What a wonderful stay. I visited Detroit, Michigan over Labor Day weekend and had chosen the St. Regis Hotel on W. Grand Boulevard. The architecture alone gave it a strong and elegantly classic look. Walking into the lobby, I noticed amazing Detroit artwork and stylized furniture. The concierge was friendly and check-in was very easy. I was a little taken a back when I asked if there was a nearby Target, CVS or Walgreens and they responded with a "You'll have to Google that." The hallway to my room was clean, nicely lit and very welcoming. My room had two types of screens for the windows. 1) That blocked out all sunlight, 2) That lightly filtered sunlight into the room and deterred people peeking in. The bed was soft and amazing, great fluffy pillows and a nice navy colored blanket at the foot of the bed. Other amenities include: mini fridge, iron, ironing board, easy to use television, microwave, great smelling lotion, shampoo, conditioner and soap! Roaming on the lobby level I saw a round bar and cocktail lounge and lots of comfortable couches.

I came for a birthday party and to my chagrin 1 bartender waited in line for 20 Min before I gave up and went in search of another bar sad because the venue is nice and upscale

We stopped in the St. Regis for a few cocktails. I've been to the newly renovated hotel, but my friend wanted to check it out. He said it's been quite a few years since he's been there. We both found a few seats at the bar and decided to order some cocktails. My friend ordered a bourbon sour and I ordered a margarita. Our drinks were fantastic. Quite often the bar area will host a DJ and entertainment. We both enjoy live music. We were shocked when the manager bought us another round of drinks on the house! How cool was that! We will most certainly be back to the St. Regis.

This was the filthiest hotel I have ever stayed at. Don't let the fancy main floor fool you, the rooms are absolutely repulsive. $200 wasted, I am NOT happy. The vent in the bathroom was unacceptable, CAKED with dust and dirt, the fan wouldn't even run. We opted to not even use the shower because it was so gross. I've stayed in $40 Red Roof Inns that were more impressive than this. Not to mention the paper thin doors they have on the rooms, I could have kicked the door down easy with just my socks on, and the gap under the door going into the hallway- could easily roll a tennis ball under it. Not safe. The gap is so large all of the light from the hallway floods into the room all night. I have never felt so scammed by a place before. What a complete waste of money. $200 DOWN THE DRAIN. Oh and the cherry on top, BUGS. See attached pictures.

This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

It has an old school vibe to the place and isn't your cookie cutter hotel. The lobby is beautifully decorated in Victorian decor. There is a coffee shop and speakeasy located on the first floor. The location is definitely the highlight, it's right next to Tigers Stadium, close to Ford Field, and within walking distance of the NBA arena, plus tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. If you're in town for a game or event, the location is hard to beat. That said, the hotel itself felt small and a bit cramped. The room was on the smaller side, and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable for a hotel at this price point (around ~$350/night). For that cost, I expected wayyy more space and comfort. One downside was the hotel bar,I couldn't even get a seat and didn't realize you needed a reservation, which was frustrating and took away from the experience. It's not a bad hotel by any means, and it has a cool vibe, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get. Decent stay, great location just not sure the value is there.

My Titanium status got me an upgrade to the 23rd floor and I was able to access the Westin Club there, which is what they call their concierge lounge. Free snacks and breakfast was available. The room was comfortable and clean with plenty of space for spreading out my stuff. The bed was also comfortable though the "Westin mattress" is showing some wear. Sullivan's in the lobby is rather expensive. There's also a Starbucks in the lobby. I'll be back in Detroit soon enough. I'll be aiming for this hotel. We went right up to our room and it was so dope! I loved the windows and scenery! The layout was beautiful. The bathroom was so spacious and everything was clean. They did have to come fix the blinds because they wouldn't go down but that was done fairly quickly. The room service was a tad slow but they told us they were very busy before we placed our order. The dinner food was pretty good. Even the breakfast was yummy! Now let's hit the highlight event of that weekend: LOVE GAMES - A VALENTINES DAY CARNIVAL. That event was so fun! Not only was the food delicious, but the games were fun too! The competitiveness was all in the room. It was fun to play and watch! And the staff were absolutely phenomenal! They gave you the rules, cheered you on, and were funny commentators. And then whoever wins gets tickets that you collect for a grand prize. And lets not forget to mention the open bars! That's always must! It was nice to see a mixed crowd having a good time. Of course there was a dj, a host, and a hustle instructor on the the dance floor teaching and dancing. We found out at the end as we collected our tickets that the prize was a cute teddy bear and a voucher to come back to the hotel for dinner. The atmosphere was so positive and filled with Detroit love.

I checked in digitally, which was convenient, and throughout my stay I noticed the front desk staff was great in terms of customer service. Unfortunately, my experience started off on a negative note with valet. I pulled up needing to quickly run up to my room and asked if there was a place I could briefly park for a couple of minutes. I was told no and that I would have to valet my car. When I explained I'd be right back down, the response was basically that there were no other options. For a quick stop, that felt unnecessary and inconvenient, especially on a busy Saturday with limited parking. It turned what should have been a simple moment into a frustrating one. The room itself was nice, clean, and comfortable. However, I selected my room expecting a street view, and the actual view was extremely limited and blocked. Since I planned to spend a good amount of time in the room, this was disappointing. I do think there should be more transparency or a disclaimer for rooms with obstructed views. I also visited the rooftop during my stay. The host was great and welcoming, but the bartender experience was just okay, nothing particularly memorable. The next morning, I ordered room service. The process wasn't as seamless as it should have been -- the QR code on the menu didn't include all of the options listed on the physical menu, so I still had to call to place my order. My traditional breakfast with a mimosa came out to about $50, and for that price, I honestly would have preferred to just dine at Hamilton's downstairs. Unfortunately, because it was Easter, they were only offering a buffet, so a standard breakfast wasn't even an option. That made the situation feel even more inconvenient. Because of my initial interaction, I chose not to use valet for the rest of my stay and opted for street parking instead. Overall, I would consider staying at The Godfrey again because I enjoy the property and the rooftop, but I would hope for a more accommodating and seamless experience next time.
