What a wonderful stay. I visited Detroit, Michigan over Labor Day weekend and had chosen the St. Regis Hotel on W. Grand Boulevard. The architecture alone gave it a strong and elegantly classic look. Walking into the lobby, I noticed amazing Detroit artwork and stylized furniture. The concierge was friendly and check-in was very easy. I was a little taken a back when I asked if there was a nearby Target, CVS or Walgreens and they responded with a "You'll have to Google that." The hallway to my room was clean, nicely lit and very welcoming. My room had two types of screens for the windows. 1) That blocked out all sunlight, 2) That lightly filtered sunlight into the room and deterred people peeking in. The bed was soft and amazing, great fluffy pillows and a nice navy colored blanket at the foot of the bed. Other amenities include: mini fridge, iron, ironing board, easy to use television, microwave, great smelling lotion, shampoo, conditioner and soap! Roaming on the lobby level I saw a round bar and cocktail lounge and lots of comfortable couches.

I came for a birthday party and to my chagrin 1 bartender waited in line for 20 Min before I gave up and went in search of another bar sad because the venue is nice and upscale

We stopped in the St. Regis for a few cocktails. I've been to the newly renovated hotel, but my friend wanted to check it out. He said it's been quite a few years since he's been there. We both found a few seats at the bar and decided to order some cocktails. My friend ordered a bourbon sour and I ordered a margarita. Our drinks were fantastic. Quite often the bar area will host a DJ and entertainment. We both enjoy live music. We were shocked when the manager bought us another round of drinks on the house! How cool was that! We will most certainly be back to the St. Regis.

This was the filthiest hotel I have ever stayed at. Don't let the fancy main floor fool you, the rooms are absolutely repulsive. $200 wasted, I am NOT happy. The vent in the bathroom was unacceptable, CAKED with dust and dirt, the fan wouldn't even run. We opted to not even use the shower because it was so gross. I've stayed in $40 Red Roof Inns that were more impressive than this. Not to mention the paper thin doors they have on the rooms, I could have kicked the door down easy with just my socks on, and the gap under the door going into the hallway- could easily roll a tennis ball under it. Not safe. The gap is so large all of the light from the hallway floods into the room all night. I have never felt so scammed by a place before. What a complete waste of money. $200 DOWN THE DRAIN. Oh and the cherry on top, BUGS. See attached pictures.

Tap isn't anything to write home about as far as food that I was able to eat there, but my friend did enjoy the salmon. D.Prime is great - I highly recommend the corn!! The coffee spot does what it does - the best thing is that it's open 24 hours and they have a nice variety of pastries and snacks. This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

The location is definitely the highlight, it's right next to Tigers Stadium, close to Ford Field, and within walking distance of the NBA arena, plus tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. If you're in town for a game or event, the location is hard to beat. That said, the hotel itself felt small and a bit cramped. The room was on the smaller side, and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable for a hotel at this price point (around ~$350/night). For that cost, I expected wayyy more space and comfort. One downside was the hotel bar,I couldn't even get a seat and didn't realize you needed a reservation, which was frustrating and took away from the experience. It's not a bad hotel by any means, and it has a cool vibe, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get. Decent stay, great location just not sure the value is there.
