She was the most abusive educator and individual I have ever encountered in my life. Recently, I saw a news story about a teacher who forced a child to duct tape their own mouth--a shocking incident that made headlines. That is exactly what this teacher did to me. She was a physically imposing figure, over 400 pounds, struggling to walk or sit, yet possessed a voice that could shake a room. If she caught me talking, she would unleash a violent scream and apply excessive amounts of duct tape over my mouth--sometimes as many as ten strips, depending on her level of anger. At times, she would force me to tape my own mouth while aggressively throwing my desk into the hallway. As a result, I developed a chapped ring under my bottom lip from the repeated abuse. I never told my mother because I feared I would be the one in trouble. This teacher targeted me specifically--I wasn't talking to myself, yet I bore the brunt of her cruel punishments. It became impossible to make friends after being relentlessly humiliated in front of an entire classroom. The psychological and emotional damage has stayed with me for life. I deeply regret not speaking out sooner, and I shudder to think of how many other children may have suffered at her hands. Given her age and health at the time, I doubt she is still teaching--or even alive. However, this serves as a crucial reminder: parents, pay attention to your children and their teachers. Educators hold the power to shape a child's future, but some, like this woman, wield that power to destroy. --- .

The way that he treats the moms over the dads is some 1950s kind of stuff. When we met with him, he ignored me and basically just spoke to my husband. But that wasn't enough to make me dislike him. I just thought he was trying to "bro out". However, as our year progressed, he was disrespectful to a single mom during morning lineup. She was so upset, she cried afterwards and ended up leaving the school because of him. I had several issues that I didn't like how he handled them. I tried to speak to him but he was rude and manipulative to me the entire time. When my husband got involved he implied that I was "out of control" and to keep a better handle on his family. Lastly, let's talk about how he doesn't care about the children. He prioritized Covid over everything. The parking lot was a wreck and people were speeding. A mom brought it up at a PTA meeting worried someone might hit a child. He responded "Well I'm taking temperatures I cannot police the parking lot". So he did nothing about it. I mean I didn't want my children to get Covid, but I certainly didn't want them getting hit by a car either. He never stood up for the kids to have them go back to school even once other schools were opening in late 2020. He wanted to stay home because he was scared for himself, so he took an entire year away from the kids until they went back for a few hours in March 2021. I am completely shocked that this man is still allowed to be a principal. He runs the school like a dictatorship and moms are scared of him so don't argue. Anything he does people talk amongst themselves but feel helpless to stand up to him. Toxic. Toxic. Toxic. We obviously left the school due to him and he alone. Some tips: 1: stay away from this man. He is NOT your friend if you are a woman. 2: He is 5'4 max so I don't know why people are scared of him but they are so just know if push comes to shove you can probably take him.

The overall quality of the education provided was pretty good. There are some really good teachers with a few being exceptional. There are also some bad teachers too. Unfortunately the exceptional ones have either retired (like the former 8th grade teacher Mr Laner) or have moved on to other schools simply because of administration issues. Like many have stated, the administration is sorely lacking and that all falls squarely on principal Watson who lacks the proper skills and judgement to be an effective leader. Is this a good school? Overall, yes as a local private Catholic elementary and middle school. Were my two girls happy being part of this school? Yes, they created a lot of long lasting friendships and developed good solid religious values through the curriculum. The campus itself has gone through some wonderful improvements through recent renovations, but it could benefit and really flourish with a new principal and a fresh start..

A very rare find, not only was it close to my venue but I met father David and he was so easy to talk to and very warm I couldn't have chosen a better location for us to get married. Coordination with the planner of the church was very easy, they allowed me to bring flowers and my own mariachi. We did have to provide a list of approved songs to be played in church but that was fairly easy as well as the church had request of songs to be played after each reading. My father was late to church, and the staff was very understating and supporting. They didn't give me any problems and im very thankful for that. If your thinking of this church I recommend it 100 percent. I know attend mass every Sunday.

A ha haaaa??????? Anyways, two of my nearest and dearest friends from college got married recently and had their wedding ceremony at this church. I was lucky enough to celebrate their union a few Saturdays ago! The parking situation was really confusing because there was only one small entrance that was really easy to drive past and miss. When we were finally able to drive to inside, there are signs in front of the lot entrance and all around the lot that indicate that permits are required and that the lot is reserved for Loyola Marymount University (LMU) parking only. We exited that small lot, looped around the general area and asked for directions, only to be redirected back to that same small parking lot and were told there were a small handful of labeled parking spots reserved for church patrons. You wouldn't know this unless you disregarded the main signage displayed at the entrance of the lot and read every single parking spot in the lot instead. Again, very confusing for everyone involved and I'm not sure how the church manages parking during their mass service because there's no way hundreds of attendees are making the same five parking spots work every Sunday. The church itself was very spacious, well-maintained, and beautiful. I could tell why my friend picked this one to say "I do" in -- it was absolutely gorgeous and I heard it was even her dream church to get married in! Their air conditioning was also pretty decent, which was appreciated given the scorching hot weather we've been having lately. As soon as I stepped out of the building after the wedding ceremony, I knew I had to repent for any and all of my sins immediately because hell is probably hotter than SoCal weather right now and I'm simply not cut out for that life, lmaoooo. While we ended up missing my friends' wedding entrance due to the parking complexities, we were at least able to catch her wedding exit. I would still recommend other couples to get married here because it's a really pretty wedding venue. Our family is in our ninth year at St. Brendan School and it's been wonderful. From the time they…read morewere little through having an 8th grader, our kids have thrived, gaining solid academic preparation, well-rounded interests, and a sense of belonging to a warm, welcoming, and active community.   The teachers at St. Brendan are terrific at all levels, starting with the expert Kinder teacher who helped set up one wiggly five-year-old for success and taught another to love reading over Zoom in COVID, all the way through Middle School teachers leading sophisticated discussions of novels and social issues and shepherding kids though high school applications.  When our kids have needed support, the teachers and the Principal, Mrs. Young, have been there and all along, our kids have been seen for who they are, cared for, and championed.  I also love that as a Catholic school, discussions around service and social justice are integrated into daily learning; our family is Catholic but many St. Brendan families aren't and the focus is largely on common values. St. Brendan also offers a wide range of opportunities for kids to learn teamwork and leadership and to expand their horizons, from successful but inclusive sports teams, to a spring musical that levels up every year, to a popular scouts program, and lots more.  The art program at St. Brendan is a standout; all grades have class weekly and the students make some truly remarkable pieces. That said, what really makes St. Brendan unique is the emphasis on togetherness and community.  The older kids look out for the little ones, with each upper grade student assigned a little buddy they spend time with throughout the year, helping our middle schoolers stay playful while learning responsibility.  Every family contributes service hours to the school, meaning parents are highly invested and present every day.  Our collective efforts add to the offerings for the kids and in the process, we've gained wonderful friendships and a sense of belonging.  I can honestly say there is always something fun happening at St. Brendan! As we start to look to the next chapter, we couldn't be happier to have found this amazing school.

Our Experience at This School - A Deep Disappointment…read more We enrolled our son at this private Catholic school with high hopes, trusting in its mission to protect and nurture the children of God. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing and concerning. This situation happened approximately one year ago, and as parents, we were devastated. It took us a long time to fully process everything that happened--not because we didn't care, but because our top priority was always to protect our son and make sure he was emotionally safe. The pain caused by what happened didn't affect only him--it hurt us deeply as his parents and family. We had to rely on loved ones for emotional support to cope. Now, after time and reflection, we feel able to speak about it because this should never happen again. When our son faced conflict with other students, the school's response was troubling. Instead of fairness and compassion, his teacher reacted with harshness. Her behavior was relentless and cruel toward a 12-year-old child. That conduct was inappropriate and did not reflect Catholic values of safety and respect. As a teacher, her role should have been to guide and support students--not judge or take sides. She clearly took sides, damaging the trust our son had placed in her. He initially felt safe and confident but felt betrayed. She never tried to talk with him about what happened or gave him a chance to explain himself. We were also disturbed when the teacher held a private conversation with our son without informing us. That happened during questionable disciplinary action, which we found unacceptable. We are concerned she held a personal grudge against him--something no school should allow. No child should feel singled out or intimidated by a teacher. It became clear she did not want our son in her class or at the school. She bullied him and damaged his self-worth so deeply we worried for his mental health. He no longer felt safe; he felt scared, anxious, and uncomfortable. He feared constant judgment, which made learning impossible. We also saw a divide between students who started young and those who joined later. New students were not treated equally or supported fully. This extended to extracurriculars--our son was excluded from sports for lacking experience, which left him isolated and discouraged. Eventually, we had to enroll our son in a new school. Transitioning to middle school was hard enough; being pushed out of a school he loved made it even harder. The school should be ashamed of how this was handled. No one stood up for him, and a teacher abused his trust and undermined his success. The school claims to follow Christ's example and hold high moral standards. That should include compassion, protection, and forgiveness. But these values were only words, not reflected in actions. The school failed to protect our son and allowed personal biases to guide decisions. Because of all this, we made the difficult decision to withdraw our son immediately. It was heartbreaking, but we no longer believed he was safe in that environment. We hope the school reflects and makes changes to prevent other children from suffering similarly. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this school--especially for students entering in later grades.

I'm incredibly proud of him, and I often catch myself admiring qualities in him that remind me I still have things to learn myself. I truly believe so much of that is because of St. Catherine's. To him, it isn't just a school; it's an extension of our family. Knowing he has such a strong support system there gives me confidence that he'll continue to thrive and go far in life. One thing people often misunderstand is the military program. It's not there to reform boys; it's there to teach discipline, structure, sacrifice, accountability, and the value of strong camaraderie. Those are lessons that shape character for a lifetime. SCA has helped mold my brother into someone I genuinely look up to, despite being more than 20 years older than him. You can't put a price on that. He is kind, levelheaded, stoic, devoted, respectful to everyone he meets, and carries himself with a maturity far beyond his years. Those qualities are a reflection of the values that St. Catherine's has helped instill in him, and for that, I will always be grateful.

St Catherine's Academy is a Catholic Church with a military tradition in this school you can learn…read morea lot of interesting things such as survival skills and the ways of the military. There is even marines in our school to teach us how to have good manners and how to March exactly like the military. There are also sports teams like volleyball basketball and football. You can also be a resident of five and seven days. The best part I like is the brotherhood the whole SCA community is a family from the staff members to the students we help each other whenever there is need.
