Let's start with the nursing staff. Being that I just had surgery and could barely move for the first week and a half. They were not very cheerful about having to help me and made me feel like a burden. The food is another subject, it was dismal And barely edible some nights. The Physical Therapy people were excellent and caring and truly were interested in making a difference and I would give them five stars. I hope I never have to return to this facility again and I can't believe St. Luke's has their name associated with this facility. I hear all of the other options out there are about the same or worse and it does not say very much for the healthcare system in our country. Second time I've been here when I knew I was going to have to go to a rehab rehabilitation center again there was no question on where I was going to go. Everybody here is very helpful. The PT people are knowledgeable and are here to help you get better so you can function on your own. All the nurses were very helpful and kind. Actually everybody here was from the administrative staff to the cooks, the nurses the technicians If I have to go to a rehab rehabilitation center again there will be no question as to where I will go. read more

Surrey place is the best place for any type of care of course not for those families who want one on one care for themselves and their family members. if someone calls every few minutes to come to their room and if one nurse has 10 to 15 patients most of them are total care, nurses and cnas organize their time accordingly, staff always covers what is needed starting from vitals and ordering food etc and asking the patient there wellbeing for the day and then plan their care accordingly. Some don't understand how critical and different patient care depends from one patient to another, some times staff has to provide moral support medical support, physical help, unfortunately some families focus on themselves and want exact what they want. If one goes to store and there are lot of people in the line we will find our place in line without arguing or asking any question but when it comes patient care everyone wants help right away, they don't understand there are other patients who are in need of help, some times some one has a fall, other one is having a hard time to breath, some one wants to use bathroom, some one wants food, water diaper change, sometime it can happen at once and you can imagine how one has to organize in this situation. People at surrey place are kind and sincere, they will explain you everything at the start of the care means day one and if families miss they are not with the patient at that time, then they have to talk with the related department sometimes there are several family members who have their own demands what they want to know of course they have to ask questions, if they have one and someone will answer their questions. ST.Lukes a very good hospital runs this facility and tries to accommodate every one humanly possible. read more

Nursing and CNA's were awful. The therapists were okay, felt like they milked the insurance and then discharged and my mom was more deconditioned than she was prior to her accident. Nurse never gave my mom's doctors note for rehab and after 8 days when I asked, the therapists had no idea that rehab was ordered. Dirty, smells and understaffed. read more

*NEGLECT* Loved one left in a wheelchair all night, after requesting nurse assist him into bed. Also, left without needed oxygen. Upper management would not meet with family to discuss situation. Care withheld after incident. One day he was given two hard boiled eggs for lunch (requested a cobb salad). Social Worker is rude and incompetent. Refused to do her job and told family to have the nurse perform her responsibilities. Family had to coordinate discharge, home health and oxygen delivery because she didn't have time (she was given 5 days notice to prepare for discharge). She has no business dealing with people. Nurse Heather was patient and kind. We love St. Luke's Hospital but Surrey Place doesn't represent their brand positively. read more

Please, avoid this place! I'm writing this review as a warning to protect your loved one. We took a family member to this 'hell hole' as a step down after a major surgery. Our loved one felt she needed skilled help before going home. She received neither 'skilled' nurses or 'help'. The place was filthy. It seemed all they staff wanted to do was give narcotics at night to knock out our loved one. We requested just Tylenol for mild pain. That was a huge ordeal for the nurses. Because this turned into an argument, the nurses then wanted to tag on anxiety medication with narcotics. After speaking to nurse supervisor, it was agreed to try and receive just Tylenol. But, for the next two nights, they would still bring in a narcotic. I'm curious where this unwrapped narcotic went after it was refused. In just a few days there was water weight gain of almost 20 pounds!!!! We requested Lasix. That was in the evening, so we had to wait for Dr. Hu to prescribe. It was prescribed the next morning. By 8pm, still not brought it. We called our surgeon for help! Received the med by 8:30pm. The nurse told us legs and hands looked fine and recommended NOT TAKING. I asked how she could possibly see the covered up legs. She said she could tell. She did not touch the legs to check. Also there was a large chest wound from surgery. The wound was never checked except by looking down the top of shirt. After a couple days, we chose to leave this place for the health and recovery of or loved one. When we arrived home, the health care nurse found and infection in the chest. We are thankful that we have family members who are diligent. We never left our loved one alone. Please, take your time and due your research in finding a quality rehab place. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! read more

PLEASE, PLEASE, don't place your loved one at Surrey Place. Rooms are not clean, take a cloth to the blinds, baseboards, and bed frames, the cloth, (which you will have to use many) will be filthy dirty. Medicine mix-up happened, mistruth was given to cover it up, witnesses were there to verify the mistruth spoken by staff. Dr. Wu, the Surrey Place staff physican is VERY slow to respond. P/T and O/T is only once a day, lots of down time. Not all P/T personel are patient, compassionate, and encouraging, plus, do not follow the doctor's order which could be very dangerous, only use the P/T & O/T that have the qualities listed above. Needless to say, we left Surrey Place asap, it was NOT the place for our loved one. read more

I have never heard my neighbor cry before. When I called her, she was sobbing because, apparently, the nurses left her to just sit in the wheelchair in the middle of the room for hours. She is not able to move because of her injuries (that is why she is there). When they finally came to move her to her bed, they pulled on her shattered right arm to move her... WHAT??? St. Luke's hospital is wonderful, but Surrey Place definitely needs some monitoring to see how the patients are being cared for. read more

I have had numerous issues with staff at Surrey Place. I understand the COVID 19 Pandemic has been hard on all of us, however, some things should never be discounted by staff. I have had the pleasure of speaking to the CEO, numerous times, which I will say has made things much easier, however, when the Director and upper management continue to fail in both professionalism and care in regard to residents and their families, this is inexcusable. My Mother has been in this facility for 9 months, first receiving rehab, then getting the virus from one of the nurse staff members. My Mother was one of the lucky ones to have survived, she has both of her shots and is so far doing well in her health in this respect. However, once again, I have been told that a therapy that was to be done, in order to help in beginning her PT again, has never been done. I will have to call the CEO, once again. To me, I should be able to depend on the staff of Surrey Place, but due to so many issues in the past, I never even attempt to talk to the Director, as she simply doesn't do as she should in making sure the facility is doing their job they are being paid to do. My Mother is Private pay, costing nearly 280.00 per day for her care. I beginning to believe, they are not looking at my mothers best interest by not doing their job to assist her in improving to be discharged home as they are aware is our hopes and plan for my Mothers future, to live with her husband of 62 years. My Father is 91, and my Mother is 83. It's very important to me and my family that they spend the rest of their days together. Isn't that everyone's hope? So, if your considering moving a loved one to Surrey Place, make sure you interview the upper management and please be sure it's the best option, before going through what we have had to endure. read more

Terrible care given to my grandfather. They take 30 minutes to over an hour to answer his call light when their policy states 5 minutes max. They take an hour to bring him his pain pills after he requested. Numerous times he had an accident in his pants while waiting on the nurses for so long to give him a bed pan. When he asks to be moved out of bed so he can work on his therapy (the reason he is there) they often tell him no. The nurses talk very rudely to him often. He has asked and we have asked many times for him to receive mental care and yet nothing has been done. Overall my family has had nothing but awful experiences here. read more

Extremely hostile receptionist in person and on the phone - she said my husband wasn't here and then asked what his name was - I said "why did you tell me he wasn't here if you didn't know his name?" The attitude continued. His case manager never saw him for the first 24 hours he was here and his nurse never called as requested. Don't leave a loved one here! read more

After such a wonderful experience with the facility and staff that make up St. Luke's Hospital (shout out to the Orthopedics wing, **woot, woot**), Surrey Place (the St. Luke's Rehabilitation Center) was such a monumental let down. My grandfather recently had a knee replacement surgery, and since my grandmother is no longer with us to assist him at home full-time, his doctor allowed him to come to the rehab facility to get some assistance with his Occupational and Physical Therapy before being released back into the world. I don't know if it is fortunate or unfortunate... helpful or unhelpful, but my aunt happens to be a Physical Therapist and my mother happens to be an Occupational Therapist, so I am sure that their standards are high. However, I went to spend time with my G-Pa, and sat through his Occupational Therapy session. I am no expert, but it was awful. As I drove up, it looked like a resort at a lake somewhere. There were chairs lined up along the walkway for people to sit outside and enjoy some fresh air. I really thought that I was going to see a nice facility, but as soon as I entered the dining room, my hopes were shattered. For a rehab facility, it seemed eerily similar to a nursing home. There were random elderly sitting hunched over in their wheelchairs, ladies that pulled their wheelchairs along by their socked feet, whispering "help me, help me", and the impression that they might just take the worst of the worst for their therapist staff. In fairness, I witnessed some atrocities over what is considered the weekend. Apparently the staff during the week was much better. I am not kidding when I say that the most animated I saw anyone was when I was bringing some family dinner (Baked Shells, and Pasta House T-Ravs and Salad) by for my grandpa and his girlfriend. There was one guy in the dining room, who was extremely friendly and to him, I would give the full star quotient, but he's not the one dealing with these poor patients all the time. My grandfather had a major surgical procedure prior to his admittance. He was expected to tell the nurses when he needed a pain pill. I'd really like to know how he was supposed to know to tell them this, or how often he should be taking them. Certainly he would know how he's feeling, but they should be asking. Luckily, he had my mother and aunt to explain the exercises, explain the importance of keeping up with them and force him to keep at it. Several times, no one would come around to give him his necessary meds or to take him to his scheduled therapy sessions. Is that not the purpose of him being in this creepy facility? It certainly wasn't for the fun of it. His girlfriend basically had to step up as his nurse. She had to demand things that should have been provided without prompting. My uncle, who is one of the gentlest of men had to get a little rough with the staff, and then finally they started doing their jobs. Now, I realize how difficult it would be to work in a place like this. Older people can be bossy, mean, forgetful and spiteful. I know that it takes a special person to work in a place like this, but St Luke's has the same patients. How is it that they can be the salt of the Earth, and these people care more about getting a cupcake I brought in, than dispensing the right dosage of Oxycodone to my G-Pa. Yeah, let's ask the 85 year old how much he should have instead of utilizing a proper chart. Ugh. I hope and pray that no one in my family ever ends up here again... Very Un-Happy Rehabing read more

I'm not sure why they charge so much. They literally do minimum stuff with the patients yet charge an arm and a leg.

In the few hours I've been here today I've been humiliated I've been in tears twice. Nobody really seems to think much about it. I don't know how the residents who stay here and the families who leave the family here can feel good about it I'm here for about a week for physical therapy. Family members please stop by this facility in the evening and observe. read more

I am so greatful for the entire team at Surrey Place that helped my father during his rehab stay. From nursing to therapy, housekeeping, dietary, activities , administration and maintenence, they all pulled together to make this a great experience. I saw many positive changes in my father while he was at Surrey Place and after he discharged as well. This was a wonderful experience and I would recommend Surrey Place to others needing rehab or long term placement. read more

After suffering knee pain for years, I finally succumbed to replacement; called Dr. Jerome Piontek and made an appointment to have both knees replaced. After a successful operation I transferred from St. Luke's Hospital to Surrey Place for rehabilitation. I still had pain and lots of work to do, but being at Surrey was like a resort! Wonderful people on hand to help and offer encouragement; varied menu and good food. All the things necessary for recovery was provided with smiles and good cheer. I welcome the opportunity to recommend new knees when the old ones offer only pain and hardship, and St. Luke's together with rehab at Surrey Place are close to doing it in a resort atmosphere! read more
