They provide organic foods and products, as well as, use many locally sourced dairy, fruits, and vegetables when available. They feel strongly about decreasing our environmental foot print by keeping a vegetarian menu and building healthy eating habits for our little ones. Even though they are located in the city of Troy they also make sure the children get plenty of time outside to explore and appreciate this place with call home. A great day care for some, but not every child…read more My soon-to-be 3 year old is 90th percentile height and weight, physical, and has a communication barrier due to learning two languages at once. Fair to say, he is not a normal kid. But after a few weeks at Eco Baby, it became alarmingly apparent that the day care staff is not equipped to handle him. His aggressiveness had gotten to the point where other children feared to be around him. From our experience at home, with friends, and at other day cares, we do not find this extraordinary aggressiveness to be normal. When I asked if they were able to give him special attention, they said "We don't have enough people to do that". When I asked if they get him to the playground, they said "We don't go if we don't feel like we can get there safely". Their response instead was to document each instance of aggressive behavior. They never told me for what purpose -- I am paranoid that the documentation was more for their own liability, and an excuse for expulsion, than for my child's developmental sake. We withdrew immediately -- it is not fair to our own child or to everyone else's to keep him in an environment where the lack of control from the teachers results in pariah-status for my child at such a sensitive developmental time. If you are a parent of a non-aggressive toddler, you might think that my child is beyond the average for aggressive, or that maybe we are somehow bad or violent parents. But if you yourself have an aggressive toddler, then you understand that a child's aggressiveness, yes even the extreme aggressiveness of my child, is not something to blame yourself about. You know that your child simply needs extra attention to correct the bad behavior and divert that energy into something positive. And what a joy your child becomes when they put their energy into something positive! My review is for parents like you, which is simply that this day care is not prepared to handle your child, and it will be a negative experience for you, your child, and others.

I find the staff all to be very passionate about teaching and well-suited for their roles. The communication between the teachers, director, and parents is excellent. We get weekly (sometimes more) updates on what they are learning and what is needed from us / is coming up. Although my family is Christian - we love the Jewish aspect of the school. A Muslim acquaintance of mine is also looking forward to sending her child here soon. Personally, my family has enjoyed learning about the Jewish faith and celebrating the Jewish holidays. There are many kids of all faiths, races, and backgrounds in the UPK and 3PK classes. The diversity is wonderful. Packing a vegetarian lunch took a little getting used to but like other reviewers have mentioned my kid's lunches are very healthy because of it. I send them scrambled eggs, PBJ, lots of fruit, nuts (they have nut-free classes if needed), and lots of cheese and crackers. Both of my kids attend TI currently. When one was at daycare and the other at TI it was hard to manage the Christian and Jewish days off as they weren't all the same - but it was worth it because my kids are thriving at the school. Lastly, I want to say that although we have two lottery spots we loved it so much with our first child we put a deposit down for a private spot in the school just in case we didn't get a spot in the lottery. The director refunded the deposit for us when we heard from the district that we had won the lottery again. (The only lottery I ever expect I'll win, and that's okay lol)

And by the time your child has moved on, the school may be a very different place. Regardless, I thought I would share my experiences. Both kids went through the program at Temple Israel Nursery School. We call it TI for short. And it was great. Was it the best ever? Maybe just a hair below some of the experiences with nursery schools we had in Berkeley and Princeton. But I would be hard pressed to think of a better school in the Capital Region for our needs. Yes, most of the teaches that my kids had and loved have moved on. The administration is different. But if we ended up having another kid, this would be the first place I would call to book an appointment and check out the current program. It was important for me for my kids to have a Jewish education, so I loved that this was in the same building as the sanctuary and the students were able to build relationships with the rabbi and cantors. And that is unchanged. And this may be stupid, but I really loved that little lobby where parents would wait for their kids to be done with school. I met some other parents there back in the day, and we're still friends after all these years. Not only that, but this is "smallbany" after all, so the kids keep bumping into some of the peers from nursery school. It's amazing how that works out.

It is clear Steph and Parkside's wonderful teachers love what they do, and our toddler son felt right at home from our very first day at the center. Steph's years of experience operating an in home center have seamlessly scaled to a larger daycare center setting while maintaining high standards and a close knit family feel. We have been less than impressed by other daycares in the area but have always felt comfortable and confident leaving our son in Parkside's very capable hands. In addition to the wonderful owner/director and staff, the indoor and outdoor play areas are clean and appropriately stimulating for young children. There is so much space and variety for children to explore, play, and burn energy, which is a huge plus for our active little one. I always have to drag my son out of Parkside at pick up time because he just loves playing with the excavators and rocks outside! The extreme cleanliness of the facility, nutritious and included meals, convenient hours of operation, frequent updates and pictures via the Brightwheel app, and reasonable rates are other things we appreciate. At Loudonville, she's receiving so much more individual attention due to the smaller class sizes, and the teachers are truly invested in both the students and their families. It's been amazing to see her grow--not just academically, but spiritually as well. She's smiling more, feels supported, and is genuinely happy. Without a doubt, it was the best decision we've made.
