I remember the main hospital in Bremerton was Harrison Memorial. Now the behemoth structure in Silverdale is St Michael Medical Center. Visit #1: I had accompanied my Mom to her mammogram at an adjacent building. Parking was well marked, main reception check-in straight forward, and imaging clinic was fast. Her physician's office received the results promptly. Visit #2: My Mom was transported by ambulance to the ER. Me & The Homie got on the first available ferry from Edmonds & drove fast from Kingston to Silverdale. Again, clear signage for appropriate parking. Checking in required proof of identity with security to obtain an official name to gain access to the ER rooms. Staff from Security, Patient Services, CT scan tech, lab staff, ER physician & nurse all had clear communication. Visit #3: My Mom was admitted and transferred from the ER to another floor, 3South. Good signage and room info regarding assigned staff. Attending physician was clear with findings and desired outcome. Again, staff who dealt with labs, vitals, meals, and keeping patients clean & well looked after were excellent. Visit #4: Discharge day which also included visits from other specialists. Very thorough to be all in agreement and documentation provided before allowing my Mom to go home. My Mom is fortunate to have comprehensive insurance coverage which allowed her to receive great care and treatment from St Michael's, a member of the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health medical network. St Mikes has gotten a bad rap. I've always felt the staff and facilities are top notch and they keep growing . Though sad that our older, much smaller local Harrison Hospital is no more, I understand there were economic reasons. . What we do have is a very modern, very gorgeous, and always growing medical facility! And I've recently learned there is a strong and binding mandate for non-religious affiliation despite the name. I love that my oncologist moved from a smaller, much older independent location in Poulsbo to a fully functional Oncology Center. Dr Sirisha Jain saved my husbands life diagnosing a one in a million auto-immune blood disease (and treated me the following year) and now she has the facilities and colleagues to work miracles on so many others! The realities of the understaffed, undersized ER and other departments Covid/post-covid have been and are being addressed with stable staffing replacing traveling nurses, the opening of urgent/emergency satellite locations and alternatives, and the development of residency and other training programs which are growing highly capable, local talent choosing to stay in our community . It was bad, and so was COVID; hopefully they'll be better prepared for the next major stress testing both by heart patients and our community as a whole! I had a 95 year old friend fall and shatter his hip. Surgery was attempted but there was not much that could have been done and he passed 2 weeks later. During those weeks, the care he received was world class! After a short stint on the orthopedic floor, he was transferred to the top for hospice. From the care and attention he and we received to the spacious, ultra modern suite with views of the water and mountains beyond, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last days of his life together. The medical wings with doctor offices, oncology, labs, imaging, plus the heliport if life-saving measures beyond what's available is needed, I feel very secure that the needs of the young as well as our aging population will be met from now and into the future. When I awoke confused after surgery performed in the last year at the old Bremerton location, I looked around, tried to get dressed to leave, and was questioned by a nurse who asked me where I thought I was. I said " Mexico?", think I must have been in a different country try with crumbling medical facilities! I've since learned that you can find high class care in many parts of Mexico, but point is you'd never be confused in our beautiful new building. Is it perfect? NO! But IMO, it's a shiny gem in our community. read more

If only there was a 0 star I could use. This place is terrible, I do not recommend going here, drive to ANY other hospital. I had a completely broken ankle, all the way through, they told me it was sprained and had someone REALIGN my ankle. Then sent me on my way with a splint. And luckily we took photos of the x-ray or we literally wouldn't have it anymore because they LOST IT. My Dad just got back from a finger injury that split his hand open and they barely cleaned it, glued it together and sent him on his way. It was bleeding again not even two hours later because they couldn't clean it properly. He works and does a lot of manual labor to keep his house running. I went to get imaging done. They have no signs up, the imaging desk isn't staffed, and decrepit boomers are just wandering around like zombies. This is the worst run hospital I've ever personally seen. I got higher quality customer service in combat. Like this place is fantastically bad. I wish there was a zero star option. I took a family member to the "ER" yesterday at 1:00 pm. It is currently 3:30 am, today. We have been here 14.5 hours. We are waiting for an ultrasound. An ULTRASOUND. A routine procedure. We haven't heard the same answer from one employee. They refuse to give us an ETA. I can only describe the "care" as cruel. I looked up the average wait time. The National Average is 2 hours 41 minutes. We have been here five times that. This is the worst hospital experience any of us have seen. read more

I started in the ER, they were very busy, so when I got to see the doctor, I was in a lot of pain. I knew what was going to happen and when the test were confirmed, I was admitted! The nurses were all very good but very busy. If you are in a lot of pain and have no patience, you will need to bite the bullet and give them a chance to help you. read more

This is based on my care from Dr. Jacob Matthews ( Oncology ) i have been in his care since and double mastectomy in June of 2020. I am now once a year in visits. He has always gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and heard in my concerns. Went in for mammogram. There was absolutely NO ONE in the lobby or at the desk. Sign said to check in at the desk on the Mountain View section where you go for the mammogram and other imagery. There was NO ONE there!!! I stood there for a few minutes waiting. Then started looking around for a bell or phone or something. I was confused, waited some more. After about 10 minutes I went around to the side of the desk and knocked on a window completely perplexed! I arrived on time. After probably 15 minutes some woman came out from back behind somewhere and was very rude to me. I was shocked. I arrived when I was told to and was trying to check in as the sign indicated. No one there... nothing.. I was a little late finally getting in for the mammogram but not because I wasn't on time , because the rude person wasn't at the desk to check me in. My brother walked in to the ER for help on Saturday - received nothing but bad care. Dies on Tuesday - the day he was scheduled to go home after an endoscopy. Doctors awful; staff uncaring - My brother should be here today but thanks to Saint Michael Medical he is gone. Do not rely on this hospital. I came back from Africa in March, and I was extremely sick. I was taken to this hospital by ambulance with a fever over a 103ﾟ, almost out of oxygen, dehydrated, delirious, with infections on my kidneys, and a whole bunch of other issues. I got there just in time because there were no more ambulances allowed to go there because of the severe shortage of staff. I really was lucky. I had to sleep on a gurney in a room in the emergency level area for a night, but I did get a room the next day. I must say, they have the most amazingly beautiful, private, hospital rooms. They are so big and spacious. I think each room could have been cut in half so that more people could get support and have a room when needed. The care team was exceptional. There was an unforeseen incident at my son & daughter-in- laws apartment complex. Camber apartments. They were bathing their 1mo in the sink and the sink fell through and the baby ended up falling underneath the sink. We took her to St Michael's to make sure that she was OK. Apparently Dr. Lane wasn't pleased with the idea that he was the chosen one to HAVE to care for this child and wanted to know if it was serious enough. I guess Dr Lane is over worked or maybe he's under paid. All I know that this hospital is a total shit show. Why any one would bother to go there is beyond me. Dr. Misra was absolutely amazing! From the moment I was admitted, he made sure I had everything I needed to start my healing process. He was extremely communicative and answered any and all questions I had about my condition and the treatment plan. He personally checked in on me everyday with updates about my progress, making sure everyone on staff was up to speed for each day of treatment I was here. He made sure I was comfortable and that my pain was being managed. All the staff assigned to my care each day were so caring, attentive, and made sure I was comfortable during their shifts, even though it was crazy busy on the floor. I have nothing but pure gratitude for the treatment provided by all who were involved in my case during my stay. read more

I went to hospital for breathing problems. Was moved around 5 times to different rooms. Finally ended up in the old ward where you feel like you are gonna die with old beds old curtains between you and your neighbor. Then told you have stage 3 heart failure and good luck. Referral to heart doctor that says every two weeks and seen over a month later because there are no opening. Then I received a mail flyer today about cremation services. My wife had a serious Pneumonia & was seen at Urgent Care Kaiser Silverdale, they were worried about her condition becouse her condition would not stabilize with antibiotics. We were sent to the emergency room at St Michael's & sent over the dr's report, we have been sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours, people have been taken into care that have waited less time. They are supposed to be keeping an eye on her oxygen levels & other vitals but we are completely ignored. The reason for this 1-star review has nothing to do with its quality of care or its staff. Over the past few months I've been getting mailed request for cash donations. That's right, their large,faith-based, medical conglomerate owner which is a virtual monopoly in this area is using its non-profit Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Foundation to beg for money from its patients, in other words---me. Really? Is that the reason the under-staffing of nurses and medical personnel--I'm not giving what I can as often as I can? What happened to the lowered operating costs and more efficient operation to serve ME and the community better that was be the result of a faith-based medical conglomerate which was already a virtual monopoly in this area devouring its competitors? This really upsets me. Who are THEY to ask ME for money--to the point of mailing me twice this week asking for dough? I should be asking THEM for a few hundred bucks because that foundation should surely be able to afford it--their pleas for funds notwithstanding. But enough with these constant, unsolicited mailings,please! I've got a great idea! Christmas is coming.The Foundation can dress up like Santa, ring their bells and collect dollars at bucket stations all over the county. I'm reviewing again because this time, St. Michael's saved my mother's life. She (90) was admitted in respiratory distress, with the flu, pneumonia and a bacterial infection in her lungs. I first saw her in the resuscitation unit in the emergency room after transport from a nursing home. Her doctor (Dr. Ast) immediately put me at ease with both his mannerism and the information he gave me. It was incredibly clear that he was on top of the situation. She had a 10 day stay and had the same doctor (Dr. Mehra) for the entire visit. Dr. Mehra and each and every nurse and aide I came into contact with on both the 6th floor and then the 3rd floor (she was transferred once she was out of the woods) was an absolute angel, and clearly cared about every aspect of her care. St. Michael had the talent, equipment and resources required to save my mom's life, and I will be forever grateful for that. read more

I have been coming to St. Michael's daily to visit my friend who started in the Progressive Ward but was downgraded and moved to the ICU. My interactions with all the doctors and have been professional and care. The nurses especially provide very good care quality to the patients it seems to me. In November of 2024, I went to St Michaels for a cardiac ablation. The ablation went well - sinus rhythm! Sent home the same day. Problems started the day after I returned home - fever, coughing, and some amazing bruising. To be clear, they went in through my upper legs, but I had BLACK bruising from mid-thigh to just below my navel. (Completely covered in bruise). BUT - the fever (103) and the coughing was pneumonia and sepsis. Great. The staff took extra time to explain that the pneumonia was "Community Acquired" - meaning I caught it "on the RIDE HOME. NOT IN THE HOSPITAL". Any second year knows this is untrue, but I didn't care at that point. After testing, they left me on a gurney and plugged me into a bag of antibiotics and parked me in a back office. For 48 hours, I was tucked in an office, woken and jostled at lease every 2 hours, had to request meals. On a gurney. In a back office. That gurney was not meant for 24-hour occupancy. Had one of the doctors tell me, "Hey, its just a business". Thank goodness for family and friends who backed me up. On the third day I finally got a room - but downstairs in isolation. Isolation ward Nurse Ratched insisted that visitors had to leave in the afternoon and was generally unhelpful, so I said I was leaving and to please prescribe home medications. Three requests for a detailed bill have resulted in boilerplate vague lists of "SUP0002 HC supply.... with prices between 20 and 2500 dollars. (I was just curious how much they charged my insurance for parking me on a gurney for 48 hours. The Patient Concern Line is a 1-800 answering machine without worth. TO SUM: I will not let anyone I love to go to St Michael hospital in Silverdale. The surgeon knew her stuff. The organizational skills of St Michael are abysmal. Room assignments aren't even done in Silverdale; meals, IV changeout, and other details are catch-as-catch-can. If you MUST go there, bring your own advocate and some granola bars. read more

I had an upper GI w/esophagus stretch. They said they were putting me under heavy sedation. OK. My issue is with a post-op nurse. Talk about a bum's rush. In and out of there in about 2 hours. I remember opening my eyes and nurse said "Wake up J, you can sleep at home." I was put in a wheel chair. Pushed around the corner to get dressed. I can barely hold my head-up. My wife helped me get dressed, madder than blazes. I was never offered any water or juice. My throat was dry and sore from the procedure. Just another insignificant patient/number. read more

I have never had to stay in the hospital unless having kids. There are a few nurses I would love to mention Rachel, Emmalee, Lisa, these ladies work on the 7th floor Oncology. When I say these 3 ladies right here went over and beyond my expectations. They made me feel safe. The didn't know what my disease was so the look it up. Made me happy to be understood. Im 73. I had an inflamed gut. Except for the ER doc who recognized pain when he saw it, I was left to writhe in agony, feeling like my guts were going to explode for 24 hours. No pain meds. No food. No water. Nothing for nausea. No one checked on me. No one cared. They forgot to book my surgery, so the infection was allowed to fester for that same 24 hours. Following surgery, which left me feeling like I'd been stabbed in a mugging, I received a diet of liquid sugar and MSG. They finally gave me a turkey sandwich: one paper thin slice of turkey, one equally thin slice of cheese on thin sliced Wonder Bread. They were offended that my enthusiasm waned after choking down half this thing they called a sandwich. They complained about my high blood pressure, but failed to give me my blood pressure meds, despite being reminded repeatedly. I can only conclude they deliberately undermedicate their patients. Then there are the beds, if you can call them that. Remember "hospital corners?" Well, forget them. You get a plastic covered cot mattress with some kind of liner draped over part of it. They don't even bother covering the whole sorry excuse for a mattress! The blankets are made of flour sacking. Nothing is tucked in. The whole thing becomes a wad in no time, but no one came to help straighten it. After 48 hours of this draconian nightmare, I refused to stay longer. The "doctor" wanted me to stay, but it was clearly medically unnecessary so who would pay for it? Not Medicare. THEN they got snippy. No one even helped take off all the heart monitor stickers. Two days later, I found one on my back I didn't know about. There is more, but this review is already too long In conclusion, I'm amazed and baffled that this "medical center" is still accredited and permitted to conduct business. They're going to kill someone someday if they haven't already, through medical negligence or personal indifference. If you need actual medical care, tell the EMTs to drive in the opposite direction. If you are contemplating a home birth, do that instead of coming here. After receiving my bill after giving birth, the bill showed an over 3 grand charge for the nursery, shown for two different days. My child was never in the nursery. From the moment I birthed her until we went home my baby was with me the whole time. I spoke with staff (to dispute those charges) and was told "it was the level of care that was received", even if my child was never in the nursery. Just another way to squeeze more money from people. Greedy. My spouse was there too, and the staff gave him vouchers for meals, but the place wasn't open to get food! They said the coupons where good for a year, but why would I want to come back? The hospital isn't a place to hang out! The birth was a quite the experience, but the aftermath of charging for the nursery-that never happened and the meal tickets that could not be used (when in the hospital) would make me want to seek another place to give birth if I was to have another. read more

I had minor heart surgery on December 4, 2024, which required general anesthesia. I am allergic to chlohexidine, and I indicated that on the pre-surgery documentation at the spot the questionnaire asked if there was anything I might be allergic to. During preparation at the hospital immediately prior to the surgery, Andra, the nurse, who was fabulous, commented that she saw the note on the paperwork. Some time while in the surgery room, normal preparation was done (cleaning, disinfecting, etc) related to the surgery. It was very obvious the surgery room occupants paid no attention to the allergy comment on my paperwork, because I immediately broke out with a significant rash that goes from my waste to a few inches above my knees, across both left and right front sides. A week has gone by and the rash continues to be very painful. My primary doctor has prescribed an ointment to help the situation. Except for this situation with use of chlorhexidine, the entire process at the hospital was terrific. Our primary nurse, Andra, was especially impressive. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE. I've been here 3 times in the last 3 weeks. First for myself because I caught Covid and then my appendix ruptured, was septic, and was told by three different people that it was, wasn't, and possibly ruptured. Waited HOURS while in pain, barely staying conscious, and delirious for a surgery to remove it. They took so long to remove the appendix it caused damage in my right ovary. My youngest son was brought here, they FORGOT he was even there. They claimed he'd been discharged when we hadn't even seen a doctor yet and while he was fevering, and struggling with what turned out to be Covid, bronchitis turning into pneumonia. The third time is I brought my 2 year old in, they asked the SAME questions, didn't run tests, didn't take his illness seriously and let him fever on the bed for 4 fucking hours with a 104 fucking fever, severe diarrhea, and vomiting. Didn't do any testing, didn't do Jack shit for my son but leave us in a room to "monitor him" while he struggled to breath, fevered, tachycardic, and miserable. The level of care these people have for children is disgusting. They call themselves a hospital but can't seem to treat a child. read more

I was taken to St. Michael's a few weeks (by EMT's) ago suffering from acute back spasms. After the fire department dropped me off I was left in the hallway for seven hours. After the first three hours and asking for water from every employee going by my gurney, I was totally ignored until an attending nurse finally showed up. Needless to say, I was a little crabby by that point and all she could do was to defend herself that she hadn't seen me yet it and it wasn't her fault. (she gets even with me later) I was taken to get a CAT scan and they managed to lose my personal pack that had my wallet and overnight items in it on the way and they never even bothered to try to find me and my neighbors had to track it down the next day. After being there almost 7 hours in the hallway, a doctor came to me and suggested I should get an MRI...when I asked him how soon would that be? He replied he had no idea and said probably most other patients wouldn't want one either. It was going on 11 PM by that time and I believe I had gotten there around 3 o'clock and said I need to have you call me a taxi so I can go home. When the attending nurse came for my discharge, (this is where she gets even) I asked for a wheelchair and her reply was. "What do you need a wheelchair for you're going to have to walk from the taxi to your front door anyways". Fortunately, for her, my back spasms were so bad and I have to say I was in shock from that statement, but considering everything else, probably not a surprise. I replied, get me the wheelchair and amazingly enough didn't even swear at her. After they got me to the lobby to wait for the taxi, I was left to try to get myself up and had a total collapse in their lobby. Finally with the help of the 70-year-old cab driver, I was able to get into the taxi and go home with absolutely no relief from the spasms. None of this narration has been embellished and the account of my stay there is very accurate, and when the fire department tells you they would never bring any of their family members there you better believe it! read more

I ended up at St Michael for an emergency surgery while in town visiting my son and his family. I feel like it was a blessing that I ended here. Everybody I encountered, from the ER to recovery, it was a treat. Six nights on the 8th floor, I've never met a staff like the staff they have up there. I'd like to mention Jordana as the most caring and most on point RN I've ever imagined, her bedside manners were a gift. Then There is Rowena my CRN for four nights. Rowena stays on task her entire shift (7pm-7am) and is on the minute with her vitals, meds and check-ins. Everybody was extremely pleasant and made me feel as if I was in a five star resort. This is the worst hospital you could ever come to! Don't waste your time or risk your life by choosing this emergency hospital. First off they are way too overpriced! I paid approximately $5600 for about 15 minutes of their time. I waited in the waiting room extremely I'll and hallucinating from such a high fever for 10 hours. Which at this point I didn't know who I was or what I was doing here. They wouldn't allow my spouse to come into waiting room with me. After waiting 10 hours just to get to a exam room, the doctor came in and said take Ibuprofen for fever. I explained that I have been taking 800mg Ibuprofen already with no relief. The ER doctor said well there's not much else they could do for me. They didn't do any testing to see why I was running a fever of 103 degrees. It felt like they were sending me home to die. I am a healthy middle aged female and they didn't give a damn as to why I was running a fever. So after realizing I just wasted my whole day with no resolution and only talking to the doctor for 10 - 15 minutes. They sent me home. The next day I went to the hospital in Gig Harbor and found out I was septic from a kidney infection. I had to be hospitalized for a couple days and was able to go home. Silverdale Harrison Hospital is the absolute worst place you could ever go to get any kind of medical help. If I had not went to another hospital for help I would have died and they didn't give a crap. read more
