with quality of care and cleanliness. Not to say that ALL of the staff is derelict in their duties, of course not but, the over all evaluation is that she will NEVER go to this hospital AGAIN! It will be Hackensack or Morristown but, NEVER AGAIN St. Joseph's so long as I have any say in her care! read more

My father went to the ER on New Years Eve because he fell outside of church. He missed the last step and fell. I realize it was NYE and you're not going to have a top notch staff available. They immediately told him they thought he had a stroke. When they did the stroke test and got to his right leg, he was unable to sustain it for 5 seconds. They did a CT and it did not show signs of a stroke. His knee was completely swollen. An X-ray showed no break or fracture. They went forth and treated like a stroke even though there were no signs of a stroke at all. He couldn't hold his leg up, but his knee also measured 19 inches around. He agreed to take the stroke Medication, which came with risks. Not long after it was administered, his blood pressure dropped drastically and my mother was convinced he was going to die in front of her. Fortunately they were able to get his blood pressure where it needed to be. He was checked consistently for the next 24 hours for a stroke. They were told over and over that a Orthopedic surgeon would be by to see him. That didn't happen until 2 days later. Ortho immediately knew he needed surgery. While that was going on, they were continuing to test (CT, x Ray) for signs of a stroke. Ultimately, and several days wasted, they decided no stroke. Of course that is great news but days were wasted and lots of unnecessary worry was brought on. He finally had surgery 3 days after he came in. Now we are in a battle trying to get him out of there. He is going to a subacute facility and there seems to be no sense of urgency from the staff responsible for facilitating the move. All that said, the nurses and surgeon that have been caring for my dad for the last week have been really great. That's what the one star is for. Their systems clearly suck. A stroke misdiagnosis is bad enough but now it's like he's being held captive. Never again. read more

Recently my family and I had the misfortune of having a close member of the family admitted to this facility. I felt compelled to write a review because when friends had heard the hospital my mother was in, they did not have good things to say about the facility. I, being a nurse, have a strong opinion on the care my mother received here. From the ER through the senior care unit and on to the hospice unit, my mother received nothing but compassionate, professional care. My family and I were very pleased with the staff both nursing and ancillary. I'd like to especially mention Rosela and Violetta. If you have an emergency, the last place to go is their ER. The nurse was slow, inattentive and a bit rude. If you're there because of a pain do bad you can't walk or stand - someone should pay attention. After it's all said and done, the bills are outrageous. Although covered under insurance, they fought the overbilling by the doctor ($500/hr) and hospital ($125 for aspirins). I'm not sure the rest are any better, but I'm not going back here read more

This hospital employs sub par doctors. Tanuja Damani acts very cocky and canceled my major surgery twice. The second time was the day before. Podiatric surgeon Bruce Calligaro is an unskilled surgeon who does not handle crises well. Cardiologist Rex Ghassemi is frequently late and thinks his endless apologies and excuses mean something. Their nurses are very unprofessional. Lucille was incredibly rude to me for no reason. Karen in cardiac catheterization is incompetent. She knows nothing about HIPAA consent forms and makes no effort to learn. The nurse receptionist in that department did not communicate effectively. Her grammar was atrocious. She kept repeating "I can't tell you nothing". She was very mistaken because the appropriate consent forms had been signed. I encountered only two competent people at this hospital. One was a nun and the other was a volunteer. read more

Most horrifying experience. Everything is very old at the 4th floor. Bathroom door was jamming and made lots of noise. The air-condition broke in the room on the accute respitatory floor!!! The patient in the next room all screaming all night ad day. Some of the staff were nice but others were not. No cafeteria or hot meal after 1:30om and they close all day on Saturday and Sunday. This was definitely was the last time I would go to this hospital. read more

This is my second visit to the University Imaging Clinic and the front desk staff is absolutely rude for no apparent reason. It's disgusting to find people working in the health care field with no customer service. read more

Worst hospital ever. Such a disgusting place to be in such a nice residence in Wayne, nj . The er is completlt unprofessional, arrived there when there was nobody in the er but me , they still made me wait 2 hours to go in when i was in great deal of pain, i had to call the headquarters and told them what was going on. I felt like i should have called the ambulance in order for them to take me in. When i got in i thought they were pretty busy or something, nothing like that it was a quiet time , a lot of bed was open , they just felt like making me wait.horrible dont go there! And avoid the one in Paterson too. read more

If you are in any serious medical condition and find yourself in this Hospital please come in he ER crying or in need of a wheel chair in order for them to check you at least in an hour. I was there with my sister who was sick and we waited an hours and 20 minutes to get called in and then waited 50 mins until we decided to leave because she could take the pain anymore. Most of the nurses have avery bad attitude and the afro american was not so nice. I know its hard dealing with sick desperate patients but I think you need to bare with them for the hours worked in there. This hospital gives a bad image to the one located in Clifton. Please do not go there or if you go prepare a drama roll. Take care everyone read more

Stay away from the 5 west if at all possible. Lots of improvements are needed to include patient nurse ratio is less then adequate.

re: University imaging of st joes DO NOT - I REPEAT- DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE FOR ANYTHING. my daughter had to get a catheter for urine sample and I cant tell you how much my heart broke seeing her in pain like that. The doctor had the worst bed side manners. I held her for hours apologizing and I still get heart broken thinking about it. DONT GO, there are alternatives! read more

This Hospital is sooo beautiful! Its very clean, warm and inviting. From the moment you set foot in the door, you are helped by the staff. Jesus worked with my mother and I and was such a gentlemen. He was very caring, knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. No body wants to be in a hospital, but if I had to pick one, this would be my #1 choice. read more

So far the experience had been ok emerged in ER got called right in and took me back right after triage. Drawbacks the patient has to pay for TV and then channels are limited. Can't get phone charger out of my vehicle and they won't send anyone down to get it. Could have used tablet on free wifi but can't get it either. read more

Worst hospital ever. What's the point of an Emergency Room if they don't treat it like it's an emergency? We have been here since 5pm (9:20pm now) and still not admitted despite my mother vomiting in the bathroom continuously. On top of that they called for the next person and there was no response since they didn't wait. One would think they'd call the next person but it's been about 2 hours now and they still haven't filled the room. There's additionally a two-year old girl with a 105 fever whose been here for over two hours now. read more

In my unexpected hospital stay, I was very pleased with the way I was treated. I received medical attention fast & all the nurses were pleasant. When I needed help, it was also quick. Food was good & overall the room was clean. My guests were also treated well. I was very apprehended when I learned i had to be admitted because it was the first time I was ever admitted to a hospital but I can honestly say the stay was very pleasant. read more

This hospital is the absolute worst! My 85 year old grandmother broke her hip and fractured her femur on Monday night. The paramedics brought her to this hospital instead of Paterson. Huge mistake! She is in so much pain and the meds they are giving her are not working. We were told on Tuesday night they would be operating late that night or early the next day. It's now Thursday evening and they still haven't brought her to the OR. They keep making excuses saying they only have 2 operating rooms and they have to put emergency cases first. Isn't an old woman with a broken hip and severe pain an Emergency!!!! WTF?? In the meantime she hasn't eaten or had anything to drink because they are keeping her on call for an OR. She's dehydrated and crying in pain! We want to transfer her to Paterson , but they wont help us do that. This hospital is horrible! Do yourself a favor and stay away!!! My review is regarding Kindred on the top floor. This place is not rehab place but rather a hospice location. The do not motivate anyone but the nursing staff to drain the last bit of insurance before patient becomes deceased. If your loved one is sick this place is the worst of place to bring them. They gave my family member expired medication. On Facebook they have five stars because staff puts fake reviews. Kindred at this location is H E double hockey sticks. Once you're in they don't let you leave until your insurance company denies coverage otherwise you're stuck till you die. read more

On March 7, 2018 my handicapped brother was a patient in the ER during the nor'easters snow storm. He arrived via ambulance. The 2 doctors in the ER were absolutely wonderful. They were compassionate and understanding while dealing with my mom and brother. They made sure that I was prepared to keep them overnight during the storm. A big thank you to the transport/security guard who got my brother into my truck with all the snow accumulation. I appreciate what you did for me that day. Thank you! read more

My brother was diagnosed with gastritis. After taking the medication prescribed by St. Joseph Hospital my brother started vomiting blood. Once at the ER the triage nurse Joanny was extremely rude. The female who was taking my brothers information was nervous and called out to Joanny, Joanny responded with only because he is loud doesn't mean its an emergency. I proceeded to advise Joanny that this is the second time my brother has been in this ER in less than 24 hours and that his condition is worsening since he is now vomiting blood. Joanny finally took my brother in. We showed her the medication that was prescribed by St. Joseph Hospital ER and she asked why did they give you this? This medication is not for gastritis. Now after moving my brother from one room to another (because he was vomiting too loud) once inside I was unaware of who was going to be my brothers nurse. I asked a female who was seated who is my brothers nurse she advised me that his nurse was Alley. I walked around to see if I saw his nurse, Alley. Alley approached me and said I am getting his medication in a nasty tone of voice. I responded ok, but please do not speak to me in that tone I just want my brother to get medical attention. Alley proceeded to enter into the room my brother was placed and slammed all the medication on the counter walked out of the room stating, I am calling security. Alley placed a phone call to security and I asked to speak to the head nurse. The director (Amy) overhead my request and immediately approached me and apologized for Alleys' actions. Amy advised security they were not needed and everything was okay. Amy changed my brothers nurse to Kathleen. Kathleen was extremely professional and caring. After a few hours my brother was discharged for the second time in less than 24 hours. read more

My mom was a patient in the acute rehab and receive extraordinary care after her knee replacement. She had very caring nurses, doctors and therapists. She had a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend. read more

I have experienced the death's of two close family members in St. Joe's hospice. From the interview with the hospice intake person, Paola, to the caring and compassionate care by nurses, Val and Mary, I can only say our family could not have asked for, nor hoped for better care. It was a supportive atmosphere at a very trying time in our lives. I have great gratitude to St Joe's. read more

I had some complains with palpitations and had trouble breathing the night before while I was sleeping I also had edema in my face. I have a history of heart problems and did have heart surgery and have a pacemaker. The doctor spent 3 minutes with me and said that I should follow up with my primary care doctor. This was all he could do for me. I was surprised that he could tell all that from listening to my chest and not doing an EKG or blood work. read more

Brought my dad there 5 days ago. His doc is associated with it. No other knowledge but his doc is right here and it was an emergency. Visited primary care doc in office building connected to hospital and were advised to go to emergency room. We were brought in through the connecting hallways between the doc building and the hospital for ease of getting him there quickly in a wheelchair. Once inside it was quiet - strangely so. No one asked us if we needed help or direction and one person sent us the wrong way to get to the emergency room. Once we found the emergency room, there was NO ONE at either of the TWO ER reception desks. There was one poor soul waiting in the emergency room who vouched that someone had been there. (Why he was still waiting, hard to say, it was a ghost town). We waited around just a few minutes in panic. The woman came out and easily was in her early to mid 60s - had to be a joke. My brother and I left immediately and drove quickly to Valley hospital where both of our children were born and both myself and our mother has been treated enough times to know the hospital. My father was dehydrated, had pneumonia, was in moderate stage of renal failure, had low oxygen and was confused and could barely stand up. Within minutes, he was in the hallway at Valley Hospital ER being treated with oxygen, respiratory treatment and there were tons of people bustling around us, him, and working on many patients quite efficiently. He was put on IV fluids, antibiotic and then admitted and kept there for the next 5 days. Based on this experience with St. Joe's Wayne, I absolutely WOULD NOT EVER, EVER, E-V-E-R return to this hospital, and in fact am changing my dad's internist to one associated with Valley Hospital instead. If you can't count on the ER, what else does that say about the hospital???? read more
