It was a fun day in historic Grapevine, Texas for the 42nd Annual Main Street Fest. They shut down…read more7 blocks of Main Street for foot traffic and line the center of the road with food trucks and arts & craft booths. There was a full size carnival at the north end and a huge stage with live entertainment. There was also a high wire act over Main Street. They were celebrating their Golden Jubilee for Mayor Tate, having served for 50 years. As part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, it's nice that Grapevine has kept its unique flavor and charm. From vintage trains to glass blowing and blacksmithing and other artists, there are plenty of interesting things to see here. Don't forget the craft beer and local wines you can sample here, too.

The main stage has a covered area to sit and eat and drink and enjoy local entertainment in the shade. The huge carnival area was packed with kids and adults having fun. This year they added Ariel walkers which was so interesting. This is one of my favorite spring events I always look forward to and they didn't disappoint me again this year.

Apparently, this is the second annual festival here in downtown Carrollton. It was November 5, 2011 from 11am-11pm. I imagine that next year it'll be around the same time. The name "Festival at the Switchyard" comes from switchyard/railway tribute as there are 3-4 rail lines (including the shiny new DART rail) in the immediate area. It was actually a really cool festival! There were some vendor booths set up for various things (apparel, knick-nacks, etc) including FOOD. The real Fletcher's Corny Dogs had a booth there. Yes, the famous corny dogs from the State Fair were available here. They also had funnel cakes. Another booth had fresh spun cotton candy (with no crazy colorings added, just sugar), the one next to that had fresh squeezed lemonade. Agave Azul (best Mexican place ever) had a booth, right outside their restaurant, selling beef fajitas. There was beer/wine available from a couple of booths... PLUS all of the shops on the square were open. Many of these places being restaurants, which serve booze. I don't know if Agave let people take margaritas outside, but you could always ask! In addition to all of this, they had tons of bands/acts going on all day. Some were in the small gazebo in the square and some were on a big ass stage right next to Agave. The headliner was Third Eye Blind (Hello, 90's flashback!) and they stuck right to their schedule and went on stage at 930pm. They put on a really good show, and it was nice to see them back in town so soon following Taste Addison. If you get the chance to see these guys live and dig the 90's nostalgia of jamming to their hits, then I recommend it. We got there late, because we mostly wanted to see 3eB. But it was still a lot of fun. And most importantly, FREE. Parking is free (though incredibly limited) at the DART station nearby, at various spots surrounding the square, and some people even parked under the 35 overpass. No tickets to buy (like the State Fair) for food, but make sure you've got cash. They did have ATMs available right on Broadway st, but the transaction fee was almost $4 (plus, whatever your bank is going to charge you).. I learned my lesson and will next time just bring cash with me. The biggest problem we encountered was that by the time the headlining band went on, a lot of booths were already completely shut/packing up (out of product), and other booths were out of popular items (out of funnel cakes at 9pm??) and certain kinds of beer. Overall, this was really fun. I'm super glad it was free, but if there were a small entry fee next year (and I mean small- not the way the Wildflower Festival has started gouging people the past 10 years), I'd be happy to support the city where I live by buying a ticket. I highly recommend that people carpool, check the schedule for bands/events/kids things, and plan accordingly. The square is really quite small and I can imagine that it was quite crowded for a lot of the day. Looking at the website, I see that Yelp had a booth there, but I sure missed it! :( Maybe they were shut down by the time I got there (or, quite possibly, I'm blind). For example face painting,which was beautiful by the way, had at least 40 kids in live. We didn't partake in anything like that which included all of the rides and bouncy items... Not all 40 per line but long lines none the less. In any event the crafts and games were a hit with my kids and I was happy to hear other music such as pop like music that the kids enjoy. Hats off to all the volunteers!!!!

I will go out on a limb here, I don't believe you will find a better Bluegrass festival anywhere in the country. 'But this Texas, there ain't any Bluegrass here'-you might say. Well you would be wrong. It's alive and very well right here in Framers Branch. Every act could be or has been or will be a headliner at any other festival that usually might have only one 'big name'. I have managed in two events to see everyone of my favorites. If you love great musicianship and acoustic music this is a can't miss show. I am anxious to see who will come next year. It has pictures of how the sculptures were made. You can buy some souvenirs such as postcards, T-shirts, book about the history of the mustangs, pins, etc. I was fortunate that they had 20 percent off. The lady at the museum was very sweet and helpful. The museum definitely needs upgrades in technology. She wrote down the original total of my merchandise, calculated the discount on a calculator, wrote down the discount, entered each item on the computer. It was really time consuming. They also didn't accept Apple Pay.

Here are a few tips to make sure you get the most out of the weekend: - Arrive early to the wine stroll on Friday night, drink a bit, then leave. It gets packed and by mid-event, some vendors will start running out of wine. I overheard that they accidentally oversold this event, but the lines and crowds were out of control. - We missed the after-pARTy at Gables 17 due to poor planning. Le sigh. Be sure and double check (heck, even TRIPLE check!) the times on the website to make sure you arrive on time. - If you can only make one event, make sure it's the Reserve Tasting. The selection is impeccable, the lines are short and the crowd is small. It's a dressier and classier event for those who really enjoy wine to make the most of it. It was by far my favorite event all weekend. - The International Grand Tasting is a cattle call with massive crowds. However, they do a great job and keeping it as organized as possible. Either get there early to get in line, or make buddies with a sponsor so you can jump ahead. Once inside, hit the tables/booths in the back where no one is; you'll get the best food and drinks back there anyway. Whatever you do, just be patient. It's a popular event that keeps growing, and even with the crowds, I plan on going back next year!

It's a gigantic spread which is half wine, beer, and liquor so you won't have to leave thirsty or sober. The other half is food samples from various high-end restaurants. If you rush through the whole thing you might be able to visit every station, but I'd set some priorities because the best ones will run out before the end. Also, it's very difficult to try the food whilst holding a glass of wine or beer. A tray with a drink holder would have been a welcome addition. Highlights: - D Magazine cover photo. - Carrot cake in a shots glass. - Trying sweetbreads for the first time. (loved 'em!) - Pork belly at the culinary institute. It was definitely a super fun and cool experience, but I don't think I'd pay the full price ($85-$100) to do it again. But if another discount ticket pops up in the future, I'm so there! Tip: Show up 20-30min early to get in line for admission. Or just show up 20-30min late and walk right in.

The electrifying performances from Rae Lynn and En Vogue this year made the whole crowd with our blinking Reliant Santa hats clapping and dancing! The anticipation grew with the countdown to the magnificent lighting of a million lights to the trees, followed by a jaw dropping fireworks display! Worth the wait were the long lines for photo opt with Santa, to be photographed in front of a brilliant star motif, and for a couple glasses of wine in hand! The fireworks were spectacular…read more Went to this event a few years ago (I think they started in 2012), it was a little different. They lost the food trucks this year. Instead, they had concession booths this time around. Also, they lost the snow rink, which was real fun and replaced them with free Santa photo-op and kid's crafts activity. They also lost a great light show. They projected lights onto big buildings a couple years ago and made it a dynamic show. This year, they just projected a static logo onto the huge buildings. Having said all that, the main activities stayed the same, which was free give-aways of blinking twinkling Reliant santa hats, fireworks, and concert. I probably won't spend $17 for Lexus parking in the future. It's much easier to park elsewhere than going around trying to find Lexus parking.
