I know Hotel Saint Regis has received some mixed reviews, so I wanted to share my experience because my particular stay was a very positive one. This is an older historic hotel rather than a brand-new luxury property, and I think understanding that before arriving makes a difference. I actually enjoyed the fact that the hotel has its own history and personality instead of feeling exactly like every other modern hotel. One of my favorite things about staying here was the location. The Fisher Building and Fisher Theatre are extremely close, and getting around this part of Detroit is convenient. If you're coming to the area for a show or simply want to explore more of the city, the location can be a major advantage. My room was actually very good, and I particularly appreciated the good view from my window at Floor 5. I realize other reviewers have reported different experiences, so I can only judge the room that I personally received. The employees were also very passionate and nice. Good customer service can completely change how a hotel stay feels, and the employees cleaned the trash. That made me feel welcomed rather than like I was simply another room number. I also really enjoyed knowing that I was staying somewhere with genuine Detroit history. The Saint Regis has been around since the 1960s and has hosted some remarkable guests over the decades. There aren't many hotels where the history itself becomes part of the experience. Would I call this a flawless, ultra-modern luxury hotel? No. It's an older property, and based on other reviews, experiences can clearly vary between rooms. But five stars represents my own experience, and my stay gave me exactly what I needed: great view, Impractical Jokers show on TV, and a silly hat and sunglasses from a store nearby. I booked a one-night stay at Hotel St. Regis in Detroit for August 14, 2026. Unfortunately, I never actually stayed at the hotel because I was so dissatisfied with the condition of the room. As soon as I entered the room and saw its condition, I turned around and went back to the front desk. I explained that I was not satisfied and could not stay in the room. The staff member told me there were no other rooms available and advised me to contact Agoda regarding a refund. I followed those instructions and contacted Agoda immediately. Because I had to find accommodations at the last minute, I ended up paying approximately double for another hotel. I was especially disappointed because this property was advertised as renovated. Based on the room I was assigned, that description did not match what I personally experienced. To make matters worse, I am now having to go through an extended process trying to obtain a refund even though I checked out immediately and never stayed in the room. Travelers should know about my experience before booking. Had the room been in acceptable condition or another room been available, this could have been handled very differently. Stayed here after a wedding nearby. Most of the attendees at the wedding booked a room in a block at this hotel. It was nice that they offered special pricing if you booked in the block (which I think is standard of most hotels anyways). The first and biggest problem was the air conditioning. I had heard stories from people there for the wedding for 3 days straight that their room had AC issues. Thursday it was 85 degrees outside. Most of rooms were 80-86 degrees and the AC was not working. It was insane. I felt bad for the maintenance guy because he was doing his best to try and fix everything but it just seemed like something they should have tried to take care a few days in advance if they knew they had 100+ people coming in at the same time. We requested a renovated room and I don't even know if that's what we got. It was just very underwhelming for what is supposed to be a nice hotel. It's also weird that they don't have any food options inside? The lobby is really nice and the hotel bar looks great. The staff was friendly when we interacted with them. There is a small parking lot next door. If the hotel has a lot of guests staying, there probably won't be enough parking spaces for everyone which did happen to quite a few people I knew. read more

Review for Hotel St Regis Lobby appearance was clean and nice enough room rate very reasonable at 129 then when we told them we were here for Henry Ford Hospital we got an additional $20 off. It was clear the hotel was old and lots of wear and tear. Room smelled strongly of floral air freshener and furnishings were disappointing mini fridge looked like it had been beaten with sledge hammer. Air temperature in room was very cold and it was 24° outside. We turned temperature control up told front desk clerk it seemed too cold so she said they would have it checked and fixed while we were out. but the heat still mwas not working and after returning from dinner over 2 hrs later was was still 60 in room. Husband went to front desk twice because there was no phone in room. After second time we changed rooms. The second room was nicer and cleaner but noise from hallway was loud all night. read more

The older salt and pepper hair valet man was very rude. The younger man was very nice explaining I couldn't park in the lot because of an event and the older gentleman cut him off to be rude to me. What a wonderful stay. I visited Detroit, Michigan over Labor Day weekend and had chosen the St. Regis Hotel on W. Grand Boulevard. The architecture alone gave it a strong and elegantly classic look. Walking into the lobby, I noticed amazing Detroit artwork and stylized furniture. The concierge was friendly and check-in was very easy. I was a little taken a back when I asked if there was a nearby Target, CVS or Walgreens and they responded with a "You'll have to Google that." The hallway to my room was clean, nicely lit and very welcoming. My room had two types of screens for the windows. 1) That blocked out all sunlight, 2) That lightly filtered sunlight into the room and deterred people peeking in. The bed was soft and amazing, great fluffy pillows and a nice navy colored blanket at the foot of the bed. Other amenities include: mini fridge, iron, ironing board, easy to use television, microwave, great smelling lotion, shampoo, conditioner and soap! My Late piano teacher lived in the apartments, Decades ago. I went for the NYE party. $300 for the room, Fifty for mandatory valet parking. The party was Loud. Why amplify it to 120 dB?? Bad for the ears. My earplug case was on my keyring. Also, the food line was an hour long. NO pizza or carving station by the time I got to the front. No Dessert, either. The room was comfy, But NO alarm clock. And...the heat pump would cut off during the night...65 F when I woke up. The wakeup call button didb't work, Either. And.. NO Breakast if Any Kind! Beautiful hotel. Great location on Grand Ave, with a kind Staff. If I could rate them separately, they would get Five Stars. Upon check in, I was informed that: the hotel was old and to leave the blinds and curtains closed for maximum cooling/ no one would service the hotel room due to COVID19/leave trash or towels outside/ice could only be provided by the supervisor or manager, and they weren't always on duty. If they'd told me this when I called in to make the reservation, this review would have been about an Airbnb. I believe the hotel was taken over by a new company last year. Perhaps renovating is still in the works. When I compare what I paid to what I got, the cost difference has to be going towards making room quality better for the next occupant. Even with the blinds down for 4 days, the room never got cooler. At one point I opened the door to allow the cool air from the hallway to enter in. But I must say thank you to Hotel St. Regis. The revolving toilet seat, added an air of mystery that kept me on my toes (pun intended). Firm thighs and calves are never a bad thing. When/if this hotel gets the love and care it deserves. I have never left a very bad review, but after my night here- I feel like I have to. This was quite possibly the worst hotel stay of my entire life. Let's start at the beginning. I pull up to where it says "valet" and no one is there. I wait about 5 minutes and no one comes. I try to call the front desk (3 times!) and the number was out of service. I ended up parking in what I assumed to be the hotels lot- but I was guessing. I check in, asked if it was alright if I parked in the lot and was told "yeah probably." Strange- I walked into my room which was right across from the elevator and immediately noticed it was humid and the air was thick. The door to the bathroom was also closed, which I thought was odd. I go into the bathroom and the shower was running. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't budge. I went back to the front desk and asked if I could switch rooms as I didn't want to listen to running water all night but there was no rooms available (I find that hard to believe.) They told me they would send maintenance up. I left my room for a few hours to grab dinner and returned around 10pm. I went up to my room and the shower wasn't fixed. I tried everything to make the noise stop (towels, closing the doors, etc) and nothing. I tried to turn on the AC for some white noise when I noticed about 20-30 ants allll over the windowsill. I went to the front desk AGAIN and asked about the shower (which apparently couldn't be fixed until the next day) and then I informed them of the ants and they said there was nothing they could do. It was outrageous. They did give me $25 dollars off my room (unhelpful, because I'll never get that night back) and I didn't sleep a wink between the ants, shower leaking, and the elevator noise. We stopped in the St. Regis for a few cocktails. I've been to the newly renovated hotel, but my friend wanted to check it out. He said it's been quite a few years since he's been there. We both found a few seats at the bar and decided to order some cocktails. My friend ordered a bourbon sour and I ordered a margarita. Our drinks were fantastic. Quite often the bar area will host a DJ and entertainment. We both enjoy live music. We were shocked when the manager bought us another round of drinks on the house! How cool was that! This was the filthiest hotel I have ever stayed at. Don't let the fancy main floor fool you, the rooms are absolutely repulsive. $200 wasted, I am NOT happy. The vent in the bathroom was unacceptable, CAKED with dust and dirt, the fan wouldn't even run. We opted to not even use the shower because it was so gross. I've stayed in $40 Red Roof Inns that were more impressive than this. Not to mention the paper thin doors they have on the rooms, I could have kicked the door down easy with just my socks on, and the gap under the door going into the hallway- could easily roll a tennis ball under it. Not safe. The gap is so large all of the light from the hallway floods into the room all night. I have never felt so scammed by a place before. What a complete waste of money. $200 DOWN THE DRAIN. We booked this as an express deal for a Foo Fighters concert which got canceled but we already paid for the room. On priceline this is listed under the "downtown Detroit " express deal which it is definitely not downtown. The hotel is newly and currently under renovation and looks stunning. The lobby bar is beautiful. Check in went great, lovely gentlemen. Its is $20 to self park your car in their lot with in/out privileges. Our room had a mini fridge no microwave yet but he said there was one available. I like to stay downtown within the range of the ppl mover but if not being downtown doesn't bother you definitely try the hotel yet. read more

Stayed here to attend a nearby wedding. The lobby and the hallways look decent. But It is hard to read the room numbers on the signs outside the rooms. The room itself was substandard, dirty and unattractive. No pictures on the walls. Boring, cramped, peeling veneer on the furniture, dirty and seedy. I took a shower and the shower had no drain plug. The water didn't drain while I was showering. Detroit is an amazing city and there are so many amazing photos of it that you could put on the walls. I am not sure who the owners or managers are of this hotel but for the money they charge, they should be able to make it a much more enjoyable customer experience. Right now, it sucks. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here. It just felt very dirty and frankly unsafe. read more

WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER. First off, no one was at the front desk. We had to say hello several times before someone came from the back to assist us. The hotel was a ghost town. Absolutely the worst hotel experience ever. The associate Gave my mother in law our room. Then he gave us a room already occupied. When we informed him, he then gave us another room. That one was occupied, by my in laws that had just checked in. After that, we were told our room wouldn't be ready until later. My husband called before we attempted our next arrival. The front desk informed us we would be upgraded to a suite and he would notate all the issues and the upgrade for the next front desk person. Upon our second arrival, the front desk associate had NO notations from the first associate and attempted to give us keys to my in laws room AGAIN. The associate then had to check to see if the suite we were promised was clean. Finally we got a room. My in laws room had no heat and they had to be placed in another room. This was all on THANKSGIVING. The suite had peeling wallpaper, carpet was coming up, the bed was hard and we only had hot water (no cold water at all) cleanliness was lacking. The bar area did not open after being told it would open at 5. We will never stay at this hotel again. Unorganized, unprofessional, more training and staff is definitely needed. read more

This visit was so disappointing. We stayed here because of its proximity to the theater where we were seeing a late (9:30 pm) show. We were able to get a drink at the bar prior to the show, but after the show, it was already closed. The place was pretty deserted, and we were surprised. The bartender was very nice and also explained the restaurant was never reopened after Covid. We had already planned to eat outside of the hotel, but I've never seen a hotel without some sort of eating options. There was a vending machine, where I purchased two bottles of water, since the hotel doesn't even provide that. The room was adequately cleaned, but the HVAC was roaring on and off all night, I barely slept. Waking up early, my husband headed downstairs, hoping to get some coffee. There were only two paper cups (I also saw them there the night before) and a filthy machine, so that was a miss. There is no breakfast area, absolutely no amenities, and this was not a cheap stay. We were so frustrated, we just checked out. Didn't bother hanging around downtown, or showering, we just went home. This is such an iconic building and a HUGE disappointment. read more

I was under the impression that St. Regis is a Marriott property but I was only able to book thru Booking.com not Marriott.com because it apparently is not although advertising says otherwise. I chose the St. Regis Hotel for the convenience of being able to walk to the Fisher Theatre without going outside. My mom & I were in the area to see the musical CATS on Tues. Sept. 10 for her birthday. I woke up with an unexplainable migraine, think I found out why...We checked in at 3pm, the gentleman at the front desk claimed they didn't have any queen rooms available but if we didn't mind he could put us in a double. We THOUGHT that wouldn't be a problem...hmmmm. We were first put in room #310. I called downstairs and now Ryan is covering the desk. I informed him that the left curtain is hanging/falling down, the door stopper is missing so there's a hole in the wall where the doorknob hits it, the room is cold & the heat hasn't turned on after waiting 5 minutes (he advised us to just keep the thermostat in the OFF position & the room should warm up; well it was already in OFF position so now what?!?), the toilet paper holder is broken & hanging upside down which the housekeeper knew about AND the toilet doesn't flush. He said he'd see if he could get in touch with maintenance & call me back. He did after a few minutes but claimed he couldn't reach anyone. (With all the maintenance issues we saw, this had us thinking there has been NO maintenance working at this hotel for awhile & based on the other YELP reviews I think we're right!) Ryan transferred us to room #312. THOUGHT this solved our problems. Still had issue with toilet not flushing properly, it did as long as we held the handle down. We washed our hands in lukewarm water; the water never seemed to get hot, it actually got colder after toilet refilled. At check in a female employee gave us directions how to walk from the hotel thru their restaurant to the Fisher Theater. We headed that way around 7:15pm. The musical was just ok. We left at intermission because I still wasn't feeling well & fortunately we headed back when we did because we weren't told we couldn't get back to the hotel thru their restaurant because it closes at 9pm! We got to the locked doors a few minutes before 9pm. Luckily a nice male employee heard us knocking on the door, saw our CATS programs, opened the door & let us walk through. Despite all of this we slept pretty well. NOW for the morning after...I still had a migraine when I woke around 6:15am but it was easing up. I checked my cell & noticed an alert appeared at 3:41am for a pending charge from St. Regis for $70.08. I figured they took the $50 incidental hold AGAIN & charged me $20 for valet ANYWAYS when Ryan said they would just take that out of the $50 hold but why the 8 cents?!? I called the desk again, this time Kenya answered & claimed the gentleman that checked us in was still new & didn't do the transaction correctly so it didn't appear that the $50 hold was placed on our room. Not sure how that was true when I received an alert from my bank immediately after he did at 3pm. She apologized & said the charges would be reversed at checkout. That's fine but that's not putting my money back in my account at checkout. (I had to call my bank Thursday, explain the situation so they'd release my funds.) Approximately an hour later my mom & I were disturbed by loud noises coming from the construction workers' tools/machines. I understand they need to renovate but starting AFTER 8 or 9am would've been acceptable (NOT 7am) or consideration from front desk staff by not putting guests in areas of hotel that the crew would be working on early in the morning would've been appreciated. After an hour of this annoyance I told my mom we need to checkout ASAP! I attempted to take a shower but...NO HOT WATER!!!!!!! I called the desk AGAIN to notify them of this & was told there's been no calls from other guests about the water but she'll find a room that has hot water so we can shower. I guess she just hadn't had any guests call about the water YET because once again based on the YELP reviews NO HOT WATER has been an issue at St. Regis for awhile. Shortly afterwards security brought us keys for room #305. I thought about how ridiculous this was & just threw the keys on the tv stand; we washed up in lukewarm water, packed our bags & went to checkout. The manager Tammy was at the desk now. She was very polite, apologetic & even took the valet charge off my bill. Although this was the second worst hotel experience I've ever had in 53 years, I must end on a positive note...I'm giving this review two stars instead of one based on the staff. Despite all the issues we were having, they were all very nice, professional & always tried to rectify the situation. We might give St. Regis another try after renovations have been completed & hopefully that'll be a more positive review. read more

My son hosted a surprise engagement celebration with his fiancé for family and close friends on May 22, 2021. In preparation for the event, OZ was very gracious in assisting us with the planning which included providing the bar in the lobby for the evening. We appreciated his dilligence as well as the hotel's observation of COVID restrictions and protocols for the safety of all. The area was clean, prepped and ready for us to use as promised on the date of the event. The it turned out to be momentous occasion thanks to OZ and his staff which included Tiara, Sal and Bernard. I could give it more stars cause they are under construction. However, my stay there was not like years ago. They have downsized their rooms, and the rooms are Bland, no art. We had to go to the downstairs bar for Ice, and the bartender acted like we did something wrong when we told them there were no ice machines on any floor. I think they wanted a tip. Our stay was not like I pictured it to be, mainly because we paid for a top-notch room and got a very small room. Very bland paint and no art. They will have to do better for me to go there anymore because I remember how St.Regis was back in the day. I've never written a review in my entire life but this hotel is so terrible I am dedicating the time to write one. To start off there was no fridge, no microwave, no bathroom fan and the A/C fan never turned off. I was there on a business trip and all room and parking fees were to be charged to the company credit card. I had to give them my card for "incidentals" though when I checked in. Day after I check in I see the hotel has charged me $800! I immediately spoke with the clerk at the check-in desk and he proceeded to tell me my card never should have even been authorized for that charge in the first place. A motel 6 would be luxury compared to this place. 0/5 stars I guess I'm lucky there were no bed bugs and my room wasn't flooding, but you would think for the amount of money and headache they give you there would be offered meals (such as breakfast??) but no luck there either. read more

Booked and paid for 1 night 2 adults queen double room. Arrived at check in but their were no rooms cleaned yet. 50 minute wait and they had a room for us on the 3rd floor. Can I get Ice, No, wait till the bar opens at 5. Bar wasn't open by 5. Is there a restaurant, No McDonalds is to the right. Room is cold (62) Maintenance will look at it. Went to our event and returned to a 55 degree room and maintenance was not available on the weekends. Front desk explained how to reprogram the heat unit. It resets to a/c mode every 30 minutes, So we were up all night trying to keep from freezing. I asked for extra blankets because of cold room, they don't have any. I asked to change rooms, none are cleaned. Bed was horrid. My backpacking sleep rig is softer than this thing. Gave us 1 wash cloth and 1 hand towel asked for and extra for my travel companion, Sorry housekeeping has gone home, maybe she can get one in the morning. No microwave. No coffee or food in the morning, find a restaurant, hurry up and check out. Then they hit us with $20 parking fee after booking and associated fees. View: Roof tops and parking garage. Meh. This place kind of sucks. Some very basic things missing. Here are the pros and cons. Pro: good idea to get rid of carpet in the rooms. They feel cleaner. Hotel carpet just gets gross. Pro: nice location, historic building, nice front view. Con: cannot control temp in your own room? Wtf? It was so hot for late March, and the heat kept pumping through. We finally had to leave the window open the entire time. Con: shower. Why was there no hot water at 7:30 am when I showered? At minimum, I should be able to control my own climate/comfort. You won't let me adjust the room temp, and I can't get hot water? These are BASIC amenities. This alone, made me want to complain, and inspired me to write this. Con: poor design. Thanks for the single, tiny nightstand and it's lamp with the giant base. You can't put anything on the table but that lamp! SMH Con: poor/dim lighting. So dark in the room. WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD!!! Our family was trying to get a room block here for a wedding, we visited, talked to staff in person, and received contract (that had wrong dates/number of rooms, etc.). Once we asked for new contract with correct info we waited through a dozen phone calls, false promises, and 5 months for them to tell us they are not honoring rate. Was relocated from the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center on 6/7/17 due to overbooking. Ugh. Three people stood around the front desk checking myself and a colleague in one at a time. The rooms were awful - broken deadbolt, dirty bathroom, light bulbs out, paint on the wallpaper, water damaged ceilings, garbage in the hallways. I travel often for work - this is the first time I felt unsafe in a hotel. read more

I booked this place through Priceline for $185. Checked in and discovered a gross mess (probably food) on the bedcovers that I could not unsee, but my fears of unwashed comforters were confirmed. There were smaller stains on the chair and lamp shade and a carpet shampoo smell about the place. Bathtub faucet was dripping at a good clip. I called the front desk and they handled my refund request handily, without fuss, and for that I am giving 2 stars. Good people. I am befuddled by their parking situation. Their half empty parking lot is for valet only, but surely they could charge $15 or $20 for the night and allow guests to come and go? read more
