During the relatively brief time they were there in the Assisted Living facility, we were able to create a comfy, home-like atmosphere where the staff felt like family. After my father died we went in to clean out his room and it was in great shape even without us being inside for 10 months. My mother has been living at St. Regis since 2013. Her Alzheimer's is progressing. She was originally in the Assisted Living wing & now is in the Memory Care wing. Before my mother, her mother lived there from 1992-1994. So, as you can see, my family has had a lot of experience with St. Regis. This is a difficult journey. I try to do the best for Mom, but it's really hard. Thank God for St. Regis & the dedicated staff that works there 24/7. They care for all the residents & their families. I know, if I have a problem, they will work with me to help solve it. Anyone who is dealing with Alzheimer's knows that there are always problems. I am grateful for all St. Regis does to keep her well cared for & safe. Without the help, guidance, & counsel of Shabbir Chinikamwala, Administrator, & Nisha, Supervisor, this would be a nightmare. They are are always gracious & calm. I don't know how they do it. I know that the women at the front desk are always cheerful & helpful. The Activities Director, we all call her Z, is a wonderful, caring woman who goes out of her way to engage the residents. Christina from the Assisted Living North wing always has a smile on her face & a gives me a warm hug whenever I see her. The staff in the Memory wing has a difficult job to do. They are caring & helpful. Maria helps Mom with puzzles. I don't know all their names but I thank them all for all they do to take care of Mom. This is a big operation. Many hands are at work here to ensure the smooth operation of St. Regis. I would be remiss not to mention & thank the maintenance men & the kitchen cooks & waitresses. . I don't want to go into detail but some employees treated my grandma horribly. She lived there about 5 years ago and recently passed in April. While she was there, we noticed she had cuts and black eyes. When asked, they said it was because she fell. My grandma had Alzheimer's and dementia and couldn't even talk. Aren't they supposed to call you and let you know when something happens to your loved one, but they didn't so it seemed like they were hiding something ?... A few weeks later we noticed more serious wounds that could not come from a fall. We took her to the hospital and moved her from that facility. I highly DO NOT recommend this place. A few weeks after moving my grandma, My sister left a yelp review explaining what happened and my mom received a call from them asking for us to remove it. Which my sister did. And she shouldn't have. However, I'm not sure if the ladies working with my grandma are still there. I ran into an ex employee and she was telling me many employees left. I hope they have new and improved staff. I shared my story because no one should be treated like that. This place in incredibly clean and looks like such a nice home!! I wish it worked out. I know there were a couple employee I loved and adored! But there will always be those who are different. Please do not call me next asking to remove this. Simply respond apologizing or send me a message or email. Letting me know people were let go, or a sincere message. We never received any empathy or apology from this place. read more

Our mother lived at the St Regis for almost three years. During that time, as she grew older, her health declined until, sadly, she passed away a few weeks ago. The St Regis staff was wonderful throughout her stay. They were warm and attentive, sympathetic and caring. Even as my mom needed more care, they were there for her. And my mom wasn't easy. She was demanding and critical, she would make it very difficult when being transferred from the bed to a wheelchair. But the staff was patient and kind. They were always in touch with us, anytime my mom had anything wrong, or if there were any changes to her health. As she got older and couldn't go to the dining room to eat, they processed her food and fed her in her room. Her room was very nice, by the way, with a view of the pretty courtyard. And they have nice activities and a really lovely Christmas party for residents and their families. In the end, they put us in touch with a wonderful hospice care group who helped make my mom's last days comfortable. But throughout, the St Regis people, from the director to the helpers, were there for her. It's not the fanciest place, but the people who work there make it very caring and special. It's difficult to move a parent to a facility, but sometimes it's necessary. All I can say is our decision to go with the St Regis was one of the best we made for my mom. read more

How do you write a review of an old folks home you don't live in? Easy, from the perspective of the relative of the person who resides there. Old folks homes give me the willies because like or not that's where I am ending up short of untimely accidental squishedness. The old folk in question has Parkinson's, Senile Dementia, Paranoia, Angina...the list goes on. No end of trouble finding a place that can manage his care competently. Voila! the St. Regis. His yelling fits. No problem. His falling spells. No problem. Aggressive cantankerous behavior? No problem. No longer getting phone calls all hours of the day and night about various problems and needing to come right away to solve them. This is because the staff is appropriately trained to handle the issues. And hence they are not problems. Sure, it's a BEEYotch driving out to Hayweird to visit at the St Regis, but knowing the old guy is well taken care of and felling confident about his care, makes even trips to Hayweird worth it. read more

At first my family found this place to be beautiful and the staff to be very nice. Soon we realized that this place was an elder abuse capital. I have witnessed with my own eyes, cruelty and elder abuse. DO NOT put a loved one here, it will be a mistake. I hope after Im done that this place will be shut down. To wake them up in the morning they rip the sheets off of them at 5:30 am. They never change the sheets and the care they give is beyond poor. Having two people on duty is no excuse for not changing someone's diaper's for two days. I could write a book, with all the horrible shit they do on a daily basis. You people make me SICK What happened to my grandmother was very real. I chose to write my first review to warn other people. My grandmother had Alzheimer's and didn't have a voice of her own. I am her voice now. This place treated her very unkindly, damaged her personal belongings, rarely changed her diapers, almost never helped her to the dining room (resulting in serious falls) to eat, was rude to me, my mother and my sister when we came to visit regularly, never kept promises, and so on. I strongly would reconsider sending a family member here. read more

My mother spent the last 2 years of her life at St. Regis. She passed away in May 2021. I have to say grateful I am grateful for the care received as her health declined. The staff in the assisted living wing beginning with Roselynn who kept me informed of my mother's health, progress, and her medications. I could always count on her and that was a great comfort to me. Her everyday care givers were Norma and Gloann. These two people were closest to her and to know they were on duty gave me great peace. Norma has the most caring heart and she befriended my mother and my mother loved her. Gloann with her a quiet, caring spirit I showed she cared too. Special thanks and love to Christine who made special meals for my mom On occasion. I'm pleased with the great room Shabbir selected for my mom. The scenery from that room of the green garden, occasional deer, wild Turkey and a Peacock were visitors to the garden was so nice. Since Dec 2011 my Mother in Law has been a resident at St. Regis. She has always been treated well and the other day we took her out early for an 8:00 Doctors appt. We forgot to sign her out and the staff contacted us to make sure she was out with us. It is their attention to detail that we greatly appreciate. They pay attention to Audrey and they would pay attention to your loved one as well. For about half the cost of Casa Sandoval it is a good value too. read more

In May of 2013, I was in search of a retirement home for my mom. After visiting several in the area, my wife and I found them to be very poorly operated, cold, and very expensive. We then checked out St. Regis in Hayward and were very pleasantly surprised by what we found. The facility was very clean and inviting. They have a beautiful lobby and nice dining hall. The bedroom is jjust perfect for my mom, who is in the independent living housing. The staff there is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! My mom can be a tough critic and she simply loves everyone there from the director (Shabbir Chinikamwala) to the sales director (Debbie Zogaric) to all the kitchen staff and the residents as well! Everyone has been extremely warm and loving to my mom from day one. My wife and I can rest comfortably knowing that she's in great hands. In addition to all this, the monthly cost is very, very reasonable. This place is such a great find for us that we just referred St. Regis to some of our best friends, who are also in need of a living facility for their parents. Please don't pay any attention to any of the negative posts that you might have read because I'm speaking from my heart on all of this. As a minister for over 14 years, I have no reason to fabricate anything and I'm getting absolutely no compensation for writing this post except the satisfaction of praising St. Regis for being a top-notch facility!! read more

So far it's ok. A friend is staying there. He says the food is "meh" and he's right next to a loud, busy road, but the staff are nice. I notice that it's clean, it doesn't smell icky. The washer and dryer are ancient but work, and there is no charge to use them. There are only a few parking spaces for visitors at the front. I tend to come in the evening and that works out better, less people around and I can park close and schlep stuff in and out. It's not AWESOME but it's safe. read more

Our mother lived in the Independent Living wing for a more than two years. We recently moved her to a new, happy place. The positive: - Her apartment was a lovely corner apartment with lots of light, large windows and lots of storage. She didn't like the noise from the traffic, but she loved that apartment. - The staff were mostly pleasant and treated her well most of the time. - The price was right. - If a resident did not show up for a meal, staff checked on them. Then, the negative: - The sales person (no longer working there) lied to us about all kinds of benefits that did not exist. Buyer beware! Not sure if they've cleaned this up, but be sure to get things that are important to you in writing. - The Independent Living apartments are not accessible. They are old hotel rooms. The bathrooms are tiny and a wheelchair won't fit. The toilets are not raised. - If you think this place is only for seniors - don't be mistaken. People of all ages live here. The manager said, "Oh no, anyone can live here." One young guy living there was hitting on my 91-year-old mom! Yikes! - There are windows to the outside near where residents gather to socialize. One resident insists on opening them. I have shown up here many times at night to find wide open windows that would allow anyone from the outside to break in. The manager said he can't fix it. I don't feel there's any real safety features here for these seniors. No cameras; no oversight. No sign-in required. Consider this place an apartment complex with 3 meals a day. - Several packages disappeared even though UPS marked them delivered to the front desk. - The shuttle only holds 5. They must have 2 or more - so if my Mom wanted to go to the post office and she was alone; they wouldn't take her. They don't sell stamps, so she would have to take a taxi - by herself - to the post office if she needed to mail bills. - There's no A/C; only a swamp cooler - and they don't like to turn it on - so the heat was on ALL SUMMER 2016! We bought a portable air conditioning unit for mom's apartment. - The apartments on the independent side have pull cords in case of emergency. We were told Assisted Living nurses would respond to emergencies on the Independent side, so she could pull the cord. They strung them up to make them convenient to her chair. Unfortunately, when her neighbor fell and used his cell phone to call the Assisted Living side because he couldn't reach the cord, they told him to call 911 and hung up - AND they did not respond. That was the beginning of the end for us. - Staff regularly yelled at residents in the dining room and told them to shut up. If people were late for a meal, they were scolded publicly. Staff constantly fights amongst themselves in front of residents and loudly in the kitchen so the entire dining room could hear. Management would yell at employees publicly. - The food started out at an acceptable level, then quickly declined. My mother has a restricted diet and I was shocked by the food they served her. Her mini fridge was full of half-eaten sandwiches - cheap white bread and poor quality deli meat. They often gave her greasy food she cannot tolerate grease due to acid reflux and having her gallbladder removed. If she complained, most of the staff would give her attitude. Mom was afraid to rock the boat so she just kept her mouth shut. - The activities are directed towards people in Assisted Living. Not many people from the Independent side attend them because they are too slow. When I talked with the manager , he scoffed at me and said it wasn't true. If your Independent Senior wants fun activities, don't put him/her here. The music program seems very nice, but that's about it. The Christmas party is also very nice, but they should definitely fire the Fake Elvis who showed up VERY drunk last Christmas. Unfortunately, he has made at least one more appearance since Christmas. - The taped exercise class was for those in wheelchairs. My 91-year-old mom did not feel safe because she felt there wasn't adequate supervision. - Mom had a physical therapist help her. She inspected the exercise room and said there wasn't a single piece of equipment safe for seniors. The manager scoffed and nothing was done. - The windows in the hallways are filthy - they have never been cleaned. - The carpets are dirty - they never once cleaned them - or even in her apartment after 2 years. - The cleaning lady did not dust hardly anything. - Pigeons pooped all over her deck and furniture and the crew did nothing. I complained to get it cleaned. They continue to do nothing about scaring off the pigeons. - I cleaned the sliding glass windows myself - they were filthy. - Most of the washers and dryers are old. There are more issues to discuss, but you probably get the picture. My family and I are so happy to get mom out of this place. She made some nice friends,and she loved some of the staff members, but that's about it. read more

My 93 year old father was there for over a year in the assisted living center. The rooms remind me of a hotel room, so it was kind of like my father was always on vacation. He was very ill, and several times things looked really bad for him. The staff cared for him well enough that he recovered again and again. They called him, "Dad" and "Papa", and he really like them. He is very picky, so this says a lot. It does seem like the staff really gets to know they seniors, and care about them. We had my mother in the memory unit at St. Regis Retirement Center for about 6 months until she recently passed away. I have nothing but praise for the Center, administration and especially for the wonderful staff who cared for Mom. As with any family making the decision to place someone in a care facility, it was difficult to make that decision. Our fears were quickly dissipated by the care of the administration and the welcoming by the staff. The care during her stay was excellent and they were all constantly attentive to her care and medications. The caring and concern as she was on hospice not only helped her, but us as well in the difficult final days. If you are looking for a very friendly and family oriented place, especially for someone in need of memory care, we would highly recommend the St. Regis Center. read more

I called to inquire as to whom it would best to speak with about St. Regis Centers, and to see if they were interested in purchasing land to build others? Quite literally, it would be impossible for the two women at the front desk to be ruder. First, they would not tell me who would be in charge of this rather benign question, second, they would not give me any names of who might return the call, third, they said that they have no voice mail to leave a message, and finally, they did not want to even take a hand written message. My 90 Yr Old Mother lived there for almost 4 yrs. Unfortunately she was requiring nursing home care so recently moved. Over the time she was there I visited the facility on a weekly basis and got to know all of the residents and staff. You become part of their Family. This is a caring and loving environment. My father-in-law Joe, was in the last stages of dementia and we were experiencing a difficult stay for Joe in a facility in Fremont. A friend in Niles recommended the St Regis in Hayward. We inspected the facility and found it clean but more importantly we found the staff and especially the manager not only helpful but they just had the feel of people who had found their calling. The care and feeding of old folks in all stages near the end of their lives. We just lost Joe a few days ago and I can only say that without the support and help of Sabir, the manager/owner?, we would have been driven crazy with the business and bureaucracy of being old and dying. When Joe was taken to the hospital with pneumonia a week before he died, the doctor and staff at the hospital were amazed at how well Joe had been taken care of. He had been bed ridden for a very long time but had no bed sores anywhere. And when we were having difficulties with the corporate side of hospice, Sabir again came to our rescue. He was truly an advocate for his charge and for his charges family. We recommend without reservation the St Regis for anyone's elderly loved one who needs special care from some very special people. read more

My mom was a resident at St. Regis for 3 years until her recent passing. At first it was a huge adjustment. My mom had some moments that made me question her care. And believe you me...I questioned it. After the settling in time period she began to relax and I witnessed nothing but love and care for my mom. If I had concerns I spoke up and they were dealt with. There is never going to be a "perfect" place. You have to work with many personalities and they have to work with ours. Sure, not every employee is going to be good. If you have an issue you need to bring it up. In the beginning there was someone that did not work well with my mom and I asked for this person to not have any contact with her and that request was honored. My mom was happy...problem solved. The other thing that is important...I WAS INVOLVED!!! They all knew me and trust me, it makes a difference. The staff liked that I was involved. When she started to decline to the point we knew she would not live to the end of this year, Shabir and his staff in the North Wing, the activity director, even the food services staff were supportive, caring, loving, and sensitive to ME in a way that I will hold special in my heart forever. Shabir helped me get in touch with an incredible hospice team that also touched my heart with their compassion and help to my mom. I am forever grateful. read more

We highly recommend the services here. Our Auntie Betty was a patient in the Memory Unit for nearly a year. We are VERY pleased with care she received from the nurses. She was a bit angry/ acting out when she first arrived but the caring attention and adjusted medication soon revived her sweet spirit.
