A CAUTIONARY TALE for future customers of St Nicholas Gun and Sporting Goods. In 2018, I was given a gift certificate with no expiration date to use at St Nicholas' new gun range. I took a friend for a range session. I used the gift certificate to pay for both of our range charges. There was a balance of approximately $48.00 on the gift certificate. I was handed a St Nicholas-branded receipt with the remaining balance handwritten. I stuffed the receipt in my gun bag. Years pass. While cleaning out my gun bag one day, I found the gift certificate receipt with the outstanding balance. Returned today for another range session. Pulled out the gift certificate balance, here again with no expiration date, to pay, and was told that it would not be honored. The reason? There was a new owner. My wife brought me and our daughters here to learn how to shoot handguns. She was in the military, and well knows how to handle one. We chose this facility and are really quite happy we did. Arturo was an excellent side coach and very helpful throughout our session. He helped make the whole experience fun and positive, both with his knowledge as well as his engaging personality. Great experience in the middle of the day on a weekday. We were the only customers in the store so we were able to browse and really shop. Jim provided a lot of good information and insight and was very helpful. We found out they are opening an indoor shooting range next week so that's pretty cool. Horrible customer service. First, the young man answered sounded like he was 18 and half asleep, and not articulate. When I asked if I could purchase a gun in the store while on vacation in JAX and have it shipped to back California ( I live in CAN) they said no because California is an as- hole to deal with. Every thing that I asked he had to yell & refer back to someone in the background, who wouldn't even get on the phone when I asked to speak to them and just get a little clarification and bypass the middle man, who was clueless. So why have someone else the phone that isn't able to give the proper Information and cannot transfer you to someone else???!! All I was told was that this is not a debate we don't ship the California because they are as-holes. Walked in and felt like I was as some women's event. I've never seen so many women in a gun store at the same time without husbands/boyfriends at their side. And no one was buying hunting weapons. There was at least one women in her 60's at the very least. Whatever way you take it... those same women are also choosing this place to make their purchases. I found clerks extremely knowledge on the weapons. But they were all trying to sell chicks shotguns or small 9mm. I understand the shotgun, but chicks can carry bigger then just 9's. This place is a great spot to get information and start your inital search on a weapon. Depending on item, the prices are slightly higher then others (maybe $50). I only wish there was a women shooting club that would advertise target lessons. read more

My girlfriend wanted to go look at a Wrangler 22 pistol. We looked at several then she told me the gun was for me! Nice surprise and one heck of a Valentine gift. Didn't end up with any of the single actions but did look at a SW CV 22 Victory. It fit my big hands well. Also looked at several other firearms from 500 Smith to a couple of old lever guns. Gentleman that waited on us was extremely patient and helpful. Ended up buying the Victory. Salesclerk got a few smiles out of us as I tried unsuccessfully to talk my girlfriend out of paying for the pistol. I filled out the necessary forms and while we waited for the state to approve the background check another salesman assisted my girlfriend in finding a concealed carry holster for her 380. We spoke with everyone in the store both behind the counter and customers. Everyone was pleasant. I have purchased several firearms here over the years and have never had a less than excellent experience. They have dealt fairly with me on trades, searches for specific guns, and routine purchases of ammo or accessories. I highly recommend St Nicholas Gun and Sporting Goods to anyone needing a firearm or just an answer to a sporting goods question. I went in to get some sights installed, and the same guy with the white goatee gave me stinkeye, answered my one question, didn't ask me if I needed help with anything else and went right back to whatever it was he was doing. I've been a customer here for 20+ years spanning all the way back to when it was called Southside Gun. The staff is always helpful and they have an incredible amount of inventory compared to the size of the business. You could say they have some old stock stuff still on hand from way back. They will always work with you on pricing and if you ask they will work with you which in the long run can save you some serious bucks on a large purchase. Ammo can be a little pricey compared to some of the chain retailers such as Wal-Mart, Academy Sports, etc. but gun shops are always higher on ammo because they just don't have the buying volume to compete with those big box stores. The inside of the store could use a facelift. It is really a old building and showing its age. Overall the shopping experience is fun and there is a ton of guns to look at. read more

Do not take your concealed weapons class at this gun store... You will overpay and be paying for services such as fingerprinting photographs and notary which is unnecessary. The $112 that is required by the state to process your concealed weapons permit includes having photographs taken electronic fingerprints recorded and notary services performed if you go to your local department of agriculture and consumer services office by appointment. The fact that this is an option is hidden from the unknowing customer by this business and therefore customers are tricked into thinking it is necessary to have this store perform these services at a premium price. I am not only disappointed in the deception of this process and overcharge for services not necessary but I am even further disappointed in how the employees conducted themselves when I return to the store to ask about this situation. You are wiser to take your business elsewhere. read more

i've traveled thur most every gun store and outlet in local duval area , and i would have to give credit to the boys at st.nicks . they've been a great resource of info and weapons. i collect mostly western and civil war era guns , big chris always seems to have a surprize for me and i have to say, i got a great price, and a willingness to work with me. as far as layaways, i've not had a problem and have used it several times, but ofcourse i was there to buy a gun and knew what i wanted, and they made it available for me to do so . if you go there on a wim just to kill time, do yourself, and the staff there a favor, and go to walmart or k-mart accross the street, you can get store credits there, if you get confused or your wife wants you to return it. unless you are a real beginner, or just trying to be fashionable to keep up with your friends, most gun owners know the rule, most gun shops dont take responcibility to service or maintain your gun. all of us have to send our problems with the weapon to the company mfg , and a simple call to them by reading the information given to you in the box it came in. they will send you free shipping postage for the weapon and send it back to you. visit the shop and get your own impression, ask the questions, know before you inquire, alittle about the weapon or style of shooting or hunting you intent to own and shoot. read more

These guys are the biggest rip off in town. They tried to charge me a $300 gun transfer fee. They said they sold the same weapon, and I had to pay $300 dollars for the transfer. This was after one of the sales guys said they'll only charge me $100 for the gun transfer fee, which I felt was still very high. The owner came out and kind of like raised his voice at me. He said he sold the same item and he could ship it back if I wasn't happy with his price. So, I had the owner ship my rifle back to Impact Guns. Impact Guns recived my rifle and told me it was badly damaged. It seems the owner kept the packing and just sent the rifle unprotected. Owner then called Impact Guns liars. I mean, Impact guns is the best and largest gun shop in America, and this small time gun shop is calling them liars. Needless to say, I contacted a Lawyer, it was more money for the Lawyer than the gun was worth. So, I had to sit on it and get the gun fixed. I ended up getting it transferred to a pawn shop for $75 bucks after impact guns fixed my expensive rifle. These guys are crooks, and very high priced. You're better off going to the gun gallery or buying online from impact guns and having it shipped to a licensed pawn shop. These people are crooks don't fall for their scams. read more
