I visited Christ the King Church for a Quiet Retreat on a Saturday in February 2026. I also visited…read morethe church for a Sunday morning church service back in December 2025. Prior to both of these days, I was given a quick tour of the church on a day after service, back in October 2025 by a friend who attends the church. Christ the King Church is part of the Vineyard Churches group of Christian churches. The church has a beautiful sanctuary inside that is fairly large with plenty of seating. The Sunday morning message by the Pastor is similar to other messages that I've heard from other non-denominational churches. The December 2025 church service that I attended was their Christmas service (it wasn't on Christmas Day). Their choir sang traditional Christmas carols and the piano player played organ sounds. It was lovely. The Quiet Retreat in February 2026 was a free and wonderful event. It was a Saturday spent with reading parts of scripture (The Holy Bible), praying as a group and individually, journaling (optional), and spending time alone in the church. With so much noise around us in the world, it was nice to spend the day in a little silence. The Quiet Retreat lasted from around 8am to 3:30pm and I had fun. The church provided snacks, tea, and lunch. It appears that they plan to do this retreat again so check their Instagram page or church website if you are interested in attending. Peace Community Church (PCC) is an amazing church. I attended it back when it was still called…read more"First Baptist Church". It is very small and yet very diverse, being populated by people from all walks of life who come together to worship and to engage in the various programs that this church runs. This church is absolutely centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ as put forth in the four gospels. It is always radical: not in a watered-down, politically-correct sort of way, but in a real-world, real-results sort of way. I cannot recall any sermons that did not make me question my values in some deep sort of way. At the same time, this church is not dogmatic: questioning and thinking is always encouraged. This church is a place to learn and grow; the people here are not concerned with identifying yourself with one particular religion or denomination but rather just want to help people come to know and understand the teachings of Jesus and how they can be relevant to our lives and our world. The service and liturgy is a blend between progressive and traditional...creeds are avoided and the service is very open-minded, but traditional hymns are sung and the service and teachings are not watered-down or made politically correct as in many "liberal" churches. I think this is one of those few churches that cannot be labeled as "liberal" or "conservative", even though it is far from moderate. PCC has rich music which changes greatly from year to year. Mary Hammond, the one pastor, plays piano every-other service. A number of Oberlin students volunteer their various musical talents, and there is a very small but engaging choir. The people and the community here are the most amazing part of this church. People here are friendly and welcoming, and their friendliness is deep and sincere. They not only talk to you but actually want to get to know you. People here won't ask you to be someone you're not and won't judge you based on preconceived notions of who you are or who you should be. From the moment I set foot in here, I have always felt that I could be myself and be completely honest in this church, and I very rarely feel this in churches, especially ones I am new to or visiting. I am very grateful that this church was my first exposure to a real church community. Sadly, I have found that it is the exception, rather than the norm, among Protestant churches in America. I would recommend this church especially to people who find that they have become frustrated with churches. In particular, the people in this community are aware with both the problems of the dogmatic attitudes in conservative churches and the wishy-washy attitudes in liberal churches...they have somehow found a way to address all these issues together and create a church that does what a church should do--helping people to learn and grow on their spiritual journey, and to understand the teachings of Jesus on a deep level, with direct relevance to their daily lives.

How blessed am I that I can be the first one to review this!…read more I have to say for starters, I was skeptical of this place from the beginning. But little did I realize the good fruit that takes place essentially in our backyard in a little farm town of North Ridgeville. My first experience regarding this place was when I went to Adoration one day at St. Anthony's in Lorain more than 2-3 years ago -- this lady handed me pamphlets about the place. I said there is no way this is real, and even the diocese of Cleveland "admonished" it. So, I shook it off without really looking more into it. I was really into apparitions and miracles at that time because it is what brought me back to the faith in the Fall of 2017, thanks to the movie based on a true story, Miracles From Heaven. But for some reason, I got dismissive about this place -- could it have been Satan/his demons influencing me? One would think... Little did I know that when I went to Adoration at St. Joseph recently that a different lady would tell me all of this... which had me in awe and shock: -- Profound stories/experiences that people had there. I even checked with a couple people I knew and they had extraordinary stories/experiences to tell as well, even leading to a marriage discernment. -- The on-going apparitions of Mary, Jesus, God the Father, and the Saints have been going on since the mid 80s to this visionary and learning about her story and the people who now work at the ministry as well are amazing. -- How this ministry, despite a lot of adversity (just like Medjugorje), has been around for 30 years and is still aligned to the Catholic teaching and Scripture, despite being ecumenical, allowed by Canon law. -- A well-known author (Wayne Weible) who was well invested in Medjugorje and his conversion to the faith through the Blessed Mother was skeptical himself. But he saw the good fruit as well when he came here. He even wrote a book about it (Intimate Messages from Heaven). Many connections to Medjugorje. -- This place has been endorsed by other Archbishops from different dioceses/places around the world and scholars of Marian apparitions have said that to say what's going on here is bad and the apparitions aren't authentic would be complete and utter ignorance to what has been revealed since the beginning, throughout the living Word of God in Scripture. I could go on and on. The fact of the matter is, just like the diocese of Cleveland, I initially judged it for what it was and never discerned carefully as to whether this place had established good fruit (just as Jesus taught us), and was in fact aligned to Catholic teaching and Scripture. After all, it is private revelation... you have to look at the Saints throughout history who have had private revelations and had undergone condemnation from the Church and overcome so much adversity (St. Faustina and St. Padre Pio come to mind). But, the fruits are what ultimately mattered, and they turned out to be great Saints in the modern era. And so... I decided to go today, and for some reason July 31 was the day I picked out the week before, which amazingly enough is the day Catholics celebrate St. Ignatius' memorial -- he wrote about the discernment of Spirits. I didn't realize that until after. I don't believe in coincidences anymore. When I got there, it was like standing on holy ground. All you could feel was peace and consolation. Definitely a discernment of the good spirit. The Holy Spirit was within you, and Jesus, Mary, and the Angels were beside you in Spirit all throughout the journey of the site to the different areas of devotion. It was remarkable. I soaked it all in for 3 hours walking to each devotion area and being with God, Mary, and the Angels. I didn't go into the chapel, bookstore, or the main building, but next time I'll have to check that out. I'd be remiss if I didn't say -- Just go...see...experience it yourself. You don't know what wonders God can do for you at any point in your life. Healing is a wonderful gift God can give, whether it be spiritual, physical, emotional, mental -- He can go anything for you, even if we have little faith; be open to it and you will see wonders.
